B.W. “Bill” Adams

B.W. “Bill” Adams, longtime resident of April Sound, passed away at the age of 75. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marie; two children, Lisa Hartman of Houston and Kyle Adams of Corpus Christi; their respective spouses and five precious grandchildren.

Bill was from humble beginnings in Delta County, Texas and served in the United States Naval Service Coast Guard during World War II. Bill graduated with a business degree from, what is now, Texas A&M - Commerce.

Bill forged a stellar 39-year career with Shell Oil, retiring in 1988 as Assistant Controller. In retirement Bill’s strong call to leadership and service continued as he served the April Sound Church, April Sound Property Owner’s Association, Montgomery County Appraisal Review Board and the Lake Conroe Area Republican Party.

In 1998, Bill was inducted into the Founders Circle of Texas A&M - Commerce and in recent years he handled the prestigious responsibility of chairing the University Foundation Board.

Services for Bill Adams were held Jan. 28 at the April Sound Church in Montgomery, TX. A private interment was held at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.

William "ED" Edwin Massey I am a Veteran.
October 9, 1927 - October 18, 2011

William E. Massey “Ed”, born October 9, 1927 passed away on October 18, 2011 and went to heaven to be with his precious Lord and Savior. Born in Granbury, Texas, to parents W.R. Massey and Lottie (Terrell) Massey, he grew up in the Mansfield, TX area and served in the United States Army during WWII. He married his wife Vennie (Lytle) Massey on April 15, 1961. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone with more than 30 years with the company. Ed loved to watch the Dallas Cowboys, he liked VW Bugs and enjoyed his extensive clock collection. Ed was a very reserved and quiet man, but in his last few years came to love singing Karaoke, his favorite songs to sing were the old hymns Blessed Assurance and When The Roll is Called Up Yonder. Those are just things that he enjoyed, but that is not who Ed was as a man, he was a great provider for his family, he was a loving husband, and a daddy that was adored by his daughters. He was kind, gentle, sweet, loving man who loved the Lord. His two daughters can never express their gratitude for his love and support of them all his years and the great role model he was to them both. The Lord blessed this family with the greatest daddy and husband there ever could have been. Ed was preceded in death by his parents W.R. & Lottie Massey; two of his brothers, Raymond Massey and Wayne “Red” Massey. He is survived by his wife Vennie Massey of Plano, Texas; daughter Melody Massey of Plano, Texas; daughter Denise Massey of Plano, TX; brother Clarence Massey of San Antonio, Texas.

The funeral will be held at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South in Abilene, Texas on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 2pm and will be officiated by Rev. Belinda Blessen.
Memorials may be made to the Dallas Area Parkinsonism Society, 6370 LBJ Freeway, Suite 176, Dallas, Texas 75240.

Billie Sue Scott
April 3, 1936 - October 17, 2011

Billie Sue (Pitt) Scott, age 75, of Abilene, Texas, passed away on October 17, 2011.

She graduated from Abilene High School and attended voice classes at Hardin Simmons University. She was a very talented and gifted singer who received many awards and much recognition. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Minnie Pitt, and was the beloved wife of Cal Scott for more than 50 years. Billie touched the lives of many people with her music, a smile that could light up any darkness, and her generosity. She grew up the daughter of a Baptist minister and continued her father’s ministry by sharing her love of Jesus through many new and old hymns. She also loved to play the piano, laugh, cook, entertain, paint, spend time and have fun with her family and friends.

She will forever be remembered by her loving husband, Cal; and four devoted children, Sue Scott of Little Rock, AK, Mark Haile (Liz) of Portland, OR, Callie Scott Woosley (Sparky) of Nashville, TN, and Tracye Scott Ramelot (Duane) of Abilene, TX; eight treasured grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Billy Scott.

Pallbearers are: Sparky Woosley, Brian Scott Roberts, Trevor Ramelot, Rio Ramelot, Duane Ramelot, and Justin Provost.

Friends and family are invited to attend services on Friday, October 21, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, Texas. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Special thank you to Drs. Anton Melnyk, John Wray, and James Wray. Baack’s Florist will direct floral arrangements for the family. The family requests all donations are sent to the wonderful people who gave such wonderful care for Billie in her time of need at Hendrick Hospice Care, 1682 Hickory, Abilene, Texas 79601.

Wanda Van Zandt Smith
October 6, 1928 - September 26, 2011

Wanda L. Van Zandt Smith, 82 passed away Monday, September 26, 2011 in Katy, TX. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Friday, September 30, 2011 at Elmwood Funeral Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, TX. Interment will follow the service at Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday, September 29, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home.

Wanda was born October 6, 1928 in Zephyr, TX and later moved to Abilene, TX. Wanda graduated from Abilene High School and attended Abilene Christian University where she met the love of her life, William Branch Smith. The couple married in 1947 and lived in various locations in Texas before retiring in Houston, TX. Wanda was a homemaker and a devoted mother to her three children. Wanda was a member of Westbury Church of Christ in Houston, TX.

Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, William Branch Smith; son, William Patrick Smith; parents, Raymond and May Van Zandt; mother and father-in-law, Lorah and W.C. Smith and sister, Barbara Williams.

Wanda is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Joseph Pechacek of Katy, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Mike Strawn of Lubbock, TX; brother, Kenneth R. Van Zandt, Houston, TX; sister, Lanelle Maner of Mesa, AZ; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Dawn M. and Peter Lopez of Katy, TX; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Peter V. and Elaine Pechacek of Orlando, FL; two great granddaughters, Amber and Mia and two great grandsons, Christian and Mason; sisters-in-law, Amelia and Elaine Smith of College Station, TX and Gwendell Clemmer of Merkel, TX; brothers-in-law, Bill Williams of Albuquerque, NM and Larry Maner of Mesa, AZ; nephews, Dr. Scott Van Zandt, Mark Clemmer, Gary Williams, Jon Smith, Chris Smith, Ronald, James and David Richey; nieces, Kathy Thomas, Rachel Smith, Teresa Wheeler, Beth and Becky Williams, Cindy Fischer and Karen Juarez; and several nieces and nephews in-law and great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Tuscany Living nursing staff for their love and daily devotion to Wanda’s care during the past several months. In lieu of flowers memorial donations are suggested to The Alzheimer’s Association, https://act.alz.org or charity of choice.

Charles "Chuck" Billy Griffin
April 24, 1927 - September 29, 2011

Charles B. Griffin, 84, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2011, in Abilene. Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, October 3, 2011 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation for family and friends is from 3 – 5 PM on Sunday, October 2, 2011, at Elmwood Funeral Home.

Charles was born on April 24, 1927, in Clarksville, TX to Albertie Lindsey and Gordon Onest Griffin. He graduated from high school in Clarksville and later married the love of his life, Beryl G Goymuer in 1955. He joined the United States Air Force which led him all over the world serving in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. After 26 years he retired as a SMSGT, then went on to obtain 2 associates degrees from Cisco Junior College. He later retired from the Taylor County Sheriff’s Department and the Justice Court Judge of Taylor County. Anyone close to Charles knew “Loyalty above all else except honor”.

Charles is survived by his wife, Beryl G Griffin; his children, Gail Smith and husband Johnny of VA, Anita Deppe and husband Earl of CA, Marjorie Callaway of CA, and Bill Griffin of Abilene; his grandchildren, Jason and Mark Smith, Devon and Amanda Griffin, Michael and Stephen Deppe; numerous great-grand children.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Harold Dean Griffin.

Marianne Aucoin
July 15, 1930 - October 12, 2011

Marianne Aucoin, 81, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2011 in Abilene. A private family service is planned under the direction of Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South.

Marianne was born in Germany on July 15, 1930. She met John H. Aucoin while he was stationed in Germany during WWII and shortly after they were married. Shortly after coming to America, Marianne became an American citizen and has been an Abilene resident since 1966. She was a homemaker and enjoyed working in her yard and playing the lottery and bingo.

Survivors include her daughters, Sally Frederick and husband Jake and Mary Angermueller and husband Hans all of Abilene; and two sisters of Washington.

Her husband, a daughter, Sylvia Minor and one granddaughter preceded her in death.

In honor of Marianne’s great love of all animals, memorial donations are suggested to the Talylor-Jones Humane Society (TJHS), 2301 N. 3rd, Abilene, Texas 79603

Robert Charles Beaird
March 14, 1936 - October 14, 2011

Robert Charles “Charlie” Beaird, 75, passed away Friday, October 14, 2011 in Abilene. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, October 17, 2011 in the Memorial Lawn section of Elmwood Memorial Park.

Charlie was born in Potosi on March 14, 1936 the son of James Howard Beaird and Emily Estelle Bockman Beaird. He graduated from Merkel High School and later served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Louise Newton on March 14, 1961. Charlie worked as a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service for over 30 years. He was a talented wood carver, an avid knife collector, enjoyed watching western movies and most recently enjoyed being involved with the Merkel Area Historical Museum. He was a long time member of the First Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include his son, Steve Beaird and wife Melissa of Abilene; two grandsons, James and Greg Beaird of Abilene; his brother, Billy Beaird and wife Virginia of Baird; his sister, Linda Beaird Emerson and husband Jimmie of Merkel; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His parents, his daughter, Nancy Elaine Beaird, his wife, Louise and his brothers, James M. Beaird and Gary Lynn Beaird preceded him in death.

Memorial donations are suggested to Merkel Area Historical Museum, 1501 N. 7th Street, Merkel, TX 79536

Kris Ross
September 3, 1970 - October 9, 2011

October 9, 2011, Kris Ross went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after a long hard battle against cancer. Her funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, October 13, 2011, at First Baptist Church, 1333 N 3rd. Visitation for family and friends will be 6 to 8 PM, Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Interment will follow the service at Elmwood Memorial Park.

Kristine Michelle Lane Ross was born on September 3, 1970, in Austin, TX to Gerald and Martha Lane. Kris grew up in Congress Avenue Baptist Church where she accepted Christ at an early age. She was a 1989 graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches. Kris was an active member in Alpha Chi Omega Sorority where she touched many lives while there. Kris enjoyed teaching children and taught in Humble and Ozona Texas. After teaching she went on to become a public relations representative for AARP. On January 31, 1998, Kris married Todd Ross in Austin, Texas and they have enjoyed thirteen years of marriage.

Kris was an inspiration to all that knew her. She was the best mommy, wife, friend, and warrior that our Lord put on this earth. Kris was a strong Christian and instilled those beliefs and teachings into her children on a daily basis. Her dedication and work ethic was evident in her desire to help. She loved her church family and was a member of First Baptist Church where she served as a Preschool Advisory Committee member, GA Leader, Children’s Choir volunteer, and Sunday School teacher. Her desire to serve her community was also evident in her work as Junior League volunteer, Make-A-Wish Foundation chairman, Children’s Performing Arts board member, Cancer Society board member, library volunteer, Wylie PTO member, and homeroom mom for her children. “There was always a smile, a word, a hug, or a look to help us along our path”. She was a constant support and steady rock for her parents during their own times of health needs. In her last weeks she struggled to hide her pain as she was worried about Lane, Halden, and Sloane. Kris just wanted to be mommy and love on her wonderful children and family.

Kris is survived by her husband, Todd; her three children, Lane, Halden, and Sloane; her mother, Martha Lane of Abilene; one sister and brother-in-law, John and Denise White of Austin; two nieces, Kathryn and Elizabeth White.

Kris was preceded in death by her father, W. Gerald Lane.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial donations be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, PO Box 650309 Dallas, TX 75265-0309 (ww5.komen.org) or Team Ross Fund at Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union, PO Box 5706 Abilene, TX 79608.
