Florence Pate Cherry
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Florence Helen Pate Cherry, 87, widow of William C. Cherry, died Sunday, April 21, 2002, at the Palliative Care Center at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville.
A native of Louisville, she lived in Clinton, S.C., from 1968-95. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Clinton and, most recently, a member of Westport Road Baptist Church in Louisville.
Survivors include three sons, William D. Cherry and David N. Cherry, both of Louisville and Timothy P. Cherry of Aiken, S.C.; a sister, Margie Wooldridge; three brothers, Dudley Pate, Raymond Pate and William Pate; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial services are 3 p.m. Saturday at Resthaven Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 2908 Bardstown Road, Suite 100, Louisville, Ky. 40206; the Palliative Care Center of Baptist Hospital East; or a charity of one’s choice.
Resthaven Funeral Home is in charge.

Hazel S. Childress
ANDERSON — Hazel McCurley Schumpert Childress, 71, of 206 Hobson Road, wife of W. Harold Childress, died Monday, April 22, 2002, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late Jim Tom and May Lois Teasley McCurley. She was twice married, first to the late Kenneth Schumpert. She was a retired Realtor of Stathakis Realty Co. and a member of Ware Shoals Ladies Club. She was a member of Boulevard Baptist Church, where she was active in many church activities, including teaching in the Children’s Sunday School Department.V Survivors include her husband of the home; a son, Chuck Schumpert of Dansville, Calif.; three stepsons, Bill Childress and Bob Childress, both of Anderson and Dick Childress of Columbia; a stepdaughter, LuAnne C. Foster of Belton; two grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. today at Boulevard Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Johnny F. McKinney. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, Greenwood.
Visitation is from 2-3 today at the church.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to Boulevard Baptist Church Building Fund, 700 Boulevard, Anderson, S.C. 29621.

William Harrison
TROY — William Harrison, 86, husband of Lula Hardy Jennings Harrison, died Sunday, April 21, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Edgefield County, he was a son of the late Jim and Josephine Quarles Harrison. He was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Plum Branch, and he retired from Harrison Lumber Co. He was twice married, first to the late Gertrude Chamberlain Harrison.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Juanita Chiles of McCormick; a son, Lenwood Dozier of Baltimore; five stepdaughters, Janie Yeldell of McCormick, Lillie Ruth Swearinger and Celia Mae Price, both of Washington , D.C., Mary Quarles of Salisbury, N.C., and Judy Cartledge of Plum Branch; a stepson, Rufus Jennings of Augusta; four stepsisters, Eliza Settles of McCormick, Annie Brown and Alberta Jones, both of Washington and Jessie Perrin of Chicago; 56 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home, Highway 10, Troy.
Services will be announced by Walker Funeral Home, McCormick.

Otis Martin
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Otis Martin, husband of Annie Lee Gilchrist Martin, died Saturday, April 20, 2002, at Greater Southeast Community Hospital.
He was a son of Dave and Marie Martin and a member of St. Goodwill Baptist Church and the Sons of Aide.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Terry Martin of Bowie, Md., and Thomas Martin of Washington ; a daughter, Mariam Martin of Washington ; six sisters, Eunice Jackson and Eula Mae Cade, both of Troy, S.C., Lena Jackson, Cleo Jackson and Catherine Brooks, all of Abbeville, S.C., and Lucille Williams of Washington ; two brothers, Walter Martin of Troy and Horace Martin of Abbeville; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home of Eunice and Earl Jackson, Route 1, Box 30, Troy.
Services will be announced by Brown and Walker Funeral Home, Abbeville.

Otis ‘Woot’ Butler
GREENWOOD — Otis “Woot” Butler, 87, of McCormick Health Care, formerly of 114 Russell St., widower of Anna Green Butler, died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late Gene and Addie Holloway Butler. He was a former employee of Greenwood Mills and a member of Second Mount Moriah Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Lizzie Lee Butler of Connecticut.
The family is at the home of an aunt, Fannie Richie, 114 Russell St.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc.

Robert J. Eaddy
PROSPERITY - Services for Robert Jackson Eaddy, 64, of Prosperity will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2002 at Lexington Baptist Church with burial to follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Johnny Eubanks, Ken Berry, Wray Freeman, James Priest, Gene Roundtree, and Chris Vaughn. Honorary pallbearers will be the Unity Sunday School Class of Lexington Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Palmetto Hospice or Hollings Cancer Institute at MUSC in Charleston.
Caughman-Harman Funeral Homes, Lexington Chapel is in charge.
Mr. Eaddy died Monday, April 22, 2002. Born in Kingstree, SC, he was the son of Eva McAlister Eaddy of Florence and the late Ernest Gideon Eaddy of Hemingway. Mr. Eaddy was a graduate of Hemingway High School and The Citadel, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Education. He was a teacher at North Charleston High School. Mr. Eaddy was a member of Lexington Baptist Church and the Unity Sunday School Class.
Mr. Eaddy served 6 years in the U.S. Army National Guard with 6 months of active duty. Prior to returning as a State Officer in the Columbia office of the Department of Agriculture, he worked for USDA (ASCS) at the county, state and national levels. During his 35 years of service, he was a Specialist and Chief of Compliance with the agricultural program. In Washington , DC he worked to become a National Acquired Program Specialist, and Chief of Compliance for USDA (ASCS). He was the Assistant to the Director of Cotton, Grain and Rice Division of United States; and a Liaison Officer of the American Program for USDA in SC.
Surviving are his wife, Kathy Owen Eaddy of Prosperity; mother of Florence; sister, Myrtle Ree Hanna of Florence; daughter and son-in-law, Karen Eaddy Burns and Danny Burns of Blythewood; daughter, Robyn Eaddy of Atlantic City, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Jackson (Jay) Eaddy, Jr. and Sherrill Eaddy of Greenwood; stepchildren, Beth Owen McRee (Brad) of Rock Hill and John M. Owen, Jr. (Mary Beth) of Richmond, VA; 13 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Furman DeForest Edwards
DECATUR, GA - Mr. Furman DeForest Edwards, age 85, of Decatur died April 22, 2002. Mr. Edwards was born September 28, 1916 in Abbeville, South Carolina, son of the late Mary McCarthy Edwards and George Ball Edwards. Mr. Edwards retired after a 45-year tenure in the men's clothing business with Belk's, Rich's and Zachry Men's Stores.
He was a long time member of the Fellowship Class of Decatur First United Methodist Church, where he also was a long time usher at the main worship service. He was active in his community at Winnona Park, Westchester and Decatur High School. Mr. Edwards was an honored World War II veteran belonging to a battalion which was one of the first groups landing on the beaches at Normandy, France.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Wilma P. Walker Edwards. He is survived by a son, George W. Edwards and wife Angie Meeks Edwards of Richmond, Virginia; daughter, Jane Edwards and husband, Louis Neudorff of Southbury, Connecticut; daughter, Betsy E. Menneg of Atlanta; daughter, Renee Edwards of Decatur; and granddaughter, Meredith G. Menneg, also of Atlanta; brother Winifred Edwards of Greenwood, SC; and sisters Judy E. Whatley and Flossie E. McManus both of Greenwood, SC.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at the chapel of Decatur First United Methodist Church, Bishop L. Bevel Jones and Reverend Grafton Pressley officiating. Interment Melwood Cemetery. Those desiring may make contributions to Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 760 Pollard Blvd., Atlanta, GA 30315.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 24th at A. S. Turner and Sons.

Grace B. Moody
UNION — Grace Breeden Moody, 95, widow of Clyde B. Moody, of Oakmont Residential Care, died Monday, April 22, 2002, at Wallace Thomson Hospital.
Born in Lumber Bridge, N.C., she was a daughter of the late A.J. and Lena Hall Breeden. She was a graduate of Flora McDonald College, and she and her husband were co-owners and operators of Economy Printing and Office Supply. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Union Garden Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Ellen Moody Watson of Greenwood; a son, Clyde Gray Moody of Aiken; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services are at 11 Thursday at First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Clay Howerton. Burial is in Union Memorial Gardens. The body will be placed in the church at 10.
Visitation is from 10-11 Thursday in the fellowship hall of the church.
Memorials may be made to the Moody Memorial Library of First Baptist Church, 405 E. Main St., Union, S.C. 29379.

Dolly Pettigrew
TAMPA, Fla. — Dolly Kathleen Wiley Pettigrew, 74, of 2101 W. Okaloosa Ave., wife of Fred L. Pettigrew Jr., died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at the home of her daughter.
Born in Ninety Six, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Luther and Lexie Long Wiley. She was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a son, Charles Pettigrew of Tampa; four daughters, Dolly P. Franklin, Connie P. Gable and Susan P. Wright, all of McCormick, S.C., and Janice Pettigrew of Tampa; a sister, Betty Adams of Parksville, S.C.; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are 2 p.m. Thursday in Tranquil United Methodist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. James F. Patterson.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Connie Gable, Lot 2, New Bordeaux, McCormick.

ABBEVILLE — Memorial services for John Quarles are at noon Thursday at Brown and Walker Funeral Home, with burial in Harbison Cemetery.

Alisa V. Sanders
GREENWOOD — Alisa “Lisa” Vandella Sanders, 34, of 1410 Phoenix St., wife of Dwayne Sanders, died Monday, April 22, 2002, at her home.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of Willie Ruth Gilchrist Brown and the late James Benson. She was a member of Holy Tabernacle Deliverance Ministries, and served as Youth Choir Director and administrative assistant of the Daycare Ministry.
Survivors include her husband of McCormick; a son, Dwayne Zavier Sanders of the home; two daughters, Alishia Vontrella Sanders and Christian Nicole Sanders, both of the home; and two sisters, Malissa Lyles and Tanga R. Pulley, both of Greenwood.
Services are at 3 Thursday at Holy Tabernacle Deliverance Ministries, conducted by Pastor Chester Miller, assisted by Pastor Joanne Miller and Evangelist Shirley Coleman. Burial is in Springfield Baptist Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 2.
Pallbearers are Kenny Meadows, David Wideman, Bennie Aye, Dennis Burton, Johnny Williams and Adam Pulley Jr.
Flower bearers are Mary Ruth Leak, Anissa Chamberlin, Karen Gantt, Denice Christian, Sarah Fludd and Ursula Kemp.
Visitation is at the home.

Mrs. Ethel Smith
ANDERSON, SC - Mrs.. Ethel Lee Roberts Smith, age 92, of 901 Williamston Road, Anderson, SC, wife of the late J. Glenn Smith, died Monday, April 22, 2002 at NHC HealthCare of Anderson, in Anderson, SC.
Born in Habersham County, GA on March 6, 1910, Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late Jefferson Davis Roberts and the late Sara Jane Dean Roberts. She was a homemaker and a member of Eureka Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Troy Smith of Belton, SC; William Doug Smith and Larry J. Smith, both of Anderson, SC; three daughters, Velma Benton of Chesterfield, SC; Betty Herring of Anderson, SC and Brenda A. Smith of Bradley, SC; a brother, R. D. Roberts of Anderson, SC; thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and her caregiver, Faye Craft of Anderson, SC.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2002 at 3:00 PM at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with the Reverends Robert Dickard and Kile Antone officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The body is at The McDougald Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM on Wednesday, April 24, 2002.
The family will be at the home of her daughter, Betty Herring, 4908 Hwy. 81 North, Anderson, SC.
Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to Eureka Baptist Church, 1600 US 29 North, Anderson, SC 29621.

Barbara Childs Harrison
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Barbara Roberta Williams Childs Harrison, 60, of 1808 Darbrook Drive, died Sunday, April 21, 2002, at her home.
Born in Bradley, S.C., she was a daughter of Martha Jane Nelson Williams and the late Willie David Williams. She was a member of Brewer High School Class of 1961 and attended Claflin University. A former employee of Moore Business Forms, Greenwood, S.C., she retired from the S.C. Employment Security Commission. She was a member of Mount Herman Baptist Church, McCormick, S.C., and Trueway Church of God in Christ, Charlotte.
Survivors include her mother of Greenwood; a daughter, Stephanie C. Kinard of Charlotte; a son, Darius Shannon Childs of Charlotte; four sisters, Mildred W. Brown of Laurens, S.C., Lillie W. Murthy of Greenville, S.C., and Marian W. Carter and Thelma J. Williams, both of Charleston, S.C.; two brothers, James D. Williams of Mauldin, S.C., and Larry K. Williams of Charleston; and six grandchildren.
Services are 1 p.m. Friday at Morris Chapel Baptist Church, Greenwood, with burial in Mount Herman Baptist Church Cemetery, McCormick.
Visitation is from 7-8:30 tonight at 751 Northside Drive, D-4 Georgetown Apartments, Greenwood.
Richmond Funeral Home is in charge.
