TIFFANY BISHOP

Funeral services for Tiffany Bishop, 21, were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Cline and the Rev. Reginald McLeod Sr. officiating. Burial was in Centerville A.M.E. Church Cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Ms. Bishop died Thursday, Aug. 8. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of Dennis and Valerie William Bishop. She was a graduate of Hartsville High School, class of 1998. She attended Kay Branch Missionary Baptist Church and was employed with Winn Dixie grocery store.

Surviving other than her father and mother, both of Hartsville, are two children, Ju'Quesha Bishop and TyQuise Bishop, both of Hartsville; two brothers, Collins (Shanell) Bishop Sr. and Dennis Bishop Jr., both of Hartsville; a sister, TreSheena Evans; adopted sisters, Tasha McLeod and Shanta Robinson, both of Hartsville; paternal grandmother, Dorothy S. Bishop; two aunts, Dorothy Bishop and Deborah (Keith) Evans, all of Hartsville; three uncles, Travis Bishop of San Antonio, Texas , Bernard Williams of Flushing, N.Y., and Jarret Williams of McBee; two nieces, Brittany Bishop and Bridgett Bishop, both of Hartsville; one nephew, Collins Bishop Jr. of Hartsville; a close friend, Renodda Dixon of Charlotte, N.C.; and many great aunts and uncles, cousins, neighbors, co–workers and friends.

BUDDY FENNELL

DARLINGTON — Graveside funeral services for Marion “Buddy” Junior Fennell, 47, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, in Matthews Cemetery, New Hope, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mr. Fennell died Friday, Aug. 9, in a Florence hospital. He was born in Florence County, son of the late George Charlie and Pauline Matthews Fennell. He served his country in the United States Army and was a carpenter. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Florence.

Surviving are his wife, Sarah Johnson Fennell of Darlington; one son, Johnny Allen Poston; one daughter, Paula Elizabeth Fennell, both of Darlington; two step–sons, Roy Allen Streett of Timmonsville and Matthew Scott Streett of Florence; two step–daughters, Sarah Renee Poston of Mississippi and Wanda Lynn Streett of Florence; three grandchildren; a brother, Ralph Wayne Fennell of Darlington; four sisters, LaRue E. Rogers, Judy Perkins, Faye McKnight and Wanda Ransom, all of Darlington.

TERRY SPRINGS

DARLINGTON — Funeral services for William Terry Springs, 29, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Aug. 14, 2002, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment following in Grove Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Springs died Saturday, Aug. 10. He was born in Florence County, a son of Yancey Springs and Joanne Watson Springs Harrington. He was a sheet metal worker.

Surviving in addition to his mother of Darlington and father of Florence are his step–father, George Harrington of Darlington; step–mother, Gail Springs of Florence; daughter, Jade Springs of Florence; sister, Angela Springs of Darlington; step–sister, Crystal Springs and step–brother, Jonathan Springs, both of Florence.

PETER BACHUS

Funeral services for Peter Bachus were held at 3 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with burial in the church Cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home.

Mr. Bachus died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at Morrell Memorial Convalescent Center after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Walter and Martha Bachus. He was educated in the Darlington County public school and was married to the late Rosa Lee Myers for 65 years. He was employed with Sonoco Products Co. for 35 years until his retirement in 1976. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and actively participated in many ministries, serving as chairman emeritus of the Deacon Board, past superintendent of the Sunday School, past president of Usher Board, chairman of Willing Workers, Missionary Organization and member of Choir No. 2.

Survivors are four daughters, Mazaree Gillespie, Stella Carmichael, Dorothy Overton and Patrinola Horton; two sons, Eddie Bachus and Lee Bachus; two sisters, Helen James and Edna Ramsey; a brother, Elder Preston Bachus; a sister–in–law, Charlotte Lewis Higgs; 15 grandchildren; sons–in–law, Clarkie Carmichael and Lionel Overton. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Rosa; sons, Walter Bachus and Peter Jr.

JACK C. LANGSTON

SUMMERVILLE — Funeral services for Lt. Col. Jack Carpenter Langston, USAF (Ret.) 68, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at Bethany Untied Methodist Church, Summerville. Burial, with full military honors was held in Magnolia Cemetery in Charleston, directed by James A. Dyal Funeral Home of Summerville.

Mr. Langston, husband of Annie–Jane Kelley Langston, died Friday morning, Aug. 9, in Bon–Secours St. Francis Hospital of Charleston. He was born Jan. 3, 1934, in Florence, a son of the late Carroll E. Langston and Thelma Carpenter Langston. He grew up in Hartsville, and graduated with honors from Clemson College in 1956 with a bachelor of science degree in entomology. He was also a graduate of the University of North Dakota receiving a master's degree in public administration. He was a United States Air Force veteran, having served in Europe, Korea and Vietnam. Lt. Col. Langston served as an air traffic controller, a command pilot, forward air controller, and strategic missile launch officer. He was a member of Summerville Rotary Club, Coastal Carolina Executive Council of Boy Scouts of America, advisory board for the Salvation Army, charter member of the Dadaelians: Swamp Fox Chapter, American War Orphans Networks, and was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels of Summerville. He was a life member of the National Eagle Scout Association and received the Silver Beaver award in 2001. He was an active member of Bethany United Methodist Church. He retired from Dorchester County in 1999 having served 71/2 years as county administrator.

Surviving are his wife of Summerville; son, SFC John “Jack” and his wife SFC Gerri Lynn Langston of Ft. Benning, Ga.; daughters, Sally–Ann and husband, John Warren of Mt. Pleasant; Madgeleine and husband, LTC Stephen Wilkins of Ft. Campbell, Ky.; Elizabeth and husband, Dr. Timothy Jones of Charleston; grandchildren, Andrew and Claire Margaret Wilkins of Ft. Campbell, Ky., Grayson, Carson and Langston Jones of Charleston, Parker and Annie–Jane Warren of Mt. Pleasant; a brother, Jerry W. Langston of Florence; and a sister, Claire Marchand of Battle Ground, Wash.

BILLY E. WALTERS

Funeral services for Billy Eugene Walters, 56, will be held today, Aug. 14, 2002, at 4 p.m. at the chapel of Norton Funeral Home. The Rev. Randy Jackson, Pat Kissiah and Frank Murray will officiate with burial in the New Market Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Walters was born in Scotland County, N.C., a son of the late Daniel Thomas and Thelma Taylor Walters. He was a member of Praise The Lord Ministry Church, retired from Daniels Construction Co., was affiliated with the Northern League Dixie Youth Baseball for 21 years, a member of the Lake Robinson Rescue Squad and was a volunteer at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center.

Surviving are his wife, Judy Rogers Walters of Hartsville; daughters and son–in–law, Jennifer and Robby Baker and Janice Allen, all of Hartsville; three brothers, James Walters of Gastonia, N.C., Marcus Walters of Lauringburg, N.C., and Robert Walters of Laurel Hill, N.C.; two sisters, Carol Strickland of Garner, N.C. and Wanda Norton of Laurel Hill, N.C.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Junior and Dalton Walters, and a sister, Mary Watts.

INEZ S. BROWN

DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Inez S. Brown, 94, will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at Shiloh Seventh Day Adventist Church in Charleston. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with local arrangements by Mitchell–Josey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Brown died Monday, Aug. 12, in a Hartsville hospital after a prolonged illness. She was born in Charleston, the oldest child of John M. and Rachel Rivers Brown and was predeceased by a sister, Thelma Mouzon, and a brother, Harvey W. Brown. She was a retired educator in the Charleston District 20 School system.

Survivors include her siblings: Viola (Palmer) Martin of Darlington, John (Patricia) Brown of Charleston, Helen Williams of Gaithersburg, Md., Julie (Clinton) Mattingly and Wilbur (Corrine) Brown, both of Washington , D.C., and Gloria Mouzon of Lanham, Md.; many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

JEROLD JAMES SR.

Funeral services for Jerold Dee James Sr., 59, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002, at the chapel of Norton Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Gainey officiating. Burial was in the Rivers of Living Water Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. James died Aug. 13, 2002. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Jerry and Myrtle Weatherford James.

Surviving are his wife, Valerie Brown James of Hartsville; three sons, Harvey and Gerald James of Hartsville and William P. James of Darlington; a daughter, Vivian Tyner of Hartsville; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Dylan James.
