Mary E. Lesher
Mary E. Lesher, 95, of Halifax, died Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, at the Messiah Village in Mechanicsburg.

Born in Washington Twp. on September 11, 1908, she was a daughter of the late Henry H. and Daisy M. Heller Hoffman.

She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Fisherville.

She worked at the former Lindon Tea Room in Harrisburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob T. Lesher; two step-sons, Melvin and Harold Lesher.

Surviving are a step-daughter, Ethel Reiber and a step-son, Clarence Lesher, both of Halifax; a sister, Lottie Nace of Millersburg; eight step-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; and four step-great- great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Services were held on Friday, March 5, at Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., in Elizabethville. Interment was in Fairview Enders cemetery.

Memorial donations may be sent to her church at P.O. Box 633, Halifax, PA 17032. Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Elizabethville, was in charge of arrangements.

Paul R. Matter, Sr.
Paul R. Matter, Sr., 77 of Halifax, died on Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, in the Harrisburg Hospital.

Born in Halifax, June 6, 1926, he was a son of the late Harold E. and Margaret R. Miller Matter.

He was a retired "Operating Engineer" for the International Union of Operating Engineer's Local, No. 542.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Enterline; Halifax Historical Society; National Rifle Association; and Millersburg American Legion No. 326.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, William J. Matter.

Surviving are his wife Nancy O. Miller Matter at home; four sons, Paul R. Matter, Jr. of Boiling Springs, Charles R. Matter of Halifax, David E. Matter of Woolrich, and Daniel J. Matter of Halifa; a daughter, Susan M. Snyder of Apache Junction, AZ; two brothers, Joseph Matter of Huntingdon, and Harold Matter of Halifax; two sisters, Romaine Hoover and Velma Pennybaker, both of Camp Hill; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held on Wednesday, March 3, at Hoover Funeral Home, Inc., Millersburg, with the Rev. Michael Petresky officiating. Interment with military honors was in Bowerman's Church cemetery, Enterline.

Memorial donations may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Central PA Chapter, 55 South Progress Avenue, Harrisburg, PA 17109, or to Halifax Historical Society, 3rd and Market Streets, Halifax, PA 17032. Hoover Funeral Home, Inc., Millersburg, was in charge of arrangements.

Alice R. McAndrew
Alice R. McAndrew, 92, of Pine Grove, formerly of Lost Creek, died Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.

Born in Shenandoah, she was a daughter of the late James and Bridget Noon Thompson.

She was a registered nurse.

She was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dominick, in 1958; a daughter, Alicia E. Ratkiewicz, in 2001; a sister, Eleanor Cuff.

Surviving are three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, March 6, in St. Mary Magdalen Roman Catholic Church, Lost Creek, by the Rev. Richard Brensinger. Interment was in St. Mary cemetery, Ringtown. William F. McDonald Jr. Funeral Home, Girardville, was in charge of arrangements.

Clifford S. Miller, Jr.
Clifford Samuel Miller, Jr., 82, of Millersburg, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004 at home.

Born in Millersburg on March 10, 1921, he was a son of the late Clifford S. and Margaret I. Hoffman Miller, Sr.

He was a Veteran of World War II, where he earned a bronze star. After the war, he worked as an aircraft mechanic at Olmsted Air Base and Mechanicsburg Army Depot. He was also co-owner of Cliff's Appliance Store and Apartments in Millersburg. He was a member of the 106 Infantry Division Association; American Legion Post No. 648, Halifax; former member of the Valleys U.C.C., Halifax; and former Secretary for the Twin Valleys Lions Club.

Surviving are his wife, Betty P. Bower Miller whom he married in 1944; a daughter, Nancy Miller-Noll of Bellefonte; two sons, Clifford S. Miller III, of Millersburg and Jay R. Miller of Halifax; a sister, G. Virginia Bower of Halifax; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Hoover Funeral Home Inc., Millersburg on Thursday, March 4, with the Rev. Steve Heinbaugh officiating. Interment with military honors was at Oak Hill cemetery, Millersburg.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Central PA, 98 S. Enola Drive, P.O. Box 266, Enola, PA 17025, or to the Humane Society, 7790 Grayson Road, Harrisburg, PA 17111. Hoover Funeral Home Inc., Millersburg, was in charge of arrangements.

James M. O'Neill
James M. O'Neill, 68, of Lykens, died Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at Harrisburg Hospital.

He had retired as a communications technician from AT&T; and as a school bus driver from Harris Transportation Corp., Millersburg. He was class president and a 1953 graduate of the former Lykens High School and a Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Church; Liberty Hose Co. No. 2, for over 30 years and the Telephone Pioneers.

He was preceded in death by a son, Steven O'Neill and a grandson, Joey O'Neill.

Surviving are his wife, Grace P. Weist O'Neill; a son, Wayne O'Neill; a daughter, Christine Warner, both of Lykens; two brothers, Jack O'Neill of Bowie, MD and Joseph O'Neill of Cocoa, FL; two sisters, Jean Klinger of Tower City and Mary Jane Heim of Orwin; and three grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Saturday, March 6, at the John R. Shultz Funeral Home, with the Rev. Keith J. Schmuck officiating followed by Liberty Hose Co. services. Interment was in Maple Grove cemetery, Elizabethville. John R. Shultz Funeral Home, was in charge of arrangements.

Miriam S. Speece
Miriam S. Bingman Speece, 87, of Millersburg, died Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

Born on July 8, 1916 in Beavertown, Snyder County she was a daughter of the late James and Mamie Rearick Bingman.

She and her late husband, Howard A. Speece, were part owners of Speece's Dairy. Since May 2000, she had been a resident at Polk Personal Care Center in Millersburg.

She was a member of Clark's Valley Zion Evangelical Congregational Church and was a former member of the Ladies Aid and Missionary Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard A. Speece.

Surviving are two daughters, Carol Epperly of Fairfax, VA, and Virginia Beaver of Millerstown; a sister, Hulda Grabbe of McClure; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 3, at Clark's Valley Zion Evangelical Congregational Church with the Rev. Gary C. Luckenbill officiating. Interment was at Dauphin Memorial cemetery.

Memorial donations be made to Clark's Valley Evangelical Congregational Church, 210 McKelvey Road, Dauphin, PA 17018.

Jesse H. Geigle Funeral Home, Inc., 2100 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, was in charge of arrangements.

Norma C. Wenrich
Norma Carrie Wenrich, 80, of Spring Glen, died Monday, Feb. 1, 2004, at Geisinger Health South Rehabilitation Hospital, Danville.

Born in Greenbriar, August 17, 1923, she was a daughter of the late George and Millie Kline Headdings.

She retired in 1994 as an egg candler at Sauders Egg Processing. She also worked in the egg processing department at Spread Eagle Farms, Quaker State Farms and AA Shade.

She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Sacramento.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen H., in 1970; five brothers, Marvin, Charles, Paul, Clarence and Mark Headdings; a sister, Eleanor Paul.

Surviving are three sons, Kerry L. of Valley View, Blair A. of Spring Glen, and Charles S. of Tower City; three brothers, Woodrow Headdings of Camp Hill, Gene Headdings of Gratz, and Dallas Headdings of Dalmatia; a sister, Gladys Cooper of Elizabethville; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

There were no services. Interment was at the convenience of the family in St. Paul's cemetery, Sacramento. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, was in charge of arrangements.

Ernest L. Wolfgang
Ernest L. Wolfgang, 75, of Elizabethville, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, at home.

Born in Hegins, he was a son of the late David L. and Carrie M. Schlegel Wolfgang. He was a longtime resident of Williamstown.

He was a retired coal miner.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Lou Houtz; a grandson, Glenn Jones Jr.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret L.; two sons, Duane and Darren, both of Williamstown; a daughter, Brenda Jones of Williamstown; two brothers, Wayne L. of Millersburg, and Kenneth of Middletown; three sisters, Mae Walkinshaw of Williamstown, Helen Snyder of Dornsife, and Phyllis Bixler of Joliett; four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter.

Graveside services were held Saturday, March 6, at Riverview Memorial Gardens, Halifax, with the Rev. Marleen Griffith-Stull officiating. Central Pennsylvania Cremation Society, Harrisburg, was in charge of arrangements.

Ralph C. Wolfgang
Ralph C. Wolfgang, 78, of Ashland, died Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, at Shamokin Area Community Hospital.

Born at Mowry, March 24, 925, he was a son of the late Walter R. and Elizabeth Sell Wolfgang. He was educated in the Barry Township schools.

He was a retired farmer and had also worked for Amy's Sportswear, Valley View; Penn Dye, Pine Grove; and retired in 1994 from Sears, Frackville as a maintenance worker.

He was a member of Christ's United Lutheran Church, Ashland and its Men's Group; a member of the property committee for the Twin Valley Conference; the Gordan Senior Center; and a volunteer at the Gordan Food Pantry.

He had been a former caretaker at the Kimmel's cemetery for several years, a former member of the Weishample Grange, trustee of the former St. Peter's and St. John's Joint Council of the Twin Valley Parish, secretary of the former St. Peter's Lutheran Sunday School, and Church Council.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Iva M. Derr Wolfgang, who died July 4, 1993; a sister, Emma Wolfgang and six brothers, Luther, Lester, James, Raymond, Russell, and Milton Wolfgang.

Surviving are two daughters, Sally A. Tice, and Carrie E. Hummel, both of Ashland; a son, John W. Wolfgang of Ashland; four sisters, Elizabeth Wetzel, Ruth Wolfgang, and Anna Jeanette Wolfgang, all of Ashland, and Jean Cress of Locust Gap; a brother, Walter Wolfgang of Girardville; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 3, at Christ's United Lutheran Church, Ashland. Interment was in St. John's "Kimmel's" cemetery, Ashland.

Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Earl R. Zechman
Earl R. Zechman, 81, formerly of Pine Grove, died Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.

Born in Lebanon, March 23, 1922, he was a son of the late Lester and Mable Minnich Zechman.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a prisoner of war.

He retired after 42 years in the Sucker Rod Department of Bethlehem Steel Corp., Lebanon.

He was a member of Outwood Lutheran Church, Pine Grove, Lebanon County Beagle Club, Pennsylvania Dog Owners Association, Jonestown American Legion Post, Kittatiny Hunting and Fishing Club, Freedom Chapter of the POWs and National Rifle Association.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Anna Noll, who died in 1992.

Surviving are a daughter, Shelva Kotsch of Annville; a son, Arlen R. of Ono; a brother, Harry of Myerstown; three sisters, Mary Schilling of Cleona, Ann Law of New Holland, and Elvena Mohn of Jonestown; three grandchildren.

Services were held Wednesday, March 3, from the Outwood Lutheran Church. Interment was in Jacob's Lutheran cemetery, Pine Grove. Kreamer Funeral Home Inc., Annville, was in charge of arrangements.
