Curtis W. Weaver
Curtis William "Bill" Weaver, 55, of Halifax, died Monday, May 3, 2004, at his residence.
Born in York, hen was a son of Joseph and Jane Helfrich of Dallastown.

He was a graduate of York Catholic High School. He retired BM1 U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War. He also worked at Kelly Systems in Harrisburg.

Surviving in addition to his parents, are his wife, Carol Leffler Weaver; a son, James of Harrisburg; a daughter, Desiree' Weaver of Halifax; two brothers, Paul Weaver of Dallastown and Mark Helfrich of Colorado; three sisters, Regina Green of Tequesta, FL, Rachel Dock of Selinsgrove, and Rebecca Hamberger of York; and five grandchildren.

Memorial graveside services with military honors were held on Saturday, May 8, at Rolling Green cemetery, Camp Hill.

Memorial donations may be made to Navy Relief Fund, 4015 Wilson Blvd., 10th Floor, Arlington, VA 22203. Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Elizabethville, is in charge of arrangements.

Christopher Bingaman
Christopher K. Bingaman, 22, of Frackville, formerly of Tower City, died April 26, 2004 in a crash of a Black Hawk helicopter during a training flight from Fort Bragg, N.C., into South Carolina.
Born in Lebanon, November 25, 1981, he was a son of Donann Lawson, Frackville, and the late Bruce K. Bingaman, who died in 1999. He was a 2000 graduate of Cardinal Brennan High School.

Bingaman served in the Army as the crew chief and was assigned to Company A, 1st Battalion, 159th Aviation regiment.

He was of the Methodist faith.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Catherine Bingaman.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his step-father, David C. Lawson of Frackville; paternal grandfather, Arthur Bingaman of Tower City; maternal grandparents, Donald and Elizabeth Fortner of Ocean City, Md.; a brother, Bruce J. of Gilbertsville; a sister, Jessie Bingaman of Reston, Va.; three step-sisters, Shawn Coniglio of Nesquehoning, Jessica Knapp of Shenandoah, and Brandy Lawson of Ringtown; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 7, at First United Methodist Church, Frackville, with the Rev. Nancy Haigh Ross officiating. Interment will be in Odd Fellows cemetery, West Mahanoy Township. Nice-Hart Funeral Home Inc., Frackville, is in charge of arrangements.

Sarah C. Brosius
Sarah C. "Callie" Brosius, 94, of Dornsife, died Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland.
Born in RR1 Dornsife, February 21, 1910, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Sarah Etta Schreffler Kieffer. She was educated in the former Union School, RR1 Dornsife.

She was a lifelong member of Himmels Lutheran Church, Rebuck.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry L., on May 31, 1994; a daughter, Jean L. Klock, on October 14, 2002; two sisters, Marie Barbour and Florence Alva Brosius; four brothers, John, David and Kenneth Kieffer and an infant.

Surviving are a son, Guy H. of Silverado, Calif.; two daughters, Marge Bordner and Virginia Klinger, both of RR2 Herndon; four sisters, Mazie Snyder of RR5 Sunbury, Pauline Rebuck of Montgomery, Erma Rebuck of Dornsife, and Anna Hampton of Vacaville, Calif.; two brothers, Earl and Robert Kieffer, both of RR1 Dornsife; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services were held Saturday, May 1, at Himmels Lutheran Church, Rebuck, with the Rev. Frederick Faust officiating. Interment was in Himmels cemetery, Rebuck. Memorial contributions may be made to the Himmel’s Church Memorial Fund, Rebuck, PA 17867. Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, Klingerstown, was in charge of arrangements.

Jared D. Brown
Jared David Brown, age 18, of Hegins, died Sunday, May 2, 2004 at his home.
He was born in Pottsville on April 7, 1986.
He was a Senior at Tri-Valley High School where he was a member of the Chess Club and the Boxing Club. He was active in the Martial Arts. He had worked in his fathers coal mine and at the Hegins Trap Club. He planned to attend the Bradley Academy of Visual Arts, York, to study animation.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Henry Gable.
Surviving are his father Alfred John Brown, with whom he resided; his paternal grandparents Robert A. and Mary E. Brown of Hegins, and his maternal grandmother Elizabeth Gable of Shamokin.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 6, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley View, with the Rev. Carl Shankweiler officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley View. There will be no viewing. Interment will be in Salem cemetery, Weishample.

Memorial contributions can be made to the memorial fund c\o Gratz National Bank, P.O. Box 816, Valley View PA 17983. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, is in charge of arrangements.

Kelsey E. Brown
Kelsey Elizabeth Brown, 13, of Hegins, died Sunday, May 2, 2004, in Conyngham Twp, Columbia Co.
She was born in Pottsville, on May 5, 1990.

She was an 8th grade student at the Tri-Valley High School, where she was a member of the Leo Club, SADD, Students Against Tobacco, SWAT, the School Musical, the Band, and the Band Front. She was also a member of the Schuylkill Youth Symphony Orchestra. She had worked at the Hegins Trap Club.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather Henry Gable.
Surviving are her father Alfred John Brown of Hegins, with whom she resided; her paternal grandparents Robert A. and Mary E. Brown, of Hegins; and her maternal grandmother Elizabeth Gable, of Shamokin.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 6, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley View, with the Rev. Carl Shankweiler officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday at the church. There will be no viewing. Interment will be in Salem cemetery, Weishample.

Kirstin M. Brown
Kirstin Mae Brown, 16, of Hegins, died Sunday, May 2, 2004, in Zions Grove.
She was born in Pottsville on October 3, 1987.

She was a a Sophomore at the Tri-Valley High School, where she was a member of the Leo Club, SADD, Teens Against Tobacco, SWAT, the School Musical, the Band and the Marching Band. She was also a member of the Schuylkill Youth Symphony Orchestra. She had worked at the Hegins Trap Club.

Catherine Geist
Catherine Geist, 91, of Pylesville, MD, formerly of Hegins, died Friday, April 23, 2004, at her residence.
Born in Hegins, she was a daughter of the late James Irvin and Mary Celeste Ressler Kuntz.

She was a member of the Fallston Presbyterian Church, Fallston, MD.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd W. Geist.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Ann Harvey of Pylesville, MD; a son, James F. Geist of Glen Burnie, MD; a sister, Mary Naomi Kuntz of Pylesville, MD; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were held in Fallston Presbyterian Church, Fallston, MD, on Monday, April 26, with the Rev. Mitchell L. Millen officiating. Interment was in Highview Memorial Gardens, Fallston, MD.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Maryland Affiliate, Inc., 415 N. Charles St., PO Box 17025, Baltimore, MD. 21203. McComas Funeral Home, PA in Bel Air, was in charge of arrangements.

Grace A. Hatter
Grace Alberta Hatter, 80, of Bethesda, MD, died Sunday, April 25, 2004, at Sibley Memorial Hospital, Washington, DC.
Born in Jordan Twp. Northumberland County, she was a daughter of the late John A. and Mable M. Leitzel Schlegel. She was a graduate of the former Hegins Twp. High School.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold LaMar Hatter, who died in 1979; and two brothers, Guy and Ray Schlegel.

Surviving are a daughter, Jeanne H. Pyles of Bethesda, MD; three sisters, Irene Thomas of Colesville, MD, Arlene Louthian of Fairfax Station, VA, and Alma Maglin of Mt. Vernon, VA; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Private graveside services were held at the convenience of the family at the Church of God cemetery, Valley View. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, was in charge of arrangements.

Kathryn M. Reisch
Kathryn M. Reisch, 94, of Susquehanna Lutheran Village, Millersburg, died Sunday, May 2, 2004, at the village.
Born October 19, 1909 in Elizabethville, she was a daughter of the late Harry E. and Melinda Bonawitz Hoke.

She was a graduate of the former Elizabethville High School, retired from Johnson-Bailey Shoe Company, Millersburg, as a machine operator and was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Millersburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Reisch, who died on June 21, 1959.

Surviving are two sons, Harold A. and John E. Reisch, both of Millersburg; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Religious services will be held on Thursday, May 6, in Reinhard Funeral Home, Millersburg, with Rev. Penny Dollar, Pastor officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill cemetery, Millersburg. Reinhard Funeral Home, Millersburg, is in charge of arrangements. Friends are invited to call on Wednesday, May 5, from 6-8 p.m. and on Thursday a 1/2 hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Gary W. Sallada
Gary W. Sallada, 51, of Millersburg, died Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, Md.
Surviving are his wife, Cynthia A.; two sons, Bryant and Gary, both of Millersburg; a brother, Keith of Lykens; a sister, Barbara Davis of Harrisburg; and five grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at the convenience of the family in Fairview cemetery, Muir. John R. Shultz Funeral Home, Lykens, was in charge of arrangements.

Hannah S. Smeltz
Hannah S. Smeltz, 83, of Pillow, died Monday, April 26, 2004, at Susquehanna Lutheran Village.
Born in Dunkelberger, Northumberland, August 11, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Charles Richard and Maggie Bobb Philips.

She was a member of Salem Zion Church, Pillow.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Smeltz, who died in 1986; and a grandson.

Surviving are two sons, Dennis Smeltz of Pillow, and Dale Smeltz of Hegins; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Religious services were held Friday, April 30, at the James A. Reed Funeral Home, Pillow, with the Rev. Daniel Busch officiating. Interment was in Pillow Grandview cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Salem Zion Church Memorial Fund, Pillow PA 17080. James A. Reed Funeral Home, Pillow, was in charge of arrangements.

Delores F. Smith
Delores Faye Smith, 68, of Tremont, died Sunday, April 25, 2004, at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, Pottsville.
Born in Valley View, August 21, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Gurney E. and Gertie B. Klouser Bixler.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Tremont.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther J. Sr.

Surviving are a daughter, Debbie L. Stutzman of Valley View; four sons, Luther J. Jr. of Hamburg, Terry L. and Carl L., both of Tremont, and Joseph F. of Lamar, Mo.; a sister, Christine Morgan of Valley View; a brother, Palmer Bixler of Valley View; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside memorial services were held Friday, April 30, at Indiantown Gap National cemetery, Annville. David J. Boyko Funeral Home, Macungie, was in charge of arrangements.
