Joyce Trapp LeMaistre, age 71, of San Antonio died Friday, December 5, 2003.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years, Charles A. LeMaistre, M. D.; sons, Charles F. LeMaistre, M. D. and his wife, Loretta, William S. LeMaistre, J. D., M. P. H. of Fort Worth, TX; daughters, Joyce A. LeMaistre, M. D. and her husband, Ron Philo, Ph. D., Helen Meyer, M. S. and her husband, Ted; grandchildren, Court LeMaistre, Collin LeMaistre, Julia LeMaistre, Ian LeMaistre, Aubrey and Theo Meyer; brother, Dewey Trapp and wife, Mary Joyce of Aliceville, Al.

Lt. Gen. Gerald J. Post USAF (Ret.), age 78, of San Antonio, died Wednesday, December 3, 2003. In November, 1973, General Post became Deputy Chief of Staff, material management and in December, 1975, he became Chief of Staff for the command. He was reassigned to Headquarters U.S. Air Force in June, 1977 to position of Director, logistics plans and programs. In October, 1977, he became Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff, systems and logistics. On August 1, 1978, General Post became Director of Defense Logistics Agency. He was a master navigator. His military decorations and awards include the Legion of Merit with one oak leaf cluster, Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medal and Air Medal with two oak leaf clusters. He was promoted to the grade of Lieutenant General on August 1, 1978, with the same date of rank. Survivors: wife, Jane S. Post; daughter, Sharyn Post, Springfield, VA; sons, Gerald Post, Jr. and wife, Kay, Cheyenne, WY, Steven Post and wife, Ursula, Plano, TX, Richard Post and wife, Bonnie, Austin, TX, Sean Post and wife, Julie, Deltona, FL and David Post and wife, Ericka Ramirez-Post; daughter, Tracy Krupa and her husband, Michael, all of San Antonio; sisters-in-law, Mary-Phylis Post, Methuen, MA and Patricia Coulon, East Bridgewater, MA; 21 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Born in Waelder, TX on May. 15, 1929

Joyce Elizabeth Hollyfield Holchak died Wednesday, December 31, 2003, shortly after being diagnosed with liver cancer.
She was born May 15, 1929 at Waelder, Texas to Otto Moses Hollyfield and Dora Edna Hill Hollyfield and was reared in Thompsonville, a rural community west of Waelder, educated at Waelder public schools, attended the University of Texas, graduated from Southwest Texas State University in 1949 and began a teaching career in home economics at Wallis, Texas.
She married William Howell Holchak June 2, 1950 in Waelder Methodist Church and they resided for almost 2 years in Cleveland, Texas, where he edited the newspaper and she taught home economics.
Her teaching career was interrupted when her husband went on active duty with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. She joined him in Japan, where they resided until his discharge in 1954.
She then taught school in Three Rivers, Texas, where her husband was co-owner and editor of the newspaper for 18 months. They moved to San Antonio in June, 1955, where he began a career in advertising and public relations.
Mrs. Holchak stayed home to rear her two sons, Glenn and Paul, until 1970, when she returned to her teaching career in SAISD. She taught at Fannin Elementary School for two years and then at John Pershing Elementary School as a 1st grade teacher for 18 years.
She was a life-long Methodist and she and her husband joined St. Andrew’s Methodist Church in 1955 and remained active until her death. \
Mrs. Holchak was President of the Wesleyan Service Guild, the Woman’s Society of Christian Service (forerunner of the United Methodist Women), Chairperson of the Church Council, served on several commissions, taught Sunday School and was a volunteer with Andy’s Kids, an after-school day-care program.
Mrs. Holchak was also a leader in Bible Study Fellowship and served as President of Chapter O, PEO. She was a cancer survivor and served as a volunteer for the Cancer Therapy and Research Center in the Medical Center for six years.
She was honored as CTRC Volunteer of the year in 1996.
After devotion to her family and church, her first love was tending the flowers and plants in her yard.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, John Harper Hollyfield and Brooks Hill Hollyfield. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Bill Holchak; sons, Glenn William Holchak of San Antonio and Paul Hollyfield Holchak of New York City; several nieces and numerous cousins.

Robert Charles Roos, III

Robert Charles Roos, III, age 77. of Fair Oaks Ranch, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003.
He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his death.
Mr. Roos was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Charles Roos, Jr. and Lorene Roos and brother, Claude Roos.

Murray A. Winn

Murray Arvin Winn, Jr., 88, of San Antonio, died Thursday, July 10, 2003.
Murray was a member of First United Methodist Church of Boerne. He was also a member of the San Antonio Power Squadron and the Oak Hills Country Club.
Murray was a former owner of Winn Stores and developer of the residential community of Windcrest.
Murray graduated from St. Mary’s University in 1935 with an Accounting Degree to help with the family Winn Store business.
After the business was sold in the early 50’s, Murray envisioned a residential neighborhood on the Northeast side of San Antonio, which became the City of Windcrest.
After developing Windcrest for four decades, Murray and Barbee retired in 1988 to Boerne, Texas. He is survived by; Barbee Taylor Winn, his wife of 63 years, sons Tom Winn and wife Dede, Steve Winn, Randy Winn and wife Cathy, grandchildren Brant Winn, Todd Winn and wife Amy, Andrea Winn, Jason Winn, Sam Winn, Trey Winn, Lindsay Burkey and husband Russell, Patrick Winn and fiancée Michele Flater, Melanie Winn, and great granddaughter Reese Cameron Burkey.

Edward Mendiola

Edward “Eddie” Mendiola, age 48, of San Antonio, died Tuesday, December 30, 2003.
He was preceded in death by his father, Luis Mendiola, Sr., his brother, Luis Mendiola, Jr., his nephew, Michael LaHood, Jr. and his mother, Maria Mendiola.

Vincent Paul Sekula

Vincent Paul Sekula, loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and loyal friend to many, born June 27, 1921 passed from this world on Tuesday, December 2, 2003.
Vincent was a barber on the Southeast side of San Antonio for over 50 years.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and during that time was honored to be selected to cut President Harry Truman’s hair twice in addition to numerous generals such as General George Patton at the Potsdam Conference.
Vincent especially loved living in the Cestohowa and Kosciusko area and served as a Eucharistic Minister at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Wesley P. MacLeod; parents, Ben and Regina Sekula; brother, Leonard Sekula. He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Theresa Sekula; daughters, Cookie MacLeod and Ron, Patsy Santos and Robert, Sherry Wilkerson and David, Toni Lewis and Greg; son, Bernie Sekula and Wendy. He was Popo and Grandpa to Brandon and Christian Sekula, William and Katherine Wilkerson and Alexandra and Avery Lewis. He is also survived by sister, Eleanor Dzuik and brothers, Henry, Joe, and Archie Sekula; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Special thanks to Dr. Stephen Cohen and Dr. Thomas Nau and their superb staff and to the compassionate nurses in One North at the Northeast Baptist Hospital.

CWO-4 Harry Popper, USAF (Ret.)
Born in Bronx, New York on Oct. 13, 1914
Died Nov. 22, 2003 and resided in San Antonio, TX.

Harry Popper, retired Chief Warrant Officer W-4, with 30 years active duty in the United States Air Force, passed away at his home in San Antonio, Texas, Saturday, November 22, 2003 at the age of 89. The cause was cancer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Popper.
Over his career, Mr. Popper was awarded numerous medals and commendations for his work in supply and logistics. Beginning in 1968, he was awarded "Outstanding Supply Officer of the Year" four consecutive years in a row.
During WWII, Mr. Popper served with the 366th Bomb Squadron, 305th Bomb Group where he participated in the European Air Offensive in Iceland, Ardennes and Normandy, France and Rhineland, Germany. His service included assignments with SAC and Security Service; he was stationed in Florida, California, Alaska, South Carolina, New Mexico Okinawa, Taiwan, Texas and Turkey.
As a young man, Mr. Popper moved from Bronx, New York with his family to Hollywood when his sister, Frances "McCoy" Popper was hired by Warner Brothers as a motion picture actress. There he worked as an electrician on movie sets.
Mr. Popper's love for Turkey was profound. When he first stepped off the plane in Istanbul he said, "I'm home." After his retirement in 1974, Mr. Popper returned to Turkey where he worked for a military contractor in support of the Air Force mission in Ankara. While there he became a student of Turkish culture and history. He also learned to speak the language and made dozens of Turkish friends over the 12 years he lived there.
An extraordinarily creative person, known for his humor, Mr. Popper was an avid gardener, pickler, chef, wood carver, and raconteur.
He is survived by his beloved friend and fiancée, Betty Davisson; sons, Samuel and Frank; daughter, Victoria Angel; daughters-in-law, Jane Popper, and Regina Popper; son-in-law, Nicholas Angel; and grandchildren, Patricia, Samuel Jr., Mark, Nicole, Anya, Jack, and Spencer.

Keith Alan Dickerson

Esther Morgan, age 78, of San Antonio, TX, passed away, Saturday, November 29, 2003. She was born on January 25, 1925 in Spangler, PA to George Sandberg and Clara Carlson Sandberg. Mrs. Morgan was a former resident of Avon Lake, OH. The hobbies she enjoyed were quilting, music and singing. Mrs. Morgan is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert S. Morgan of San Antonio; son, James L. Morgan and his wife Linda of Roswell, GA; daughter, Dianne Scott; grandson, John “Jack” Scott, both of San Antonio; sister, Jeanne Pohlmeyer of Las Cruces, NM and numerous nieces and nephews.
