RUTH E. CASTIN

Ruth E. Castin, 74, of Dubois Street, Scottdale, passed away Monday evening, April 17, 2000, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Ruth was born in Connellsville, March 31, 1926, a daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine Leasure Medvec. Ruth was a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family. She was a licensed beautician, working for over 30 years, at the former Troutman's Department Store in Connellsville, where she served as manager for several years. She was also a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Scottdale. Active in church work, she served as church clerk and as a member of the Christian Board of Education for many years. Ruth was a graduate of Connellsville Area High School and a local beauty academy. Ruth is survived by her loving husband of over 50 years, Robert L. Castin; her son, Robert Castin and his wife, Melinda, of Scottdale; three very special grandchildren, Mark, Laura and Sarah Castin; a sister, Joanne Miller and her husband, Smith, of Somerset; a sister-in-law, Madeline Cunningham of Connellsville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Medvec; an infant brother; and a sister-in-law, Lorraine Warfield. Family and friends will be received at the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale, (724) 887-5300/email: rferg@a1usa.net), Wednesday from 2 to 5 and 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with her pastor, the Rev. Dr. James P. Cordell, officiating. Chapel committal services and interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Bullskin Township. The family suggests memorials to: First Baptist Church, Chestnut and Loucks, Scottdale, PA 15683, in memory of Ruth E. Castin.

MILDRED CARTER DANCU

Mildred "Mim" Carter Dancu, mother of Janet Carter, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2000, in Sheboygan, Wis. She was born July 15, 1921, in Duquesne, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Mildred Obradovich. She attended schools there and was a graduate of Robert Morris College. On Dec. 16, 1944, she married Herbert Carter, who preceded her in death on May 1, 1968. She married Earl Dancu on May 16, 1969. He preceded her in death in October 1985. She was also preceded in death by two brothers , Louis and Milan Obradovich. In addition to her daughter, she is survived by two sisters , Bertha Perkins and Mary Obradovich, both of Pittsburgh; nieces, Dayle (John) Henry of McKeesport, Cathy Obradovich of East Windsor, N.J., and Diane (Tom) Meneskie of Pittsburgh; nephews, Gary (Stella) Obradovich of Indiana, Pa., and Louis (Caroline) Obradovich Jr. of Pittsburgh; and great-nieces and great-nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday in St. Luke United Methodist Church, Sheboygan, Wis., with the Rev. Larry Moody and the Rev. Les Munnik co-officiating. DORIS MAE GAULT

Doris Mae "Dot" Gault, 77, of Jeannette, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, in the Oak Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Greensburg. She was born Feb. 28, 1923, in Ebensburg, a daughter of the late George and Maude Woleslagle Sager. She was a member of the Alliance Church of Greensburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by numerous brothers and sisters . She is survived by her husband, Robert W. Gault; two sons , the Rev. Robert W. Gault II and his wife, Lois, of Woodbridge, Va., and Kenneth Gault and his wife, Ruth, of Jacksonville, Fla.; four daughters , Gwennyth Mains of Burlington, N.C., Mariann Gault of Jeannette, Beverly Gault and her husband, Paul Hubbard, of Glen Burnie, Md., and Renee Jones and her husband, Harry, of Scottdale; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers , Glenn Sager and his wife, Ruth, of Ligonier and Robert Sager of Daytona Beach, Fla.; two sisters , Velma Miller and her husband, George, of Latrobe and Chelsea Rogers and her husband, Elbert, of Tucson, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 N. First St., Jeannette, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. D. Roy Dail officiating. Interment will follow in Jeannette Memorial Park, Penn Township.

ELIZABETH A. JONES

Elizabeth A. "Betty" Jones, 86, of Squirrel Hill, on Tuesday, April 18, 2000, went to be with the Lord on the 66th wedding anniversary of her and her late husband, Gilbert R. "Dutch" Jones. Beloved mother of Dolly J. O'Neil and Yvonne B. Rady. Sister of Claire Sacco, Harry Simon and the late Bertha Phelan, Mary Smith and Norma Lou. Grandmother of Patty, Bonnie, Bob and Deb. Great-grandmother of Michael, Trevor, Shane, Kelsea and Sarah. Foster mother of 10, including Robert James Chriswell. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME INC., 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pleasant Hills, where services will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. Entombment Jefferson Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.

MARY ANN LaPORTE

Mary Ann LaPorte, 72, of Adelaide Road, Connellsville, passed away and went to be with her Lord on Monday, April 17, 2000, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. She was born July 31, 1927, in Leisenring No. 3, a daughter of the late Domenic and Maria Concetta Orsini DeFrank. She was a member of St. Rita Roman Catholic Church. She was a housewife and homemaker who enjoyed her family and felt that a family keeping close with one another was very important in her life. She also enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. She is survived by her husband, Vincent A. LaPorte, to whom she was married 48 years; two daughters , Maria Angela LaPorte of Tempe, Ariz., and Dr. Angela Maria LaPorte and husband, Clifford P. Hughes, of Prairie Grove, Ark.; a son, David V. LaPorte and companion, Nancy Faust, of Connellsville; a granddaughter, Santa LaPorte of Tempe, Ariz.; and a brother, Albert DeFrank and his wife, Elaine, of Uniontown. She was predeceased by four brothers , Mike, Louis, Joe and Tony DeFrank. Friends will be received in the VITO C. MARTUCCI FUNERAL HOME, 123 S. First St., West Side, Connellsville, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. and Thursday morning, where a blessing service will be held at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. in St. Rita R.C. Church with the Rev. Francis Lesniowski officiating. Interment will follow in St. Rita Cemetery. A parish wake service will be held Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Because of the observance of Holy Thursday, a Memorial Mass will be celebrated for family and friends Monday, April 24, at 9 a.m. in St. Rita R.C. Church.

LEONARD OSLOSKY

Leonard Oslosky, 73, of Greensburg RD4 (Trees Mills), formerly of Export, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Jan. 7, 1927, in Export, a son of the late John and Rose (Kudray) Oslosky. Leonard was a glass cutter for the former Armcor of Delmont, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Export. He is survived by a daughter, Sandy Hainan and husband, Mark, of Export; five brothers ; five sisters ; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive relatives and friends at the VAIA FUNERAL HOME INC. AT TWIN VALLEY, 463 Athena Drive, Delmont, (724) 468-1177, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service for Leonard will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Dismas Young of St. Mary's Church as celebrant. Interment will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont. Kevin P. Altman, supervisor, in charge of arrangements.

MELANIE A. POLIVKA

Melanie A. Polivka, 45, of Bridgeville, formerly of West Newton, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, in St. Clair Memorial Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born Aug. 23, 1954, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Pauline Schaeffer Polivka of Pleasant Hills and the late Walter Polivka. She was employed as a pharmacy technician for 20 years at St. Clair Hospital. She was a member of the West Newton United Presbyterian Church and a member of the church choir. In addition to her mother , she is survived by a brother, Phillip Polivka and wife, Joanne, of Carmel, Ind.; and two nephews, Stephen and Jonathan Polivka. Friends will be received at the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., West Newton, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the chapel of the West Newton United Presbyterian Church Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William A. Sukolsky officiating. Interment West Newton Cemetery. If desired, memorials may be made to the West Newton United Presbyterian Church Choir Fund.

KATHLEEN A. SPANGLER

Kathleen A. Spangler, 44, of Josephine, died Monday, April 17, 2000, in the Indiana Hospital, Indiana, Pa. She was born Feb. 24, 1956, in Latrobe, a daughter of the late Keith B. and Eleanor A. Slezak Anderson. She was a 1974 graduate of Derry Area Senior High School and a 1987 graduate of Triangle Tech, Greensburg. Survivors include her husband, Garry W. Spangler; two sons , Kevin Latimer of New Alexandria and Jarred Zamborsky at home; two stepdaughters, Amy Spangler and Jessica Spangler, both of Bolivar; a brother, Keith L. Anderson and his wife, Darla, of Latrobe; a sister, Darlene Kelly and her husband, Jerry, of Derry; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe, Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William E. Ordelt officiating. Interment will be private.

MARY B. SURNIAK

Mary B. Surniak, 75, of Scottdale, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, in Westmoreland Manor, Greensburg. She was born May 21, 1924, in Everson, a daughter of the late Anthony and Angeline Jadwiszak Surniak. Mary was a lifelong and faithful member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Everson. She was a retired employee of the former Robertshaw Controls, Youngwood, with 35 years of service. Mary leaves to cherish her memories the following brother and sisters : Theresa E. Koza and her husband, Casimir, of Scottdale, Edward J. Surniak of Everson and Jane D. Surniak of Everson; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers , John A. Surniak, who died Jan. 26, 1998, and Joseph A. Surniak, who died Oct. 12, 1993. Mary's family will receive friends in the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 W. Pittsburgh St., Scottdale, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Dennis A. Bogusz officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph R.C. Parish Cemetery, Everson. Due to Holy Week observance, Mary's Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, April 24, in St. Joseph R.C. Church, Everson.

LILLIAN I. (ZURBO) TIMKO

Lillian I. (Zurbo) Timko, 69, of Wilkins Township, on Monday, April 17, 2000. Wife of the late Julius Timko. mother of Diane Miller of Export and Ronald J. Timko of Wilkins Township. Grandmother of April Timko of New Kensington. Sister of the late William Zurbo and the late Dorothea Zurbo. Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the PATRICK T. LANIGAN FUNERAL HOME, 700 Linden Ave., East Pittsburgh, where a blessing service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m.

PAULINE BIANCHI

Pauline Bianchi, 84, of Jeannette, died Saturday, April 15, 2000, in Westmoreland Manor, Hempfield Township. She was born March 7, 1916, in Madison, a daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Lambert Caviggia. She was a member of the Ascension Church, Jeannette, and its Rosary Altar Society. Prior to retirement, she was employed by Monsour Medical Center, Jeannette. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent C. Bianchi Sr., in 1975; four brothers , George, Mario, Albert and Anthony Caviggia; and two sisters , Edith Ciampa and Julia Bia. Surviving are three sons , Vincent C. Bianchi Jr. and wife, Suzie, of San Fernando Valley, Calif., Ronald R. Bianchi and wife, Katie, of Sylmar, Calif., and Alan A. Bianchi and girlfriend, Suzie Christofono, of Jeannette; a brother, John Caviggia and wife, Helen, of Derry; three sisters , Mary Frank of Coraopolis, Agnes Filia of California and Georgetta Shuey of Jeannette; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the JOHN V. GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 228 N. Second St., Jeannette, where a blessing service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park Mausoleum. The Ascension Rosary Altar Society will pray the rosary Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

CHESTER M. BOOHER

Chester M. Booher, 94, of Cape Coral, Fla., died Saturday, April 15, 2000, in the Gulf Village Care Center in Florida. He was born Feb. 25, 1906, in Pitcairn, a son of the late Clarence and Bertha Dewalt Booher. Prior to retirement, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 46 years, as a carrier for 33 years, then as a clerk and finally as postmaster. He was a life member of the West Penn Auto Club, a life member of the Pitcairn Fire Department, N.A.L.C., AARP, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite and the Cape Coral Executive Golf Club, and was a director of Camp B for Boys in Pitcairn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Wilson Booher; his second wife, Dorothy Barner Booher; three brothers , Russell, Leonard and Clifford Booher; and three sisters , Laura Kukenbrod, Mary Emma Leeper and one in infancy. He is survived by a son, Dr. Donald Booher and his wife, Lana, of Evergreen, Colo.; a daughter, Sandra Wootton and her husband, Woody, of North Huntingdon; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jeff Wootton and his son, Scott, of North Huntingdon, Shari Wootton of California, Pa., Mr. and Mrs. David (Cris) Dempsey of New Brockton and their daughter, Chelsea, Mr. and Mrs. James (Amy) Marsh of Waco, Texas , and their son, Bryson, Lt. Ross Booher, JAG of the U.S. Navy in Japan, and John Booher of Evergreen, Colo.; sisters -in-law, Verna Booher of White Oak and Bea Barner of Louisville, Ky.; and nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the SHIRLEY-KUKICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Clay Pike, Circleville, North Huntingdon, Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment Penn-Lincoln Memorial Park.

JOSEPHINE E. GALANDO

Josephine E. Galando, 90, of Penn Township, died Monday, April 17, 2000, in her home. She was born Feb. 18, 1910, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Frank and Sarah Hall Eckenroad. She was a member of the New Life Free Methodist Church in Harrison City for 70 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Galando Sr., in 1984; a brother, Floyd Eckenroad; and two sisters , Elizabeth Gross and Emma Fike. She is survived by two sons , Samuel Galando Jr. of Florida and Gerald Galando of Louisiana ; a daughter, Mary Etta Bertolino of Penn Township; a sister, Norah Cope of McVey Town; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Friends received at the JAMES E. LINDSAY FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Harrison City, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Additional visitation will be held Thursday at the New Life Free Methodist Church in Harrison City from 10 to 11 a.m. at which time funeral services will be held with Pastor Tim Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Brush Creek Cemetery, Hempfield Township.
