Vera F. Balchin
GREENWOOD — Vera Fleming Balchin, 86, of 301 Draper St., widow of James E. Balchin, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Elberton, Ga., she was a daughter of the late William and Eula Mae Fleming. She retired from Greenwood Mills Plant No. 5 and was of the Holiness faith.
Survivors include a son, James Clyde Balchin of Greenwood; a brother, Horace Fleming of Abbeville; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services are at 2:30 Sunday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. James Tollison. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are grandsons.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.

Larry David Coats
GREENVILLE — Larry David Coats, 32, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Pittsburgh, he was a son of Ruby Coats. He was a member of Lockhart Baptist Church, Saluda, and a 1988 Saluda High School graduate.
Survivors include his mother of Philadelphia, and maternal grandfather, J.B. “Peter” Coats of Saluda.
Services are at 2:30 Sunday at Lockhart Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Raymond Adams. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial is in the church cemetery.
The family is at the home of his grandfather, 436 Henley Road, Saluda.
Butler & Sons Funeral Home, Saluda, is in charge.

Blanche Dixon
GREENWOOD — Blanche Adams Dixon, 71, of 401 Dukes St., wife of Joe Thomas Dixon, died March 1, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Carlton County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Buford and Nell Crowe Adams. She graduated from Comer High School, Comer, Ga., retired from Sears Roebuck and Co. and was presently employed by Wal-Mart. She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church, Abbeville, the Willie Miller Sunday School Class of the church and the Number One Mothers Club of Greenwood.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a daughter, Gail D. Sartin of Greenwood; a son, Ronnie T. Dixon of Greenwood; three sisters, Sue Chandler and Shirley Chandler, both of Danielsville, Ga., and Hythen Coile of Ila, Ga.; two brothers, James Adams and Tillman Adams, both of Hull, Ga.; four granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.
Services are at 2 Sunday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. David Cobb. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Wiley Booth, Wilburn Dixon, John Dixon, Darryl Coile, Jim Chandler and Mike Cain.
Honorary escorts are members of the Men’s and Women’s Sunday School Class of Beulah Baptist Church, along with Dr. Giles Schanen and Dr. Ed Fowler.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.

Jack B. Horne
GREENWOOD — Jack B. Horne, 83, of 324 Ninety Six Highway, widower of Margaret Elizabeth Sweezy Horne, died Friday, March 1, 2002, at Wesley Commons Health Care Center.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late William “Bill” and Sally Wrenn Horne Horne. He retired from Greenwood Mills Mathews Plant, where he worked for 44 years and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He also worked as a paint contractor and was a member of Ninety Six Pentecostal Holiness Church and the Adult No. 5 Sunday School Class.
Survivors include three sons, Jack R. Horne of Greenwood, Gerald L. Horne of Ninety Six and David A. Horne of Pelzer; two daughters, Sherin H. Gonce of Greenwood and Pamela H. Fortner of Ninety Six; a sister, Myra Clem of Greenwood; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services are at 2 Sunday at Ninety Six Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by the Rev. Ben Edwards, the Rev. Hayes Riddle and Mr. Steve Brown. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are grandsons: Mark Young, Timmy Gonce, Brent Horne, Jonathan Rushton, Alvin Merritt, Dennis Addison, David Crawford and Chad Matthews.
Honorary escorts are the men and deacons of the church.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Harley Funeral Home.

Louise D. Jay
KEYSVILLE, Ga. — Louise Dorn Jay, of Satcher Boulevard, wife of the Rev. Marion L. Jay, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, in Keysville.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Patricia Milburn of Martinez; two sons, Gary Jay and David Jay, both of Augusta; four sisters, Mamie Sisk, Lena Dobbins and Margaret Davis, all of Greenwood, S.C., and Frances Worley of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; four brothers, James Dorn of Greenwood, Arthur Dorn of Summerville, S.C., Billy Dorn of Moncks Corner, S.C., and Wallace Dorn of Brandon, Fla.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services are 1 p.m. today at Hatcher Funeral Home, Augusta, conducted by the Rev. Jim Johnson. Burial is in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are Lee Jowers, Nicklos Jowers, Dwayne Jay, Wesley Jay, Charles Black, Tommy Worley and Ben Thompson.

Robert H. Nelson
LAURENS — Robert H. Nelson, 62, of 105 Kingston Drive, widower of Connie Fowler Nelson, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at Laurens County Hospital.
Born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late H. Clifton and Miriam Woods Nelson. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Laurens, NSRA and Dixie Vets. He was retired from the G.E. Laurens Plant.
Survivors include a daughter, Angie Nelson of the home; and a son, Robin Nelson of Simpsonville.
Graveside services are at 11 Monday, at Forest Lawn Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Eugene L. Curry.
Visitation is Sunday from 7-8:30 at Kennedy Mortuary.
The family is at the home.

GREENWOOD — Wallace Edward Aye, 67, of 102 Bell Circle, Bell Place Community, husband of Elizabeth Yelldell Aye, died Sunday, March 3, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Ninety Six, he was a son of the late Bennie Aye and the late Magelene Peterson Aye. He was a Construction worker. He was a member of Springfield Baptist Church in Edgefield.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sabrie (Rev. Ricky) Oliver of Greenwood; three sons, Willie (Delorise) Rapp, Melvin (Karen) Frazier and Sheldy (Pastor) Toni Aye of Greenwood and a sister, Mamie Siegler of Fort Hood, Texas ; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Parks Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Kenneth Blair
NINETY SIX — Kenneth Eric Blair, of 109 Leroy Drive, husband of Lorraine H. Blair, died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in McCormick County, he was a son of James Carroll Boozer and Janet Luchey Boozer. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School Class of 1971 and attended South Carolina State University. He was Kitchen Manager at Burger Palace. He was a member of Western Chapel A.M.E. Church.
Survivors include his wife and parents; a daughter, Krystle Twann Blair of Spartanburg; a son, Kenneth Eric Blair Jr. of the home; three sisters, Sandra Boozer Green of Alexandria, Va., Kim Boozer Williams of Columbia and Audrey Boozer of Greenwood; four brothers, Willie Alfred Blair and Reginald Boozer, both of Atlanta, Gregory Carroll of Philadelphia and Larry Blair.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc., which is in charge.

Barry Lark
GREENWOOD — Barry Lark, 43, of 320 Cokesbury Road, died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of Thomas “Bob” Lark and the late Mary Frances Marshall Sheppard. He was a graduate of Ninety Six High School Class of 1977 and received a degree in welding from Piedmont Technical College. He was an Army Veteran. He attended Bethlehem Baptist Church in Ninety Six.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Emma Jean Lark, both of Greenwood; a son, Jarvis Brown of Ninety Six; a daughter, Sarne’ Nichole Watts of Greenwood; two brothers, Nathan and Herman Powell, both of Riverside, Calif.; seven sisters, Phyllis Brown of Cross Hill, Frances Wilson and Cynthia O’neal, both of Ninety Six, Brenda Spencer of Greenwood, Susan Lark of Kaneda, Japan, Rita Lark of Columbia and Gloria Lark of Rock Hill and friend, Wilma Watts of Greenwood.
The family is at the home of his father, 120 Myrtle St. and a cousin, Vivian Marshall, 115 Oakhill St.

Sim McPherson
GREENWOOD — Sim McPherson, 74, of 746 Truett Ave., husband of Frances Grimes McPherson, died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Ridge Springs, he was a son of the late Joe and Molkey Rodgers McPherson. He was retired from Abney Mills-Grendal Plant. He was a member of Emerald Church of God.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Larry McPherson of Lexington; a daughter, Debra McPherson of Hodges; a stepson, John David Boyd of Baycliff, Texas ; a stepdaughter, Linda McCoy of Abbeville and four grandchildren.
Services are at 11 Tuesday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Bennie Willard and the Rev. Tim Taylor. Burial is in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are Terry Willard, Joe Willard, Mike Butler, Fred Duff, Rick Elliott and Vernon Kernells.

James Moragne
GREENWOOD — James Thomas Moragne, 82, of 459 Vaughn St., husband of Shirley Sayles Moragne, died Sunday, March 3, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Bourdeux, he was a son of the late James Thomas Moragne Sr. and Mattie Moragne. He was a member of St. Charlotte Baptist Church in McCormick. He was retired from Greenwood Mills and was an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three daughters, Juanita M. Davis, Cecelia Moragne and Janice M. Gary and three grandchildren.
The family is at the home.

Pete Skelton
GREENWOOD — John Paul “Pete” Skelton, 59, of McAbees Group Home, McCormick, died Sunday, March 3, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Abbeville, he was a son of the late Paul and Emma Martin Skelton. He was associated with Emerald Center and was a member of McCormick A.R.P. Church.
Survivors include four sisters, Betty Carrier, Claudia Dobbins and Ann Dudley, all of Greenwood and Debbie Gillian of Waterloo and several nieces and nephews.
Services are at 11 Tuesday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. George Hill and the Rev. Eldridge Kelley. Burial is in Bethlehem Cemetery.
Pallbearers are nephews: Bobby Joe Carrier, David Skelton, Robert Skelton, Paul Skelton, Ronald Carrier, James Carrier, Randy Skelton, Quincy Dudley and Marcus Dudley.
Honorary escorts are residents and staff of McAbee Group Home and Emerald Center.

COLUMBIA — Louise Spearman, 85, formerly of 213 Jacob St., widow of J.B. Spearman, died Sunday, March 3, 2002, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late George Robinson and the late Isabella Davis Robinson. She was a member of Morris Chapel Baptist Church and a former member of the 100th Women in White and the Ladies Auxiliary of Morris Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Peggy Williams of Savannah Lake Village, McCormick; a sister, Lillie Mae McClinton of Greenwood and a step-grandson.
The family is at the home of sister, Lillie Mae McClinton, 1317 Florida Ave., Southview Community.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc., which is in charge.
