Barbara D. Montgomery, 65, of San Antonio, died February 5, 2006 after a long illness.
Born in Laureldale, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Venice (Hartman) Mabry. Mrs. Montgomery was a homemaker who had made San Antonio her home for the past 9 years. She was a member of the Alfa Lonestars and Escapees RV Club where she enjoyed retirement on the road.
Surviving are her husband, Donald Montgomery; two daughters, Cynthia D. Faust of Converse, TX, and Sheri L. Estrada of Stockton, CA; a son, Eric K. Montgomery of Mirana, AZ; two brothers, Donald Mabry of Rio Rancho, NM, and Barry Mabry of Downingtown, PA; and eight grandchildren.

Gayle Don Black
Born in San Antonio, TX on Jan. 18, 1938
Died Feb. 3, 2006 and resided in San Antonio, TX.

Gayle Don Black, age 68, passed away tragically February 3, 2006.
Gayle was a former member on the Board of Directors of Sonterra Country Club and the Sonterra Men’s Golf Association. He retired from Valero Energy Company as the Vice President of Corporate Financial Planning.
Gayle was a certified public accountant as well as serving as Vice President and CFO of Southland Drilling Company, Inc. and Love Oil Company.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Black and his parents, Inez and Barney Black.
He is survived by his loving wife of four years, Della; daughter, Sheri Rae Ferris and her husband Eric; step-daughter, Nannette San Martin; granddaughter, Jordyana Rae Ordones; sister-in-law, Pansay Black; and nephew, Mike Black. Gayle will be deeply missed by his family, business associates and close friends on and off the golf course.

John R. Frey

John Robert Frey, 37 years old, of San Antonio, Texas passed on February 1, 2006. John is survived by his wife, Alison, and his two beautiful sons, Taver and Skyler. He is also survived by Thom and Elaine Frey, father and stepmother of Littleton, Colorado; Vicki and Chuck Knorr, mother and stepfather of Florence, Oregon, his sister and brother-in-law Julie and Mike Byczynski, and another sister Jennifer Martinez. John graduated from Ocean Springs High School, Ocean Springs, Mississippi, class of 1987. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1992. John will always be remembered as a loving father, son and husband, an avid soccer player and coach. He loved golf, the beach and the outdoors.

Lt. Col. Frank Preston Tipton

Lt. Col. Frank Preston Tipton, U.S.A.F. (Ret.), born on December 14, 1918 at Atlanta, Georgia is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary Jane Tipton; two nieces, Jean Kirkpatrick and Linda Hale.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred E. Tipton and William Marshall Tipton and one brother, Jack M. Tipton.
He was of the Class of 1941 at the University of Georgia (Athens). Commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in September, 1942, from the Miami Beach OCS, he had various assignments state-side and a three year tour in Newfoundland.
While on AFROTC duty at the University of Maryland, College Park, he was enrolled as a night student at The George Washington University, Washington, D.C. from 1950 – 1954. He received a Juris Doctor degree (JD) and passed the D.C. bar in June 1954.
While on Air Force assignment in Los Angeles, he enrolled as a night student at the University of Southern California, receiving a Master of Laws degree (LLM) in 1962.
He retired from the Air Force in 1963 and immediately went to work as Assistant General Counsel for the Northrop Corporation (now NorthropGrumman).
In 1976, he was medically retired from Northrop.

Edward Flores
Born in San Antonio, TX on Apr. 11, 1934
Died Jan. 31, 2006 and resided in San Antonio, TX.

Edward Flores, age 71, died on Tuesday, January 31, 2006. He is survived by his daughter, Maritza Oldfather and husband, Thomas; former spouse, Nellie Flores Herrera; sister, Sylvia Macy; numerous nieces and nephews.
Ed was a Korean War veteran and a graduate of St. Mary’s University. He will be remembered as a loving father who loved spending time with his daughter, enjoyed golf, sports and traveling.
He was an optimist with a great love for life. In his eyes, the glass was always half full. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Marvene Miller Thompson Simmons

Marvene Miller Simmons, only child of Samuel and Bertha Thompson, died Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at Alamo Heights Health and Rehabilitation Center. A resident of San Francisco and Daly City, CA for almost 50 years, she moved to San Antonio in 2000 and lived at The Inn at Los Patios and The Forum at Lincoln Heights.
She had a lovely singing voice and an even lovelier smile. She was born April 28, 1915, in Walton, NE and was raised in Pierce, NE. Her musical talents were varied, ranging from her lifelong love of the piano, beginning with her childhood in Pierce, to her proficiency on the accordion and harmonica acquired while living in Wels, Austria in the years following WWII.
Marvene initially attended Wayne State Teachers College in Wayne, NE, but subsequently graduated from the Nebraska Methodist Episcopal Hospital School of Nursing in Omaha as a registered nurse in 1937. She enjoyed a long, rewarding career in nursing, and was supervisor of surgery at Children’s Hospital in San Francisco when she retired. Following her retirement, she indulged her love of sewing and crafting, and was active in volunteer work.
Married for over 50 years to Chief Warrant Officer (Army) Gerald W. Simmons, she is survived by: daughter, Sandra S. Carlson and partner, Edward P. Allyn of Albany and Woodstock, NY; son, Thomas G. Simmons and partner, Mark A. Skruhak of San Antonio; grandsons, Tae Carlson and wife, Kerri of Nassau, NY; Ian Carlson and wife, Julie of Albany, NY; and Thane Simmons and wife, Amy of Crestview, FL; great-grandchildren, Conner and Colby Carlson of Nassau, and Shelly and Darren Simmons of Crestview.
While living in San Antonio, Marvene became a strong supporter of the Alamo City Men’s Chorale. Memorial contributions may be directed to ACMC, P. O. Box 120243, San Antonio, TX 78212.
Her ashes will be interred alongside her husband’s in the Presidio National cemetery in San Francisco on what would have been her 91st birthday.

Frances P. Campise

Our precious baby girl, Sophie Grace Magill, entered this world on November 25, 2005, and is now resting in the loving arms of Jesus.

Stephen W. Fotis, age 89, of San Antonio, died Thursday, April 27, 2006.
Mr. Fotis was a member of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church and the AHEPA. He was born and grew up in Lynn, MA and was a graduate of Harvard University.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and three brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Clara Fotis; brother, Charles Fotis, Washington, D.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Audrey Lorraine Ball

Audrey Kolbe Ball, age 82, died Thursday, May 4, 2006 in San Antonio, Texas. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Ida Lou Connelly. Audrey is survived by her husband of 65 years, Capt. James Ball; daughter, Elaine Ball Cain and husband, Archie; son, James Ball, Jr.; grandchildren, Lisa Borden and husband, Jim, Scott Connelly; Janet Hamlin and husband Michael; great grandson, Wesley Hamlin, and devoted poodle Angel. Throughout her husband’s 34 years in the Navy, Audrey traveled to various assignments including Panama, Morocco, Iceland and the Philippines. Audrey was active in Navy Relief, the Naval Officers Wives Club and the Church of Christ. After retirement, they moved to Key West, Florida where they lived for 18 years. For the past 5 years, Audrey and Jim have lived in the Air Force Village I with their dog Angel.

She was devoted to her children and grandchildren and enjoyed being with them at family gatherings that included lots of good food and good times.
She was preceded in death by husband, Adrian D. Menchaca; and son, Ernest J. Menchaca.
Survivors: sons, Edward M. Menchaca, Adrian R. Menchaca and wife, Rebecca, Rene G. Menchaca and wife, Debbie; daughter, Anna Marie Perez and husband, Robert; daughter-in-law, Louise Menchaca; grandchildren, Ernie, Valerie, Lisa, Eddie, Adrian, Andrea, John Paul, Michael, Amanda, Chris, Christina and Miranda; sister, Angelita Hernandez and husband, Arthur; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; sidekick and friend, Mary Lou Alvarado.
