Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

William W. Robertson

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - William W. "Robbie" Robertson, 76, of 760 Cumberland Ave., died Sunday, March 22, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Jan. 1, 1922, in Mont Alto, Pa., he was the son of the late William W. and Anna Reed Robertson.

He was employed by Letterkenny Army Depot from 1946 to 1952. He joined the Chambersburg Police Department in 1952 and retired with the rank of sergeant in 1978. He later was employed by Franklin County Detention Center for four years.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served six years in Europe and Africa. He received the Purple Heart, American Defense Service Medal and European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with five bronze starts.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He was a life member of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW and Fraternal Order of Police; and a member of Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dolly Madison Cutts Robertson; five  daughters, Barbara A. Fessler and Nancy L. Kline, both of Waynesboro, Pa., Vicki C. Timmons, Sharon M. Davis and Roxi Ann Jacobs, all of Chambersburg; three sisters, Faye Ann Robertson of Fayetteville, Pa., Betty Rohrer of Mont Alto and Lois Houck of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, one brother and one great-grandson.

Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. Pastor Wayne L. Kuhns will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mont Alto.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday one hour prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to Fairview Chapel, 8948 Capitol Hill Road, Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.

Carol A. Williams

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Carol Ann Cooper Williams, 63, of 13821 Molly Pitcher Highway, died Monday, March 23, 1998, at Harrisburg Hospital.

Born Sept. 5, 1934, in Binghamton, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Richard J. and Rita M. Arendt Cooper.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Williams, in 1990. They were married June 5, 1954.

She was a 1952 graduate of Greene High School.

She was employed by Grove Manufacturing, Shady Grove, Pa., in the printing shop. She was a bartender at American Legion in Greencastle; and for the past four years was a desk clerk at Econo-Lodge in Greencastle.

She was a member of Frank Carbaugh American Legion Post 373 Ladies Auxiliary, Greencastle, and was auxiliary president; member of Harry D. Ziegler VFW Post 6319 Ladies Auxiliary, Greencastle; and national AARP.

She bowled in local leagues.

She is survived by two  daughters, Lei Ann Reihart and Lori Lei Short, both of Greencastle; two sisters, Marjorie Elmer of Greene, N.Y., and Dorothy Elmer of Newport Ritchey, Fla.; three brothers, Stanley Cooper of Greene, Richard Cooper of Chenango, N.Y., and David Cooper of North Carolina; four grandchildren; four great-grandsons; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Harry Cooper.

Services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Miller-Grove Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle. The Rev. Gayle L. Ruble Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Amy M. Henneberger

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Amy M. Henneberger, 103, of 260 E. Baltimore St., died Monday, March 23, 1998, at her home.

Born May 28, 1894, in Greencastle, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Cora E. Witmer Shank.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Henneberger, in 1965. They were married in April 1920.

She was a 1912 graduate of Greencastle High School; a 1913 graduate of Baltimore Latin School; and a 1917 graduate of Goucher College in Baltimore.

She was a homemaker. Earlier, she taught one year at Strong's Private School in Sugar Loaf Mountain, Md. She worked one year at the Treasury Department in Washington, D.C., during World War I.

She was a life member of Grace Reformed United Church of Christ, Greencastle, where she was a Junior Sunday School teacher and a member of circle groups.

She was past president and a member of Greencastle-Antrim Loyal  daughters; and a charter member and second president of Greencastle-Antrim Senior Women's Club.

She was active in Goucher Alumni Association; and attended her 70th college reunion in 1987.

She is survived by two  daughters, Lois May Henneberger, at home, and Amy Louise Huber of Shelburne, Vt.; one son, John Durbin Henneberger of Fort Myers Beach, Fla.; one grandson; and one granddaughter.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. Donald L. McBride will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Henneberger home, 260 E. Baltimore St., Greencastle. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Building Fund of the Grace Reformed United Church of Christ, 128 E. Baltimore St., P.O. Box 448, Greencastle, Pa. 17225.

Nevin L. Martin Sr.

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Nevin L. Martin Sr., 61, of 15021 Molly Pitcher Highway, died Tuesday, March 24, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born June 22, 1936, in Maugansville, he was the son of the late Raymond H. and Mabel R. Martin Martin.

He was a dairy farmer for 29 years. He also was a carpenter, truck driver and most recently owned and operated Nevin's Furniture near Greencastle.

He was a member of Salem Ridge Mennonite Church of Greencastle, was a church trustee and Sunday school teacher.

He was active with Mennonite Disaster Service and Mennonite Central Committees Meat Canning Project. He volunteered with the local House Against Hunger program.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Marian I. Keener Martin; three  daughters, Crystal R. Hulock and Melanie A. Matthews, both of Greencastle and Lisa M. Naugle of Waynesboro, Pa.; two sons, Nevin L. Martin Jr. of Goshen, Ind., and Dale L. Martin of Chambersburg; two sisters, Ruth E. Eby and Alice K. Martin, both of Hagerstown; four brothers, Lee E. Martin, R. Larry Martin and Merle W. Martin, all of Greencastle; and Duane A. Martin of Hagerstown; seven grandsons; and two granddaughters.

Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Salem Ridge Mennonite Church, 441 Pensinger Road, Greencastle. The Rev. Joseph Martin will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle; and Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mennonite Disaster Service, c/o Salem Ridge Mennonite Church, 441 Pensinger Road, Greencastle, Pa. 17225.

Buddie P. Lowery

HARRISONVILLE, Pa. - Buddie Philip Lowery, 87, of Harrisonville, died Monday, March 23, 1998, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, Pa.

Born Nov. 28, 1910, in Akersville, Pa., he was the son of the late Joseph E. and Sadie Strait Lowery.

He attended Siloam United Methodist Church, Harrisonville.

He retired from PennDOT. He also was a lumberman, a coal miner, and worked for Licking Creek Township.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel P. Schooley Lowery, whom he married May 22, 1954; two children, Linea Watkins of Chambersburg and Eddie Schooley of Wafordsburg, Pa.; one brother, Fred Lowery of McConnellsburg; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Siloam United Methodist Church, Harrisonville. Pastor Charles Gummo and the Rev. Denver Plessinger will officiate. Burial will be in Siloam United Methodist Church Cemetery, Harrisonville.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Sipes Funeral Home, Harrisonville; and Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Ashlyn L. Propst

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Ashlyn Lacy Propst, infant daughter of Keith A. and Jennifer Lee Adams Propst, of 6261 Winterberry Drive, was stillborn Tuesday, March 24, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by one brother, Tanner A. Propst of Chambersburg; paternal grandmother, Marlene Webster of Fayetteville, Pa.; paternal grandmother, Nancy Propst of Chambersburg; maternal grandparents, Leroy and Karen Breon of Fayetteville; maternal grandparents, Carl and Sharon Adams of Waynesboro, Pa.; maternal great-grandparents, Carl and Patricia Adams of Chambersburg; maternal great-grandparents, Dick and Donna Cooper of Chambersburg; maternal great-great-grandmother, Ethel Adams of Chambersburg; three aunts; and three uncles.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Lacy Propst.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. The Rev. George S. Mouer Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg.

James C. Dell

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - James C. Dell, 37, of 27 Lincoln Drive, and formerly of New York City and Key West, Fla., died Tuesday, March 24, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Sept. 13, 1960, in Del Rio, Texas, he was the son of Maria E. Roque Dell of Fayetteville and the late Earl C. Dell.

He was a 1978 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School, and attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He was a 1983 graduate of the University of Tennessee.

He had been self-employed in the fashion industry in New York City, retiring due to a disability.

He attended Corpus Christi Catholic Church.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one brother, Thomas "Clay" Dell of Fayetteville; and one niece, Rachel Roque Dell of Fayetteville.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Jude T. Dawson-Amoah will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.

There will be no viewing.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Memorial donations may be made to Keystone Health Center, 820 Fifth Ave., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Ora A. Largent

MARION, Pa. - Ora A. Largent, 77, of Marion, died Monday, March 23, 1998, at Franklin County Nursing Home, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born March 9, 1921, in Bedford County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late James and Estella Smith Mahon.

She was a 1939 graduate of Chambersburg High School.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Marion, and taught Sunday School.

She is survived by her husband, Lester G. Largent, whom she married Oct. 9, 1939; two  daughters, Bonita L. Largent and Dawn E. Largent, both of Marion; one son, Garnet L. Largent of Middletown, Va.; one granddaughter; one grandson; and one great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by one sister; two brothers; two half sisters; and three half brothers.

Service and burial will be private. The Rev. Guy W. Camp III will officiate.

There will be no viewing.

Memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, 94 Colorado St., Marion, Pa. 17235.

Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg.
