Kathryn Neiman
Kathryn Neiman, 52, of Tower City, died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at the Tremont Health and Rehab, where she was a patient for one day after a courageous fight against cancer.
Born September 12, 1951, she was a daughter of Richard and Joyce Paul McCue of New Cumberland.

She was a supervisor with the PA Department of Transportation, Harrisburg; member of St. Peters Lutheran Church, Reinerton; Women of the Moose, Tower City; Tower City American Legion Auxiliary and the Gratz VFW Auxiliary. She was also a previous Girl Scout Leader.

Surviving in addition to her parents, are her husband, Kenneth L.; her father; William Martz of Sunbury; a daughter, Barbara K. Rodichok; her son, Rodney L. Bush, both of Tower City; a step-daughter, Ann McAllister of Elizabethville; a step-son, Skip Neiman of Orwin; two sisters, Betsy Wacker of Tower City and Irene Warrenfletz of Dover; a brother, Edward McCue of Mechanicsburg; two grandsons; three step-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 4, at 11 a.m., from St. Peters Lutheran Church, Reinerton, with Rev. Arthur Sonnenberg officiating. Viewings will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday evening in the chapel of the Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., Tower City, and from 10-11 a.m. at the church. Burial will in St. Peters Cemetery, Orwin.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Central PA, 3315 Derry Street, Harrisburg, PA 17111. Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., Tower City, is in charge of arrangements.

Shirley A. Nye
Shirley A. Nye, 63, of Orwigsburg, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at home.

Born in Pine Grove Township, November 21, 1940, she was a daughter of the late William D. and Sadie E. Miller Moyer. She was a 1958 graduate of Blue Mountain High School.
She was employed by Boyer's Food Markets, Orwigsburg, as a meat packer, retiring in 1995 due to ill health. She had also worked at the former Leininger's Knitting Mills, Sylray Underwear Co. and Bedway's Markets, all of Orwigsburg.

She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Orwigsburg.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl, Earl and Marlin Moyer; a sister, Alberta Baver.

Surviving are her husband, William L.; a daughter, Michelle E. Pacenta of Schuylkill Haven; a son, Rodney of Schuylkill Haven; three sisters, Marcella I. Fredericks of Leesport, Lurda Atticks of Linglestown, and Ruth Beuchler of Pine Grove; four brothers, Charles Moyer of Jonestown, Ernest Moyer of Friedensburg, and Mervin and Oscar Moyer, both of Pine Grove; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services were held Tuesday, June 1, from Hamilton Funeral Home Inc., Orwigsburg, with the Rev. Joseph Wenrich officiating. Interment was in Salem Evangelical Cemetery, Orwigsburg. Hamilton Funeral Home Inc., Orwigsburg, was in charge of arrangements.

Mary E. Schade
Mary E. Schade, 80, of Tower City, died Monday, May 24, 2004, at Masonic Village, Elizabethtown.
Born in Hebe, December 14, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Ramsey E. and Sallie E. Smeltz Boyer.

She was a retired Seamstress from the former Bestok Garment Factory, Tower City.

She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Williamstown; Tower City American Legion Auxiliary, where she was an officer; the Williams Valley Senior Citizens; and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy K. on November 20, 1991 and three brothers, John, Derl and Ronald Boyer.

Surviving are two daughters, Rosann E. Miller of Elizabethtown, and Candice E. Miller of Williamstown; three sons, Steve L. of Williamstown, Richard A. of Orange, CA and Jeffrey L. of Annville; a brother, Elwyn Boyer of Pillow; three sisters, Arlene Dinger of Hegins, Mabel Klinger of Fearnot and Yvonne Dreibelbis of Virginia; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 28, from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., with Rev. Marleen Griffith-Stull officiating. Interment was in Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Lancaster County, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604, or to Tower City American Legion Auxiliary, South 10th Street, Tower City, PA 17980. Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., was in charge of arrangements.

Roma Y. Schaeffer
Roma Y. Schaeffer, 74, of Pine Grove, died Monday, May 24, 2004, at Pottsville Hospital.
Born in Pine Grove, June 18, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Lily Mae Dick D'Agostino.

She was a social member of North End Fire Company, Pine Grove.

She was preceded in death by a son, Richard; two great-grandchildren, Tamara Guidas and Robert Schaeffer; five sisters, Anna Bligan, Martha Fisher, Helen Frantz, Rose Brown and Florence D'Agostino; five brothers, Joseph, Irvin, Richard, Louis and John D'Agostino.

Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Clarence R. "Popeye"; five daughters, Barbara Daub of Lebanon, Helen Weikel of Mahanoy City, and June Guidas, Darlene Felty and Joann Wenrich, all of the Pine Grove area; a sister, Betty Schull of Milton; three brothers, Albert D'Agostino of Lebanon, Leo D'Agostino of Myerstown, and Frank D'Agostino of Pine Grove; 16 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren.

Services were held Thursday, May 27, from H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove. Interment was in Hetzel's Cemetery, Pine Grove. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, was in charge of arrangements.

Mark E. Snyder
Mark E. Snyder, 77, of Leck Kill, died Monday, May 24, 2004, at home.
Born in Red Cross, December 6, 1926, he was a son of Carrie C. Zartman Snyder, Selinsgrove, and the late Clarence N. "Nips" Snyder. He was a graduate of Pine Park High School, Leck Kill.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He retired in 1985 as a lab technician for DuPont, New Castle, DE.

He was a member of Himmel's Lutheran Church, Rebuck, where he served on various committees and was a former church council member.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, the former Jean M. Clark, whom he married December 1, 1951; a daughter, Connie L. Ness of Gladstone, Mich.; two sons, Mark S. of Parker, Colo., and Paul B. of El Cerrito, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Thursday, May 27, at Himmel's Lutheran Church, Rebuck, with the Rev. Frederick Faust officiating. Interment was in Himmel's Cemetery, Rebuck.

Memorial contributions may be made to Himmel’s Church Memorial Fund, Rebuck, PA 17867, or to the International Myeloma Foundation, 12650 Riverside Drive, Suite 206, North Hollywood, CA 91607. Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, Klingerstown, was in charge of arrangements.

Loy E. Spotts
Loy E. Spotts, 93, of Dalmatia, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at Susquehanna Lutheran Village, Millersburg.
Born in Herndon, November 9, 1910, she was a daughter of the late Charles R. Wiest and Sallie Tressler Wiest.

She attended public schools of Herndon and graduated from Millersburg High School in 1928. She was a graduate of Shippensburg Normal School class of 1931. She was certified in elementary education and taught in the public schools of Lower Mahanoy Township, Mahanoy Joint School district, and the Line Mountain Schools, retiring from Line Mountain in 1976.

She was a pianist for her class school chorus and for her church, Trinity United Church of Christ Church, Dalmatia, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was active in church and civic affairs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Spotts, who died September 5, 1997.

Surviving are two sons, Vance C. Spotts of Hummelstown, and Richard J. Spotts of Hegins; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Religious services were held Friday, May 28, from Trinity United Church of Christ Church, Dalmatia, with the Rev. Ellen Clement officiating. Interment was in Herndon Cemetery, Inc., Herndon.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Susquehanna Lutheran Village, 990 Medical Road, Millersburg, PA 17061. James A. Reed Funeral Home, Pillow, was in charge of arrangements.

Fred R. Umholtz
Fred Riley Umholtz, 78, of Valley View, died Monday, May 24, 2004, at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville.
Born in Valley View, June 13, 1925, he was a son of the late James S. and Della Schreffler Umholtz.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 88th Infantry Division in Italy. He received four Battle Stars, Unit Citation, and two Good Conduct Medals.

He retired from Kocher Coal Co., Valley View, and also was a supervisor at the former Muskin Shoe Co., Millersburg.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley View, where he was a member of the building and organ committee, council, choir and was Sunday school superintendent, was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8237, American Legion Post 575 and Valley View Fire Company, all in Valley View, and played baseball for the former Valley View Brownies.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, the former Elda A. Feger; a son, Ronald E., Dauphin; and two granddaughters.

Services were held Thursday, May 27, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Carl D. Shankweiler officiating. Interment with military honors was in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Valley View.

Memorial contributions can be made to Pinnacle Health Hospice, 301 One Norwegian Plaza, Pottsville PA 17901, or the Trinity Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, Valley View PA 17983. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, was in charge of arrangements.

Renee M. Wilhelm
Renee M. Wilhelm, 54, of Halifax, died on Monday, May 24, 2004, at the Harrisburg Hospital.
Born in Pillow on March 16, 1950, she was a daughter of the late David and Florence Witmer Schreffler.

She had worked for the former Johnson and Bailee Shoe Co., Millersburg. She was a member of the Matamoras Community Church, Halifax. She was a membership of the Women of the Moose No.1083, Millersburg and Halifax VFW No.5750 Ladies Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Dean, Phil, Dale and Gene; and a baby sister Schreffler.

Survived are her husband, James F. Wilhelm; son, Troy, of Buffalo, NY; a daughter, Tonya Patrick of Halifax; two grandchildren; five brothers, Bob Schreffler of Georgia, Jim Schreffler of Harrisburg, Clarence Schreffler of Pillow, Mark Schreffler of Nebraska and Glenn Schreffler of Herndon; five sisters, Leah Lesher of Millersburg, Ruth Daniels of Herndon, Linda Scheib and Suann Stiely, both of Millersburg and Debra Kish-Schreffler of Elizabethville; and 18 nephews and 16 nieces.

Graveside service were held on Friday, May 28, at Riverview Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Philip Kneier officiating.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 3544 North Progress Ave., Suite 202, Harrisburg, PA 17110. Hoover Funeral Home, Inc., Millersburg, was in charge of arrangements.

Grace K. Doyle
Grace Kathryn Doyle, 81, of Elizabethville, died Saturday, May 15, 2004, at Holy Spirit Hospital.
Born February 13, 1923 in Leck Kill, she was a daughter of Laura E. Paul Long of Camp Hill, formerly of Gratz, and the late Samuel F. Long. She was a 1940 graduate of Hegins Township High School.

She was a retired Certified Nursing Assistant of the Kepler Home in Elizabethville for approximately 30 years. She formerly served as a Girl Scout counselor at Camp Small Valley and was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Berrysburg, where she taught Sunday School for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Doyle.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her four sons, James of Amherst, NH, Joseph of Milton, Scott of Hegins, and Jeffrey of Sicklerville, NJ; a daughter, Merri Dorman of Halifax; four sisters, Irene Runkle of Valley View, Blanche Wiest of Harrisburg, Sally Shade of Elizabethville, and Karen Long of Camp Hill; two brothers, Clair Long of Millersburg and Mark Long of Gratz; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 19, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Berrysburg. Interment was in St. John's Cemetery in Berrysburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 270, Berrysburg, PA 17005. Hoover Funeral Home, Elizabethville, was in charge of arrangements.

Elma E. Bohner
Elma E. Bohner, 98, formerly of Millersburg, died on Tuesday, May 18, 2004, in the Messiah Village, Cumberland County.
Born in Matterstown, March 8, 1906, she was a daughter of the late George and Kate Schmeltz Erdman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley W. Bohner.

She worked with her husband in the past at Cedar Farms and retired from the Egg Exchange, both in Philadelphia. She was a past member of the Drexel Hill Womans Club, Philadelphia.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by seven brothers, Ralph, Aaron, Frank, Clarence, Homer, Ira and John; and six sisters, Martha Matter, Dora Shadle, Laura Harmon, Maggie Koppenhaver, Gertie Schwalm and Mabel Weaver.

Surviving are 22 nephews and nieces.

Graveside services were held Friday, May 21, at Maple Grove Cemetery, Elizabethville, with the Rev. Joe Yorks officiating.

Memorial donations requested to the American Cancer Society Capital Region Unit, 3211 N. Front Street, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110. Hoover Funeral Home, Inc., Elizabethville, was in charge of arrangements.

Rae A. Fisher
Rae Anna Fisher, 65, formerly of Pine Grove, died Saturday, May 22, 2004, at Seton Manor Nursing Home, Orwigsburg.
Born in Pine Grove Township, August 5, 1938, she was a daughter of the late George H. and Edyth M. Zerbe Fisher.

She had been employed as a folder at the former Summit Station Manufacturing, Pine Grove, and retired from Berger's Market.

She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Pine Grove.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Franklin and George F. Fisher; and three sisters, Mary Ellen Hummel, Faye Krause and Ferne Lehman.

Surviving are six sisters, Lavina Nagle and Gloria Renninger, both of Pine Grove, Annette Adams of Jonestown, Joyce Balthaser of Strausstown, Joan Cake of Auburn, and Darlene Reed of Waterville; a brother, John Fisher of Tremont; nieces and nephews.

Private graveside services will be held at Hetzel's Cemetery, Pine Grove. The Rev. Canon Charles H. Morris will officiate. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, is in charge of arrangements.
