Isabell A. Whitmore

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Isabell A. Whitmore, 82, of 644 Broad St., formerly of 200 N. Main St., died Sunday, May 3, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born May 13, 1915, in Edenville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John and Anna Johns Foreman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Snively Whitmore, in 1959.

She had been a nurse's aide at Menno Haven Nursing Home.

She was a member of King Street United Brethren Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Doris L. Zeger of Chambersburg; a son, Robert L. Goss of Chambersburg; a stepdaughter, Ann Brindle of Mercersburg; a brother, Chester Foreman of Edenville; four grandchildren; two step grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a stepgreat-grandchild; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Lester F. Stine will officiate. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery, St. Thomas, Pa.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to King Street United Brethren Church, 172 E. King St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Esther P. Hollinger

NEW OXFORD, Pa. - Esther P. Petrie Hollinger, 95, a resident of Cross Keys Brethren Home, and formerly of 310 W. Seventh St., Waynesboro, Pa., died Sunday, May 3, 1998.

Born Aug. 5, 1902, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Frank M. and Mary A. Brown Petrie.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Hollinger, in 1989.

She was a 1920 graduate of Waynesboro High School.

She was a charter member of Waynesboro Church of the Brethren where she taught Sunday school for 40 years and was a member of Fidelis Sunday School Class.

She was a member of Waynesboro YMCA Auxiliary and Waynesboro Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby P. Wetters, and a brother, Owen Petrie.

Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Waynesboro Church of the Brethren, 117 S. Church St., Waynesboro. The Rev. John Paul Holsey will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.

There will be no public viewing.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Waynesboro Church of the Brethren, 117 S. Church St., Waynesboro, Pa. 17268 or to Good Samaritan Fund, in care of Cross Keys Brethren Home, 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford, Pa. 17350.

Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

Ellis M. R. Daywalt

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Ellis M.R. Daywalt, 71, of 6965 Chambersburg Road, died Sunday, May 3, 1998, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Feb. 8, 1927, in South Mountain, Pa., he was the son of the late Roy Bennette and Catherine Grace Zigler Daywalt.

He was employed at Knouse Foods, Orrtanna, Pa. until his retirement in 1985. Before that he worked at Letterkenny Army Depot, on the Pennsylvania Railroad and in construction.

He was a veteran.

He was a member of South Mountain Rod and Gun Club and South Mountain Fish and Game.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Mary A. Shepard Beck; 10  daughters, Kathy McDonald, Tina McDonald, Barbara McDonald, Patricia McDonald, Trudy McDonald, Cindy McDonald, all of North Bend, Pa., Anna Marie Daywalt of Renova, Pa., Robin Beck and Ellie Stymist, both of Chambersburg, and Charlie Jenny Sue Daywalt of Fayetteville; eight sons, Thomas Daywalt and James Daywalt, both of Renova, William McDonald, Butch McDonald, Robert McDonald and Ellis McDonald, all of North Bend, Francis Beck Jr. of McConnellsburg, Pa., and James Beck of Chambersburg; a sister, Ada Baker of Mont Alto, Pa.; three brothers, Roy Daywalt of South Mountain, Kenneth Daywalt of North Carolina, and Francis Daywalt of Waynesboro, Pa.; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Daywalt Bear, and a brother, Roy B. Daywalt Jr.

Memorial services will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at South Mountain Rod and Gun Club, 11547 Loop Road, South Mountain. The Rev. Joseph C. Carolin will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, 225 E. King St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201 or American Cancer Society, 452 E. King St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Arrangements are by Cumberland Valley Crematorium, Waynesboro.

Denis P. Walls

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Denis P. Walls, 77, of 10311 Letzburg Road, died Sunday, May 3, 1998, at Manor Care Health Services, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born Sept. 26, 1920, in Ireland, he was the son of the late William H. and Catherine M. McLaughlin Walls.

He retired in 1983 from Conrail where he worked as a railroad freight conductor.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the European Theater.

He was a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church of Greencastle.

He was a member of AARP.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jeannine M. Roman Walls; three  daughters, Jeannine C. Bender of Newburg, Pa., Kathleen E. Seibert of Kingston, Mass. and Eileen A. Reitz of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two sons, John F. Walls of Carlisle, Pa. and William J. Walls of Pretoria, South Africa; a sister, Nora O'Neill of Rosemont, Pa.; two brothers, William J. Walls and John J. Walls, both of Rosemont, Pa.; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Denise Walls Blake, in 1974.

Services will be Thursday, at 2 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. Joseph L. Stahura will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

There will be no public viewing.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Stoner E. Hornberger

LEESBURG, Fla. - Stoner Evan Hornberger, 91, of 32426 Oak Park Drive, died Monday, May 4, 1998.

He was born in Snyder County, Pa.

He was a retired pressman for The Review & Herald Publishing in Hagerstown.

He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Leesburg, Fla.

He is survived by three grandchildren.

Ralph Mahlon Sangrey

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Ralph Mahlon Sangrey, 90, of Christmas, Fla., died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at Menno-Haven, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born Sept. 23, 1907, he was the son of the late John and Gretta B. Brown Sangrey.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma M. Dennison Sangrey, in 1995.

He graduated from Lancaster (Pa.) High School in 1925. He received machinist training at Stevens Trade School, Lancaster.

He was employed by the U.S. Navy as a machinist in Basin, Md., retiring in 1965.

He was a member and past master of the Pentalpha Lodge No. 194, A.F. & A.M., Gaithersburg, Md.

He is survived by three sons, Joseph J. Sangrey of Cherry Hill, N.J., William R. Sangrey of Great Falls, Va.; and Thomas D. Sangrey of Harrisburg, Pa.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James Sangrey.

Memorial services will be announced at a later date.

There will be no public viewing.

Betty L. Skipper

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Betty L. Skipper, 75, of 3472 Letterkenny Road, formerly of Lorain, Ohio, and Valinda, Calif., died Monday, May 4, 1998, at the home she shared with her sister, Ida Ritchey.

Born April 17, 1923, in Claysburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William B. and Grace Benton Baker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William W. "Wally" Skipper, in 1986.

She retired in 1990 after 20 years of employment with West Covina School District, Los Angeles.

She was a member of Chambersburg Open Door Church, where she attended Sunday School and was a member of the Jolly 60s.

She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Rodriguez of Lorain; a son, Richard W. Skipper of Pollock Pines, Calif.; three sisters, Martha McCarty of East Freedom, Pa., Katherine Hall of Martinsburg, Pa., and Ida Ritchey of Chambersburg; a brother, Paul Baker of Roaring Springs, Pa; seven grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Sara Grace; and a granddaughter.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Pond Bank Independent Church, 6704 White Rock Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Mervil R. Stambaugh will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, Calif.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, and on Saturday one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pond Bank Independent Church, 6704 White Rock Road, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Michael L. Matney

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Michael L. "Buddy" Matney, infant son of Tammy L. Koziatek and Buddy L. Matney of 547 Broad St., died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at University Hospital, Hershey (Pa.) Medical Center.

He was born March 30, 1998, in Chambersburg.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Sahra L. Koziatek of State College, Pa.; maternal grandmother, Sherry M. Rowe of State College; and paternal grandparents, Diane Reynolds of Waynesboro, Pa., and Johnnie C. Matney of Breezewood, Pa.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg. The Rev. Arthur E. Brown will officiate.

There will be no public viewing.

Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg.

Clifford H. Clippinger

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Clifford H. "Clip" Clippinger, 69, of 220 North St., died Wednesday, May 6, 1998, at Manor Care Health Services, Chambersburg.

Born Sept. 15, 1928, in Dover, N.J., he was the son of the late Hobert and Vivian E. Eschenmann Clippinger.

He was a 1946 graduate of Shippensburg (Pa.) High School.

He had retired from civil service employment with Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg.

He is survived by three  daughters, Carol B. Baylor of Newburg, Pa., Elizabeth A. Clippinger of Shippensburg and Virginia E. Ruhl of East Earl, Pa.; and five grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. in Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg.

There will be no public viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 452 E. King St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg.
