Barry Lee Hollenshead

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Barry Lee Hollenshead, 49, of 18 1/2 W. North St., Waynesboro, Pa., died Friday, April 17, 1998, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born July 9, 1948 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Vernon S. Hollenshead Sr., and Frances Simmers Hollenshead.

He attended school in Waynesboro through the 11th grade and earned his GED while in the service.

He served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He was employed at Landis Tool Co. in Waynesboro and later at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg.

He attended Blue Rock United Brethren Church, Tomstown.

He is survived by his wife, Karen E. Jackson Hollenshead, whom he married on June 7, 1989; one step-daughter Danielle D. Curry of Waynesboro, three sisters, Darlene S. DeWalt and JoAnn F. Smith, both of Waynesboro, and Linda C. Minor of Billington, Va; one brother, Vernon S. Hollenshead Jr., of Waynesboro; one stepgranddaughter; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at the convenience of the family.

Cumberland Valley Crematorium, Waynesboro, is in charge of the arrangements.

Lloyd W. Baker

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Retired Staff Sgt. Lloyd W. "Johnny" Baker, 80, of 8188 Mentzer Gap Road, died Monday, April 20, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born Jan. 24, 1918, in South Mountain, Pa., he was the son of the late Jesse R. and Carrie Barnes Baker.

He received his GED while in the military.

His first wife, Della O. Starbuck Baker, died in 1970. They were married May 4, 1948.

He served in the U.S. Army with the 21st Infantry. During World War II, he was recalled to active duty with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Orlando, Fla. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in Hamiltonfield, Va., and was commissioned with the U.S. Air Force, serving in Japan, California, Texas, Washington and Pennsylvania. He retired after 20 years of service.

Early in life, he was a farmer in the South Mountain area. He worked at Samuel Dixon State Hospital, now South Mountain Restoration Center. Following military retirement, he owned and operated Baker's Tavern in South Mountain, was a bartender at BPO Elks in Waynesboro, and was manager of Eagles Club Inc. of Waynesboro.

He was a member of Air Force Sergeant's Association, William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695, Order of the Owls Nest 1073, and Eagles Club Inc., all in Waynesboro; and South Mountain Fish and Game Association.

He is survived by his wife, Naomi Tressler Baker, whom he married Aug. 21, 1975; three sons, Richard L. Baker of Carlisle, Pa., John W. Baker of Waynesboro, and Marvin R. Preston of Milford, Ohio; one stepdaughter, Lavinah J. Sanders of Waynesboro; four stepsons, Richard J. Turner, Steven R. Turner, S. Tony Turner and Gary A. Turner, all of Emmitsburg, Md.; one sister, Ada Sites of Chambersburg; two brothers, Luther D. Baker of South Mountain and Alfred L. Baker of Chambersburg; two grandchildren; more than 10 stepgrandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Pansy Funk, Goldie Bumbaugh, Madeline Mae Ringenary and Beatie Kimple; and four brothers, Jesse Baker, Kenneth Baker, Clifford Baker and Crawford Baker.

Services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Sterling C. Keeney will officiate. Burial will be in Strang's Cemetery in South Mountain, with military graveside services conducted by the honor guard of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Disabled Veterans Association of your choice.

Harry C. Gorman

CHAMBERSBURG - Harry C. Gorman, 97, a resident of Manorcare Nursing Home, and formerly of Hearthstone Home and R.D. 6, Waynesboro, Pa., and Easton, Pa., died Tuesday, April 21, 1998, at the nursing home.

Born May 19, 1900, in Easton, Pa., he was the son of the late William B. and Roxie Smith Gorman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine D. Gorman, in 1981.

He retired after 40 years from J.T. Baker Chemicals, where he was a supervisor.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ.

He was a member of Warren Lodge 13, F&AM; Warren County Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Forest 14; Waynesboro Shrine Club; Hagerstown Shrine Club; Lehigh Consistory, Allentown, Pa.; Zembo Temple; and BPOE 731, Waynesboro. He was a life member of the Exempt Fireman's Association in New Jersey; life member in the Reliance Hose Co. 1, Phillipsburg, N.J.; and was a past president of the F.O. Eagles of New Jersey.

He is survived by a son, William B. Gorman; and nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro. The Rev. James T. Williams will officiate.

The family has requested the omission of flowers.

Funeral arrangements are by Snyder-Lochstampfor Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

Mary E. Helman

CHAMBERSBURG - Mary E. Wildeson Helman, 78, of 7426 Hades Church Road, died Monday, April 20, 1998, at her home.

Born Sept. 16, 1919, in Guilford Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late W. Paul and Lydia Mae Knepper Wildeson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit A. Helman, in 1978.

She was a homemaker. Earlier, she was employed by the former Stanley Co. of Chambersburg.

She was a member of the Hade's Church of the Brethren.

She enjoyed gardening.

She is survived by three  daughters, Rachel M. Eckstine of Hagerstown, Naomi M. Helman and Jane R. Helman, both of Chambersburg; two brothers, Kenneth P. Wildeson of Chambersburg and David Luther Wildeson of Louisville, Ky.; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Teressa Kline; and two brothers, Chester Wildeson and Clarence Wildeson.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Hade's Church of the Brethren, Hades Church Road near Chambersburg. The Rev. Dean Gearhart, the Rev. George Martin and the Rev. Don Clapper will officiate. Burial will be in Browns Mill Cemetery, Kauffman, Pa.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, Pa., and at the church one hour prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Geraldine K. Patterson

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Geraldine K. "Geri" Patterson, 63, of 631 Foulger St., Waynesboro, died Monday, April 20, 1998, at Manorcare Health Services, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born March 23, 1935, in South Mountain, Pa., she was the daughter of the late David and Naomi Wagaman Kauffman.

She was employed by Musselman's, Orrtanna, Pa., for eight years.

She was a member of Otterbein United Brethren in Christ Church, Waynesboro, and Helping Hands Sunday School Class.

She was a member of AARP Chapter 2977 and the National AARP.

She is survived by one daughter, Dorinda K. Patterson of Harrisburg, Pa.; three sons, Leonard L. Patterson of Hanover, Daniel R. Patterson and Eric E. Patterson, both of Waynesboro; two sisters, Arlene Shearer of Mont Alto, Pa., and Anna Carbaugh of Waynesboro; three brothers, Glenn Kauffman of South Carolina, Harold Kauffman of South Mountain and Mark Kauffman of Waynesboro; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Shirley Kauffman, Lorraine Kauffman, Eleanor Bakner and Pauline Byers; and four brothers, Earl Kauffman, Eugene Kauffman, Thomas Kauffman and Percy Kauffman.

Services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Michael V. Newman and the Rev. K. Allen Mummert will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Gertrude L. Lenharr

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Gertrude L. "Trudy" Lenharr, 80, of 25 E. Baltimore St., Apt. 2, died Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at her home.

Born Dec. 23, 1917, near Mercersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles B. and Laura G. Brindle Glaser.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy W. Lenharr, in 1980.

She graduated from Mercersburg High School.

She had worked as a sales clerk in the Washington, D.C., area.

She was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ near Waynesboro, Pa.

She was a former member of the Greencastle-Antrim Lioness Club and Greencastle Exchange Club.

She is survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by 11 sisters and brothers.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. Lin Smalec will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Franklin Co. Unit, 452 E. King St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

George M. Stehl

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - George M. Stehl, 78, of 10608 Scenic View Drive, died Thursday, April 23, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro, Pa.

Born Feb. 25, 1920, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late John J. and Margaret Barker Stehl.

His wife, Charlotte A. Sprague Stehl, died in 1988. They were married in May 1966.

He was a 1938 graduate of St. Leonard's Academy in Brooklyn.

He was employed as a machinist and foreman for Republic Aviation in Long Island and then at Fairchild Aircraft Manufacturing in Hagerstown.

He was a Catholic.

He was a social member of Harry D. Ziegler V.F.W. Post 6319 in Greencastle, and a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1790 in Mercersburg, Pa.

He is survived by two sisters, Margaret E. Riordan of Long Island, and Florence Ruoff of Queens, N.Y.; a brother, Robert A. Stehl of Queens; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Moore; and two brothers, William A. Stehl and Lawrence F. Stehl.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, 12 N. Broad St., Waynesboro, with the Rev. Thomas J. Hemler as celebrant.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Miller-Grove Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
