LESTER H. KORNS
HYNDMAN, Pa. - Lester Harvey Korns, 89, of R.D. #1, Hyndman, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born Dec. 5, 1909, in Wellersburg, he was the son of the late Earl T. and Ella (Lepley) Korns.

Mr. Korns is survived two sons, Pastor Ken L. Korns and wife, Carole J. Korns, Ellerslie, Md., and David R. and wife, Becky J. Korns, Wellersburg; a sister, Lucretia Sturtz, also of Wellersburg; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

In 1958 Mr. Korns was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Grace (Troutman) Korns.

Mr. Korns was a farmer who bred and raised Belgian and quarter horses. He was a member of Calvary Bible Church, Ellerslie, and the Mason-Dixon Saddle Club. He was also an honorary member of the Meyersdale Chapter F.F.A.

Services will be conducted at the Calvary Bible Church on Monday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ken L. Korns officiating. Friends will be received at the church beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Cook's cemetery, Wellersburg.

ALICE M. HARDEN
MEYERSDALE, Pa. - Alice M. Harden, 79, of Berlin, formerly of Meyersdale, died Oct. 21, 1998, in Meadow View Nursing Center, Berlin.
Born Sept. 2, 1919, in Frostburg, Md., she was a daughter of the late Charles A. and Bessie (Simpson) Brode. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James W. Harden; and sister, Leona Skidmore.

She is survived by a brother, Irvin C. Brode, Lonaconing; niece, Darlene Ann Capel, Frostburg, Md.; and sister-in-law, Ruth Lashley, Frostburg.

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Meyersdale. She was retired as manager of G.C. Murphy Company, Meyersdale, with 31 years of service.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale, where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, with Pastor Randall Marburger officiating.

Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park, Frostburg.

RONALD J. HERSHBERGER
CLEARVILLE, Pa. - Ronald James Hershberger, 40, of Beans Cove, Clearville, died Saturday, March 7, 1998, at his residence.
Born Dec. 10, 1957, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of Robert G. and Sara Patricia (Close) Hershberger, Beans Cove, Clearville. He was preceded in death by one brother, Bill Hershberger, in 1982.

Mr. Hershberger was the previous owner of Ron's Phillips 66, White Oaks, Cumberland, and Ron's Mobil Station, LaVale, Md. He was currently a tractor-trailer driver for Owen's Trucking, Short Gap, W.Va., and raised beef cattle in Beans Cove. He was a member of the Cumberland Outdoor Club, and was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.

Surviving are his wife, Kimberly Ann (McDonald) Hershberger; two sons, Robert James Hershberger and Kenneth Michael Hershberger, and one daughter, Laura Lynn Hershberger, all residing at home; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at noon with the Rev. William H. Bice and the Rev. Fred Iser officiating. Interment will be in the Davis Memorial cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Owens, Kenny Owens, Randy McDonald, Steven McDonald, Harold McDonald Jr., and Charles Buck Taylor Jr.

MARY K. JEWELL
BEDFORD, Pa. - Mary "Tiz" Katherine (O'Donnell) Jewell, 73, of RFD 3, Bedford, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, as she was DOA at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born May 18, 1925, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Bernard W. O'Donnell and the late Bernadette Virginia (Thuss) O'Donnell. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Carl O'Donnell.

Mrs. Jewell was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Sunday School and other church activities. She also was a member of the Bedford Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

She was the devoted wife of Kenneth G. Jewell, Bedford, and they were married Jan. 30, 1943. Also surviving are two sons, Matthew Jeffrey "Jeff" Jewell and wife Marlene, Mount Savage, Md., and Jerome Kenneth Jewell and wife Linda, Phoenixville, Pa.; two daughters, Jennifer Teresa Solano and husband James, Villanova, Pa., and Jeanette Rose Imler and husband Rudolph, Centerville, Pa.; a brother, Bernard O'Donnell, Catonsville, Md.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Always concerned and interested in her children and grandchildren, she will be deeply missed by all of them.

The Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, is in charge of arrangements and there will be no public viewing.

Graveside services will be conducted on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Bethel United Methodist cemetery on Bedford Road with the Rev. Fred J. Ney officiating.

Interment will be in Bethel United Methodist cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bethel United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, in care of Harold Shoemaker, RFD 3, Box 187, Bedford, PA 15522 or to the charity of the donor's choice.

PHYLLIS R. KIEFER
HYNDMAN, Pa. - Phyllis Rebecca Kiefer, 80, of 107 George St., Hyndman, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
A daughter of the late Earl T. and Rachel J. (Shroyer) Gaumer, she was born June 12, 1918, in Boswell, Pa.

She is survived by her husband, William Kiefer, Hyndman; brothers Stanford L. Gaumer, Baltimore, Md., and William W., married to Dolores L. Gaumer, Hyndman; sister, Freda F. Bryant, Miami, Fla.; and sisters-in-law, Jane Ryan, Hyndman, and Louise Wall, Scottdale, Pa.

One brother, Curtis E. Gaumer, and two sisters, Mildred Deneen and Edna Lepley, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Kiefer was a homemaker. She was an active member of Wills Mountain Church of Christ, Hyndman, where she had been part of the Harvesters' Class, taught Sunday school and assisted with the youth group.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with Evangelist Harry T. Ryan officiating.

Interment will be in Comps cemetery.

ALMA NORA KENNELL
HYNDMAN, Pa. - Alma Nora (Boyer) Kennell, 77, of R.D. 1, Hyndman, died Thursday, June 18, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born Oct. 29, 1920, in Southampton Township, Somerset County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mae (Shroyer) Boyer. On June 11, 1991, Jesse, her husband of 51 years, also preceded her in death.

She is survived by four sons, Charles "Joby," married to Leona Teters, Corriganville, Raymond "Buck," married to Mable, Frostburg, Clyde S., married to Virginia, and Harry "Mush," married to Ruth, all of R.D. 1, Hyndman; six daughters, Betty Cook, Hyndman, Nancy, wife of Paul Murray, R.D. 1, Hyndman, Anna Neubiser, Wellersburg, Delores, wife of Robert Reese, R.D. 1, Hyndman, Jessie, wife of Ronnie Spiker, and JoAnn, wife of Jeff Shaffer, both of Hyndman; three sisters, Dorothy Bryant, Patricia, married to Lester Bittner, and Hazel, married to Irvin Weimer, all of R.D. 1, Hyndman; an aunt, Pauline Ringler, Hyndman; 32 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a very special cousin, Nellie Dom, Cumberland.

Mrs. Kennell was a homemaker and a waitress. She worked at Kline's Restaurant, Cumberland, and at DeHaven's Restaurant, Corriganville.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ken L. Korns and the Rev. Henry L. Crissinger officiating.

Interment will be in Comps cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to either the Ellerslie Ambulance Service or to the Wellersburg Fire Company.

PAUL P. LAPENNA
ORANGE PARK, Fla. - Paul Peter LaPenna, 84, formerly of Centerville, Pa., died Monday, Oct. 26, 1998, in Orange Park where he had been residing.
Born March 23, 1914, in Long Island City, N.Y., he was the son of the late Joseph LaPenna and the late Louise (Marchese) LaPenna. He was also preceded in death by his wife, the late Elizabeth Mary (Nelson) LaPenna, in February 1994.

Mr. LaPenna was a retired employee of United Parcel Service in New York. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cumberland. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II.

Surviving are one daughter, Linda Ashby and husband, Pete, Orange Park; and a granddaughter.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, Md., on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., with the Father Milton A. Hipsley officiating.

Interment will be in Centerville Union cemetery.

Military honors will be accorded at graveside by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be Justin Bean, Richard Schade, Charles Gillum, Don Decker, James Greise and Willys Wilson.
