Bertha L. Davenport
GREENWOOD — Bertha Lewis Davenport, 84, of 109 Biscayne Drive, widow of Jacob Davenport, died Sunday, April 21, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late Isaac and Easter Aye Lewis. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Norristown, Pa., where she was president of the Senior Choir, treasurer of the Trustees’ Wives Ministry and a member of the Missionary Society and the Women’s Sunday School Class.
She was also a member of Dunn Creek Baptist Church in Ware Shoals.
Survivors include two sons, Bradford Lewis and Edwin C. Corley, both of Norristown, Pa.; two daughters, Easter Corley Harrison and Bobbie Jean Corley Spearman, both of Greenwood; a brother, Vando Lewis Sr. of Greenwood; three sisters, Hattie Lee Lewis Carroll of Greenwood, Sadie Mae Lewis White of Honea Path and Frances Irene Lewis Hubbard of Norristown, Pa.; 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Dunn Creek Baptist Church, Ware Shoals, conducted by the Rev. James F. Davis III, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Deloris Henderson, assistant pastor, and the Rev. Clyde Cannon. The body will be placed in the church at 10. Burial is in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Visitation is Friday evening at the homes of Mrs. Lafayette (Easter) Harrison, 109 Biscayne Drive and Mrs. Willie (Bobbie Jean) Spearman, 428 Wade St.
Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc. is in charge.

Annie Belle Coates
GREENWOOD — Annie Belle Coates, 57, of 611 Hall St., died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Jesse James and Rosa Lee Morgan Palmore. She was a member of Dunham Temple C.M.E. Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Rosa Elaine Griffin of the home; a son, William Stanley Griffin of Columbia; three brothers, James Horace Griffin and James Henry Palmore, both of Greenwood and Robert Lee Palmore of North Carolina; six sisters, Julia Chambers, Elizabeth Palmore, Shirley Nance and Brenda Payne, all of Greenwood, Lona Mae Hackett and Gladys Palmore, both of Cross Hill; and three grandchildren.
Services will be announced by Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home.

Annie Belle Coates
GREENWOOD — Services for Annie Belle Coates, of 611 Hall St., are 1 p.m. Friday at Dunham Temple C.M.E. Church, conducted by the Rev. James McKee. The body will be placed in the church at noon. Burial is in Evening Star Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Curtis Griffin, Daniel Sherman Jr., Derick Moore, Johnny Floyd and Jimmy Moton.
Flower bearers are Cassandra Jackson, Willie Ann Brown, Catherine Childs, Katie Parks, Brenda Hackett and Maggie Walker.
The family is at the home.

Mary Crawford Orba
ABBEVILLE — Mary Crawford Orba, 72, of 717 S. Main St., widow of Roy Orba, died Thursday, April 18, 2002, at Elberton Memorial Hospital.
Born in Evanston, Ill., she was a daughter of the late Frank and Lula Pruitt Crawford.
Survivors include a son, Bennie Crawford of Greenwood; two daughters, JoAnne Jones of Greenwood and Frances Jean Crawford of Abbeville; three sisters, Essie Adams and Frances Goolsby, both of Abbeville and Geraldine Latimer of Belton; two brothers, Norris Odell Crawford and Frank Crawford, both of Abbeville.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Abbeville & White Mortuary.

ABBEVILLE — Graveside services for Mary Crawford Orba, of 717 South Main St., are at 2 Monday at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Mary Wade Battle
PHILADELPHIA — Mary Wade Battle, 72, wife of Ree Battle, died Sunday, April 14, 2002, in Philadelphia.
Born in Abbeville County, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Arther and Emmaline Smith Wade. She moved to Philadelphia in the early 1950s.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a daughter, Aileen Battle Tyson of Philadelphia; a sister, Louise Wade Hall of Abbeville; a brother, Theo Wade of Abbeville; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services will be in Philadelphia. Announcement is courtesy of Richie Funeral Home, Abbeville.

Diana Wiedling
McCORMICK — Diana Waldron Wiedling, 58, of New Bordeaux Subdivision 55, wife of Fred Wiedling, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at her home.
Born in Bay City, Mich., she was a daughter of Virgil and Catherine McRorie Waldron of Essexville, Mich. She was a teacher.
Survivors include her husband of the home; her parents of Essexville, Mich.; four sons, Tom H. Schmidt of St. Pete, Fla., Ara Schmidt of Riviera, Fla., Thor Schmidt of Boca Raton, Fla. and Alex Schmidt of Henderson, Tenn.; two brothers, Wayne Waldron of Livonia, Mich. and Brian Waldron of Penfield, N.Y.; two sisters, Willa Folwer of Bay City, Mich. and Lynn Horowiatz of Escondido, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service is at 2 Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at Strom Funeral Home.

Francis Marion Little
ABBEVILLE — Francis Marion Little, 89, of 1957 Highway 20 Bypass, husband of Zelma Moon Little, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Hart County, GA., he was a son of the late Oscar W. and Ellen Sanders Little. A member of Sharon United Methodist Church and a former member of Woodman of the World, he had worked in the construction industry.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Barbara L. Burden of Beaufort; three sons, Dennis Little of Waxhaw, N.C., Larry Little of High Point, N.C., and Dwayne Little of Hartwell, Ga.; a sister, Darrell Barton of Hartwell; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services are at 2 Sunday at Sharon United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Todd Davis. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Entombment is in Franklin Memorial Gardens, Lavonia, Ga.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Harris Funeral Home.

Roberta Kern
GREENWOOD — Roberta Sunderman “Bobbie” Kern, 65, of 104 Reedy Cove Place, wife of Donald A. Kern, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at Self Regional Healthcare.
Born in Deshler, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Herman and Verna Gerken Sunderman. She graduated from Troy High School, Troy, Mich., and retired from Hoechst Roussel Pharmaceuticals in Atlanta. Living in Greenwood since 1998, she was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a daughter, Diane K. Baumgartner of Boston; a son, Don L. Kern of Dallas, Texas ; three sisters, Marcine Anderson of Inman, Mildred Blevins of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Donna Kadrovac of Royal Oak, Mich.; a brother, Wayne Sunderman of Tucson, Ariz.; and a granddaughter.
Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. John Setzler. Burial is in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are Glen Rork, Vaughn Watson, John Holden, Bill Beumer, Buck Jones and Darrell Sallee.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home.

HODGES — Thomas Wyatt “Tom” Rogers, 45, of 3321 Highway 246 N., husband of Marjorie Barnes Rogers, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at Self Regional Healthcare.
Born in Narsaruak, Greenland, he was a son of James B. and Bettie Shirley Rogers. He attended Greenwood High School and Piedmont Technical College and was an Air Force veteran. He was an employee of Masters RV Center and a member of Providence Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his parents of Hodges; two daughters, Heather Rogers of the home and Justina Reardon of North Carolina; a son, Robert F. Reardon III of North Carolina; and a sister, Linda R. Garner of Greenwood.
Services are at 3 Friday at Providence Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lamar Babb officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 2. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are David Daniel, Glenn Holley, Barry Holley, David Price, Tony Langley and Thomas Burroughs. Honorary pallbearers are the men of Providence Baptist Church.
Visitation is from 6:30-8:30 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of his parents, James and Bettie Rogers, 3322 Highway 246 N. Blyth Funeral Home, Greenwood, is in charge.

Kay Matthews
GREENWOOD — Kay Davis Bryan Matthews, 63, of 203 Briggs St., wife of Joe O. Matthews, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at her home.
Born in Atlanta, she was a daughter of the late James E. and Julia Wolling Davis. She retired from Greenwood Mills Executive Offices, where she was a member of the Quarter Century Club. She was a Worthy Matron of Hodges Chapter 272, Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church and the Aileen Barnes Sunday School Class. She was twice married, first to the late Charles Preston Bryan.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two daughters, Judy Collins and Suzanne Copelan, both of Greenwood; two sons, Steve Bryan of Greenwood and Stan Bryan of Saluda; a stepson, James David Matthews of Greenwood; two stepdaughters, Melanie M. Abrams of Simpsonville and Maureen Upshaw of Dublin, Ga.; two sisters, Betty Pouncy of Charlotte, N.C., and Nell Boone of Greenwood; two brothers, John G. Davis and Louis Davis, both of Greenwood; 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services are at 11 Wednesday at Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Reuel Westbrook and the Rev. Sandy Scott. The body will be placed in the church at 10. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Bill Spivey, Bob Nelson, Bernard Padgett, Gene Hancock, Frank Boland, George McKinney and Emmett Brooks.
Honorary escorts are members of Hodges Chapter 272, Order of the Eastern Star and the Aileen Barnes Sunday School Class of the church, along with Dr. J.K. Stokes, Dr. Mark Robirds, Dr. Kimberly Russell, Strom Williams and Cecil Browning.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Harley Funeral Home.
