Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Michael E. Cook

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Michael E. "Mike" Cook, 43, of 4223 Fetterhoff Chapel Road, died Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born April 10, 1955, in Chambersburg, he was the son of Geraldine I. Wright Cook of Chambersburg and the late Charles E. Cook.

He was an employee of South Mountain Restoration Center before retiring on disability in 1997.

He was a member of South Mountain Fish and Game Association, South Mountain, Pa., a social member of Hume McNeal Byers AM Vets Post 224 and Landis-McCleaf Detachment, Marine Corps League, both in Chambersburg.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his companion of 19 years, Renee I. Culbertson of Fayetteville, Pa.; three  daughters, Michelle M. Reitz of Chambersburg, Stacey Spoonhour of Pond Bank, Pa., and Angela M. Cook of Fayetteville; four sisters, Veronica "Bonnie" A. Fickes of Waynesboro, Pa., Pamela K. Newcomer of Chambersburg, and Beverly A. Schwartz and Patricia F. Thomas, both of Fayetteville; paternal grandmother, Mary K. Cook of Chambersburg; and a grandson.

He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Aletha L. Painter will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.

A viewing will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Stanley T. Kulpak

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Stanley T. Kulpak, 66, of 3635 Scar Hill Road, died Thursday, April 23, 1998, at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pa.

Born Aug. 5, 1931, in Sibley, Pa., he was the son of the late John and Helen Kulpak.

He was a 1949 graduate of Old Forge High School, Old Forge, Pa.

He entered the U.S. Army in 1952 after serving two years in the Naval Reserve. He served in Korea and received the Combat Infantryman's Badge. He served in Vietnam and received the Bronze Star. He was promoted to sergeant major in 1973.

He returned to Korea in 1974 to serve with the 36th Signal Battalion, U.S. Army Communications Command. In 1975, he was assigned as station chief of the East Coast Telecommunications Center at Fort Detrick, Frederick, Md. He returned to Korea in 1977-78 as a station chief for the 362nd Signal Co. He was assigned as the troop command sergeant major at Fort Ritchie in 1978. He retired from the U.S. Army with more than 30 years of service.

He was a Catholic.

He was a member of Frank Carbaugh American Legion Post 373 in Greencastle, and a life member of Harry D. Zeigler Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6319, Greencastle, Pa.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores T. Maciborski Kulpak, whom he married May 7, 1955; six  daughters, Janet Kulpak Schwartz of Annapolis, Pamela Kulpak Shatzer, Rose Kulpak Gates and Melissa Kulpak, all of Greencastle, Vanessa Kulpak Faust-McCleaf of Chambersburg, Pa., and Helen Kulpak Hughes of Newport, Pa.; a son, Michael Kulpak of Greencastle; three sisters, Jenny Brygider of Parsipanny, N.J., Wanda Carey and Loretta Yarema, both of Old Forge; a half brother, Walter Ciaston of Jersey City, N.J.; 12 grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 12 N. Broad St., Waynesboro, with the Rev. Thomas J. Hemler as celebrant. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

The family will receive friends at Miller-Grove Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle, Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian wake service will be held at 8 p.m.

Military services will be conducted by Carlisle Barracks, U.S. Army, Carlisle, Pa., and the 99th Regional Support Command of Oakdale, Pa.

Dan C. DeShong

NEEDMORE, Pa. - Dan C. DeShong, 82, of R.D. 1, died Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at Hershey Medical Center.

Born Aug. 24, 1915, in Sipes Mill, Pa., he was the son of the late Riley and Linnie DeShong.

His wife, Cora Strait DeShong, died in 1987.

He retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. He also was a farmer.

He was a member of Sideling Hill Christian Church, Needmore.

He also was a member of IOOF 710 of Harrisonville, Pa.

He is survived by a daughter, Jean Morton of Needmore; a brother, James W. DeShong of Warfordsburg, Pa.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Sideling Hill Christian Church, Needmore. Pastor William Swope will officiate. Burial will be in Sideling Hill Christian Cemetery.

Visitation will be held today from 2 to 9 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home in Harrisonville. There will be no viewing at the church.

Helen M. Golamb

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Helen M. Golamb, 87, of 2075 Scotland Ave., and formerly of New Kensington, Pa., and Reading, Pa., died Friday, April 24, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Feb. 12, 1911, in Littlestown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry E. and Effie Riffle Rebert.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Owen F. Petrie.

Her husband, Pete G. Golamb, died in 1973.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by two  daughters, Dolores "Dody" Myers of Chambersburg and Barbara Ann Driscol of Cleveland; a sister, E. Anita Rebert of Reading; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a future date. There will be private graveside services at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Littlestown.

There will be no viewing.

Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg.

Anna M. Robinson

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Anna M. Robinson, 87, of Middletown Odd Fellows Home, and formerly of 709 Clayton Ave., Waynesboro, Pa., died Sunday, April 26, 1998.

She was Born Dec. 28, 1910, in Waynesboro.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen D. "Chubby" Robinson.

She and her husband opened the Mill Restaurant in Waynesboro and ran it for 13 years before selling it. They then built and operated the restaurant, Chubbs Place, for more than 22 years. It is now called the Brakers.

She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Margaret Robinson of Harrisburg, Pa.; a sister, Rachel Green of Waynesboro; four brothers, Robert Mitchell of Waynesboro, Warren Mitchell of Chambersburg, Pa., Thaddeus Mitchell of Hagerstown, and Charles Mitchell of Hillsdale, Mich.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Snyder-Lochstampfor Funeral Home Inc., corner of South Church and West Second streets, Waynesboro. The Rev. Carl Buterbaugh will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 6 W. Second St., Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.

Louise A. Staley

SOUTH MOUNTAIN, Pa. - Louise A. Kauffman Staley, 74, of 4312 White Pine Lane, died Monday, April 27, 1998, at her home.

Born July 31, 1923, in South Mountain, she was the daughter of the late Lewis D. and Floy Baltozer Kauffman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton J. Staley, in 1988.

Prior to her retirement in 1980, she was a nurse's aide at South Mountain Restoration Center for 18 years. Before that, she was a press operator at Stanley Co., Chambersburg, Pa.

She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Mont Alto, Pa.

She is survived by a son, Lennard C. Staley of Quincy, Pa.; a sister, Zelda C. Kauffman of South Mountain; two brothers, Charles W. Kauffman of Piney Mountain Nursing Home and Donald L. Kauffman of Gettysburg, Pa.; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Staley; a sister, Alverna Stevenson; and three brothers, Alfred Kauffman, Cloyd Kauffman and Leo Ralph Kauffman.

Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, Pa. The Rev. Gerald Carbaugh will officiate. Burial will be in Strang's Cemetery, South Mountain.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 339, Mont Alto, Pa. 17237.

Ralph F. Houser

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Ralph F. "Scoop" Houser, 75, of 530 Highland Ave., died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at ManorCare Health Services, Chambersburg.

Born Feb. 1, 1923, in Chambersburg, he was the son of Margaret Fahnestock Houser of ManorCare Health Services, Chambersburg and the late Ralph J. Houser.

He was a graduate of Chambersburg High School.

He was a salesman for the former Whalen Motors, Chambersburg, retiring in 1985. He also had worked for Ray Lewis Ford Co., Hal Lowery Ford, the Pennsylvania railroad and at Kennedy Space Center.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II.

He was a member of Zion Reformed Church United Church of Christ, Chambersburg.

He was a member of George Washington Lodge 143 AF&AM, Chambersburg; Zembo Temple, Harrisburg; and Harrisburg Consistory.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 33 years, Judy E. Leisher Houser; and one son, R. Daniel "Dan" Houser of Atlanta, Ga.

A graveside service will be Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg. The Rev. Jeffrey R. Diller will officiate.

There will be no public viewing. Friends are invited to the graveside service.

Memorial donations may be made to Parkinson's Disease Association, 1501 NW Ninth Ave., Bob Hope Road, Miami, Fla. 33136.

Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home Inc., 303 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg.

Louella D. Bowser

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Louella "Jane" Davis Bowser, 82, of 720 Ringgold St., died Tuesday, April 28, 1998, in Shady Grove, Pa.

Born April 13, 1916, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Walter A. and Alice Walter Davis.

She was a member of Otterbein United Brethren in Christ Church in Waynesboro, and the Fidelis Sunday School Class.

She is survived by her husband, Samuel Bowser, whom she married May 27, 1939; two  daughters, Beverly Sword of Greencastle, Pa., and Nancy Reinks of Waynesboro; two sons, Samuel J. Bowser of Orrtanna, Pa., and James Edward Bowser of Shippensburg; one sister, Mary Mildred Wenig of Reseda, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by eight brothers.

Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor J. William Kesecker will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
