HARLAND J. KING
FARMINGTON, Pa. - Harland Junior King, 64, of RD 2, Farmington, died Wednesday, May 6, 1998, at his home.
Born July 15, 1933, in Friendsville, Md., he was a son of the late Harland W. and Sylvia (Harding) King, and stepmother Florence King. He also was preceded in death by a son, William Edward King, in 1986; three brothers, Donnie Dale King, Kennie King, and an infant brother; paternal grandparents, Ezra and Elma King; and maternal grandparents, George and Etta Harding.

Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Marilyn Kay (Cuppett) King; three children, Rickie Jay King and wife Cindy, Farmington, Debra Kay Sproul and husband James, Ohiopyle, and David Paul King and wife Marcia, Mill Run; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Riggin King Zorichak, Uniontown; five grandchildren, Jamie, Jennifer and Shawn King, Curtis Sproul and Daniel King; half brothers and sisters, Judy King, Corinth, W.Va., Richard King, Bruceton, W.Va., Mrs. Lloyd (Linda) Oster, Friendsville, Dennis King, Friendsville, and Tommy King, Oakland, Md.; two aunts, Dorothy Savage, Friendsville, and Mrs. William (Nellie) Youngblood, McHenry, Md.; and one uncle, James King, Friendsville.

Friends will be received at the Donald R. Crawford Funeral Home, Hopwood, Friday from 2 to 9 p.m., and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Sansom Chapel United Methodist Church, Farmington.

Services will be conducted at the church on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Terry Collins officiating.

Interment will follow in the Asher Glade cemetery.

MARGARET I. HYATT
HYNDMAN, Pa. - Margaret Irene Hyatt, 92, of Hyndman, died Sunday, March 15, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born Feb. 20, 1906, in Hyndman, she was a daughter of the late Frederick W. and Priscilla G. (Albright) Bruck. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Hyatt, on Nov. 3, 1963; and a brother, Ray Bruck.

Surviving are eight children, Herman Rawlings, with whom she resided, Robert Ray Hyatt DeVore, Oak Park, Ill., Cloyd Hyatt, Cumberland, Telford Hyatt, Pasadena, Md., Vivian Shroyer, Ellerslie, Md., Janet Bittner, Crystal River, Fla., Yvonne Morris, Gloucester, Va., and Sheila Sturba, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; a stepson, Dickie Hockman, Newark, Ohio; two sisters, Helen DeVore, Hyndman, and Phyllis Eisentrout, Fort Ashby, W.Va.; 22 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild.

Mrs. Hyatt was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Hyndman.

A memorial service will be conducted at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Monday, March 23, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Roger Johnson and the Rev. Julie Applegate officiating.

KENNETH G. JEWELL
BEDFORD, Pa. - Kenneth Grant Jewell, 76, of Bedford Valley, died Monday, Nov. 16, 1998, at his home.
Born April 28, 1922, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of the late William B. Jewell and the late Rosa Lee (Jenkins) Jewell. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Katherine (O'Donnell) Jewell, on Sept. 12, 1998; three brothers, Marcus, Boyd and Randolph; and two sisters, Bertha and Rosa Lee.

Kenneth graduated from Fort Hill High School in 1941. Enlisting in the U.S. Army immediately after graduation, he became a Corporal, and when the United States entered into World War II, he entered flying school and became a "Flying Sergeant." He became a test pilot for B-17s, but left for combat in a B-24 Liberator. Enroute to the European Theatre of Operations, he made an emergency landing on Sept. 8, 1943, at the Cumberland Municipal Airport, which, at that time, was under construction. Having made several passes over the city before landing, the war plane drew a large crowd of spectators and the plane was immediately cordoned off because it was combat-ready except for the bombs that would be loaded into the bay of the bomber later. The crew proceeded on to their base in England and were immediately sent into action. Jewell completed 29 missions, rose to the rank of Major and was retired after being seriously wounded on the outskirts of Berlin. Having earned the Distinguished Service Cross, the Distinguished Flying Cross with two clusters, the Air Medal with five clusters, the Silver Star with one cluster, and the Purple Heart, he continued his interest in the military and was instrumental in helping to establish the Veterans Memorial at Centerville, Pa.

He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church where he was active in the Sunday School, Official Board, and other church activities. He was a member of the Elks, Grange, Moose, Kiwanis, and Cumberland Valley Veterans Association. He was very active in the community, state and national affairs. Kenneth retired as District Magistrate and enjoyed reading, golfing and bowling with the Senior Citizens.

Surviving are two sons, Matthew Jeffrey "Jeff" Jewell and wife, Marlene, Mount Savage, Md., and Jerome "Jerry" Kenneth Jewell and wife, Linda, Phoenixville, Pa.; two daughters, Jennifer Teresa "Teri" Solano and husband, James, Villanova, Pa., and Jeanette "Jeanie" Rose Imler and husband, Rudy, with whom Kenneth resided; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, William W. Jewell, Cumberland, and Darl "Ace" Jewell, Bedford; and four sisters, Mattie Kennedy, Frostburg, Bette Reynolds, Cumberland, Jean Cooley, Bedford, and Shirley Stoner, Little Orleans, Md.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Tuesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. only.

Graveside services will be conducted on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Bethel United Methodist cemetery on Bedford Valley Road, with the Rev. Fred J. Ney officiating. Interment will be in Bethel United Methodist cemetery. Military honors will be accorded at graveside by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cumberland Valley Veterans Association, 595 Lake Gordon Road, Bedford, PA 15522-5226, in care of Roger Twigg.

FAYE R. GRIFFITH
BEDFORD, Pa. - Faye R. Griffith, 66, of RD 3, Bedford, died unexpectedly on April 9, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born Jan. 25, 1932, in Cumberland, she was a daughter of the late William H. and Hulda (Riggleman) Moreland. She was married to Ralph E. Griffith, who preceded her in death on April 7, 1997. She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Funk, and Evelyn Thompson and her husband Joe; and one brother, Maurice Moreland.

She is survived by one son, Gerald M. Griffith, RD 3, Bedford, married to the former Christine Harbart; two grandsons, Jason and Jacob; two sisters, Katherine, wife of Ernest Landros, Windber, and Dolly Setnick, widow of Henry Setnick, Warner Robins, Ga.; sister-in-law, Mabel, widow of brother Maurice Moreland; and brother-in-law, Floyd Funk, widower of her sister Gladys Funk.

Mrs. Griffith was affiliated with the Grace Brethren Church of Harrisburg, and had been employed by the Howard Johnson Restaurant in Harrisburg as a waitress before her retirement. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Eagles.

Friends may call at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, Bedford, on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services.

Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, April 11, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ruth S. Kershner officiating.

Interment will be in the Fellowship cemetery, Centerville.

M. CATHERINE LEHMAN
HYNDMAN, Pa. - M. Catherine Lehman, 88, of Rock Hill, S.C., formerly of Hyndman, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at the White Oak Manor Nursing Home, Rock Hill.
Born April 12, 1909, at Meyersdale, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Minnie (Albright) Short. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Lehman, on March 9, 1978; a son, Donald Lehman; a daughter, Mary Bagley; and a brother, Lawrence Schardt.

Surviving are three grandchildren, Donald Lehman Jr., Daniel Lehman, and Mary Ann Searles; five great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Janet Lehman, with whom she resided.

Mrs. Lehman was a retired bookkeeper, and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. While living in Hyndman, she was an active member of the Hyndman First United Church of Christ.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Ruth S. Kershner officiating.

Interment will be in the Hyndman cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the Hyndman United Church of Christ, Hyndman, PA 15545.

CECELIA R. KLINE
HYNDMAN, Pa. - Cecelia Rebecca Kline, 78, formerly of Hyndman, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998, at Penn Knoll Village, Bedford.
Born Sept. 22, 1920, in Fairhope, she was a daughter of the late Oliver and Minnie (Clites) Emerick.

Mrs. Kline is survived by a son, Ray A. Kline and wife, Sharon, Stephens City, Va.; daughters, Audrey C. Shaffer and husband, Stephen, Hyndman, Rhonda R. Hawkins and fiance, Jimmy Roberson, Stephens City, Amanda G. Campbell and husband, Dennis, Middletown, Va.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In 1992, Mrs. Kline was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Ray M. Kline. She was also preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.

Mrs. Kline, a homemaker, attended the Fairhope Community Church. She had been an active member of the Bedford County Democratic Committee.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Leister officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland, Md.

ALZENE S. HORNER
HYNDMAN, Pa. - Alzene Sara Horner, 95, formerly of Hyndman, died Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, at Meyersdale Nursing Home, Meyersdale.
Born Oct. 14, 1902, in Hyndman, she was the last surviving child of the late Jonas and Sarah Elizabeth (Minnick) Coughenour.

Mrs. Horner is survived by sons David A., married to Aneve (Stahlman), and Richard N., married to Faith (Korns) Horner, both of Hyndman; daughters Anna E. Kirchner, also of Hyndman, Phyllis A. Metz, Wichita, Kan., and Mary Jane Moore, State College; daughter-in-law Mary Lou (Gaumer) Horner, Hyndman; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

In 1993, Mrs. Horner was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Albert Calvin Horner, and by son, Robert L. Horner.

Mrs. Horner was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Avenue United Methodist Church, Hyndman, and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Julie L. Applegate officiating.

Interment will be in Hyndman cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be sent to the Annie Horner Bible Class, First Avenue United Methodist Church, Hyndman, PA 15545.
