Cheryl B. Wise
Cheryl B. Wise, 56, of Halifax, died Tuesday, May 11, 2004.
Born March 14, 1948, she was a daughter of the late Gilbert Snyder of Lancaster County.

She was a graduate of Millersville High School and Millersville University of Pennsylvania, where she attained a Bachelor of Science (cum laude) in Education and a Master of Education Degree with an emphasis of study in Art Education. She also attended and studied graphic arts at the York Academy of Arts.

She served as an art teacher for 27 years. At the beginning of her teaching career, she taught at Donegal School District and later continued her career with Derry Township School District from which she retired in 2004.

She was also an accomplished graphic and fine artist. Her paintings and print graphics were exhibited throughout her career and she was recognized with many awards for her work. Most recently, she was awarded Third Prize in the 2004 Pennsylvania Water Color Society Membership Show and Second Prize in the 2004 Lewisburg Arts Council's Festival of the Arts.

She was a member of the Millersburg Area Art Association and the Susquehanna Art Society. While residing in Lancaster County, she attended and was a member of Donegal Presbyterian Church. Most recently, she attended Hope Presbyterian Church in Dauphin.

Surviving are her husband, Thomas M. Wise; a daughter, Millicent N. Wise Brown of Elizabethville; a brother, Brent Snyder and a sister, Karen Braas, both of Lancaster County.

Services were held Friday, May 14, at Hope Presbyterian Church, Dauphin. A private service and burial were held Saturday, May 15.

Memorial donations may be made to Sarcoma Research at Fox Chase Cancer Center, 333 Cottman Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19111. Joseph W. Epler Funeral Home, Northumberland, was in charge of arrangements.

Kathryn M. Barnes
Kathryn M. Finley Barnes, 80, of Williamstown, died Friday, May 7, 2004, of natural causes.
Born August 14, 1923, in Williamstown, she was a daughter of the late John E. Finley and Mary L. Grubb Finley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George D. Barnes, who died in 2001; a granddaughter, Karen Hoffman in 2001; and an infant brother, William, who died at birth.

Surviving are a daughter, Lynda R. Shoop, Fletcher, NC; two sons, John M. Hoffman, of Dornsife, and Randy S. Hoffman of Tower City; three brothers, Richard J. Finley of Duncannon, John E. Finley of Medford, NJ, and Warren L. Weaver of Williamstown; and a sister, Mary E. Stover of Orwin; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at Fairview cemetery, Williamstown, Wednesday, May 12, at 11 a.m. Interment services will be held in Fairview cemetery.

The family would appreciate contributions to Liberty Hose Co. No. 1 of Williamstown, PA or The American Cancer Society, Harrisburg, PA. Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., Williamstown, is in charge of arrangements.

Mae A. Bohner
Mae A. Bohner, 91, a resident at Susquehanna Lutheran Village, died Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at the village.
Born July 1, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Susan Latsha Bohner.

She worked many years in the garment industry retiring from the former Muskin Shoe Factory, Millersburg and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Millersburg.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Phillips.

Surviving are a brother, Clayton of Mechanicsburg; a sister, Jean Romberger of Millersburg and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held on Friday, May 7, at Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Millersburg. Interment was in Stone Valley cemetery, Hickory Corners.

Memorial donations may be made to her church, 324 North Street, Millersburg, PA 17061. Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Millersburg, was in charge of arrangements.

Benjamin M. Brown
Benjamin M. "Pap" Brown, 76, of Pine Grove, died Monday, May 3, 2004, at home.

Born in Pine Grove, April 24, 1928, he was a son of the late John F. and Maude Haldeman Brown.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He had been employed as a miner and then at Quaker Alloy Casting, Myerstown.

He served as the steward for the Pine Grove Fish & Game Association, where he was also a member and was a social member of the Pine Grove VFW.

He was preceded in death by a son, John M. Brown, on January 16, 2003; and three brothers.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, the former Pearl Rhody; five sons, Randy and David, both of Ravine, Barry of Frackville, Michael and Marty, both of Pine Grove; two brothers, Alvin D. of York, and Roy W. of Pine Grove; a sister, Hilda I. Zimmerman of Pine Grove; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Thursday, May 6, in the H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove. Interment was in Hetzel's cemetery, Pine Grove. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, was in charge of arrangements.

Helen P. Dockey
Helen P. Dockey, 82, of Hegins, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at the Friendly Nursing Home, Pitman.
Born in Berrysburg, March 21, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Claude N. and Joyce A. Radel Deibler. She was educated at Koppenhaver's School, Berrysburg area.

She was retired, having been employed by various factories in the Millersburg and Valley View areas and later as a cook by the Tri-Valley School District, Hegins.

She was a member of Friedens Lutheran Church, Hegins.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Williams; two brothers, Norwood and Guy Deibler.

Surviving are her husband, Clyde D., whom she married on June 14, 1941; a daughter, Joyce R. Masser of Pitman; three sisters, Renee Attinger of New Cumberland, Marlene Filarsky of Lompoc, Calif., and Marie Wilbert of Halifax; two brothers, Marlin Deibler of New Cumberland, and Warren Deibler of Millersburg; two grandsons; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services were held Monday, May 10, at Christ United Church of Christ, Leck Kill, with the Rev. Mark Rothermel officiating. Interment was in Friedens Lutheran cemetery, Hegins. Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, Klingerstown, was in charge of arrangements.

Marie M. Faust
Marie M. Faust, 62, of Lykens, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at the Harrisburg Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Albert and Mildred Bechtel Snyder.

Surviving are her husband, Joseph Faust and Daisy Lee.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 10, at the John R. Shultz Funeral Home, Lykens, with the Rev. James C. Bonsell officiating. Interment was in St. John's Lutheran cemetery, Hill Church, Mifflin Twp. John R. Shultz Funeral Home, Lykens, was in charge of arrangements.

Sybilla E. Gilbert
Sybilla E. "Sue" Gilbert, 90, formerly of Pine Grove, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at Rest Haven nursing home, Schuylkill Haven.
Born in Pine Grove, February 4, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Charles L. and Lottie Lengel Lengle.

She was a 50-year member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Pine Grove, where she had been a former member of the Lutheran Church Women's Organization.

She was a caregiver for her parents, brothers, aunts and uncles.

Preceding her in death were her husband of 54 years, George D. on March 29, 1989; a grandson, Kevin Krause; two brothers, Fred W. and Paul Lengle.

Surviving are four daughters, Anna Wertz, Nancy Miller, Mattie Tobin and Mary Bohr, all of Pine Grove; a son, Charles of Pine Grove; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday, May 11, from H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, with the Rev. Dr. Richard Schoenleber officiating. Interment was in St. Peter's Lutheran cemetery, Pine Grove. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, was in charge of arrangements.

William R. Koppenhaver
William R. “Bob” Koppenhaver, 78, Tower City, died Saturday, May 8, 2004, of natural causes, at the Lebanon Rehab Center, Lebanon.
Born December 4, 1925, in Valley View, he was a son of the late Clair and Martha Bixler Koppenhaver.

He attended Gratz Area School. He served in the US Army as a Tec 4th, in World War II, and was a Life Member of the VFW of Gratz. He retired from Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers, Harrisburg, as a ceramic tile setter.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Violet E. Koppenhaver; two daughters, Sandra M. Romberger of Palmyra, and Brenda Stenger of Ashburn, VA; a son, Lynn W. Koppenhaver; two brothers, Clair Koppenhaver, Jr., of Gratz, and Leroy Koppenhaver of Maine, two sisters, Dorothy Weist of Mechanicsburg, and Joan Curtis of Harrisburg; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be at the Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., 644 E. Grand Ave., Tower City, on Thursday, May 13, from 10-10:30 a.m. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the funeral home, Thursday, May 13, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Indiantown Gap National cemetery, Annville, with full military honors.

Donations may be made to American Heart Association, Berks/Schuylkill Chapter, Pottsville, PA 17901. Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., Williamstown, is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph L Shuey
Joseph L. Shuey, 66, of Williamstown, died Saturday, May 8, 2004, of natural causes.
Born May 13, 1937 in Porter Township, he was a son of the late Charles W. Shuey and Betty E. Schrope Shuey.

He was a 1955 graduate of Porter Township High School. He was a retired Supervisor at Perk Foods Inc., Camp Hill, retiring in 1994 . He was also a Security Guard for AMP Corp. from 1994 to 1999 when he had to retire due to ill health. He was a member of Teamsters Union Local No. 776, and a social member of Williamstown American Legion.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles R. and Paul A. Shuey; and two sisters, Dorothy M. Shuey and Blanche E. Miller.

Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Helen M. Yuslum Shuey; two sons, Scott A. Shuey of Harrisburg, and Brian L. Shuey of Williamstown; a brother, John W. Shuey of Michigan; a sister Betty J. Bush of Tower City; and two grandchildren.

Services will be on Wednesday May 12, at 1 p.m. from The Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., 644 East Grand Avenue, Tower City. Relatives and friends may call and visit with the family at the funeral home on Wednesday morning, May 12, from 12 noon until time of services at 1 p.m.

There will be no evening visitation. Interment services will be held in Sacred Heart cemetery, Williamstown. Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., Tower City is in charge of arrangements.

Gertrude E. Speece
Gertrude E. Speece, 95, formerly of Elizabethville, died on Thursday, May 6, 2004, in the Tremont Nursing Home, Tremont.
Born on April 22, 1909 in East Salem, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late John and Laura Lukens Hubbert.

She was a retired seamstress from the former Ned Rich Co., Elizabethville. She was a lifetime member of Salem Lutheran Church, Elizabethville, member of the local senior citizens group, and belonged to local card clubs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vern Speece; a brother; and five sisters.

Surviving are a daughter, Shirley Miller; three grandchildren, all of Elizabethville; a brother, Robert Hubbert of Richfield; and six great-grandchildren.

Services were held on Monday, May 10, at Hoover Funeral Home, Inc., Elizabethville. Interment was in Maple Grove cemetery, Elizabethville.

Memorial donations may be made to her church at 205 West Main Street, Elizabethville, PA 17023. Hoover Funeral Home, Inc., Elizabethville, was in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Ann Verbish
Ruth Ann Verbish, 66, died Saturday, May 8, 2004, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
Born in Lykens she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Ruth Hawk Bobroski.

She had retired as a secretary from the former Libro Shirt Mfg. Co., and was a 1955 graduate of the former Lykens High School.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn.

Surviving are her husband, Larry C. Matter; four children, Thomas M. Verbish Debbie R. Verbish, Patti A. Verbish and Jessica A. Matter, all of Lykens; six grandchildren; and a great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. Wednesday, May 12, at the John R. Shultz Funeral Home, Lykens, with the Rev. Marleen Griffith-Stull officiating.
Interment will be in Our Lady Help of Christians cemetery.

Viewing will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3211 N. Front St., Harrisburg, PA 17110. John R. Shultz Funeral Home, Lykens, was in charge of arrangements.
