Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

MARY ADULEIT

Mary Rosick Aduleit, formerly of West Middle Road in Lykens died Friday at Polyclinic Hospital in Harrisburg.

Born in Larksville, she was the daughter of the late Margaret Rosick.

She resided in Brooklyn, N.Y., and in Lykens for the past 10 years.

She was employed at Tower Sales in Tower City.

She attended St. Stephen's School in Plymouth, and was a graduate of St. Cyril's Academy in Danville.

Surviving are her husband, William; sons , William Jr., New York City; Timothy, Millersburg; Robert, at home; daughters , Mary Ellen Nestor, Aurora, Ill.; Christine, Lyle, Ill.; Susan, at home; two grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday from the Andrew Strish Funeral Home, 11 Wilson St., Larksville with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1 Wilson St., Larksville.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

A Christian Wake Service will be at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Bernard P. Evanofski officiating.

Interment will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery in Courtdale.

Eleanor Ackerman

May 13, 1998

Eleanor Ackerman, 83, of Bear Creek Township, died Wednesday in Davis Manor, Wright Township, where she was a guest for the past several weeks.

Born in the Lyndwood section of Hanover Township, she was daughter of the late Richard and Millie Evans.

She attended Hanover Township schools.

She resided in the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre and in Bear Creek Township most of her life.

She attended the Messiah Primitive Methodist Church, Bear Creek Township.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, William C. Ackerman, in 1987; and five brothers and two sisters .

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Harold (Marlyn) Kepler, Bluffton, S.C.; sons , William R. Ackerman, Bear Creek Township; Keith P. Ackerman, Mystic, Conn.; Mark K. Ackerman, Nanticoke; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family from the H. Merritt Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 451 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre.

Interment will be in Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

ANN MARIE ADAMS

Ann Marie Adams, 45, of East Noble Street, Nanticoke died Saturday at Penn State Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Helen Groszewski.

She was a life resident of Nanticoke.

She was a graduate of Nanticoke High School, class of 1971, and Bloomsburg University, class of 1975, where she received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education.

She was employed as an elementary school teacher for Pope John Paul II for approximately 12 years, retiring in November, 1996, due to health problems.

She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, Nanticoke.

Surviving are her husband, Robert; son, Kevin, and daughter, Megan, both at home.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday from the Grontkowski Funeral Home P.C., 51-53 W. Green St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.

The Rosary will be recited at 2:45 p.m. today by the Rev. Joseph Kakereka, pastor of St. Stanislaus Church.

Agurkis, Leo

May 1, 2000

Leo K. Agurkis, 73, of McLean Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Monday at his home.

Born April 2, 1927, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Joseph and Anna (Gausis) Agurkis. He was a graduate of St. Boniface Parochial School and attended the Wilkes-Barre Business College. He worked for the American Tobacco Co., Wilkes-Barre, and at King's College. He was president of the AFL union while at the American Tobacco Co. and a member of Holy Trinity Church, East South Street, Wilkes-Barre.

He was preceded in death by his brothers , John, George, Anthony, Joseph, Stanley, Peter, Frank and Charles; sisters , Mary and Rose Argurkis, Anna Sincavage and Madeline Wascavage.

Surviving are his brother, William, Magnolia, N.J.; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, Park Avenue and South Street, Wilkes-Barre, with a funeral Mass at 9:30 at Holy Trinity Church. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Bear Creek Township. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

ALLABAUGH, THEODORE

November 29, 1999

Theodore Allabaugh, 70, of Coal Street in Plymouth, died Monday at the family home.

Born Aug. 2, 1929, in Plymouth, he was a son of the late Theodore and Dorothy (Sipple) Allabaugh.

He attended Johnson Green School in Plymouth Township and was a lifelong Plymouth resident.

Before his retirement, he was employed by Plymouth Electric as an electrician for many years. He was previously employed by the Glen Alden Coal Co. as a miner.

He was a member of the Franklin Street Primitive Methodist Church in Plymouth.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Anna Carpenter.

Surviving are his wife, the former Margaret Belcher, with whom he would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Jan. 7; children, Diane, at home; Theodore, Wilkes-Barre; and Gary, Nanticoke; two grandsons; brother, Loring, Hanover Green, Hanover Township; sisters , Dorothy Shumack, Plymouth; and Ruth Oliver, Raleigh, N.C.; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday from the S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, 530 W. Main St., Plymouth, with the Rev. Ron Gottstein, of the Franklin Street Primitive Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be in the Huntsville Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Memorial donations may be made to the Franklin Street Primitive Methodist Church.

EUGENE ALLEGRUCCI

Eugene "Gene" J. Allegrucci, of Atherton Avenue in Wyoming died Friday at Penn State Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township.

A lifelong Wyoming resident, he was the son of the late Paul and Della (DeMark) Allegrucci.

He was a 1943 graduate of Wyoming Memorial High School. He graduated from Bloomsburg University with a bachelor of science degree in education, and received masters degrees in mathematics and administration from New York University. He also attended the University of Scranton and the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.

Before his retirement, he taught in Wyoming area schools for 35 years. He was also employed as a driver for Martz Trailways for 15 years.

He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Exeter.

He was currently vice-president of the Wyoming Area School Board. He was a former Wyoming councilman and a former athletic director at Wyoming Memorial High School.

He was a member of the Board of Directors of West Side Vocational Technical School in Pringle, a PIAA registered sports official for football and basketball in Luzerne and Lackawanna counties, a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus in Pittston, and a member of the Wyoming-West Wyoming Lions Club, the Wyoming Hose Co., the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Wyoming, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 396 in Wyoming.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy and as a medic assigned to the U.S. Marines. He received the European Theatre Ribbon, and was a survivor of the invasion of Normandy.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, the former Dorothy Ravert; daughters , Adele Rogowski, Wyoming; and Gene Smith, Exeter; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Monday from the Joseph L. Wroblewski Funeral Home, 1442 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church.

Interment will be in Denison Cemetery in Swoyersville.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. The rosary will be recited Sunday afternoon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gene J. Allegrucci Memorial Scholarship Fund, Wyoming Area Senior High School, attention to Donald Butz, 20 Memorial St., Exeter, 18643.

ELIZABETH ALU

April 25, 1999

Elizabeth J. "Betty" (Belles) Alu, 38, of Girard Avenue in Plymouth, died Sunday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Kingston, she was the daughter of the late Harold W. and Mary (Sink) Belles.

She was a graduate of West Side Vocational Technical High School, Pringle, and resided in Kingston before moving to Plymouth a year ago.

She was employed as a waitress in the Wyoming Valley and was a Girl Scout leader in Kingston.

She was a member of the Forty Fort Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Deaconess.

Surviving are her husband, James A.; daughter, April Lynn Ide, Plymouth; brothers , William R. Belles, Dallas; David W. Belles, Trucksville; Robert J. Belles, Hunlock Creek; sister, Joyce Lorah, Jenkins Township; step daughters , Amanda and Paula Alu, both of Wyoming; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday from the Forty Fort Presbyterian Church, 1224 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, with the Rev. William N. Lukesh officiating.

Interment will be in St. Rocco's Cemetery, Pittston.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, Inc., 672 Memorial Highway, Dallas.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, c/o Kirby Health Center, or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 26 Mason St., Exeter, 18643.

Anderson, Robert

May 5, 2000

Robert Anderson, of Glen Cove, N.Y., and formerly of Larksville, died Friday at NSU Hospital, Glen Cove.

Born in Larksville, he was a veteran of World War II, serving with the 787th Base Depot. He was machinist for Gruman, Bethpage, N.Y., and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances.

Surviving are his sister, Sarah Croop, of Luzerne; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Whitting Funeral Home, Glen Head, N.Y. Interment will be in East Hillside Cemetery, Old Brookville, N.Y. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Glen Cove Animal Lovers League, 40 Shore Road, Glen Cove, N.Y., 11542.

Margaret Andes

May 17, 1998

Margaret Andes, formerly of Lockhart Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles (Jane) Martinez, Queens Village, Long Island, N.Y.

She was a resident of Queens Village for the last four years.

Born in Wilkes-Barre on Feb. 2, 1905, she was daughter of the late Charles and Frances Helfrich Eckenrode.

She graduated from Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.

She was a member of St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre, its Altar and Rosary Society and its Senior Citizens Club.

Surviving in addition to her daughter are her two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, in 1976; brother, Edward Eckenrode; sister, Anna Eckenrode.

Funeral services will be 9 a.m. Friday from the Walter W. Lisman and Son Funeral Home, 233 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre with a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Nicholas Church.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Nicholas Church, South Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre.
