Clyde F. Anderson

ETTERS, Pa. - Clyde F. "Peach" Anderson, 70, of Etters, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at Harrisburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born Dec. 9, 1927, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Clyde Fitch and Catherine Frush Anderson.

He retired as account manager for Keebler Co.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Camp Hill, Pa.

He was a member of American Legion Post 109; Eureka Lodge 302 F&AM; and Mechanicsburg Club.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jane Anderson; one son, Gary S. Anderson of York Haven, Pa.; one daughter, Kathy A. Stone of Harrisburg; one sister, Jean Sullivan of Hagerstown; four brothers, William Anderson, Raymond Anderson, Jack Anderson and Stanley Anderson, all of Hagerstown; three grandsons; and two granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Anderson.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, Capital Region Unit, 1500 N. Second St., Harrisburg, Pa.

Arrangements are by Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, Pa.

Vernon F. Clever

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Vernon F. Clever, 69, of Mercersburg, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born Sept. 7, 1928, in Mercersburg, he was the son of the late Roy and Goldie Mae Thomas Clever.

He was a former employee of Lowengart Tannery and Mercersburg Marketplace.

He attended Christian Life Assembly of God Church, Chambersburg.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Cutchall Clever, whom he married Dec. 25, 1947; three  daughters, Nancy Egolf, Shirley Carmack and Tammy Robinson, all of Mercersburg; four sons, Roger L. Clever of Greencastle, Pa., Vernon E. Clever of Chambersburg, James M. Clever of St. Thomas, Pa., and Ronald R. Clever of Shippensburg; four sisters, Jane Brennen and Phoebe Snyder, both of Hagerstown, Grace Crouse of Greencastle, and Darlene Gress of Mercersburg; four brothers, Gerald Clever of Tennessee, Carl Clever and David Clever, both of Mercersburg, and Roy Clever Jr. of Greencastle; 21 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Christian Life Assembly of God Church, 1400 Warmspring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Howard Beaver will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Mercersburg.

A viewing will be held at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg, today from 7 to 9 p.m.; and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

W.F. "Buzz" McCarney

GRANTVILLE, Pa. - W.F. "Buzz" McCarney, 52, of Grantville, who died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, was the son of Frank McCarney of Hagerstown and the late Mary Helene Suffecool McCarney.

Gerald A. Wagaman

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Gerald A. Wagaman, 73, of Chambersburg, died of lung cancer Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born July 18, 1924, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Paul A. and Margaret E. Spahr Wagaman.

He was a 1942 graduate of Chambersburg High School.

He worked for 33 years in the graphic arts field. He worked at Fairchild Aircraft as an illustrator trainee, then directed art departments in several Washington, D.C., based aerospace companies, including American Machine and Foundry, Paye Communications and TRW.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He was a member of Burt J. Asper, Post 46 American Legion; and Franklin County Art Alliance.

He is survived by his wife, Zita M. Lightner Wagaman, whom he married Nov. 27, 1952; one daughter, Julie M. Wagaman of Springfield, Va.; and a niece and a nephew.

He was preceded in death by a daughter and a sister.

After cremation, the family will hold a private burial service.

Memorial donations may be made to Conococheague District Library, 102 N. Main St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Arrangements are by Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, Pa.

Elsie L. Sarvis

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Elsie L. Sarvis, 89, of Chambersburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, at the home of her daughter, Virginia Moyer, 14529 Strite Road, Hagerstown.

Born Aug. 27, 1908, in Hamilton Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Jacob B. and Susan Cauffman Ramer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert J. Sarvis, in 1959.

She was a member of Pleasant View Mennonite Church, 346 Warm Spring Road, Chambersburg, and the Ladies Sewing Circle.

She is survived by four  daughters and two sons, Pearl A. Lehman of Dillsburg, Pa., Carl A. Sarvis of Chambersburg, Ruth Y. Thomas of Johnstown, Pa., Glen A. Sarvis of Mechanicsburg, Pa., Jean L. Pichiya of Chimaltenango, Guatemala, Central America, and Virginia M. Moyer of Hagerstown; one sister, Emma Jane Cover of Chambersburg; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four sisters and five brothers.

Services will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Pleasant View Mennonite Church, 346 Warm Spring Road, Chambersburg. Pastor Allen Lehman and Pastor Aldus M. Lehman will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg; and Sunday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to Pleasant View Mennonite Church, 346 Warm Spring Road, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Elizabeth I. Rosenberry

ROXBURY, Pa. - Elizabeth I. Rosenberry, 89, of Rosenberry Lane, Roxbury, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, at her home.

Born Feb. 1, 1909, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John and Minnie Keperlic Peters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jess B. Rosenberry, in 1974.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church, Shippensburg, Pa.

She is survived by two  daughters, Marie Rosenberry and Betty Stouffer, both of Roxbury; three sons, Jess Rosenberry, Robert Rosenberry and Carl Rosenberry, all of Roxbury; one brother, John Peters of Chambersburg, Pa.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by six sisters and two brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church, 305 N. Prince Street, Shippensburg, Pa. 17257. The Rev. Lawrence W. Sherdel will be celebrant. Burial will be in St. Ignatious Catholic Cemetery, Ortanna, Pa.

There will be no public viewing.

Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, Pa.

Norma K. Watts

NEEDMORE, Pa. - Norma K. Watts, 62, of Needmore, and formerly of Laurel, Md., died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born June 12, 1935, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of John Keiling and the late Helen Keiling.

She was a housewife.

In addition to her  Father, she is survived by her husband of 47 years, Donald Watts Sr.; two  daughters, Pamela Watts of Kent, Wash., and Helen Kates of Severn, Md.; three sons, John Watts of Laurel, Donald Watts Jr. formerly of Laurel and Gary Watts of Mechanicsville, Md.; three sisters, Jackie Yates of Needmore, Mary Hill of Indiana and Susan Rhodes of Rockville, Md.; and 18 grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbott Ave., Laurel. Burial will be in Meadowridge Memorial Park, Dorsey, Md.

Friends may call today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, Western Maryland Chapter, Box 1117, Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Margaret L. Witte

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Margaret Leona Witte, 80, of 12125 Blue Mountain Ave., died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at District of Columbia General Hospital, Washington, D.C.

Born Oct. 4, 1917, in Greencastle, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Bruce Leslie and Mary Rhoda Tosten Crist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert William Witte, in 1978. They were married Feb. 28, 1940.

She was a 1937 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School. She completed a year at Chambersburg Secretarial College.

She was first employed by Stanley Co. of Chambersburg, Pa., as a seamstress for 10 years. She later worked at Musselman's Orchards from 1969 to 1979, until her retirement.

She was a member of Otterbein United Brethren Church of Greencastle.

She is survived by two  daughters, Norma Jean Panek of Denver and Kimberly K. Johnson of Greencastle; three sons, Lloyd A. Witte of Mont Alto, Pa., Robert L. Witte of Waynesboro and Carl L. Witte of Washington, D.C.; two sisters, H. Lou Hager of Greencastle and Arlene Statler of Chambersburg; three brothers, Charles L. Crist of Baltimore, N. Junior Crist of Hagerstown and Thomas Crist of Williamson, Pa.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Dennis C. Witte, in 1943.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Miller-Grove Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle. The Rev. David G. Rawley will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Martha J. Gordon

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Martha Jane Gordon, 71, of 14233 Dickey's Road, died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born Dec. 15, 1926, in Little Cove, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Reed S. Sr. and Esther Pine McDonald.

She was a homemaker.

During the Christmas and Easter seasons, she assisted with candy sales for the Women's Auxiliary of Clayton Memorial Church of God in Mercersburg.

She is survived by her husband, William L. Gordon, whom she married July 11, 1952; one daughter, Kim W. Higgins of Mercersburg; three sons, Phillip L. Gordon and Reed S. Gordon Sr., both of Mercersburg, and Scott B. Gordon of Harrisonville, Pa.; three sisters, Pauline Hull of Hagerstown, Mable Shoemaker of Mercersburg, and Betty Gardenhour of Waynesboro, Pa.; three brothers, Reed S. McDonald Jr. of Chambersburg, Pa., and Robert E. McDonald and Charles L. McDonald, both of Mercersburg; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Clayton Memorial Church of God. The Rev. Kelly Shope, the Rev. Floyd E. Myers and the Rev. Larry R. Murphy will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.

A viewing will be held at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg, today from 7 to 9 p.m.; and at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
