Emory Jasper, 5, is Victim of the Flu
Services Held at Montague Church Saturday Afternoon for son of Sid Jasper.
Emery, five-year-old son of Sid Jasper of this city died at his home at 4 o'clock Saturday morning, following three week's illness of influenza.
Rev. R. E. Griffin, pastor of the Church of Christ at Humble, conducted
funeral services at Montague church at 3:30 Saturday afternoon and interment was made in Montague cemetery, beside that of his mother, who preceded him in death July 12, of last year.
Besides his father the little fellow is survived by a little brother, Herman
Sidney and a little sister, Betty Jean, two half sisters, Miss Rosalie Jasper
and Mrs. Bess May Stevens all of Cleveland, and his grandmother, Mrs. D. A. Thomas of Livingston.

Richard Nelson Hughes
Last Rites Are For Richard Nelson Hughes

Funeral service for Richard Nelson Hughes, 74, who died at his home near Livingston early Saturday morning, were held at 4:30 Saturday afternoon at the First Baptist Church. Rev. W. B. Wadsworth and Rev. A. E. Riemann officiated. Interment was at Forest Hill cemetery.

Mr. Hughes was born in Alabama but had been a resident of Livingston for many years. He is survived by five daughters, Mrs. R. O. Cherry, New Waverly; Mrs. J. P. Lovett, Juneau, Alaska; Mrs. Ed Thomas, Livingston; Mrs. L. Z. Bean, Houston; and Miss Nellie Jewel Hughes, Livingston.

Pace-Stancil Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Death Claims Mrs. Cara Bell Hughes
Funeral Service is Conducted At First Baptist Church
Mrs. Cara Belle Hughes, wife of R. N. Hughes, died in a local hospital at 1 o’clock Wednesday morning. She had been ill with pneumonia for only a few days.
The funeral was scheduled for 3 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at the First Baptist church, Rev. W. B. Wadsworth, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial was to be at Forest Hill cemetery. Funeral arrangements were in charge of the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hughes, who was 66 years of age, was born in South Carolina, December 31, 1869. She came to Texas many years ago, living for a number of years in Montgomery County. She and Mr. Hughes came to Livingston when it was quite small and their home seemed very far out in the country. Mr. Hughes has been in poor health for some time.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Hughes is survived by two sons, Eddie and Pat Hughes, both of Livingston, and five daughters, Mrs. Florence Cherry of Conroe, Mrs. Maggie Lovett of Alaska, Mrs. Blanch Thomas of Marston, Mrs. Mabel Bean of Houston, and Miss Nella Jewel Hughes of Livingston.

Mr. John Carraway Hubbard
This writer shall miss the smiling face and friendly greetings of his good friend, Mr. J. C. Hubbard.
For some weeks Mr. Hubbard has been ill and it was last Saturday, November 25, news reached us that he had answered the final summons.
Mr. Hubbard was one of the many settlers in this section who came from Mississippi. He was born at Grenada, Mississippi, on January 9, 1857, and moved to Panola County where he was married to Miss Marguerite La Vina Bell in December 1879. To this union was born 4 sons and one daughter. He moved to Texas in 1889, settling in Angelina County. His wife died two years
later. On January 6, 1895 he was married to Miss Tallie Ann Sims and in this union was born seven daughters and two sons. One son and two daughters preceded him in death.Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist Church in Corrigan, where he was a member, Sunday afternoon, Rev. S. E. Harry assisted by Rev. D. Townes Windham officiating. Interment was at the Moffett cemetery near Lufkin, services at the grave being in charge of the Corrigan Lodge 1003 A.F. & A. M.
Thus gives a brief sketch of the life and death of a good citizen and true friend. He will be sadly missed by his multitude of friends and we sincerely sympathize with his family in their sad hour.

William Bruce Hendrix
W. B. Hendrix Funeral Today
Livingston, Dec. 9 (1952) -- Funeral services for William B. Hendrix, retired farmer who died in his home here Monday, will be held at 2 PM Wednesday in the Pace Funeral Home Chapel.
Services will be conducted by Rev. Arthur Davis and the Rev. J. C. Cole. Burial will be in the Menard Chapel cemetery.
A resident of Polk County 50 years, he is survived by his widow, Mrs. Pearl Hendrix; two daughters, Mrs. Alberta Lindsay of Baton Rouge, LA and Mrs. Evelyn Whisenhunt of Livingston; four sons, Bergman and A. C. Hendrix of Houston, L. B. Hendrix of Nederland and V. A. Hendrix of Beaumont; one step-daughter, Mrs. Quincy Kervin of Livingston; three step-sons Peyton, Harley and Oree Bailey of Livingston; three brothers, Ben Hendrix of Beaumont, Tom of Saratoga, and Lee of Sour Lake; two sisters, Mrs. Mattie Herrington of Moss Hill and Mrs. Martha Salter of Mont Belview, 30 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

John Solomon Gay
Life Long Resident Passes Away At Family Residence
Funeral services for John Solomon Gay were held Thursday morning from the Holly Grove Church with Bro. Richard Colina officiating.
Interment followed in Holly Grove cemetery.
Mr. Gay was born in Polk County and passed away in the family residence on Tuesday, July 17, 1951, after a brief illness. Mr Gay was a life-long resident of Polk County and was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Virgie Pear Gay, parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Gay, two daughters, Mrs Elphia Williams of Highlands, Texas and Mrs. Trudie Weeks of Beaumont, Texas, three sons, Bronson Gay of Beaumont, Hester Gay of Houston and Raymond Gay of Rio Grande City, Texas. Six brothers, Roy, Willie, Ben, Jimmie, Lewis, and Urias, one sister, Mrs. Alma Underwood and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers were his nephews: Ellery Jones, Billy Kervin, Ton Gay, Perry Richardson, Jack Richardson, and Brady White.

Mrs. Leornora Helen Stevens Garvey
Mrs. Lenora Garvey Buried November 4th.
"Mrs. Leornora Helen Stevens Garvey passed away at the age of 72 on Nov. 3, 1946, at the family residence in Livingston following a lingering illness. Mrs. Garvey was born Dec. 6, 1873, in Chambers County, and came to Polk County when an infant, where she resided continuously since that time. Her mother, Mrs. Leorora Helen Stevens, passed away when Mrs.Garvey was three days of age and she was brought to Livingston by her father, Osburn Stevens, where she was reared by her aunt, Mrs. Georgia Ann Sprott.
The deceased was a member of the First Methodist church of Livingston and also a member of the Methodist Missionary Society of that church. She joined the church in her early youth and was an active worker in the Methodist church up to the time that her health failed several years ago.
Funeral services were held at the family residence in Livingston at 3 p. m., Nov. 4, 1946.

Adam B. Garvey
A. B. Garvey, a life long resident of Polk County, died at his home in Livingston Wednesday morning following a brief illness.
Mr. Garvey has been in poor health for several months, and suffered from a heart ailment. However his condition did not become serious until about three weeks ago, when the doctor instructed him to remain in bed.
Funeral services have been announced for 2 o'clock on Thursday, February 4 at the residence, with the Masonic Lodge in charge at the grave. Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery.
Mr. Garvey was born June 12, 1870, near Elwood. He was a member of the Methodist Church, and served as superintenent of the Sunday School, and was chairman of the board of stewards for many years.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Woodmen of the World.
Mr. Garvey had been engaged in the abstract business in Livingston since 1923. Before that time he was a farmer and surveyor. He was chairman of the draft board in World War I, and served as president of the school board for a number of years. He was also a member of the city council several years ago.
Survivors are his wife' four daughters, Mrs. H. R. Lively, and Mrs. M. S. Jackson of Houston, Mrs. Ray Brock and Mrs. J. M. Hooks of Livingston; one son, O. C. Garvey of Houston; and one sister, Mrs Allie Bean of Livingston, Also nine grandchildren and one great grand child.

Cpl Paul Galloway
Polk County Man Is Killed in Italy
War Dept Sends Message of Death of Cpl Paul Galloway
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey D. Galloway recieved a message Friday from the War Department stating that their son, Cpl Paul Galloway, 28, had died of wounds March 8 in Italy. They recieved a letter from him Monday, written March 7, in which he said that he was all right, and for them not to worry about him.
Cpl Galloway had been in service since March 5, 1942 and over-seas since August of the same year. He received his training at Camp Hulen, Palacios, took part in the North African and Sicilian campaigns, the Anzio landing and was with the Fifth Army in northern Italy when killed.
Besides his parents, he is survived by two brothers: D. Mack Galloway, U.S. Navy in the Pacific and Victor Galloway of Houston.

R. P. Foreman
Ex-Officer Foreman Dies at 82
Ransom Parson Hill Foreman, pioneer Texas sheriff, land banker and real estate man and father of five Houstonians, one of them Attorney Percy Foreman, died Saturday in Livingston after a long illness.
Mr. Foreman would have been 83 in March. A tall, robust man with a full head of handsome gray hair, he had been in excellent health until a few months ago when his heart began to go bad. He had been confined to his bed for about two months.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. William Pinckney Rogers Foreman; five sons, Zemmie L. Foreman of Livingston and Percy, Hill, Keith, and Hugh Foreman of Houston; two daughters, Mrs. P. R. Rowe Jr. of Houston and Mrs. Alvis A. Ward of Encino, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Emma Hoover of Mexia and a number of grandchildren.
Both Mr. Foreman and his widow came from old Texas families. Mr. Foreman's father, Zemmie Foreman, and Mrs.Foreman's father, William Pinckney Rogers, after whom she is named, were both officers in Hood's Texas Brigade during the Civil War.
Mr. Foreman was born in Limestone County and moved to Polk County when he was 19. He lived at Carmona, Livingston and Camden before moving again to Livingston, where he lived the last 41 years of his life in a stately old white house.
Mr. Foreman served 10 years as sheriff of Polk County, from 1908 to 1918, and was for a number of years the secretary of the Federal Land Bank there before going into the real estate business.
He was a deacon in Livingston's Central Baptist Church and was active in the Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star.
The Widow, a native of Polk County, is 79. She and Mr. Foreman celebrated their fifty-ninth wedding anniversary on Dec.10.
Besides the seven children who survive them, the Foremans had three other children. One was Mrs. Fred Mauritz, for many years super- intendent of schools in Sugar Land and Ganado, who died in childbirth in 1932. There were also two boys who died at early ages.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Central Baptist Church in Livingston. The Rev. Ben H. Wellmaker, pastor of the Central Baptist Church, and the Rev. W. B. Wadsworth, pastor of Livingston's First Baptist Church, will officiate. It will be a Masonic funeral, with burial in the Forest Hill cemetery in Livingston. Members of Mr. Foreman's Sunday School class will be honorary pallbearers.
Percy Forman named his four-year-old son William P. R. Foreman III after his mother.
