MANNING — Terrianna Tashay Pendergrass, newborn daughter of Mary Ann Pendergrass, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital. She was born the same day. Survivors besides her mother include a brother, Damian D. Pendergrass of the home; and her maternal grandparents, Durant and Emma Pendergrass of the home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Matthews Cemetery, S.C. 261 East, Kingstree Highway, with the Bishop James L. Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of the grandparents, Durant and Emma Pendergrass, Route 2, Box 109, Lakeside Road, S.C. 261 East, Manning. MAMIE P. SINKLER

ALCOLU — Mamie Peterson Sinkler, widow of Dawson C. Sinkler, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at her home. Born Oct. 16, 1914, in Oswego, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Carrie Peterson. Mrs. Sinkler joined and was baptized at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in Sumter in her youth. She attended Kendall Institute in Sumter, Brainard Institute in Chester and Coulter Junior Academy in Cheraw. She moved to Alcolu in 1940 and joined Westminster Presbyterian Church (USA). She was employed by Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Clarendon School District 2 and Georgia-Pacific Corp. Survivors include a daughter, Carrie Sinkler-Parker of Alcolu; and a sister, Rosa P. Lawrence of Baltimore, Md. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Isaac Peterson, Alexander Peterson and Henry Peterson Jr.; and a sister, Elizabeth P. Johnson. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Westminster Presbyterian Church (USA), Plowden Mill Road, Alcolu, with the Rev. William Jones Jr., officiating, and the eulogy by the Rev. Dr. Franklin D. Colclough. The funeral procession will leave at 12:40 p.m. from the home, 5 Pinecrest Acres, Alcolu. The family will receive friends at the home. Aubrey Martin Smith, 37, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at a local nursing center. Born in Sumter, he was a son of Marsha Lloyd Smith and the late Kenneth M. Smith. Survivors besides his mother of Summerton include a sister, Kimberly Lilze of Sumter. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Larry Haddock, Dale Haddock, Donald Haddock, Cecil Wilson, John Wilson, Gary Carroway and Hank Todd. J. HENRY STUCKEY

KINGSTREE — J. Henry Stuckey, 78, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, in Columbia. Born in Nesmith, he was a son of the late Cleon W. and Annie Blakeley Stuckey. Atter attending Clemson University in 1941 and 1942, he served during World War II as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946, and later served in the National Guard. He maintained his private pilot’s license until his death. After his military service, he returned to complete his education at the University of Georgia, where he graduated in 1948 with a bachelor’s degree in forestry. He founded a forestry consultant firm in Kingstree, which he operated for more than 50 years. Mr. Stuckey served twice in the S.C. House of Representatives, serving in 1955 and 1956, and again from 1963 through 1968. He served on the House Agriculture, Ways and Means, and the Medical, Military, Public and Municipal Affairs committees. In 1970, he was elected as a member of the S.C. Public Service Commission and served for eight years. In December 2000, the S.C. Department of Transportation Commission voted to name S.C. 261 East from the town limits of Kingstree to the intersection of S.C. 261 and S.C. 24 the “J. Henry Stuckey Highway” in recognition of his many years of distinguished public service. He was a member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Tisdale Stuckey of Columbia; his children, Jimmy Stuckey of Central, Elizabeth Stuckey Mabry of Lexington, Keith Stuckey of Lexington and Mary Stuckey Freeman of Greenville, and their mother, Lucille N. Stuckey of Central; a brother, Tom Stuckey of Nesmith; three sisters, Mary Alice Shealey of Manning, Grace McCleave of Rock Hill and Imogene Hardy of Manning; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Williamsburg Funeral Home. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. ALCOLU — Martha DuPree Witherspoon, 77, widow of Sylvester Witherspoon, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at her home. Born Feb. 8, 1923, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Howard Dupree Sr. and Florence Felder Dupree. Mrs. Witherspoon attended Clarendon County public schools and received an associate degree from South Carolina State University in early childhood education. She was employed at Manning Manufactory, Clarendon County Head Start, Clarendon Memorial Hospital and Home Health. She was a faithful member of Providence AME Church, where she served on the senior choir, missionary society and stewardess board. Survivors include six daughters, Loretta Kind, Sandra Louden, Sylvia Witherspoon, Sheryl Davis and Debra Billie, all of Manning, and Florence Rosemond of Lithonia, Ga.; a foster son, Curtis Davis of Alcolu; five brothers, Oliver Dupree of Philadelphia, Pa., Howard Dupree Jr. of Troy, N.Y., and Harold Dupree, Lawrence Dupree and Jerome Dupree, all of Manning; three sisters, Dora Frazier and Janie Eversley, both of Manning, and Mary McCrorey of New York, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Providence AME Church, Mallette Road, Manning, with the Rev. Dr. Bennie Colclough, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. SCRANTON — Lattie Mae Martin Casey, 63, wife of Richard S. Casey, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, in a Florence hospital after an illness. Born in Huntsville, Ala., she was a daughter of the late Randolph “Rudy” and Mildred Ray Geer Martin. Mrs. Casey was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors besides her husband of Scranton include a son, David Casey of Scranton; and two grandchildren, Shana Casey and Cody Casey, both of Scranton. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Brockington Funeral Home in Lake City. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at the funeral home. IRMO — Larry Carlton Holloway, husband of Helen Peterson Holloway, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at 300 Albrans Road. Born March 1, 1961, in Florence, he was a son of Linzie Zimmerman and Dearia Holloway Williamson. Mr. Holloway attended Florence County public schools and Florence-Darlington Technical College. In his youth, he joined Savannah Grove Baptist Church, where he was a junior usher. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America. He was owner of H-Way Express. Survivors besides his wife and his parents include two sons, Antwan and Taylor; a stepdaughter, Latisha; a brother, Brian Zimmerman; three sisters, Lynn Jones and Cathy Williamson, both of Philadelphia, Pa., and Cherlyn Marshall of New York, N.Y.; two adopted brothers, Nathan Holloway and Bernard Holloway; and five adopted sisters, Shirley Reid, Francenia Cooper, Dorothy Davis, Dianne Sanders and Barbara Jones. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Savannah Grove Baptist Church in Effingham with the Rev. Dr. Ralph W. Canty Sr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. OLANTA — Rebecca Player Kelley, 90, widow of G. Mood Kelley, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, in an Orangeburg hospital after an illness. Born in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Rudolph Player and Karla Mims Player. Mrs. Kelley was a retired merchant and motel owner/operator. She was a member of the Elizabeth Park Circle and was the oldest active member of Olanta Presbyterian Church. Survivors include a son, Alex (Kay) Kelley of Olanta; two daughters, Sylvia Richardson of Lake City and Caroline (Sandy) Bryant of Orangeburg; a daughter-in-law, Eileen Kelley of Olanta; a special niece, Elsie K. Tomlinson; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Kelley; and a grandson, Richard Kelley. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Olanta Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Julia Harmon Seawright died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at Hopewell Healthcare Center. Born Dec. 29, 1907, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late John and Julia Harmon. Mrs. Seawright was a faithful member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, where she served on the stewardess board and was a member of the gospel choir until she became ill. Survivors include a daughter, Hattie Mae Green of Sumter; a grandson, James Green Sr. of Columbia; three great-grandchildren, Julia Green, James Green Jr. and Joseph Green, all of Columbia; and a great-great-grandson, Mikeal E. EDISTO BEACH — Kenneth Charles Hatfield, generally known as “Ken” or “Kenny,” of Fairfield Ocean Ridge, Edisto Beach, died Monday evening, Jan. 1, 2001, at his home. Born March 29, 1943, in Sumter, he was a son of Dorothy Garrett Wingard and the late Joseph Hatfield. Mr. Hatfield was a salesman for Fairfield Communities at Ocean Ridge. He attended the Presbyterian Church on Edisto Island. He was a 1966 graduate of the University of South Carolina and was a member of the SAE Fraternity. He was an avid fisherman, having competed in the S.C. Governor’s Cup. Survivors besides his mother of Sumter include his wife, Cheryl Schlesser Hatfield; two sons, Kenneth Charles Hatfield Jr. of Chicago, Ill., and Andrew Garrett Hatfield of Edisto Island; a daughter, Mary Schaeffer of Strongsville, Ohio; two stepsons, Richard Schlesser of Columbia and Scott Schlesser of Edisto Island; and seven grandchildren. SWANSEA — Bobby Edward Jumper Sr., 55, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001. Born in Columbia, he was a son of Bernice Crim Jumper and the late Edward Cleo Jumper. A lifetime local resident, Mr. Jumper was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and was formerly employed by Tamper. Survivors besides his mother of Swansea include a son, Eddie Jumper of Swansea; two daughters, Linda Humphries and Christi Jumper, both of Lexington; two brothers, Larry Jumper of Swansea and Tony Jumper of Mayesville; two grandchildren, Brittaney Humphries and Steven Humphries Jr.; and a great-granddaughter, Meredith Humphries. EUTAWVILLE — Isaac Palmer, 79, of Magnolia Manor Nursing Home in Moncks Corner and formerly of Eutawville, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at the home after an extended illness. Born Oct. 21, 1921, in Eutawville, he was a son of the late Rev. Josiah Palmer and Zadie Smith Palmer. He grew up in Eutawville and attended the public schools in Holly Hill. Mr. Palmer was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. He worked for many years at General Motors and New York City Taxi Commission. He was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church, and then of First Baptist Church in Vance. After moving to New York, he joined Little First Baptist Church of New York, where he served as chairman of the deacon board and superintendent of the Sunday school. Survivors include a son, Reggie Palmer of Sacramento, Calif.; a daughter, Gayle Palmer Muirian of New York, N.Y.; six brothers, the Rev. B.F. Palmer, Joe Palmer and John Palmer, all of Eutawville, the Rev. Ellie Palmer of Sumter, the Rev. Samuel Palmer of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., and James Palmer of Bronx, N.Y.; three sisters, Mary L. Fuller and Cora L. Bowman, both of Eutawville, and Ernestine Mack of Bronx, N.Y.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Vance with the Rev. Kenneth Carson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Felder Cemetery in Vance. WILMINGTON, N.C. — Hugh Ashton Plowden Jr., 87, formerly of Park Avenue, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at Cornelia Nixon Davis Health Care Center. Born Nov. 14, 1913, in Manning, S.C., he was a son of the late Hugh Ashton Plowden Sr. and Ann Eliza Oliver Plowden. Mr. Plowden was a member of Winter Park Presbyterian Church. He graduated from Clemson University in 1935, receiving a degree in mechanical engineering. He served in the U.S. Army on active duty from 1942 until 1946, where he was a captain in the 77th Infantry Division and received a silver star and a bronze star with oakleaf cluster. He later received the rank of lieutenant colonel on Jan. 7, 1954, in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was superintendent of Wilmington Shipyard until it closed, and later was director of operations of base maintenance at Camp Lejeune until his retirement. He was a member of the Wilmington Masonic Lodge No. 319, AF & AM, the Sudan Temple, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and was an avid camellia gardener. Survivors include two sons, David B. Plowden of Wilmington and Warren Plowden of Leland; a daughter, Mary Lou Stewart of Wilmington; two sisters, Mrs. Ashton Plowden Bozard of Manning, S.C., and Mrs. Maley Plowden Hudson of Charleston, S.C.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Anna Louisa Cathou Plowden, on July 14, 1998; and a son, Hugh Ashton Plowden III in 1951. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the Mausoleum Chapel of Oleander Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Matthew Highfill officiating. Rainey Thompson, husband of Annie Wilson Thompson, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at his home. Born Oct. 15, 1959, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Frank Thompson and Rose King Thompson. Mr. Thompson attended Sumter High School, where he was enrolled in ROTC. He was employed as a mechanic at State Tires Inc. Survivors besides his wife of the home include a son, Rainey Lamont Thompson of Sumter; two brothers, Robert Lee Thompson and Roosevelt Thompson, both of Sumter; and three sisters, Dorothy Fulton, Mary Thompson and Frances Gibson, all of Sumter. REMBERT — Jennie Belle Van Ord, 86, widow of Arthur Van Ord, formerly of Palmetto Towers in Sumter, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at her home. Born in Warren, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Ernest S. Knapp and Ruth Knapp. Survivors include three sons, James Cowles of Warren, Pa., Robert Cowles of Meadville, Pa., and Allen Van Ord of Russell, Pa.; three daughters, Merna Valone of Akeley, Pa., Marie Kibbey of Warren, and Carolyn Hamilton of Rembert; a brother, Frank Knapp of Warren; two sisters, Ruby L. Van Ord and Priscilla Lohnes, both of Warren; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. Funeral services will be held in Russell, Pa. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, at Pisgah Baptist Church. Willie M. Woods, widower of Olivia Melton Woods, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born April 1, 1920, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Edmond Woods and Carrie Smith Woods. Mr. Woods attended Lee County public schools and was a retired farmer. He was an active member of Galilee Baptist Church in Mayesville, where he served on the trustee board until his health failed. Survivors include eight sons, Bobby Woods, Levi Woods, Harry Lee Woods, Alexander Woods and Jessie Woods, all of Sumter, Herbert Woods of Jersey City, N.J., and Johnnie Woods and Covell Woods, both of Mayesville; five daughters, Ruth McKnight of Columbia, Ruby Green of San Diego, Calif., Rosa Mae Woods of Philadelphia, Pa., and Shirley Woods and Annette Woods, both of Mayesville; two brothers, E.W. Woods and Ned Woods, both of Columbia; a sister, Isabel Graham of Loris; 54 grandchildren; 80 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two infant sons and two daughters, Maxine Woods and Everlina Bolden. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Galilee Baptist Church in Mayesville with the Rev. Eugene Myers, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mayesville City Cemetery in Mayesville. Nephews will be pallbearers, and nieces will be flower bearers. SUMMERTON — Early “Duke” Wilder, 32, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia. Born July 27, 1968, in Summerton, he was a son of Friendly Wilder and the late Lillian Gertrude Rhames Wilder. The family will receive friends at the home of his grandmother, Malvenia Jones Rhames of P.O. Box 1070, 11 First St., Summerton. Funeral services will be announced by Dyson’s Home for Funerals.

BEN HAILE

Ben Haile, 87, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, after a long illness, at Covenant Place in Sumter. Born in Union, he was a son of William Jackson Haile and Estelle Littlejohn Haile of Union. Mr. Haile was active in the Sumter business community for over 40 years, founding and serving as President and owner of Southern Discount Company. An active member for many years of the Lions Club and Executive Club, Mr. Haile’s primary focus was his church. He served as a deacon at the First Presbyterian Church, and a founding elder and, at the time of his death, as an Elder Emeritus at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Mr. Haile was a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a B.S. in Business Administration. He is survived by his wife, Anne Elise Aveson Haile; two sons and daughters-in-law, William B. and Virginia F. Haile of Savannah, Ga., and Dr. Robert W. and Sandra T. Haile of Charleston; a daughter and son-in-law, Elise “Lisa” Haile Svetlik and Michael J. Svetlik of Sumter; as well as nine grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Sumter. The Rev. F.R. McAlister, nephew of Mr. Haile, and the Rev. John R. Ropp Jr., a former minister of the church, will officiate. Internment will be in Sumter Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael H. Svetlik, B. Tripp McElveen, Trevor D. Housley, Robert W. Haile Jr., Robert T. Haile and W. Fitzhugh Haile. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the elders of Westminster Presbyterian Church. DORA H. CONYERS

MANNING — Dora Hilton Conyers, widow of Dell Conyers Sr., died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born Feb. 28, 1928, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Henry Hilton and Beulah Thames Hilton. Mrs. Conyers attended Clarendon County public schools. She was a member of Mount Zero Baptist Church during her youth and attended Mount Calvary Holiness Church and Church of God by Faith. Survivors include five sons, Ulysses Conyers of Columbia, Dell Conyers Jr. and Randall Conyers, both of Manning, Willie Roy Conyers of Davis Station and Roland Conyers of Charleston; two daughters, Carrie Doughty of Columbia and Diane Myers of Manning; a brother, the Rev. W.G. Hilton of Baltimore, Md; two sisters, Luella McCray of Manning and Lizzie Prince of Sumter; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers, three sisters and three children. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Saint John Baptist Church in Silver, with Elder Thomas Davis and the Rev. C. Richburg officiating and Elders C. McBride, J. Lucas and E.P. Livingston assisting. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home, Route 2, Box 200, in the Wilson community of Manning. Fleming DeLaine Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.

BIRDIE LAWSON

COLUMBIA — Birdie Lawson died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital. Born Aug. 28, 1952, in Lee County, he was a son of Carrie Cooks Lawson and the late Moses Lawson Sr. Mr. Lawson attended Lee County public schools and was employed by Shaw Components and the city of Sumter. He attended several churches. Survivors include a brother, Moses Lawson Jr. of Washington, D.C.; seven sisters, Almena Woods of Mayesville and Ada Mae Hall, Elizabeth Sharper, Betty Jean Lawson, Elouise Lawson, Margurite Sumter and Patricia Lawson, all of Sumter. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph Lawson, James Henry Lawson and Louis Lawson; his grandparents, Alma Cooks, Joe Cooks, Hester Lawson and Gus Lawson. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Gallilee Baptist Church in Mayesville with the Rev. Eugene Myers officiating and the Revs. Theron D. Smith and Eliza E. Black assisting. Burial will be in Mayesville City Cemetery. Pallbearers and floral bearers will family and friends. The funeral procession will leave at 1:15 p.m. from the home, 3690 Britton Brogdon Road. The family will receive friends at the home. The casket will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Williams Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of funeral arrangements.

MARSHALL BRAILSFORD

BISHOPVILLE — Marshall Brailsford, husband of Shirley Sumpter Brailsford, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, in Brooklyn, N.Y. Mr. Brailsford was born in Woodrow. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Olive AME Church with the Rev. T.A. Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Copeland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of his brother, 2195 Rembert Church Road. Boatwright Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

IVE BRUNSON SR.

Ive Brunson Sr., 90, widower of Elise Nelson Brunson, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at his home. Born Sept. 19, 1910, in Sumter County, he was a father of two sons, Ive Brunson Jr. and Jerome Brunson; and a daughter, Florence Luster. The family will receive friends at the home, 281 Gamble St. Services will be announced by Palmer Memorial Chapel Inc.

VICTORIA B. DOUGHTY

SUMMERTON — Victoria Bowman Doughty, 88, widow of William “Boy” Doughty, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at her home after an extended illness. Born April 5, 1912, in the Davis Station community of Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late John Bowman and Binkie Stukes Bowman. She was the mother of and mother-in-law of Lillie Madison and Tresvelt “Brother” Madison and grandmother of Arnold Madison. The family will receive friends at her home, Route 3, Box 1085, House Road, Summerton. Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home in Manning.

HANNAH J. FLEMING

LAKE CITY — Hannah Jane Fleming of 369 Lincoln Ave., 87, widow of Elder Fleming, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at Carolinas Hospital System in Lake City after an extended illness. She was a daughter of the late John and Mattie Cameron Barr.
The family will receive friends at the home, 369 Lincoln Ave.
Services will be announced by Greater St. James AME Church and Green’s Funeral Home.

RAY A. MITCHELL

MANNING — Ray Anthony “The King” Mitchell, 17, died Monday morning, Dec. 25, 2000, at the home of his parents. Born Oct. 8, 1983, on Old Silver Road, Manning, in Clarendon County, he was a son of Allen “Pick” Mitchell and Gwendolyn Ellison Mitchell and the grandson of Deacon Ray O’halion Jackson, Jessie Mae Mitchell and the late Sammie Mitchell. The family will receive friends at the home of his parents, Route 5, Box 787, Old Silver Road, Manning. Services will be announced by Summerton Funeral Service in Summerton.

LOU E. PELLMAN

Lou Ethel Pellman died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Rash and Mary Jones.
The family will receive friends at the home, 808 W. Bartlette St.
Services will be announced by Scriven Funeral Home.

MARTHA STACK

Martha Stack died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at Bishop Gadsden Center in James Island.
Services will be announced by Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home.

BENNY C. ANDREWS

Benny C. Andrews, 72, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at a local nursing center. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Joseph Edward Andrews and Mary Viola Barkley Andrews. He was a disabled U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Decorations and awards received during his time in service include the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal with three bronze stars, the Combat Engineers Badge, the United Nations Service Ribbon, the Vietnamese Service Ribbon with three bronze service stars, the Bronze Star with first oak leaf cluster and “v” device, the Combat Infantry Badge and the Purple Heart. He was also a retired real estate agent with Andrews Real Estate Inc. Survivors include three brothers, William L. Andrews of Columbia, James R. Andrews of Lexington and Paul L. Andrews of Sumter; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, J.E. “Sammy” Andrews and J.H. Andrews; and a sister, Rudy Grumble. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. today in Sumter Cemetery with the Rev. Mark Bordeaux officiating. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the VFW Post 3034, the Sumter Elks Lodge, BPOE No. 855, the American Legion Post No. 15, the Disabled American Veterans No. 5, the American Veterans Post No. 80, the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the 26th Infantry Regiment. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:30 p.m. today at Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of his niece, Roberta Barwick, 2670 Carriage Drive. Memorials may be made to the Westside Baptist Church Building Fund. Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
