COLLINS FRAZIER

Collins Frazier, 66, died Tuesday at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home of Hartsville.

ANN LEWIS

Funeral services for Ann Chapman Lewis, 85, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002, at the Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Driskill officiating. Burial followed in Magnolia Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Corner Stone Baptist Church.

Mrs. Lewis, widow of Thomas R. Lewis, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late William Charles and Lenora Belch Chapman. She was a member of Corner Stone Baptist Church. The family would like to express a special thanks to the Trauma Center and 3rd Floor East McLeod Regional Medical Center.

Surviving are her sister, Willie C. Ghoens of Hartsville; granddaughter, Lisa Allenczy of Florence; several nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her daughter Ivey Sue Lewis.

MAGGIE GRIGGS

Graveside services for Maggie Horne Griggs, 79, were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, at Damascus Cemetery with the Rev. Harold Collin officiating, directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Griggs died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Jim and Daisey Odom Horne.

Surviving are her sons, Paul Jones Harrell of Clover, Walter Griggs Jr. of Hartsville, Jack Benny Griggs of Rutherfordton, N.C., Marion George Griggs of Hartsville; daughter, Maggie Marie Chapman of Hoboken, Ga.; sisters, Nezzie Horne Hall of Darlington, Pauline Griggs of Cheraw, and Ila Mae Hewitt of Darlington.

BILL MIMS

Graveside services for William C. “Bill” Mims, 78, will be held at 4 p.m. today, Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, in Magnolia Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Tim Tomlinson. Memorials may be made to McLeod Hospice of the Pee Dee, 555 East Cheves Street, Florence, SC 28506 or to a charity of one's choice.

Mr. Mims died Wednesday, August 14, 2002. Born in Camden, he was a son of the late Hobson Dewey and Ruth Morton Mims. An avid sportsman and fisherman, his love was baseball. He played second base with the Philadelphia A's. In the Palmetto League, he played with the Camden Chiefs and Sonoco Products Co. He retired with Sonoco Products Co. after 43 years where he enjoyed much of his life in the Millwright Shop. He was a member of the Sonoco Old Timers Club.

Surviving are his wife, of 53 years, Emma Cook Mims; daughters and sons–in–law, Phyllis M. Sutherlin of Hartsville, Jeri M. and Ritter Honeycutt of Shallotte, N.C., Rock Horne, of Hixson, Tenn.; grandchildren, Alan and Kristy Horne of Hixson, Tenn., Beau and Blake Sutherlin of Hartsville, Lawes Honeycutt of Shallotte, N.C.; sisters and brothers–in–law, Joan and Cliff Rollins, Bobby and Buddy Graham, all of Camden. A daughter, Billye M. Horne, preceded him in death.

EVELYN S. TOLBERT

Funeral services for Evelyn Spires Tolbert, 62, were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002, at Emmanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Milton G. Frazier officiating. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Tolbert died Monday, Aug. 12. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Jessie and Dessie Windham Spires. She was a graduate of Hartsville High School, a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and the Christian Ladies Fellowship Class.

Surviving are three daughters, Janet (Scott) Watts of Florence, Lisa (David) Gardner of Hartsville and Tracy (Randy) Williams of Hemingway; a sister, Lynn Newsome of Hartsville; a brother, Heyward Spires of Sumter; five grandchildren, Caleb and Anna Watts, Brandon Gardner and Jimmy and Olivia Williams; and a host of nieces and nephews who will miss her.

She was preceded in death by one previous granddaughter, Emily Gardner; two sisters, Bobbie Vines and Billie Hemingway, and a brother, Cecil Spires.

Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 949 North Marquis Highway, Hartsville, SC 29550.

CARSON J. GORDON

Funeral services for Carson Johnson Gordon, 90, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Friday, Aug.. 16, 2002, from the Pisgah Baptist Church near Rembert, S.C., with the Rev. Gary Anderson and Dr. Donald West officiating. Burial will be in the church Cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home, Hartsville Chapel.

Mr. Gordon died Wednesday, Aug. 14. He was born in Lancaster county, a son of the late Doby and Sallie Gordon. He was a member of Pisgah Baptist Church, was retired from Civil Service and later worked at the Piggy Wiggly Food Store in Lugoff.

Survivors include a daughter, Esther Watkins of Hartsville; a son, Carson A. Gordon of Camden; five grandchildren; and six great–grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Kelleytown Baptist Church, 2609 Kelleytown Road, Hartsville, SC.

RUTH I. ABRAMS

Funeral services for Ruth Ingle Abrams, 89, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, at West Hartsville Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Tomlinson and the Rev. Paul Sullivan officiating. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Abrams, widow of Thomas J. Abrams, died Sunday, Aug. 18. She was born in Rutherford County, N.C., a daughter of the late Isaac and Ola Ingle. She was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughter and son–in–law, Frances and Ray Petty of Hartsville; grandchildren Amy Petty, Susan (Ervin) McElveen and Kerry (Steve) Parker, all of Hartsville, and Beth (Phillips) Long of Sumter; daughter–in–law, Irene Abrams of Buffalo; and eight great–grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Abrams.

Memorials may be made to the Buffalo Baptist Church, P.O. Box 428, Buffalo, SC 29321 or to West Hartsville Baptist Church, 1003 West Carolina Ave., Hartsville, S.C. 29550.

COLLINS FRAZIER

Funeral services for Collins Frazier, 66, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at Centerville A.M.E. Church with burial in the church Cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mr. Frazier died Tuesday, Aug. 13, in Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Terry Sr. and Marie Toney Frazier. He received his education in the public schools of Darlington County. He was a member of Centerville A.M.E. Church and was an Army veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Lula Blackmon Frazier of Hartsville; four daughters, Valerie (Garfield) Plummer, Wanda (Louis) Hamilton, Shelia (Robert) Thompson, all of New York City, and Janice (Gregory) Dickson of Hartsville; a son, Fred (Suzette) Blackmon of Hartsville; six grandchildren; four sisters, Edith Peters and Rebecca Bemoine of Chicago, Ill., Martha McCullough and Lillie Floyd of New York City; four brothers, Thomas Frazier, Terry Frazier Jr., Marion Frazier and Bernard Frazier, all of Hartsville.
