Talmadge Nobel Cecil, Jr. age 80, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2006 in San Antonio, TX. He was born in Frederick, MD, lived in Fairfax, VA until July 1, 2005 when he moved to San Antonio.
Talmadge is survived by his wife of 39 years, Dolly; stepchildren, Sharon (Steve) Koenig, Elaine (Bob) Patenaude and Ron (JiJi) Pfleger; daughter Kay Fritz; grandchildren, Mona Cecil, Kristen (Anthony) Coffel, Brandon Bovey, Heather (Deny) Dos Santos and Ryan Pfleger; great grandchildren Owen and Cliff Dos Santos.

Sam Schwartzberg, M.D. was born October 10, 1906 in Austin, Texas. He entered rest on Thursday, May 11, 2006 at the age of 99 years. He was one of San Antonio’s first and foremost Allergists and a 1929 graduate of the University of Texas at Galveston Medical School, after which he did post graduate work in Vienna, Italy and New York University.
He came to San Antonio and interned at the Santa Rosa Hospital. For years he was Director of the Adult Allergy Clinic at Robert B. Green Hospital where he spent many years helping to train Allergists. He was a World War II veteran and flight surgeon at both Air Force Bases in Fort Worth and Laredo. Later he went to Chicago to study and specialize in Allergy. Additional training was done at Northwestern University Medical School and he was in the first national class of Board Certified Allergist.
Dr. Schwartzberg began his practice at the Nix Building in 1930. In 1977, he received the prestigious Award of Merit from the College of Allergists. “Dr. Sam”, as he was affectionately called, was a Member of the Downtown Rotary and Order of the Alamo and the Port Bay Hunting and Fishing Club of Rockport. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed/loved dancing and singing. Dr. Schwartzberg spent many hours and resources doing philanthropic work at the Robert B. Green Hospital including establishing, organizing, overseeing and working in its Allergy Clinic.
He was predeceased by both his first wife, Elizabeth Vienna Maverick and second wife, Anne Harley Ritter, and is survived by his son, Chilton Maverick; daughter-in-law, Harriette Rice Maverick; three grandchildren, Heather Maverick Rubsamen; her spouse, Rollins Schultz Rubsamen, Jr.; Kenneth Maverick, M.D., and wife, Amy Hoerr Maverick, M.D., and Samuel Brian Maverick and wife, Stefanie Seitz Maverick, DDS, all of San Antonio, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Brandon Maverick Rubsamen, Colton Maverick Rubsamen and Lauren Vienna Maverick; and his dearest friends and companions, Connie and Bob Langley. A special thanks to all of his wonderful, patient and tireless care givers over the last ten years: Elvira Perez, Sandra Becerra, Elizabeth Torres, Martha Escamilla, Ramona Servantez, Laura Urbina and Martha Maldin.

Camilla P. Fazio, loving mother and grandmother, passed away May 8, 2006, after a brief battle against cancer at the age of 88.
She was born January 26, 1918, in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, to Natalie and Dominica Plutino. She was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church Rosary Society, Los Amigos and Alter Society. Her greatest loves were her family, her friends and the kitchen where she created wonderful Italian dishes.
Camilla was preceded in death by parents and her beloved husband, Joseph Fazio. She is survived by her daughters, Donna Fazio Zayac, and Jo Ann Fazio Barr and husband, C. Allen Barr, Jr.; grandchildren, Kimberly and Justin Zayac; sisters, Mary Leppert, and Lena Williams and husband, Oscar; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

John Lary Kephart

John Lary Kephart, age 86, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at his home in San Antonio, Texas surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Amorita, Oklahoma on March 30, 1920 to the late John Hubert Kephart and Helen Josephine Lary.
Lary was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific.
He earned his B.S. degree from Oklahoma State University and went directly into the insurance business. He sold his agency in Oklahoma in 1958 and became manager of the Richard Gill Insurance Agency in San Antonio, Texas. Lary retired from Richard Gill Companies in 1974 as the senior Vice-President and established his own agency, Broadway Plaza Insurance Agency and remained active in the insurance business until his death.
Lary was an active member of the Alamo Heights United Methodist Church as head usher and member of the Administrative Board.
He was a member of the Alzafar Shrine and active in many national, state and local insurance associations and was President of the Texas Chapter of Certified Insurance Counselors as well as President of the Independent Insurance Agents of San Antonio.
Lary’s true gift was serving children tirelessly in the pediatric clinic at Methodist’s Children’s Hospital where he was a member of the Auxiliary Board of Directors of the Blue Birds.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Wanda; daughter, Lary Jo; and sons, James; Mark; Tom and wife, Amy, San Antonio, TX; Phil and wife, Debi, Austin, TX; and Gunnar and wife, Barbara, Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Ryan and Taylor Kephart; Johanna Kephart; Dawn and husband, Kerry Dean, Jr.; Heather and husband, Cole Hendrick; Alex and wife, Sabrina Kephart; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Henry; nephew, Joel and wife, Elizabeth Henry and their children, Brooks and Andrew; niece, Lari Jane Jackson and daughter, Laren.
The family would especially like to thank Dr. James R. O’Neill, Dr. Steven Kalter and the staff of VistaCare Hospice.

Capt. Ernesto M. Blanco-Caldas
Born in Hartford, Connecticut on Aug. 10, 1975

Capt. Ernesto M. Blanco-Caldas of San Antonio, TX age 28 was killed in action on December 28th 2003. He died in Iraq while performing a support mission with the 1-504 HHC scouts of the 82nd Airborne Division during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
An improvised explosive device hit his vehicle. Three of his fellow soldiers were wounded. Ernie had been in Iraq since September of the current year. He had also served in Afghanistan with the 82ndAirborne Division as a platoon leader, earning a Bronze Star. Ernie was a graduate of the Army’s Jumpmaster, Ranger and Airborne courses. He attended Infantry Officer training in Fort Benning, Georgia and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the year 2000. Ernie was a graduate of Texas A & M, Class of ’98, where he had been a member of the Corps of Cadets and was a Ross Volunteer.
He was a member of the 1993 graduating class of Churchill High School in San Antonio, Texas, his home of record since 1975. Ernie was a classically trained guitarist who loved Rock and Country music. He was a gifted singer and an excellent dancer. Ernie had a contagious smile, and whatever Ernie did, he did with great enthusiasm, humor, and total dedication. He was the finest son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, friend and companion a person could have and was looking forward to being the same as a husband.
Ernie was dedicated to his faith, his country, his family and his profession. A truly natural born leader, Ernie lived his life courageously, always looking out for others. Ernie was born in Hartford, Connecticut on the 10th of August of 1975.
He was raised in Puerto Rico, his parent’s birthplace. He is survived by his mother Gloria Caldas-Levine, his father, José M. Blanco; his sister, Carmen Pendergraff; his grandparents Joe and Lee Caldas; his nephew Trystan Pendergraff, and his fiancée, Michelle Sorrel. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Blaine Pendergraff; his step-father, Barry Levine; his step-mother, Taimi Blanco, and his aunts and uncles, Joanie and Dr. Jerry Maymi, Patricia and Dr. Rafael Santiago, José and Tamara Caldas.
He will be sorely missed by all including his eleven cousins; Natalie, Carlos, Mariel, Erika, Alec, Nicole, Christian, Jessica, Rachel, Javier, and two-month old Shoshana. Ernie, their eldest cousin, was a source of fun and inspiration. This is truly the passing of a great soul and spirit.

Richard Stephen Catanzaro

Richard Stephen Catanzaro passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2004 at the age of 49.
He was born in North Arlington, New Jersey and raised in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. Nine years ago he moved to San Antonio, Texas when he was recruited by H.E. Butt Grocery Company where he held the title Director of Seafood, Deli & Food Service Product Development, Procurement and Merchandising.
Rich headed up the Seafood department for H-E-B for nine years in which time he increased sales three times over.
He was an innovator in marketing seafood within the grocery store format and was responsible for numerous products that have become staples at the H-E-B chain.
Rich was an important part of the following organizations: National Fisheries Institute, Special Olympics (on behalf of H-E-B Seafood); he was a speaker for such events as the Texas A&M; Shrimp Summit, International Ground Fish Conference in Europe (Barcelona, Spain), National Shrimp Processors, International Shrimp Processors, testified before the International Trade Commission; he was a major supporter and promoter of the Gladys Porter Zoo, the Blessing of the Fleet, the Shrimporee, the Releasing of Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtles; and was a major contributor to such publications as "Seafood for Dummies" and "H-E-B's The Cooking Connection's Seafood Recipe Collection" as well as being involved with countless organizations worldwide throughout his 30 year career in the seafood industry.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Catanzaro; his daughter, Nina Catanzaro; and his son, Zachary Catanzaro. He is also survived by his mother, Nancy Catanzaro; his sisters, Connie Ewing and Nancy Walter; and his brother, Joseph Catanzaro.
Rich was well-respected and loved by everyone who knew him, and touched the lives of even those who didn't.
Pallbearers will be Zac Catanzaro, Craig Freels, Steve Harper, Geoff Stein, Dave Howitt, Bill Bonzheim, Bob Meyer, Bob Irons and Joe Catanzaro.

Betty G. Barth
Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Oct. 30, 1932

Betty G. Barth, age 73, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2006 in San Antonio, TX.
She was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on October 30, 1932.
Betty was preceded in death by husband, William Barth, parents, Christian and Minnie Oren, sister, Ruth Lloyd and brother, Alvin Oren.
She is survived by her daughters, Robin Carter of San Antonio, Cindy Hale and husband Darren of Pleasanton, and Cheryl Cox and husband Chris of Victoria; son, Christopher Barth and wife Tania of Austin; grandchildren, Bryan, Christopher, Heather, Bonnie and Cayla; and great grandson, Blake.

Hollis Orville French
Born in Waelder, Texas on Jul. 14, 1919

Hollis French, our dear husband and father has gone on to another world, where he, with clear eyes can see the fish jumping and hear with good ears the birds singing.
He was born November 14, 1919, near Waelder, Texas, where he attended school and spent his boyhood years. After graduating from school, he came to San Antonio.
He worked at the Fort Sam Houston PX until being drafted for World War II. When the war ended he returned to San Antonio, worked briefly in the hardware business, and then opened his cabinet shop on Basse Road where for 40-plus years he with his friend Bob, made many beautiful objects with wood.
He is survived by his wife Betty with minus 21 days being 60 years; his five daughters, Judy Riskind, Beth Steinle, Mary Raye, Melissa Mullen and Jennifer Spicer; five grandsons; six granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.
He was a good man who loved his family, his home and his God.

Lt. Col. Edward V. Johnson
Born in New Haven, CT on Feb. 2, 1932
Died Feb. 4, 2006 and resided in San Antonio, TX.

Lt. Col.Edward V. Johnson, USAF (Ret.) died on February 4th, 2006 at the age of 74. He was born in New Haven, Connecticut January 2, 1932. After graduating from Williston Academy, Hobart College and achieving a Masters Degree from Boston University School of Communications. Mr. Johnson joined the Air Force and served as a Public Relations Officer. He retired in San Antonio, Texas after 22 years in the service and continued to pursue public relations and became an avid sailor. He served as President of Easter Seal Rehabilitation Center, President of the Alamo Heights Optimist Club, Commodore of the Lake Canyon Yacht Club, and was currently chair of the Youth Sailing Foundation. Edward is survived by his wife Yvonne of 51 years, daughters, Elizabeth, Beryl and Jennifer; sons, Christopher and William, and grandchildren, Ian Johnson, Noah, Nathaniel and Emma Johnson, Charles Johnson, and Alex and Larsen Zambrano, and his sister, Karen Whyte of Ottawa, Canada and her daughter, Lise Van Stolk.
