Arvella Houston

Funeral services for Arvella Houston, 93, of Glen Flora, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Camp Zion Rising Star Baptist Church with Rev. C.E. McWashington officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Zion Cemetery. Visitation
will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday. She was a lifelong resident of Wharton County and a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church. Mrs. Houston was born July 4, 1913, in Wharton to George and
Annie Anderson Aldridge Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Houston; parents; brothers, James Aldridge, Garvie Aldridge and Jessie Aldridge; and sister, Frances Owens.

Survivors include sisters, Annie Mae Frier, Ruby Lee Davis, Willie Mae Aldridge and Minnie Marie Perkins, all of Glen Flora; brothers, Marvin Aldridge and George Aldridge, both of Glen Flora.

Amalia Mitchell

Amalia “Molly” Sonka Mitchell passed peacefully with many family members at her side on Feb. 18, 2007, in Victoria. She was born in Rivera on March 9,1928, to immigrant parents Julianna Schmid and Josef W. Sonka.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Norman Galle Sr. and W.J. “Lefty” Mitchell; son, Norman H. Galle Jr.; as well as her sisters, Julia Pearson, Henrietta Glick and Maggie Krohn; and her brothers, Emil, Joe, Odie and Carl Sonka.

Mrs. Mitchell is survived by her sister, Mary Williams of Las Vegas, Nev.; children, daughter Kathryn and husband Jimmy Cockroft of Buton and her son, L.W. “Buster” and wife Carolyn Mitchell of Glen Flora. She leaves behind her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Todd Galle and children Jacob and Jordon of Seguin; Bart and Jen Galle of Austin. Also, Tommy and Melaina Cockroft and son Case of Rosharon; Clint and Laura Mitchell and daughter Alexandra of San
Antonio; Wade Mitchell and her only granddaughter Keely Mitchell of Glen Flora.

Her life was lived to the fullest in Matagorda County. Molly B. and Lefty owned several businesses in Bay City throughout their 37 years together. She was a woman of many talents and diverse interests having worn many hats, from rodeos to trucking.

Mrs. Mitchell lived her life with gusto, strength and knowledge. She stepped beyond the typical female boundries. She could overhaul a motor, run a trot line
and hunted and shot pool with the best of them. An avid camper and storyteller, she enjoyed competing in local barbecue cook offs with her longtime companion Slim Hassel, often winning wiht her beans.

Her faith and character marked her near 79 years on Earth. Mrs. Mitchell had a favorite verse: Romans 8:38 to 39 “For I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels ... nor anything else in all
creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, at Wheeler Funeral Home at 612 Jackson St. in El Campo. Church services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church, 205 W. West St. in El Campo with lunch and fellowship to follow. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. at Hawley Cemetery near Blessing on Highway 35. Arrangements are under the direction of Wheeler Funeral Home in El Campo.

Dolores Rachunek

Dolores Ann Rachunek, age 72, of Wharton, died Sunday, Feb.18, 2007, at her residence following an extended illness. She was born on Oct. 25, 1934, in Orchard, daughter of the late Mike Drymala and Annie Trojanowski Drymala.

Mrs. Rachunek was reared in Orchard where she attended school and later graduated from Lamar Consolidated High School in Rosenberg. She married Edward
Adolph Rachunek on Oct. 17,1953, in Rosenberg and he preceded her in death on Nov.1, 2003.

Mrs. Rachunek was employed as a bank teller for moe than 40 years with Wharton Bank and Trust Company and most recently Prosperity Bank until her retirement in 2003. She continued to
work part time after her retirement and was currently working until she became ill. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters
of America, the Old Bags Bunco Group and the Red Hat Society.

Mrs. Rachunek enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling with her family, playing cards on her computer and spending time with her four granddaughters.

Funeral mass services will be held 10:30 a.m. today, Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007, at Holy Family Catholic Church with Monsignor Gene Frances officiating
with concelebrants Rev. Dominic Antwi-Boasiako and Rev. Henry Rachunek. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery in Hungerford. Rosary services were held Tuesday evening at Wharton
Funeral Home.

Survivors include her daughter, Jackie Douglas and husband, Larry, of Wharton; granddaughters, Cindy, Candice, Lauren and Katelyn Douglas; sisters, Helen
Janda of Sealy, Mary Vicenek of Sealy, Theresa Nowak of Rosenberg; brothers, Joe Drymala and wife, Lucy, of Comfort and Florian Drymala and wife, Pat, of
Rosenberg.

Pallbearers are brother-in-law Richard Rachunek and nephews Dennis Rachunek, Donnie Nowak, Gary Nowak, Lawrence Kubiak and Patrick Andel.

Honorary pallbearers are her Red Hat Society sisters and the Old Bags Bunco ladies.

A special thanks to Kellye Rachunek, niece; Annie Cash, her caregiver; Joe Hochman, hospice nurse; for all of their love and support during Dolores illness.

Anna Roller

Graveside services for Anna Queen Roller, 88, of El Campo, will be held at 1 p.m. at the El Campo Community Cemetery.

Mrs. Roller died Feb. 10, 2007,at Garden Villa Nursing Home in El Campo. She was born March 20, 1918.

Survivors include her sister-in-law,

Carrie Marks

Funeral services for Carrie Marks will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. E. Gillis officiating. Burial will follow in New Prosperity Cemetery. Visitation will be form 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday.

Mrs. Marks died March 2, 2007, at El Campo Memorial Hospital. She was born Aug. 25, 1954, in Wharton to Luther and Addie B. Johnson Taylor.

Survivors include husband, John Marks Jr. of Glen Flora; son, John Marks III of Glen Flora; daughter, Chasity Marks of Glen Flora; brother, Patrick Taylor of Houston; sisters, Mary Johnson, Henritta Lathon, Sherry Johnson, Debra Thompson, Wanda Taylor and Marsha Johnson, all of Wharton, and Tamkka Taylor of Stafford.

Erika Parson

Graveside services for infant Erika Deshay Parson, age 1 month, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Bowedn Cemetery with Rev. B.B. Willis officiating.

Erika died March 4, 2007, at Gulf Coast Medical Center. She was born Jan. 5, 2007, to Erik and Latasha Norman Parson.
Survivors include mother, Latasha Norman; father, Erick Parson; brothers, Vernon Wayne Jackson Jr., Datreon Norman and Erik Desean Parson, all of Wharton; sisters, La Sandra Sharnea Parson, Ebony Jacolle Jackson and Angel Jackson, all of Wharton.

Lillie Robinson

Funeral services for Lillie Mae Robinson, 78, of Wharton, will be held at 1 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephen’s Baptist Church with Rev. J. Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Wharton City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday.

Mrs. Robinson died at her home on March 3, 2007. She was born April 8, 1928, in Thornton to Willie James and Viola Willoughby Sherman.

Survivors include son, James Arthur Robinson of Wharton; daughters, Bobbie J. Robinson and Madlene Murray, both of El Campo, Peggy Christopher of Houston, Glenda F. Jones and Deborah K. Robinson of Wharton; sister, Josephine Davenport of Wharton; 10 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Rosie Marik

Funeral Mass for Rosie Marik, 89, of East Bernard, was held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 4, 2007, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard. Interment followed at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in East Bernard. Rev. Don Ruppert officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2007, at Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Mrs. Marik was born on Aug. 30, 1917, in East Bernard to Fred and Albina Kubena Fojtik. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and KJZT.

Mrs. Marik loved to cook homemade soups and kolaches. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, raising her chickens, dancing to polka music and adding to her rock collection.

She took care of many children who called her “Granny Rose.” Mrs. Marik always made sure she was available for her family and to watch her grandchildren.

She passed away on April 30, 2007, in Houston.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ed Marik; her parents, Albina Kubena and Fred Fojtik; brothers, George and Bill Fojtik; sisters, Lydia Kubena and Albina Tallas and her favorite companion, her dog, Snoopy.

She is survived by her children, Bennie and Angeline Marik of East Bernard, Lucille and George Bayer of Rosenberg, Bernadette and Pete Kovar of East Bernard, Irene and Edwin Janik of East Bernard, Rick and JoAnn Marik of El Campo and Marion James and Nancy Marik of Green River, Wy.; brother, Fred Fojtik; sisters, Helen Kieke, Margaret Petter, Mary Jochec and Annie Melnar; 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; along with many other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Jeff Kovar, Jason Janik, Eric Janik, Justin Tielke, Robert Bayer, Kenneth Bayer and Lindsey Marik.

Mildred Jackson

Funeral services for Mildred Lillie Jackson, 86, of Wharton, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at East Gate New Prosperity Baptist Church with Rev. R. Taylor III officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Wednesday. Friends may call after 1 p.m. today.

Mrs. Jackson died April 28, 2007, at Avalon Place. She was born July 28, 1920, in Wharton to George Washington and Hattie Haynes Runnels.

Survivors include brothers, Booker T. Runnels of El Campo; sister, Idella Runnels of Wharton; three grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Carol Laney

Carol Ann “Nan” Laney, 58, of Wharton, died April 30, 2007, in a Wharton nursing home following an extended illness. She was born Aug. 2, 1948, in Wharton, the daughter of the late James Robert Rittenberry Sr. and Gwyneth Faye McCarson Rittenberry.

Mrs. Laney had been a resident of Wharton for the past two months and was a former resident of Willis and Huntsville. She worked as a correctional guard for the Texas Department of Corrections and was Baptist by faith. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, James Robert Rittenberry Jr.

Survivors include her daughters, Katherine Murphy and Gwyneth Teves, both of Bay City; son, Josh Laney of Houston; sister, Katherine Ward of Round Rock; and three grandchildren.

In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to Hospice Support, Inc., P.O. Box 1417, El Campo, TX 77437.

Gertrude Macha

Gertrude E. Macha of Houston died April 28, 2007, at the age of 78. She was born Aug. 5, 1928, in Galveston to the late Charles and Josephine Butler.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Elk’s Lodge No. 151 Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Bennie Macha of Houston; son Michael Macha and wife Diane and their son Anthony; daughter, Cynthia Macha and her daughter Elia, all of Houston; brothers, retired major Christopher Butler and wife Lynn of Hitchcock and C.J. Butler of Galveston.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, May 3, 2007, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Stafford. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at St. John Catholic Cemetery in Hungerford.

Serving as pallbearers are Sidney Hanslik, Larry Frank, Tim Newton, Jason Watson, Kyle Landwehr and James Svajda.
Arrangements are under the direction of Triska Funeral Home of El Campo.
