Andre Arthur Brown, 36, died Saturday, November 3, 200, 7 in the Moncks Corner Medical Center.

Funeral services will be announced by the Carroll Mortuary of Bamberg.

Mrs. Lois B. Field

Mrs. Lois Ball Field, 82, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, at Longwood Plantation.

Funeral services will be announced by Dukes-Harley Funeral Home of Orangeburg.

Friends may call at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lillie Grace Aycock Wingard

Funeral services for Mrs. Lille Grace Aycock Wingard, 98, of The Oaks, 1000 Live Oaks Drive, formerly of Lone Star, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, in The Nancy Freeman Stringer Memorial Chapel at The Oaks, with the Rev. Kermit Shrawder and the Rev. Roger Goupil officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Grove Lutheran Church Cemetery in Lone Star.

The casket will be placed in the chapel one hour prior to the service, at which time the family will greet friends.

Pallbearers will be Bob Edwards, David Edwards, Hane Edwards, Thomas Edwards, Denman Isgett and Julian Wiles.

Mrs. Wingard died Oct. 12.

Memorials may be made to The Oaks or to a charity of one's choice.

Dukes-Harley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jervey Blacks

Jervey Blacks, of 1048 Rodney Road, Orangeburg, died Monday, March 10, 2008, at Trident Medical Center in Charleston.

Funeral services will be announced by Al Jenkins Funeral Home of Orangeburg.

Friends may call at the residence and at the funeral home.

Linda Wise

Linda Wise, 57, of 1043 Locust St., Denmark, died Monday, March 10, 2008, in the Bamberg County Hospital.

Funeral services will be announced by the Carroll Mortuary Denmark Chapel.

Friends may call at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy and Annie Wroten, 449 Laurel St., Denmark.

Mrs. Omega Mount Cumbee

Funeral services for Mrs. Omega Mount Cumbee will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2008, in the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg, with burial in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Orangeburg.

Memorials may be made to Rivelon Baptist Church, 395 Rivelon Road, Orangeburg, SC 29115.

Mary Mann Slack

Graveside services for Mary Mann Slack, 64, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2008, in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Orangeburg.

Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 14, at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home in Orangeburg.

Mrs. Slack died peacefully at home, Monday, March 10.

She was a native of Orangeburg. She graduated from Orangeburg High School and received her Associates Degree from Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, Va. She was a loving grandmother, mother, wife, sister, and friend. Mary deeply cherished her time with all her colorful Orangeburg family and friends. She was loved by many for all her generosity and gracious gestures and was dedicated to letting those around her know how much she loved them.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Coke Mann Jr. and Clifton Redmon Mann and by her brother, Clifton Redmon and sister, Martha Grace.

She is survived by her brother, Edward Coke Mann III and his wife, Eugenia Cox Mann of Columbia; half sister, Melinda Mann Bussey and her husband, Tom Bussey of John's Island; daughter, Clifton Slack Cartwright and son-in-law, Robert Cartwright of San Francisco; son, Stephen Holston Slack Jr.; daughter-in-law, Cristin Signom Slack; grandson, Stephen Holston Slack III and granddaughter, Embre Anne Slack of Mount Pleasant and former husband, Stephen Holston Slack of Bristol, Tenn.

Dukes-Harley Funeral Home of Orangeburg is in charge of arrangements.

William ‘Moot’ Nimmons, DENMARK

Funeral services for William “Moot” Williams, 88, of 476 South Locust Ave., Denmark, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 2007, at Honey Ford Baptist Church, Denmark. Masonic Rites and burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Nimmons died Sunday, Jan. 21, at Palmetto Health Baptist Hospital in Columbia.

He was born Feb. 20, 1918, in Bamberg County to the late Robert and Mary Zorn-Nimmons. At an early age he united with Honey Ford Baptist Church, where he served faithfully on the Usher Board, Trustee Board and Men’s Club for more than 50 years. He was employed for a number of years with Coca-Cola Bottling Company and Ray’s Farms. Moot, as he was known to his many friends, married the former Albertha Hicks. He was a member of Rufus Jones Masonic Lodge No. 615, Denmark.

Survivors include his loving wife, Albertha Hicks-Nimmons of the home; a daughter, Beverly Whetstone of Denmark; a son, Anthony Nimmons of Denmark; adopted daughter/granddaughter, Sharmon McMichael of Orangeburg; a granddaughter, Adrain Denise Walls of Temple Hills, Md.; four grandsons, Juan Butch Nimmons of Ridgeville, Reginald L. Whetstone and Antara and Devonta Nimmons, all of Denmark; four great-granddaughters, Tawanda Nimmons of Denmark, Aavione and Amber Walls of Temple Hills, Md., and Sharnise McMichael of Orangeburg; one great-grandson, De’ll McMichael of Trion, Ga.; two brothers, George Nimmons of Springfield, Ill., and Going Roundtree of Denmark; four sisters, Ruth Limehouse of Denmark, Mary Clanton of Jamaica, N.Y., Callie Toney of Denmark and Ethelean Jones of Orangeburg; and Latonya Tyler Freeman of Columbia, who was reared as a granddaughter.

The family will greet friends in the fellowship hall of the church after the burial.

Friends may call at the residence of his wife, Albertha Hicks-Nimmons, 476 South Locust Ave., Denmark.

The Denmark Chapel of Carroll Mortuary is in charge of the services.

William Lee Wetzel, BAMBERG

Mr. William Lee Wetzel, 78, of Bamberg, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at First Baptist Church of Bamberg. Burial will be in South End Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ray Thomas, Buddy Sandifer, Kendall McCormack, Randy Chavis, Scottie Sandifer, Jim Tobul, Emil Schmitt-Weaver and Sean Tobul.

Mr. Wetzel was born Dec. 11, 1928, in Middletown, Ohio, a son of the late Marion Lee and Lucy Sample Wetzel.

He was employed as a YMCA director in Middletown and Piqua, Ohio and Morgantown, W.Va. He served on the city council in Morgantown from 1964 to 1967. He changed careers and became active in the mining industry and was employed by Consolidated Coal Company and retired as vice president of Zapata Coal Corporation.

After retiring to South Carolina, he became active in the economic development of small rural counties in South Carolina. He served as Executive Director for Economic Development for Allendale, Hampton and Bamberg counties. He served on the Board of Directors and as secretary to the Board of the South Carolina Economic Developers Association for more than ten years.

His hobbies included flying, fishing and amateur radios. He became a private pilot at the age of 16. His love for aviation continued throughout his life and he enjoyed flying and restoring World War II aircraft. He journeyed to the National Aeronautics Museum in the summer of 2006 to the Aviation Museum at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio, to donate articles of his father’s World War I memorabilia. He enjoyed fishing and collecting antique lures. He was a charter member of the National Fishing Lure Collectors Club. Mr. Wetzel was an avid amateur radio operator for more than 50 years with the call letters of W8TTU and W4OXA. He was a World War II veteran and served in Central America for three years. Mr. Wetzel was a member of First Baptist Church of Bamberg.

He was a graduate of Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, and Springfield College, Springfield, Mass. He married Betty Sandifer in Columbia on June 25, 1949. His parents and a sister, Olive Wetzel Canady of Pierre, S.D., predeceased him.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Betty Wetzel of Bamberg; a son, William M. “Bill” and daughter-in-law, Becky McKinnon Wetzel of Pageland; a daughter, Gayle A. and son-in-law, Dennis J. Weaver of Boise, Idaho; granddaughter, Brandi and husband, Emil Schmitt-Weaver of Selkirk, N.Y.; a brother-in-law, Dayton Canady of Pierre, S.D.; nieces and nephews; and special friends, Jim Tobul, Sean Tobul, Ray Thomas and Randy Chavis.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, at Mercer Funeral Home in Denmark.
