Dorothy L. Shaffer

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Dorothy Louise Shaffer, 78, of 2521 Warm Spring Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born July 12, 1919, in Bellefonte, Pa., she was the daughter of the late James Duncan and Amelia Augusta Schubert Campbell.

She was employed by People's Drug Store for 28 years.

She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Chambersburg.

She was a member of AARP and NARFE.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert G. Shaffer; one daughter, Carol Ann Wallace of Chambersburg; three sisters, Bertha Houts of State College, Pa., Evelyn Kellerher of Bellefonte and Elizabeth Plagianos of Jamesburg, N.J.; two granddaughters; one grandson; one great-grandson; and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. The Rev. Harold E. Posey will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday one hour prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 750 Norland Ave., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201; or Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 2325 Country Road, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Elizabeth G. Foust

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Elizabeth G. Foust, 85, of Menno Haven Penn Hall, 1425 Philadelphia Ave., and formerly of 174 Orchard Circle, Greencastle, Pa., died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at Menno Haven Penn Hall.

Born Oct. 10, 1912, in Greencastle, she was the daughter of the late Bruce Norman and Elizabeth Sollenberger Gordon.

She was a 1930 graduate of Greencastle High School. She attended Strayer Business College of Washington, D.C., and graduated from Famous Artist School.

She was employed in the packaging department of Corning Inc., Greencastle, for 13 years. She was then employed at Belle Dry Goods of Greencastle.

She was a member of Church of the Brethren of Greencastle, where she taught Sunday school, was a member of Berean Bible Class and the Dorcas sewing group.

She was past president of Women's Club of Greencastle.

She is survived by her husband, Paul R. Foust, whom she married on April 10, 1938; two sisters, Ruth Gordon Fox of Cross Keys, Pa. and Virginia M. Gordon of Greencastle; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Gordon Paul Foust, in 1969; and two brothers, Glen E. Gordon and John Gordon.

Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Church of the Brethren, 36 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. Robert M. Thacker, the Rev. Donald Plank and the Rev. James W. Wright will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

The family will receive friends Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Brethren, 36 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, Pa. 17225.

Arrangements are by Miller-Grove Funeral Home, Greencastle, Pa.

Mary J. Fisher

HUSTONTOWN, Pa. - Mary J. Fisher, 56, of Hustontown, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, Pa.

Born Jan. 31, 1941, in Big Pool, Md., she was the daughter of Lola Bernice Miller Warner of Pectonville, Md., and the late James E. Warner.

She was employed as a cook at Perkins Restaurant, Breezewood, Pa.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, John Fisher, whom she married June 30, 1978; one daughter, Kimberly Sue Kesecker of Hancock; one son, Michael James Fischer of Ocean City, Md.; one stepson, John C. Fisher of Clear Spring; one brother, Charles E. Warner of Big Pool; and four grandchildren.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg. The Rev. Bruce Maxwell will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home; and Sunday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The funeral home will be open Saturday from 2 to 9 p.m. for the convenience of friends.

Paul W. Karper

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Paul W. Karper, 83, of 206 Village Square, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Aug. 26, 1914, in Letterkenny, Pa., he was the son of the late William and Maggie Wingert Karper.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie F. Karper, in 1978.

He had been employed by his brother's firm, Charles W. Karper Inc.

He was a member of Fourth Street Church of the Brethren.

He is survived by one son, William B. Karper of Greensboro, N.C.; one sister, Mary Mummert of New Franklin, Pa.; and one grandson, Blaine W. Karper.

He was preceded in death by one brother.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. The Rev. Lester B. Stine will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday from 9:15 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Israel R. Webber

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Israel R. Webber, 23, of 111 S. Federal St., died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998, at his home.

Born Oct. 14, 1974, in Chambersburg, he was the son of Bobby R. Webber of Chambersburg and Barbara J. Crawford of Chambersburg.

He served in the U.S. Army.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one daughter, Briana Rose Webber of Saint Thomas, Pa.; two brothers, Christopher Webber, serving in the U.S. Navy, Jacksonville, Fla., and Jordan Webber of Chambersburg; stepmother, Cindy Durham Webber of Chambersburg; maternal grandmother, Edna O. Crawford of Saint Thomas; one niece; one stepnephew; and aunts and uncles.

Services will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Patricia Tillman will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

Visitation will be Saturday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

James O. Lewis Jr.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - James O. Lewis Jr., 38, of 248 S. Third St., died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at University Hospital/Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pa.

Born May 31, 1959, in Nansemond, Va., he was the son of Mary L. Artis Lewis of Bronx, N.Y., and the late James O. Lewis Sr.

He had been employed by ACR Paper Co. in Bronx; Staples in Chambersburg; and Keystone Ford in Greencastle, Pa.

He was of the Episcopal faith.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Donna D. Lewis, whom he married May 30, 1996; two  daughters, Michelle Brown of New York City and Diamond Brown of the Bronx; three sons, Johnny Spoonhour III and Zachary Spoonhour, both of Chambersburg and Nitemus Johnson of Indianapolis, Ind.; two stepdaughters, Evalysa Mack and Tangeha Mack, both of Indianapolis; three sisters, Sheila Watson of New York, Charlene Lewis and Michelle Lewis, both of the Bronx; two brothers, Fernandous Lewis of the Bronx and Terrence Lewis of Florida; maternal grandmother, Daisy Artis of New York; nieces and nephews; and one great-niece.

Services will be Sunday at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Ray Kauffman will officiate. Burial will be private.

Beatrice C. F. Schriever

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Beatrice C.F. Schriever, 91, of Route 2, Warfordsburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born April 13, 1906, in Whips Cove, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John S. and Rebecca Smith Engle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andy H. Schriever, in 1981.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hancock Ward, Hancock.

She was president of First Relief Society, Buck Valley Branch of Latter-day Saints.

She is survived by four  daughters, V. June Bohlman of Hancock, Ruth A. Oakman and Dorothy M. Turner, both of Warfordsburg, and Nancy L. Hiatt of Brighton, Colo.; two sons, Levearl A. Schriever and Ralph L. Schriever, both of Warfordsburg; one brother, James Lee Engle of Warfordsburg; 19 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Norma Rebecca Hill, in 1996.

Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hancock Ward, Hancock. Bishop Larry W. Hartman will officiate. Burial will be in Jerusalem Christian Cemetery, Warfordsburg.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. There will be a viewing at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open from 2 to 9 p.m. on Sunday.

Mary G. Benchoff

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Mary Grace Benchoff, 72, of 4926 Bino Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born April 14, 1925, in Saint Thomas, Pa., she was the daughter of the late David Merle and Mabel Gertrude Greenawalt Brake.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Benchoff Jr., in 1967. They were married Aug. 8, 1946.

She was a 1944 graduate of Saint Thomas High School.

She was employed with J. Schoeneman Co. of Chambersburg, Pa., as a presser and worked in the maintenance department. She retired in 1990 after 30 years.

She was a member of Saint Stephens Lutheran Church of Greencastle.

She was a member of Baltimore Regional Joint Board Union of Needletrades; and Industrial and Textile Employees of Baltimore.

She is survived by two  daughters, Carolyn D. Beeler of Greencastle and Brenda L. Strange of Waynesboro, Pa.; two sons, Lloyd A. Benchoff and David M. Benchoff, both of Greencastle; five sisters, Edna M. Shatzer of Chambersburg, Erma C. Lydic of Greencastle, Janet G. Pine of Marion, Pa., Helen E. Barges of Saint Thomas and B. Louise Johnson of Shippensburg, Pa.; one brother, Roy E. Brake Sr. of Mercersburg, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Elizabeth Brake; and a brother, Paul Melvin Brake.

Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Miller-Grove Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle. The Rev. Alan R. Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mabel C. Baumbaugh

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Mabel C. Hetrick Baumbaugh, 89, of 2075 Scotland Ave., and formerly of Worleytown Road, Greencastle, Pa., and Mountain Road in the Fort McCord area near Chambersburg, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at Menno-Haven, Chambersburg.

Born Feb. 27, 1908, in Pleasant Hall, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John B. and Ella A. Franklin Kaufman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert V. Hetrick, in 1980.

She retired as a seamstress in the early 1960s from the former Stanley Co. in Chambersburg after more than 25 years of service.

She was a member of Mount Olivet United Brethren in Christ Church, Chambersburg, where she was a member of the adult Sunday school class; and Women's Missionary Association.

She is survived by two  daughters, Shirley A. Schmidt of Fayetteville, Pa., and Jean L. Diffenderfer of Chambersburg; three sons, Marvin V. Hetrick of Chambersburg, Rodney K. Hetrick of Newton, N.J., and William H. Hetrick of Chambersburg; two stepsons, Elwood D. Baumbaugh and Wayne E. Baumbaugh, both of Greencastle; two sisters, Ora Millhouse of Pleasant Hall and Atha Boggs of Chambersburg; one brother, J. Harold Kaufman of Shippensburg, Pa.; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer W. Baumbaugh, in 1986; one daughter, Mabel K. Hetrick; a stepdaughter; a stepson; two sisters; and three brothers.

Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church, Cumberland Highway, Pleasant Hall. The Rev. Stan McCammon and the Rev. Charles W. Kampmyer will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Hall Cemetery, Pleasant Hall.

Visitation will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring, Chambersburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Menno-Haven, 2075 Scotland Ave., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.
