Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Jane M. McCormack

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Jane M. McCormack, 79, of 906 Parkside Court, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Jan. 8, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Marie C. Umbach Miller.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent F. McCormack.

She was a graduate of Rollins College, Florida.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Chambersburg.

She was a volunteer and served on the garden committee at Penn Hall. While in college, she was the state of Florida's Women's Archery Champion.

She is survived by one son, Vincent F. McCormack of Chambersburg; and two grandsons.

She was preceded in death by one sister.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at St. Partrick's Roman Catholic Church, Bennington, N.H. The Rev. Andre Bedard will be celebrant. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Bennington, Pa.

Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg.

Elsie M. Shryock

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Rev. Elsie M. Shryock, 93, a resident of ManorCare Health Services, and formerly of 3160 Sportsman Road, Greencastle, Pa., died Monday, Nov. 10, 1997, at the nursing home.

Born Jan. 27, 1904, near Gettysburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry T. and Eva G. Maring Shryock.

She was a 1921 graduate of Gettysburg High School; and a 1940 graduate of LIFE Bible College in Los Angeles, Calif. Upon graduating, she did evangelistic work in Pennsylvania and Ohio.

She was an ordained pastor for 55 years.

She was a member of Greencastle Foursquare Church.

She pioneered two Foursquare Churches, one in Belmont, N.C., in 1942; and one in Hyattsville, Md., in 1944. In 1946, she became the first pastor of Greencastle Foursquare Church, where she served for 25 years, retiring in 1971. After retiring, she served as a supply pastor and evangelist for the eastern district of Foursquare Churches.

She is survived by two nieces; three nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. Vic Miller and the Rev. Norma Rainey will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Joy Lutheran Church Cemetery, near Gettysburg.

The family will receive friends Thursday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

William G. Wilson Sr.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - William G. "Bill" Wilson Sr., 79, of 15181 Wingerton Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born May 5, 1918, in North Braddock, Pa., he was the son of the late Rev. Joseph A. and Florence Hazel Stalter Wilson.

He graduated from Manns Choice High School, Manns Choice, Pa.

He retired from Fairchild Industries formerly of Hagerstown, in 1978, after 38 years as an electrical technician.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in the South Pacific Theatre of Operations.

He attended Hollowell Brethren in Christ Church near Waynesboro, where he was a member of Kingdom Builders Sunday School Class.

He was a member of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 of Hagerstown.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Addie Maye Burkett Wilson; three  daughters, Esther M. Campbell of Leesburg, Va., Betty E. Wilson of Hagerstown, and Julie A. Wesley of Greencastle; two sons, William G. Wilson Jr. of Santa Ana, Calif., and the Rev. Joseph I. Wilson of Falling Waters, W.Va.; one sister, Florence Kavecki of Hubbard, Ohio; three brothers, the Rev. Ferguson A. Wilson of Cucamonga, Calif., Richard G. Wilson of Hagerstown and James R. Wilson of San Diego, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Hollowell Brethren in Christ Church, 14807 Hollowell Church Road, Waynesboro. The Rev. James Sollenberger and the Rev. Lee Nunemaker Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill United Brethren Church Cemetery, Coseytown, Pa. Military graveside honors will be provided by the Honor Guard of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 of Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, and at the church one hour before the service Friday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hollowell Brethren in Christ Church, 14807 Hollowell Church Road, Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.

Frederick E. Morrow Sr.

STANTON, Texas - Frederick Eugene Morrow Sr., 82, a resident of Stanton Care Center, and formerly of Waynesboro, Pa., died Thursday, Nov. 6, 1997, at the care center in Texas.

Born Oct. 31, 1915, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late James Willis and Bertha D. Baker Morrow.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Laverne Hess Morrow, in 1987.

He was employed by the Garment Factories and prior to retiring owned and operated a shop that sold and repaired sewing machines.

He served with the cavalry attached to the Waynesboro National Guard. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a member of Waynesboro Church of the Brethren.

He was a member of Waynesboro Fish and Game Association; and a life member of Mechanics Volunteer Fire Co. 1, Waynesboro.

He is survived by two sons, Frederick E. Morrow Jr. of Midland, Texas, and Dwight "Ike" Morrow of Waynesboro; two sisters, Emma Downin and Esther Bowders, both of Waynesboro; one brother, Robert Morrow of Reading, Pa.; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by six sisters, Bertha Fraley, Marie Augstin, Thelma Helser, Harriet Morrow, Mary J. Morrow and Dorothy Morrow; and five brothers, Lester Morrow, James Morrow, Harvey Morrow, John Morrow and Charles Morrow.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor Brent K. Driver will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery near McConnellsburg, Pa.

The family will receive friends Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Donna L. Clouser

RENFREW, Pa. - Donna L. Clouser, 45, of 359 Rader School Road, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997, at her home, from cancer.

Born in Pueblo, Colo., on Sept. 30, 1952, she was the daughter of Stanley M. and Wilma L. Huskey Curtis of Sierra Vista, Ariz.

She was a 1970 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School in Chambersburg, Pa.

She was an associate of Citizen's National Bank in Evans City, Pa.

She was a member of Lynn Gardens Baptist Church in Pueblo.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Carl L. Clouser, whom she married March 18, 1978; one daughter, Traci J. Clouser, at home; one son, Christopher L. Clouser, at home; three sisters, Kathleen A. Cook of Petersburg, Va., and Barbara J. Redlon and Stanna J. Obermeier of Sierra Vista; and one brother, Paul D. Cook of Bozeman, Mont.

Services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Salem United Methodist Church, 2115 Salem Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Mark A. Hagy will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg.

A viewing will be held Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg.

Memorial donations may be made to Breast Cancer Support Group, c/o Cancer Treatment Center, 260 N. Seventh St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Anne M. Ross

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Anne M. Hubbard Ross, 92, of 23 Twin Hill Drive, died Friday, Nov. 7, 1997, at her home.

Born April 26, 1905, in Rochester, Minn., she was the daughter of the late Ervine and Myra L. Pease Hubbard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, whom she married June 29, 1935, Ralph R. Ross, DDS, in 1977.

She graduated from Winnona Normal School in Rochester; and Carleton College in Northfield, Minn., with a degree in English.

She taught English in public schools in Illinois; and later she was a substitute teacher at Waynesboro Area Senior High School.

She was of the Presbyterian faith.

She was a member of Waynesboro College Club; Waynesboro Hospital Auxiliary; American Association of University Women; and National AARP.

She is survivied by one daughter, Anne Louise Hassebrock of Richland, Wash.; one son, Dr. Douglas Ross of Waynesboro; and two sisters, Jeanette Corbett of Lombard, Ill. and Dorothy Spencer of Long Beach, Calif.

She was preceded in death by seven sisters and brothers.

Private funeral services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.

Jeffrey W. Mills Jr.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Jeffrey W. Mills Jr., 26, of 209 Park Circle, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro, Pa.

Born March 14, 1971, in Chambersburg, he was the son of Jeffrey W. Mills Sr. and Roberta Boyer Mills, both of Chambersburg.

He was a 1989 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School.

He worked as a forklift operator at Grove Worldwide, Waynesboro, Pa.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandparents, Robert and June Boyer of Chambersburg; one daughter, Courtney E. Mills of Chambersburg; one son, Jeffrey W. Mills III of Chambersburg; and a twin brother, Trever L. Mills of Chambersburg.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. William H. Harter will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

Visitation will be Monday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to his children, c/o Pennie Mills, 649 N. Franklin St., Lot 72B, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Phyllis Z. Cauffman

CARLISLE, Pa. - Phyllis Z. Cauffman, 89, a resident of Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and formerly of 413 Parkside Road, Camp Hill, Pa., died Thursday, Nov. 6, 1997, at the nursing home.

Born March 12, 1908, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William and Blanche Sheeler Cauffman.

She was employed by Polyclinic Hospital in Harrisburg, Pa., in the X-Ray Department until retiring in 1973.

She was a member of Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church, Camp Hill.

She is survived by nieces and nephews; and a companion, Sylvia Kreidler of Camp Hill.

She was preceded in death by three sisters; and two brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, 12 N. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Joseph C. Carolin will be celebrant. Burial will be in St. Andrew Cemetery, Waynesboro.

There will be no public viewing.

Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, South Broad Street, Waynesboro.
