Beatrice P. Pennypacker
Beatrice P. Pennypacker, 84, formerly of Helfenstein, died Monday, August 4, 2003, at the Pottsville Hospital.

Born in Helfenstein, July 28, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Ann Marlow Maurer.

She was a member of the Church of Nazarene, Lavelle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles F. Pennypacker, who died March 16, 1998; a sister, Stella Miller, and four brothers, Arthur, Earl, Paul, and Raymond Maurer.

Surviving are a daughter, Bernice E. Singmaster; a brother, Luther Maurer of Pitman; three sisters, Naomi Yarnell of Grand Terrace, CA. Miriam Wetzel of Pitman, and Esther Wetzel of Helfenstein; a grandson; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, August 10, from the Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, RR 1, Klingerstown, with the Revs. John Clough and Rick Newman officiating. Interment was in the Christ Church cemetery, Fountain Springs.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gideon International, PO Box 174, Pine Grove, 17963-0174. Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, RR 1, Klingerstown, was in charge of arrangements.

Stanley P. Primeau
Stanley P. Primeau, 82, of Tremont, died Wednesday, August 6, 2003, at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.

Born in Ogdensburg, N.Y., September 17, 1920, he was a son of the late William Sr. and Selina Thibert Primeau.

He was employed as a theatrical lighting technician in New York.

He was of the Catholic faith.

He was the last member of his generation.

Surviving are his wife, the former Florence Bradley of Pine Grove; two sons, Wayne of Pine Grove, and Stanley Jr. of York; a daughter, Suzanne Roe of Chula Vista, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services were held at the convenience of the family. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, was in charge of arrangements.

James L. Reiner Sr.
James L. Reiner Sr., 72, of Millersburg, died Wednesday, August 6, 2003, at Harrisburg Hospital.

Born in Sheridan, he was a son of the late Beneville and Beulah Wise Reiner.
He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

He was retired from the former TRW, Harrisburg.

He attended the Millersburg Assembly of God Church.

He was preceded in death by a son, John R., who died in 1970.

Surviving are a son, James L. Jr. of Millersburg; a daughter, Jean M. Eyster of Millersburg; a brother, Kenneth of Lykens; two sisters, Irene Zigner and Carol Reiner, both of Tower City; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services were held Monday, August 11, from the Chapel of Dimon Funeral Homes Inc., Tower City. Interment was in Greenwood cemetery, RD Tower City. Dimon Funeral Homes Inc., Tower City, was in charge of arrangements.

George J. Schaeffer Sr.
George J. "Boop" Schaeffer Sr., 74, of Williamstown, died Thursday, August 7, 2003, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

He was an Army veteran.

He was a retired foreman at AMP Inc., Williamstown.

He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Williamstown, Williamstown American Legion Post 239, Williamstown Veterans of Foreign Wars, Tower City Loyal Order of Moose 1603, and the Knights of Columbus, Lykens.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, the former Doris C. Miller; two sons, George J. Jr. and Kenneth L., both of Williamstown; two daughters, Cheryl C. Long of Tower City, and Carol S. Maurer of Williamstown; his step-father, Jacob Frederick Sr. of Pottsville, two step-brothers, Jacob Frederick Jr. and Richard Frederick, both of Williamstown; three step-sisters, Anna Mae Troutman and Doris Fox, both of Williamstown, and Mary Reed of Millersburg; and six grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, August 11, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, with the Rev. Robert Panza officiating. Interment was in the parish cemetery. Dimon Funeral Homes Inc., Williamstown, was in charge of arrangements.

Ray M. Schaffner
Ray M. Schaffner, age 83, of Harrisburg, died Tuesday, August 5, 2003, in Harrisburg Hospital.
Born April 4, 1920 in Red Cross, he was a son of the late David and Mae Knorr Schaffner.

He was a retired Railroad Conductor for Conrail Railroad, formerly the Reading Railroad. He was of the Protestant faith. He served in the United States Army during World War II as a Sergeant of the 239th Chemical Base Depot Company.

He was a member of the Harrisburg Masonic Lodge No. 629, Tall Cedars Forest No. 43, Harrisburg Consistory, Zembo Temple, Zembo Directors Unit, and Life Member of the Tower City American Legion.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Bernice M. Hand Schaffner; a son, Dennis R. and his wife, Darlene Schaffner; a daughter, Ann L. and her husband, Dean Gutshall; three grandsons, Troy and his wife, Tammy Gutshall, Chad Gutshall and Colby Schaffner; and a brother, Clair D. Schaffner.

Masonic services were held Friday, August 8, in the Hoover Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Linglestown. Funeral services followed. Interment was in the United Church of Christ cemetery in Orwin.

Contributions may be made to the Tall Cedars Foundation, 2609 North Front Street, Harrisburg, 17110. Hoover Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Linglestown, was in charge of arrangements.

Robert J. Seip
Robert J. Seip, 74, of Williamstown, died Thursday, August 7, 2003, at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey.

Born in Wiconisco, April 19, 1929, he was a son of the late Edward and Anna Clouser Seip.

He was a Marine Corps veteran.

He was retired from Fort Indiantown Gap, Annville, and had been the Williamstown borough chief of police for 12 years.

He was a member of Williamstown United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 239 and Liberty Hose Company No. 1, all of Williamstown.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Elwood.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years on June 2, Elaine M. Seip; a daughter, Deborah K. Venesevich of Annville; two sons, Robert A. of Palmyra, and Gary E. of Harrisburg; and grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 11, from Dimon Funeral Homes Inc., Williamstown, with the Rev. Elizabeth Whitehead officiating. Interment with full military honors was in Fairview cemetery, Williamstown. Dimon Funeral Homes Inc., Williamstown, was in charge of arrangements.

Robert C. Wilhelm
Robert C. Wilhelm, 72, of Pine Grove, died Sunday, August 10, 2003, at his home.
Born in Pine Grove, Nov. 15, 1930, he was a son of the late Thomas and Agnes Yorty Wilhelm.

A 1948 graduate of Pine Grove High School, he was employed as a leather cutter for 38 years at Garden State Tanning, Fleetwood, retiring in 1993.
He was staff sergeant in the Air Force, having served during the Korean Conflict with 405th Field Maintenance Squadron, 134th Fighter Group and the 449th Fighter Interceptor Squadron. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

He was a member of Pine Grove Weslyan Church, where he served as the assistant Sunday school teacher for 18 years. He was a previous member and consistory member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Ravine. He was also a member of CLEAN, Pine Grove.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford; and a sister, Anna Wilhelm.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, the former Betty Boyer; two sons, Steve and Scott, both of the Pine Grove area; eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 3, from the H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, with the Rev. Timothy Moore, the Rev. David Pickett and the Rev. James Leitzel officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran cemetery, Pine Grove. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, is in charge of arrangements.

Irvin C. Adams
Irvin C. Adams, 88, of Gratz, died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at Harrisburg Hospital.

Born in Rebuck, October 5, 1914, he was a son of the late Clemens I. and Annie E. Adams Adams.

He was the owner of Irvin C. Adams Motors from 1946 until 1979, and President of Adams Ford Inc. from 1979 until retirement. He was a member of Good Shepherd EC Church, Gratz; and a Lifetime member of the Dauphin Co. Volunteer Fireman Association and the Gratz Fire Company. He was an active member of the Gratz Fair Association; and a charter member of the Dutchmen's Paradise Hunting Camp, Clinton County.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Clara May; three brothers, Russell, Howard, and Marvin; and a sister, Mary Sydney Brown.

Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Pauline M. Snyder Adams; a son, Paul J. H. of Gratz; two brothers, Dr. Eugene Adams of Millersburg, and Barnie Adams; two sisters, Josephine Erdman of Millersburg, and Annabelle Febig of Kulpmont; two grandsons; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held Saturday, August 2, from Good Shepherd EC Church, Gratz, with the Rev. Randy Sizemore officiating. Interment was in Gratz Union cemetery, Gratz.

Memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd EC Church, Gratz, 17030. James A. Reed Funeral Home, Pillow, was in charge of arrangements.

Anna V. Lentz
Anna Violet Reisch Lentz, 87, formerly of Dundalk, MD, died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at the Villa Teresa Nursing Home in Harrisburg.

Born in Elizabethville, she was the daughter of the late Isaac J. and Carrie E. Hassinger Reisch. She was the widow of Robert C. Lentz.

She was a member of United Methodist Church of Dundalk, MD; Trinity U.M. Church of Elizabethville, PA; and enjoyed many summers with her husband at the Lykens Valley Camp Meeting Association in Elizabethville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Lentz; two brothers, Paul and Ernest Reisch, and two sisters, Sarah Troutman and Gertie Brightbill.
Surviving are two sisters, Mary Radel of Dauphin, and Edith Burrows of Millersburg; two brothers, Isaac J. Reisch of Hummelstown, and Robert R. Reisch of Amissville; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Services were held on Friday, August 1, at Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Elizabethville. Interment was in Maple Grove cemetery in Elizabethville.

Memorial donations may be made to Lykens Valley Camp Meeting, Camp Street, Elizabethville, 17023. Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Elizabethville, was in charge of arrangements.

Paul W. Bloch
Paul W. Bloch, 75, of Hegins, died Sunday, August 3, 2003, at the Friendly Nursing Home, Pitman.

Born in Hegins Township, August 23, 1927, he was a son of the late Wilson and Mary Geist Bloch.

He was retired from TRW, Harrisburg. Previously he was a local coal miner. He was a member of Weishample Church of God. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Deeter Bloch, who died in 1998; two sisters, Mary Yoder and Ellen Steransky; seven brothers, Harold, Herman, Raymond, Oscar, William, Arthur, and Daniel.

Surviving are a companion, Erma Sweigart, with whom he resided; a son, Randall Bloch of Hegins; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 6, at 11 a.m. at the Weishample Church of God, Weishample, with the Rev. Glenn Detter officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to any cancer related charity. Miller-Berger Funeral Home, Valley View, is handling arrangements.

Margaret K. Bressler
Margaret K. Bressler, 88, of Valley View, died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at her daughter's home in York.

Born in Valley View, December 20, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Charles R. and Mary R. Schwalm Updegrave. She was a 1932 graduate of the former Hegins Township High School.

She was a retired seamstress from the former Philmark Mfg., Valley View. She was a member of Frieden's United Church of Christ, Hegins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde E. Bressler, who died in 2000; and a brother, Russell Updegrave.

Surviving are a daughter, Lorraine Miller of York, with whom she resided; a son, Clyde A. Bressler of Delta, Ontario; a sister, Mildred Kuntzleman of Tower City; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services were held Saturday, August 2, from the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, with the Rev. Claude Schach officiating. Interment was in Fountain Community cemetery, Fountain.

Memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice of York, 218 E. Market St., York, 17403. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, was in charge of arrangements.
