Funeral services for Gordon Vernon Mundy, Sr., 81, of Williston will be held two p.m., Sunday, July 10 2011 graveside, at the First Baptist Church of Windsor cemetery. The family will receive friends from six to eight p.m., Saturday, July 9th at Folk Funeral Home, Williston, SC. Memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church of Windsor, Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 238, Windsor, SC 29856. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department and other department members. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Anchor Rehab and Health for the care during his illness. Mr. Mundy passed away Thursday, July 7, 2011.

Born in Aiken County, he was a son of the late Richard Fabian Mundy and Louise Beck Mundy. He was a graduate of Windsor High School. He worked for Graniteville Company, E.I. DuPont, taught welding at the Aiken Career Center, taught Industrial Art at Jackson High School, was a reserved officer for the Aiken County Sherriff’s Department, served on the Aiken County School Board, and was a member of the Woodmen of the World. Mr. Mundy owned and operated Mundy’s Marine and was a mechanic. He was a member and loved the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department, was a founding commissioner and was proud to have been a part of the building and getting the department established, this was a dream come true.

Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Thelma Bates Mundy; daughters Sherry M. Green of Williston, Janis (Dale) Boothe of Aiken; sons, Gordon V. (Mary Alice) Mundy, Jr., Ricky Mundy; sister, Peggy Mundy, all of Williston; grandchildren, Shanon Boothe, Michelle Johnson, David Boothe, Melody Mathias, Amanda Sadler; numerous great grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, and his faithful dog, Remus. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Richard (Rick) Green.

Carol Renew Cutrer

A memorial service for Carol Renew Young Palmer Cutrer, 65, formerly of Charleston, will be held three p.m., Sunday, July 10th, 2011 at Long Branch Baptist Church, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be sent to Long Branch Baptist Church, 3223 Highway # 37, Williston, SC 29853. Carol passed away July 5, 2011 in Picayune, Mississippi.

Born in Charleston, SC, she was a daughter of the late Wilton George Renew and Annie Lucille Grubbs Renew Veno. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Cutrer; daughters, Juanita Young, Michelle Young, Lara Carver; sons, Gregg Young, Robert Palmer; sisters, Judy Plummer, Betty Burge; brother, Wilton Joel Renew and five grandchildren.

Bill Cato

William Terrell “Bill” Cato, 86, of Windsor passed away Monday, June 27, 2011 at his residence. No formal services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Hen House Ministries, Scholarship Fund, 1556 Whetstone Road, Swansea, SC 29160.

Born in Stapleton, GA he was a son of the late Jarrett Cato and Ada Terrell Cato. Mr. Cato was a quarter master in the US Navy during WWII. He was a member of Windsor First Baptist Church and enjoyed going to the Hen House Ministries in Swansea with his wife. He was a Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite. He received a BA in Business Administration from Emory University and retired as a salesman from General Ribbon.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Lamb Cato of the home; sons, William (Nancy) Collier Cato of Gainesville, GA, Jared Lamb Cato of Windsor; grandson, William Rhett Cato of Barnwell; and a number of nieces. He was predeceased by one sister and three brothers.

Lawton Chance

Funeral services for Lawton Chance, 70, of Barnwell, SC will be held eleven a.m., Friday, June 24th at Mt. Lebanon Christian Church in Barnwell. Burial will be in the Springfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends from six to eight p.m., Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Folk Funeral Home, Williston. Lawton passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2011.

Born in Berkley County, SC he was a son of the late James and Marie Chance. He was a member of Mt. Lebanon Christian Church in Barnwell and formerly owned and operated Springfield Tire.

Survivors include his wife of the home, Beverly G. Chance; sons, Dean (Holly) Gaskins of Fort Mill, SC, Gene (Corinne) Gaskins of Binghamton, NY, Tommy (Susie) Chance of St. Stephens, SC; daughters, Arlene (Martin) Still of Olar, SC, Melissa (Mark) Gainey of Barnwell, SC, Darlene Gaskins of Bonneau, SC, Sherry (Charles) Fortenberry of Hartsville, SC, Patty (Gerald) Cooper of Andrews, SC, Cindy (Trent) Ackerman of Shulerville, SC; brothers, Willard (Dorothy) Chance of Alabama, Bobby (Brenda) Chance of St. Stephens, SC, Woodrow (Belma) Chance of Andrews, SC, Leonard (Bonnie) Chance of Alabama, Monroe (Nell) Chance of Alabama; sister, Edith Caddell of Bonneau, 18 grandchildren, 15, great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and his dog, Tinker Chance. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Chance and Patsy Varnadore.

Roy Givens

Funeral services for Lonnie Leroy “Roy” Givens, 69, of the Long Branch Community, will be held two p.m., Friday, June 24, 2011 at the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, SC with burial in the Williston Cemetery. The family will receive friends from six to eight p.m., Thursday, June 23rd at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Williston Cemetery, P.O. Box 367, Williston, SC 29853. Surrounded by his family, Roy departed this life and went on to be with the Lord, Monday, June 20, 2011.

Born in Jasper County, SC, March 19, 1942, Roy was a son of Lonnie Monroe and Kathleen Carroll Givens. He was self-employed, having owned and operated Roy’s Place. Roy loved people. He loved to talk to share stories and to lift people’s spirits with countless jokes and pranks. He probably enjoyed the many conversations with people who stopped by his store much more than any of the profits he ever made. Roy was a faithful member of Edisto Baptist Church and shared his testimony at many churches in the Barnwell County area. Anyone who knew Roy knew he loved the Lord and knew he would freely share his testimony with anyone, anywhere, anytime. Roy will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Shatzie Givens; step-son, Timmy Jowers; brother, Ted Givens. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Horne Givens of the home; brothers, Tim (Diane) Givens of the Long Branch Community, Jeff (JoAnn) of Bamberg, SC; sister-in-law, Shelby Jean Givens of Batesburg; two step-grandchildren, Timmy and Anthony Jowers of Barnwell and a multitude of nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service for Charles Kenneth Kelly, Sr., 83, who passed away surrounded by his loving wife and family on Monday, June 20, 2011 at his home in Barnwell, SC will be held three p.m., Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Calvary Baptist Church in Barnwell. Memorials may be sent to Southern Care Hospice, 35 Varden Drive, Suite A., Aiken, SC 29803.

Born in Frederick, Maryland he was a son of the late Rodney Russell Kelly and Lucille Estelle Stup Kelly. He attended the United Methodist Church, was a member of Future Farmers of America and was a heavy equipment operator.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine Remsberg Kelly of the home; daughters, Sandra K. (Paul) Rowland Binotto of Augusta, West Virginia, Teresa Diane (Daniel) Cooper of Lovettsville, Virginia, Sherry E. Hutson of Barnwell, Kimberly L. (Romulo) Quezada of Martinsburg, West Virginia; son, Ronald E. (Sheila) Kelly of Barnwell; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Kelly of Ranson, West Virginia; grandchildren, Michael L. Rowland, Wesley S. Rowland, Angie Combs, Dennis E. Ott, Jr., Christina DeLawder, Lisa Keefer, Brian Kelly, Jessica Owens, Michelle Kelly, Andy Quezada, Tiffany Quezada; eight great grandchildren; sister, Nancy Ranneberger; brother, Rodney R. (Rudy) Kelly. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Kelly Jr., sons-in-law, Gary Hutson and Terry Rowland.

Funeral services for Shirley Gunnells Johnson, 57, of Williston, SC will be held eleven a.m., Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston with the Rev. Ken Dodson officiating. Burial will be in the George’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Barnwell, SC. The family will receive friends from six to eight p.m., Tuesday, June 21st at the funeral home. Shirley passed away Sunday, June 19, 2011.

Born in Olar, SC she was a daughter of the late Randolph Dawson Gunnells, Sr. and Ruby Higgs Gunnells. All of her life, she worked as a floral designer having worked for Nix Florist in Hampton, Debra’s Floral Designs and Carol’s Florist in Barnwell. She was a member of George’s Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include sisters, Carolyn (David) Jowers of Williston, Peggy (Keith) Phillips of Neeses; brothers, Laurie (Nancy) Gunnells of Lakeland, FL, Joe Gunnells of Williston, Melvin (Betty) Gunnells of North, Claude (Sandy) Gunnells of Cope; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William (Billy) Johnson; sisters, Elizabeth Slater and Marilyn Shealy; brothers, Dawson Gunnells and Vernon Gunnells.

Julius "Jay" Victor Crider, Jr

Funeral services for Julius “Jay” Victor Crider, Jr., 65, of Williston will be held eleven a.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at the Elko Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Baker officiating. Burial will be in The Williston Cemetery. The family will receive friends from six to eight p.m., Monday, June 20th at Folk Funeral Home in Williston. Memorials may be sent to Williston Branch Library, P.O. Box 482, Williston, SC 29853. Jay passed away Saturday, June 18, 2011.

Born at home in Denmark, SC he was a son of Blanche Bessinger Crider and the late Julius Victor Crider, Sr. He was a 1965 graduate of Orangeburg High School, attended Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College and served in the SC National Guard. He retired having worked for Greenwood Mills and Savannah River Site. He was a former member of Northgate Baptist Church in Orangeburg where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and Youth leader. Jay was a member of Elko Baptist Church for the past 17 years. He enjoyed wood working and gardening.

Survivors include his mother of Williston; his wife, Jo Schumpert Crider of the home; daughter, Karen (Kevin) Webster of Williston; son, Brian (Ashley) Crider of Pine Hill, SC; grandchildren, Matthew Dutton Webster, Mackenzie Scott Webster, Mitchell Julius Webster, Julius Victor “Jake” Crider III, Nathan Joseph Crider and Joanna Kay Crider; sister, Jackie (Wayne) Schumpert of Elko; several nieces and nephews.

Walker J. "Jr." Grubbs

Funeral services for Walker J. “Jr.” Grubbs, 85, of Williston, SC will be held two p.m., Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Seven Pines Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Mew officiating. Burial will be in the Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery by the airport. The family will receive friends from six to eight p.m., Tuesday at Folk Funeral Home, Williston. Memorials may be made to Seven Pines Baptist Church 22 Seven Pines Road Snelling, SC 29812. Mr. Grubbs passed away Sunday, June 12, 2011.

Born in Barnwell County, he was a son of the late Frank and Sallie Gillam Grubbs. He was married to the late Katherine Buck Grubbs. He was owner/operator of the Village Inn and was a member of Seven Pines Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Johnny (Carey) Douglas of Jackson; grandchildren, Kassidy McKinney, Alexis McKinney, and Arabella Catherine Douglas; sister, Irene Padgett of Hampton; brothers, Charles (Betty Jean) Grubbs, Jake (Margaret) Grubbs, Leroy (Juanita) Grubbs, all of Snellings and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Franklin Grubbs; sisters, Anna Lou Kinard, Rose Marie Sanders and Elizabeth Sanders.

Funeral services for Jeanette Pender Hair, 61, of Barnwell, SC will be held ten a.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Calvary Baptist Church, 8744 Marlboro Ave. 29812, Barnwell, SC with Rev. Richard McWhite and Chaplin Joe Marquez, 173rd Airborne Brigade officiating. Burial will be at Barnwell County Memorial Park (by the airport). The family will receive friends from six to eight p.m. Tuesday June 14, 2011 at Folk Funeral Home, Williston. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church. Mrs. Hair passed away Monday, June 13, 2011. The family greatly appreciates the love, support and the exceptional care provided by the ICU nurses, staff, Dr. Stephen Metrapol, Dr. Sharon Wise and all who helped take care of her for the last 15 weeks at Baptist Hospital, Columbia, SC.

Born in Barnwell, SC, she was a daughter of the late Ernest Steen Pender and Julia Hammett Pender. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and assistant director at First-to-Learn Daycare in Williston. Jeanette loved her family and grandchildren; she always looked forward to spending time with them. She will be missed by all who loved her.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Chavis, Justin Chavis, Homer Hammett, Matt Hooper, Chip Nolind, Tony Owens, Jamie Padgett, Phil Padgett, Donnie Pender and Philip Quick.

Survivors include her husband, Eddie Hair of the home; daughter, Julie Hair (Joel) Stapleton; son, Joey Hair; grandchildren, Edie Laurel Stapleton, Olivia Annette Stapleton, Thames Harrison Stapleton all of Aiken; sisters, Peggy Owens, Patsy (Mervin) Fields; brother, Steen (Becky) Pender all of Barnwell and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Arnold Pender.

Funeral services for Mary Olive Stevenson Elkins, 94, of Healing Springs will be held three p.m., Friday, June 3, 2011 at Healing Springs Baptist Church with the Revs. David Grubbs and Mike Catoe officiating. The family will receive friends from six to eight p.m., Thursday, June 2nd at Folk Funeral Home, Williston. Active Pallbearers: Blake Anderson Elkins, Justin Allen Elkins, Cody Alexander Hutson, Todd Chandler O'Neal Hutson, Dillon Wayne Sease and Richard Austin Sease. Honorary Pallbearer: Tommy Anderson Elkins, Jr. Mrs. Elkins passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2011.

Born in Barnwell County, she was a daughter of the late George Washington Stevenson and Mary Rebecca Black Stevenson and was married to the late Freddie Anderson Elkins. She was a member of Healing Springs Baptist Church for more than 50 years. She was owner/operator of Elkins Grocery in Healing Springs, worked for Palm Beach Manufacturing Company and retired from Pac-a- Sac Convenience Store.

Survivors include daughters, Myrtle Faglier (Robert) Cheek of Barnwell, Elizabeth (Bill) Faulkner of Williston, Jeannette (Bob) Bomar of Williston; sons, Gene W. (Corine) Elkins of Hillsville, VA, Jimmy O. (Denise) Elkins of Williston; daughter-in-law, Mayblane Elkins of Thorsby, AL; brother, James W. Stevenson, Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, Janet Gail Johnson, Jerrie Lynn Lott, Mary Hope McMullen, William Sidney Faglier, Jr., Robin Jean Hubbard, Kristie Rebecca Hutson, Kimberly Rochelle Brock, Tommy Anderson Elkins, Katina Rose Beasley, Bryan Allen Elkins, Kenneth Elkins, Scott Elkins and Debbie Moore; 20 great grandchildren and 11 great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Freddie Allen Elkins; grandsons, Jimmy O. Elkins, Jr. and Bryan Ray; 8 sisters, and 6 brothers.
