HARRY J. WEIST, formerly of Gordon, Pennsylvania, passed away September 24th, at his home in St. Petersburg, Florida, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Gordon, Pennsylvania on September 4, 1930 to the late William and Florence (Rickard) Weist, he was a graduate of Ashland High School and Bloomsburg University.
He was a lifelong member of the Simpson United Methodist Church of Gordon.
He was the owner and operator of Rickard’s Royal Farms in Gordon from 1958 to 1989.
A lifelong Republican, he served as Schuylkill County Treasurer for twelve years from 1971 to 1983.
Harry served in the U.S. Government in both Philadelphia working for the U.S. Department of Education, and in Washington, DC, at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
A veteran of the United States Navy, Harry served for four years during the Korean Conflict on the USS A.P. Damato DD 871.
Harry was a member of many civic organizations, including the American Legion; Veterans of Foreign Wars; Amvets (Past Commander); Gordon Amvets; Citizen’s Fire Company, Gordon; Schuylkill County Fireman’s Association; the Gordon Gun Club; the National Rifle Association; the Schuylkill County Federation of Sportsman; the Masonic Lodge Prince of Peace Commandry; and he served as past president of the Ashland Kiwanis and a member of B.P.O.E 394. Harry also served as President of the North Schuylkill Jr.-Sr. High School Building Authority.
In 1993, he and his wife Regina retired to St. Petersburg, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Glenn W. Weist, of Gordon, on July 13, 1986.
He leaves his wife of 51 years, the former Regina (Jean) Osinski, two daughters, Abbie, wife of Morgan Bowden of Ft. Myers, Florida, and Regina, wife of Greg Nagle of Benicia, California, and two grandchildren, Kalin and Jamison Nagle. In addition, he leaves a niece, Amy Weist of Alexandria, Virginia, and two nephews, Bill and Glenn Weist of Frackville, a great niece and four great nephews, among other relatives.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 27th at 11:00 am at the Simpson United Methodist Church, Gordon. Rev. John Wallace will officiate. Interment will be immediately following at Christ Church cemetery, Fountain Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to Hospice of the Flordia Suncoast, 5571 Roosevelt Blvd, Clearwater, FL 33760 or Simpson United Methodist Church, Biddle Street, Gordon, PA. 17936. Kull-Heizenroth Funeral Home, Ashland, PA is in charge of arrangements.

Dolores E. Welsh, 84, formerly of 16 W. Center St., Ashland, PA died Wednesday, September 26th, 2007 at Shenandoah Manor Nursing Center, Shanandoah, PA.
Born in Ashland, PA September 5, 1923 she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Garah) Brecker. She graduated from Ashland High School Class of 1941. She was last worked Oxford Dress Manufacturing Co., Shamokin, PA and
Second Street Sportswear, Ashland, PA. She was a member of St. Mauritius Church, Ashland; the Holy Rosary Society; Friends of St. Joseph, Ashland, PA.
She was a member of the Ashland Elks auxiliary BPOE #384 and V F W auxiliary Post # 7654, Ashland, PA.
Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were her husband Edward (Mickey) Welsh in 1994; and her sister Margaret Yarnell February 2007.
Surviving are a son Joseph M. Welsh Sr. of Enola, PA.
A sister survives: Louise Hardnock, Ashland, PA.
Two grandsons: Stephen A. and Joseph M. Welsh Jr.
Two great granddaughters: Jacy and Jessalyn Welsh. Nieces & Nephews survive.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mauritius Church, Ashland, PA Saturday September 29, 2007 at 11:00 AM. Rev. Adam C. Cedar officiating.
Interment immediately following in St. Joseph's cemetery, Ft. Springs, , PA.
Visitation Saturday 10:00-11:00 AM in St. Mauritius Church, Ashland, PA.

Lewis Mather, 71, of 1827 Walnut Street, Ashland. passed away Sunday, October 14th, 2007 at the home of his daughter Kathy Trautman in Ft. Springs, PA.
Born in Ashland, PA November 25, 1935 he was the son of the late Robert and Laura (Strobel) Mather He was a United States Army Veteran serving in the Korean War. He was a member of Zion's Reformed United Church of Christ, Ashland. Graduated from Ashland High School class of 1953. He was a member of the Good Fellowship Club, Ashland; American Hose Company, Ashland; V.F. W. Post of Ashland and was active with the Ashland Little League for many years. He was last employed as a High Voltage Supervisor for the State Department of Pennsylvania until retirement. He was a member of the Cold Springs Hunting Club, Poe Valley, PA.
He was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen (Derr) Mather in 1984.
Surviving are two daughters one son: Robert husband of Madora Mather, Ashland, PA; Deborah Scott, Ashland, PA; Kathy wife of Mark Trautman, Fountain Springs, PA.
Three sisters: Nyle Reynolds, Donnelly Mills, PA; Kay Fertig, Ashland; and Sandra Shutt, Elizabethtown, PA.
One brother - one sister preceded him in death: Lamar Mather and Shirley Rusk.
Five grandchildren survive; Jessica, Mark, Neil, William, & Brandon.

Kathleen McBride died Saturday October 13, 2007 in Wasilla, Alaska.
Kathleen was formerly of Ashland, PA and was the daughter of Margaret (Peggy)
Joyce Scott of Ashland and the late Robert Scott, died in 1983. She was born August 26, 1968 in Ashland. She graduated from Cardinal Brennan High School Class of 1986and was a United States Air Force Veteran serving for nine years.
Surviving in addition to her Mother are her husband Kevin McBride, Wasilla, Alaska
and two children: Christine and Robert McBride at home.
Three brothers one sister survive: Joyce Ann wife of Joseph Kenny, Ashland, PA;
Thomas Scott, Croydon, PA; Charles husband of Theresa Scott, Orwigsburg, PA; and Rob husband of Kelly Scott, Ashland, PA. A father-in-law survives: Everett
McBride, Castle Rock, Colorado
Two brother-in-laws: Paul and Dean McBride. An Aunt survives: Doris Scott, Ft. Springs, PA. Nieces, Nephews and Aunts survive.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Friday, Oct. 19, 2007 at 11:00 AM in St.
Joseph's Church, Ashland, PA. Rev. Adam Sedar Officiating. Interment in Sky
View Memorial Park, Hometown, PA at the convenience of the family.
Visitation Thursday 6:00-9:00 PM in St. Joseph's Church, Ashland, PA and Friday
10:00-11:00 AM in St. Joseph's Church, Ashland, PA.

Ruth Kyler Wetzel of 308 S. 2nd Street Ashland. passed away Thursday, October 18th, 2007 peacefully at her residence.
Born in Ashland she was the daughter of the late E. Nolan and Florence (Lamb) Kyler. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Ashland, PA.
She was professionally known as Ruth Kyler attending Eastman School of Music;
Rochester University before studying in Manhattan with Frank LaForge for 9 years.
Ms. Kyler then opened Ruth Kyler Studio in Ashland where she taught music theory, voice and piano until her retirement in 2004.
She was preceded in death by her husband Homer Wetzel in 2005.
Two sons survive: Kurt Wetzel of Ashland and Gregg Wetzel of Nashville, Tn.
One brother survives: Robert husband of Jane Kyler, Ashland.
Three grandchildren survive: Blake Wetzel, Jake Wetzel and Sloane Wetzel.
Nieces & Nephews survive
Services will be held Monday at the convenience of the family from the Kull-Heizenroth Funeral Home, Ashland, PA. Rev. Dana Heckman-Beil officiating.
Interment in Christ Church cemetery, Fountain Springs, PA.

BURD "Bud" KAUFMAN, 82 formerly of Gordon, PA died Friday October 19, 2007.
at the home of his Daugher at 1733 Walnut Street, Ashland surrounded by his Family and Friends.
Born in Gordon, PA April 16, 1925 he was the son of the late Alfred and Anna (Ferner) Kaufman. He was a Member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Ashland and former member of Simpson United Methodist Church, Gordon, PA.
He was a United States Navy Veteran serving in World War I I and Korea, Normandy, North Africa, Sicily, Salerno, & Anzio from 1942 to 1952. While in the Navy he received numerous Ribbons and Medals including the Purple Heart and the Silver Star for amphibious defeats. He later worked for the Reading Railroad. After retiring was a Security Guard at the Ashland Hospital.
Bud was very active in his 82 years of life enjoying traveling, camping and serving his community and country. He served on the Gordon Borough Council for several years. He was also a member of the Citizens Fire Co., Gordon, PA where he was Fire Chief from 1954 to 1979. In 1972 when the flood hit Gordon hard he called in the Army National Guard to help the residents of Gordon. He was also a member of the American Hose Co., Ashland, PA. A member of the American Legion Post 309, Girardville, PA; V F W Post 2110, Mt. Carmel, PA; Purple Heart Association, Mt. Carmel; Anvets Post 44, Gordon, PA; Schuylkill County Volunteer Fighters Association; Good Fellowship Club, Ashland, PA. He was Past Commander of the American Legion Post 434 of Ashland, PA
Preceding him in death were his wife Anna (Betty) Dreher; sister in law Adeline (Lovey) Kimmel, Sister: Janice M. Kaufman; and Aunt Beatrice Ferner.
Surviving are two daughters- one son: Larry Joe Kaufman husband of Phyllis, Giardville, PA; Sandra Kaufman and fiancee Robert Lentes, Ashland; and Janice wife of Brian Keller, Germanville, PA.
He also leaves behind his best friend OBIE, his dog. In the last years of his life Obie and Bud became inseparable. Where Bud went his faithful dog Obie went. Fourteen Grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren survive. Nieces & Nephews survive. Bud will be missed by all and was a great friend to young and old. He was always good for a few laughs and was a wonderful Son, Husband, Father and Grandfather.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007 at 11:00 AM from the Kull-Heizenroth Funeral Home, Ashland, PA. Rev. Dana Heckman Beil & Rev. John Wallace officiating. Interment in Indiantown Gap National cemetery.
Visitation Tuesday 6:00-9:00 PM and Wednesday 10:00-11:00 AM from the Kull-Heizenroth Funeral Home, Ashland, PA. Memorial contributions can be made to American Legion Post 309, Girardville, PA Kull-Heizenroth Funeral Home, Ashland is in charge of arrangements.

Marcia Miller Hornung, longtime resident of Ashland, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, early Saturday morning. She was 73 years old. Mrs. Hornung was born in Ashland on August 27, 1934, the daughter of the late Ray H. and Catherine Kehler Miller. She was a 1952 graduate of Ashland High School and the McCann School of Business. Mrs. Hornung was employed as a secretary for Cummin's Diesel, Ashland, and St. Luke's Hospital, Bethlehem, PA for several years. Most of her life, however, was dedicated to her family and home. Mrs. Hornung was a resident of the Mount Carmel Assisted Living during the last four months of her life. She was preceded in death by her much loved husband, Russell G. Hornung, a sister, Catherine Miller Skolsky; and a brother R. Daniel Miller.
Mrs. Hornung will be missed by her daughter and son-in-law Vicki and Arthur Reyes of San Jose del Cabo, Mexico, her daughter and son-in-law Marcia and Stephen Slaton of Northumberland, PA, her son and daughter-in-law Russell R. and Christina Hornung of Hockessin, DE and her beloved grandchildren Elise Marcia, Nathaniel Arthur and Matthew Russell Reyes all of Mexico and Chiara Hornung from Hockessin, DE. Other surviving family members are a loved sister, Mrs. Beverly Miller Fahs of Bethlehem, PA; a dear cousin, Mrs. Mamie Evans Wetzel of Locust Dale; and a close aunt, Mrs. Sadie Klinger Kehler of Hegins. Mrs. Hornung also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and her true friends, The Jolly Players. Many will miss seeing her walking her beloved beagle, Micki.
Mrs. Hornung was a life long member of the Ashland Methodist Presbyterian Church where memorial services will be held on Friday, November 23 at 11 AM. Rev. Alva Cassel will officiate. Interment will immediately follow the memorial service in Christ Church cemetery, Ft. Springs, PA. In leiu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ashland Methodist Presbyterian Church, North Ninth Street, Ashland, PA. Kull Heizenroth Funeral Home, Ashland, is in charge of the arrangements.

MARION A. BIRD, 80, 844 Fountain St., Ashland, PA died Sunday, November
18, 2007 at Trinity Mission, Shenandoah, PA.
Born in Butler Twp. March 24, 1927 she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and
Doris (White) Neumeister. She was a member of SImpson United Methodist Church, Gordon, PA. She worked as a bookkeeper for the Frackville Block Company, Frackville, PA; Anthony's Foods; and T.J. Barts until her retirement.
She attended Butler Twp. Schools.
She was preceded in death by a daughter Helen (Lori) Shoup; two sisters: Arlene Wisnoskie, and Helen (Tootie) Neumeister. A great grandson preceded her in death: Damiane Deiter.
Surviving are her husband Irvin Bird of Ft. Springs. Three daughters survive:
Sandra Beaulieu, Ashland; Kathy Brzoska, Gordon; and Susan Flotcavage, Gordon
One brother survives: James Neumeister, Ft. Springs, PA.
17 Grandchildren 11 Great grandchildren Nieces & Nephews survive.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 24, 2007 at 12 Noon in Simpson United Methodist Church, Gordon, PA. Rev. John Wallace officiating.
Interment in Christ Church cemetery, Ft. Springs, PA.
Visitation Saturday 9:00-11:30 AM from the Kull-Heizenroth Funeral Home, Ashland
