Harlan "Blackie" Krause

Java -- The funeral for Harlan "Blackie" Krause, 63, of Java will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Java. The Rev. Grace Torrance will officiate.

Burial will be in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home of Bowdle in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home in Bowdle, and for one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church in Java.

He died of natural causes Friday, June 2, 2000, at the Bowdle Nursing Home.

Harlan Krause was born Oct. 11, 1936, to Israel C. and Lydia (Schilling) Krause at Mobridge. He was raised on the family farm six miles north of Java and attended Sunshine Country School through the eighth grade. He graduated from Java High School in 1955. Following his education, he farmed with his father and brother.

He married Ramona Buechler on Aug. 3, 1958, at Bowdle. They settled on a farm 1/4 mile east of his parents' farm. He also worked part time at the Java Equity Exchange as long as his health permitted. He had resided at the Bowdle Nursing Home since March.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and served on the church finance committee. He was also a member of the Java Community Club, playing Santa Claus for many years, the Java Public School Board, Java Community Cafe Board, Java Centennial Committee and the board overseeing the Java Apartments.

He enjoyed playing cards, was an airplane enthusiast and a sports fan.

Survivors include his wife of Java; one son, James Krause of Madison; three daughters, Marsha R. (Dana) Enderson and Marlys M. (Ed) Sasse, both of Watertown, and Sheila K. Krause of Aberdeen; one brother, Harry Krause of Java; one sister, Stella Buechler of Bowdle; and two granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson.

Casketbearers will be Steve Biel, Cliff Bieber, Terry Hofer, Russell Bender and Earl Frank, all of Java; and Wilbur Krause of Alpena.

Judy Ann Schutz

Black Hawk -- Judy Ann Schutz, 44, of Black Hawk died of natural causes Thursday, May 25, 2000, at her home.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at Behrens Mortuary Chapel in Rapid City.

Burial will be in the Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis.

Judy Freeman was born March 2, 1956, to Francis and Ramona (Peterson) Freeman.

She married Ken Schutz, formerly of Aberdeen.

Survivors include her husband of Black Hawk; two sons, Chris Schutz of Rapid City, and Jason Schutz of Black Hawk; one daughter, Stacy Tate of Fairbanks, Alaska; her mother of Black Hawk; two brothers, Mark Freeman of Black Hawk, and Mike Freeman of Kadoka; and three grandchildren.

Marian Hall Sogn

Brookings -- Marian Hall Sogn, 77, of Brookings died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at the Brookings Hospital.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church in Brookings. The Rev. John Moe and the Rev. Scott Miller will officiate.

Burial will be in the Greenwood cemetery at Brookings with Rude's Funeral Home of Brookings in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Marian Hall was born Oct. 27, 1922, to Morell and Helen (Mall) Hall at Brookings. She attended Brookings High School and South Dakota State College in Brookings.

She married Art Sogn, formerly of Groton, on Feb. 16, 1943, in Brookings.

Survivors include her husband of Brookings; one daughter, Susan (Larry) Engeltjes of Sioux Falls; two sons, David Sogn of Brookings and Donn (Christine) Sogn of Kirkland, Wash., seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.

Reinholdt Wolff

Yankton -- Graveside services for Reinholdt Wolff, 83, of Yankton and formerly of the Tolstoy-Onaka area, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the German Zion Congregational cemetery, Tolstoy. The Rev. Charles Snipes will officiate. Miller Funeral Home of Bowdle is in charge of arrangements.

He died Saturday, May 27, 2000, at the Human Services Center in Yankton.

Reinholdt Wolff was born May 23, 1917, to Louise (Seidel) and Edd C. Wolff in Meadow. He lived and attended rural school in that area until age 10, when he moved with his family to the Tolstoy-Onaka area. This is where he completed his rural schooling and was raised. Following his schooling, he stayed with his parents primarily and also stayed some with his sister and brother-in-law Esther and Norman Schatz. He also worked on their farm. In the early 1950s, he moved to the Human Services Center in Yankton. He worked at various jobs. With the money he raised, he purchased a riding lawn mower and operated his own lawn care business for many years until his health would no longer permit it.

He had been a member of the Tolstoy United Methodist Church. Prior to moving to Yankton, he had enjoyed working on the farm and with the cattle.

Survivors include four brothers, Adolph Wolff of Denver, Edward Wolff of Silvis, Ill., Clifford Wolff of Hayden Lake, Idaho, and Robert Wolff of Lakewood, Colo.; and seven sisters, Evelyn Dickhaut of the Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls, Esther Schatz of Roscoe, Lillian Schroeder of Rapid City, Lucille Johnson of Philadelphia, Shirley Kleeman of Denver, Clara Stanley of Sioux Falls and Katherine Engel of Colona, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Dellrae D. "Dell" Holty

Aberdeen -- Mass of Christian burial for Dellrae D. "Dell" Holty, 62, of 509 N. High St. will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 215 N. Arch St. The Rev. Gregory Tschakert will officiate.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military rites by the Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post No. 24 of Aberdeen. Schriver's Memorial Mortuary, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W., is in charge of arrangements.

A liturgical wake service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, all at the mortuary.

He died Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at Redfield Community Memorial Hospital.

Timothy Lawrence Barton

Port Jefferson Station, N.Y. -- The funeral for Timothy Lawrence Barton, 35, of Port Jefferson Station and formerly of Ellendale, N.D., will be at 2 p.m. today in the Presbyterian United Methodist Church, Ellendale. The Rev. Steven Tvedt will officiate.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen with Hoven Funeral Chapel in Ellendale in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the funeral chapel and for one hour prior to the service today at the church.

He died Monday, May 29, 2000, in Terryville, N.Y.

Timothy Lawrence Barton was born Aug. 4, 1964, to Lawrence and Margaret (Moore) Barton in Bakersfield, Calif. He grew up in California City, Calif., and in Ellendale. As a young boy, he enjoyed motorcross dirt biking. In 1982, he began his employment with Nicor Drilling in Williston, N.D., working on oil rigs. His adult years were spent in California, where he attended Long Beach City College. He owned his own company named Pacific Consulting Services. From 1989 to 1999, he was employed as a sales manager at StorminOs Inc. in Ozark, Alabama. In November 1999, he advanced his career and moved to Long Island, N.Y., where he was employed with Ramp Truck Sales. He lived on Long Island until the time of his death.

He enjoyed cooking, entertaining, boating, fishing and hunting.

Survivors include his parents of Ellendale; one sister, Cynthia "Cindy" Hinds of Newburg, Ind.; and special friend, Toni Iodaci of Lodi, N.J.

He was preceded in death by two brothers in infancy, his paternal grandparents, his paternal stepgrandfather and his maternal grandparents.

Casketbearers will be Jason Moore, Kyle Moore, Daniel Barton, Perry DeWald, James Retzlaff and Daryl LeMatta.

Joyce Marie Lauderdale

Oakes, N.D. -- The funeral for Joyce Marie Lauderdale, 48, of Oakes will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Church of the Nazarene in Oakes. The Rev. Robin Bucklin will officiate.

Burial will be in Oakes View cemetery under the direction of Dahlstrom Funeral Home of Oakes.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

She and her daughter Debbie Lauderdale died as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident Thursday, June 8, 2000, near Britton.

Joyce Marie Simonson was born Aug. 25, 1951, to M. Wesley and Mildred (Kastner) Simonson in Bemidji, Minn. She grew up and attended school in Bemidji. She graduated from Bemidji High School in 1969. She then attended Oak Hills Bible Institute and Bemidji Technical College, both in Bemidji.

She married Richard Lauderdale on July 5, 1980, in Bemidji. They lived in Waubun, Minn., until 1986, before moving around the country during his military career. They moved back to Waubun before settling in Oakes in 1992, where they continued to live.

She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.

She enjoyed sewing and reading.

Survivors include her husband of Oakes; two daughters, Rebecca Lauderdale and Tina Lauderdale, both at home; three brothers, Paul Simonson of Bemidji, Jim Simonson of Cass Lake, Minn., and John Simonson of Nampa, Idaho; and one stepmother, Alma Simonson of Bemidji.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and a stepmother.

Casketbearers will be Al Franson, Robert Pestal, James Simonson, Paul Simonson and John Simonson.

Herbert Crissman

Sun City, Ariz. -- The funeral for Herbert Crissman, 71, of Sun City and formerly of Ipswich, will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the United Church of Christ, Ipswich. The Rev. Bethanne Sehring will officiate.

Burial will be in the Ipswich City cemetery with Hein Funeral Home of Ipswich in charge of arrangements.

There will be no visitation.

He died Saturday, June 10, 2000, at the Logan Regional Hospital in Logan, Utah.

Herbert Crissman was born Dec. 6, 1928, to Herbert and Elizabeth (Meadows) Crissman in Ipswich. He attended school in Ipswich, graduating from high school in 1947. He attended South Dakota State College and North Dakota State College. He was a pharmaceutical salesman for many years.

On Nov. 14, 1954, he married Marion Eberle. They lived in Faulkton, Brookings, Brandon, Sioux Falls, and after retirement, in Sun City for the past 13 years.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Yelduz Shrine.

He was an avid golfer.

Survivors include his wife of Sun City; two daughters, Lynette (Mike) Christiansen of Chesterton, Ind., and Beth (Rod) Collette of Onawa, Iowa; four sons, Herb Kent Crissman of Phoenix, Bruce Crissman of Youngstown, Ohio, Craig (Michele) Crissman of Sioux Falls, and Blaine (Mary) Crissman of Evanston, Ill.; two sisters, Goergene Kilpatrick of San Antonio, Texas., and Phyllis Erickson of St. Paul, Minn.; one brother, Earle Crissman of Ipswich; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Richard J. "Dick" Lovcik

Aberdeen -- Richard J. "Dick" Lovcik, 73, of 804 16th Ave. N.E. died Monday, June 5, 2000, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital.

His Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 215 N. Arch St. The Rev. Gregory Tschakert will officiate.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Schriver's Memorial Mortuary, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W., in charge of arrangements.

A liturgical wake will be at 7 tonight at the mortuary.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday, all at the mortuary.

Richard J. Lovcik was born March 14, 1927, to Florian and Balbina (Suda) Lovcik at Park River, N.D. He attended country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Walsh County Training High School in Park River in 1944. He entered the U.S. Army in December 1950, during the Korean War. He received an honorable discharge in September 1952.

He married Violet Wendt on July 6, 1953, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen. He worked for New York Life Insurance Company for 10 years, then worked for Dunn and Bradstreet from 1967 until retiring Dec. 31, 1986. He was an administrator for the Moose Lodge for several years.

He enjoyed playing cards, working crossword puzzles, gardening and traveling.

Survivors include his wife of Aberdeen; two sons, Randall (Kandis) Lovcik of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Ted (Stacy) Lovcik of Madison, Wis.; four daughters, Renee (Daniel) Dallich of Green Bay, Wis., Karen Lovcik of Phoenix, Diana (Larry) Strom of St. Paul, Minn., and Patti (Tim) Waterman of Aberdeen; three sisters, Lorraine Bohac of Grand Forks, N.D., Ann Makovsky of Blaine, Minn., and Dorothy Sherek of Portland, Ore.; seven grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Casketbearers will be Frank Daly, Bill Dosch, David Henderson, Wallace King, Bruce Mitchell and Clifford Syhre.
