H. B. Davis Sr.
Livingston, April 13, 1950 - Funeral services for Harry Beamon Davis Sr., 78, who had lived in Livingston since 1903, will be held at 2 PM Friday at the Central Baptist Church here with the Rev. Ben H. Welmaker, pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. Leroy Condrey, pastor of the First Methodist Church.
MR. DAVIS died of a heart attack early Thursday morning [April 13, 1950] in a local hospital.
He was stricken Sunday afternoon at his home and was taken to the hospital Tuesday.
He was born Nov. 15, 1871, near Montgomery, Ala., in Crenshaw County. He was married to Miss Edith Oldham in Fort Worth Nov. 3, 1897.
They observed their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 1947.
He owned and operated a dry goods store in the same location since coming to Livingston.
His son, H. B. Davis, Jr. recently became an associate with his father and the business is now known as H. B. Davis and Son Dry Goods.
Mr. Davis was a member of the Central Baptist Church. He served as deacon of this church for 50 years and was at the time of his death church clerk and a senior deacon.
HE SERVED as school trustee for many years, holding the office of president and of secretary during the time.
Surviving are his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Claude R. Vincent of Wharton and Mrs. Leo H. Davis of Livingston; three sons, H. B. Davis Jr. of Livingston, Joe G. Davis of Huntsville, and Rev. Milton O. Davis of Kerens; four sisters, Mrs. Ella Brogdon of South Pasadena, Calif., Mrs. Fannie Fuqua of Shiro, Mrs. Callie Kennard of Navasota and Mrs. Tom Spell of Shiro; one brother, W. S. Davis of Spiro and 10 grandchildren.
Burial will be in the Forest Hill cemetery. Funeral arrangements will be directed by Pace Funeral Home.

Robert Earl Cochran
Services are Held For Earl Cochran
Funeral services for Earl Cochran, 29, who was killed late Monday in an automobile accident near Arkadelphia, Arkansas were held Wednesday afternoon at the Baptist Church, Rev. R. A. Clifton officiating. Interment was in Forest Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers were Sam Maroney Jr., S. M. Pitts, Hubert Collins, J. E. Norwood Jr. and Talmadge Behannon of Lufkin and J. W. Mitchell of Camilla.
In company with his brother, Louis, and a friend, Mr. Cochran was on his way home from Hot Springs.
It was said that when the party was about 15 miles from Arkadelphia the car struck a rock in such a way as to cause it to skid suddenly to the side, the becoming overbalanced it turned over.
Pinned between the steering wheel and the body of the automobile, Earl was crushed, and lived for only a short time.
Neither of the other two men were seriously hurt.
The body arrived on the north bound train at 11:30 Wednesday and was taken to the home of Mrs. Ella Gerlach, an aunt, where it remained in state until the hour of the funeral.
Robert Earl Cochran was born in Livingston September 17, 1901. He attended public school here and later was a student at San Marcus academy.
From there he wnt to Rusk College where he finished his education.
He was formerly agent in Polk County for the Texas Company, going from here to Camden, Arkansas and then to Arkadelphia at both of which places he had charge of the Texas Company agency.
Survivors are his father, N. J. Cochran, two brothers, Jack and Louis and a foster sister, Mrs. J. M. Shepherd of Galveston, formerly Mess Rosalie Smith.

Mrs. Mamie Rose Cochran

Mrs. N. J. Cochran Dies Suddenly In Jasper Hospital
Mrs. Mamie Rose Cochran, wife of N. J. Cochran and one of the best loved women in Livingston, died last Saturday morning at a sanitarium in Jasper.
Death resulted form paralysis, caused by internal infection.
Mrs. Cochran was 54 years of age at the time of death.
About 10 days ago she went to Jasper to continue with some work she had begun before the holidays in the capacity of district deputy Woodmen Circles.
She was not feeling well when she left, but was not taken seriously ill until last Friday, when relatives were advised of her condition and hastened to her.
News of the passing of Mrs. Cochran brought sorrow to all Livingston, for her life was on of devoted service and her friends were many.
She had been an active church worker for 40 years and had also been always ready to rally to the call of schools, the Parent-Teacher Association, any worth-while civic enterprise, or any needy family of individual.
One of the largest crowds that have ever assembled in Livingston gathered at the Central Baptist Church Sunday afternoon to pay their last tribute to Mrs. Cochran. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. Friends remarked how fitting it was that she who in life so loved brightness and beauty should have had at the end so many bright-hued flowers about her.
Rev. R. A. Clifton conducted the funeral services paying tribute to Mrs. Cochran's eagerness to serve others, her devotion to the church, her habit of creating beauty where drabness had existed, and her consecrated service as a mother.
"Mrs. Cochran was a big-hearted woman, " the minister said, "a woman who was always ready to speak a kind word and bring help to those in trouble."
Burial was in Forest Hill cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Mrs. Cochran's nephews; Edwin and Frank Gerlach, Ernest, Carey, Truman and W. S. Cochran.
Mrs. Mamie Rose Cochran was born in Memphis Tennessee. When she was six months old, her parents moved to Polk county and here practically all of her life has been spent. She was a teacher for a number of years in Livingston and various rural schools of Polk county.
In 1902 she was married to N. J. Cochran.
Since childhood Mrs. Cochran had been a lover of beauty and an artist.
She was fond of painting and enjoyed making water color sketches for those whom she loved or to be used in some worthy cause.
She had her painting materials with her at Jasper at the time of her death.
She was also a lover of good literature and had her memory stored with treasures from the poets and from the Bible.
Mrs. Cochran is survived by her husband; three sons, Earl of Camden, Ark; Louis of Pecos, and Jack a student in Stephen F. Austin college at Nacogdoches; an adopted daughter, Mrs. J. M. Shepherd of Galveston and one sister, Mrs. Louis Gerlach.

Jesse James Cain
Local Man Dies in Houston Hospital: Buried Near Here
Jesse James Cain, 46, son of Mrs. Mollie Miller Martin of Livingston, passed away in a Houston Hospital, Monday March 28, 1949.
Burial services were in Magnolia cemetery near Livingston under the direction of Heights Funeral Home, Houston.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Esther Cain, a daughter, Joan Carolyn Cain of Houston, his mother, four sisters, Mrs. Sam McElrey, Silsbee; Mrs. Bob Williams, Livingston; Mrs. L. Z. Fisher, Drumwright, Okla., and Mrs. W. A. Knight, Batson; five brothers, Kirby Cain, Orange; S/Sgt. Julius Cain of the army air corps in San Francisco, California, Willie Cain, Deweyville, and Luther Milner Cain of Livingston.

Ray L. Brock, Jr.
The late Ray L. Brock, Jr., 20 year old son of Mrs. and Mrs. Ray L. Brock of Livingston.
The War Department has notified Ray's parents that his body has arrived in the States.
He lost his life in the battle for Hasenfeld Gut near Julich, Germany, in the early morning of December 8, 1944.
Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.

Nora Cornelia Beuhring
THE TEXAS METHODIST NEWSPAPER, 14 April 1877, Vol XXIV, No. 40.
Nora Beuhring died on the 31st inst. She was the daughter of F. G. L.
Beuhring and M. M. Beuhring. Born in Virginia, Colorado Co. (sic), in 1850;
and professed religion in Moscow, in 1870; joined the M. E. Church, South;
and died at J. F. Roe's house, Moscow, Polk Co., Texas. Her funeral was
January 31, 1877. She left brothers and sisters and the church in Moscow.

Gilbert Addison Bazzoon, Sr.
1888 - November 21, 1939
G. A. Bazzoon, 51, of Vernon, son of Mrs. Mattie Bazzoon of Cleveland, died in a Vernon hospital Tuesday [November 21, 1939] following a few days illness.
Mr. Bazzoon was born and raised in Cleveland, but has resided the past 18 years in Vernon. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Bazzoon who is a sister of Mrs. H. S. Jasper of Cleveland, 4 children, Mrs. Berta Mae Hawthorne, Miss Geraldine Bazzoon, G. A. Bazzoon, Jr. and Frances Bazzoon, all of Vernon; 2 brothers, Ted and Rufus Bazzoon of Cleveland; 4 sisters, Mrs. Leona Ramey of Cleveland, Mrs. Charley Coleman of Splendora, Mrs. R. S. Craig of Houston, and Mrs. Bob Griffith of San Antonio, the mother, Mrs. Mattie Bazzoon of Cleveland and 3 grandchildren.
The funeral was held at Vernon Wednesday afternoon, where interment was made.

Mrs. Ada Viola Barron
October 22, 1895 - May 15, 1950
Mrs. Ada V. Barron Laid To Rest In Forest Hill Cem.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ada V. Beazley Barron were held at chapel of Pace Funeral Home Tuesday, May 16, 1950, with Rev. E.O. Harrell, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church officiating, assisted by Dr. W.B. Wadsworth, past of the First Baptist Church.
The order of Eastern Star of which she was a past Worthy Matron, presented their rites at the close of the ministers' message.
Interment followed in Forest Hill cemetery.
Mrs. Barron was born in Leggett and was the daughter of the late Dr. W. H. Beazley and Mrs. Sarah Eugenia Beazley of Shepherd, Texas.
Mrs. Barron was a graduate of Livingston High School and Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, and attended San Marcus Teachers College and was teaching in Village Mills, Texas at the time she met her late husband, Frank C. Barron.
They were married in Lake Charles, Louisiana, May 18, 1918 and returned to Village Mills, where they resided for a while, later residing in Laurel, Mississippi, Shepherd and California, moving to Livingston in 1926.
They operated a Market and Grocery store for a number of years prior to his death.
Mrs. Barron served as clear for the Rationing Board during the war years and since that time was in the County Welfare office as long as her health permitted.
She rendered and unselfish and invaluable service to the unfortunate of the county and the esteem in which they held her was evidenced by the large number who, with heavy hearts, came to pay their last respects.
Mrs. Barron was a member of the Presbyterian Church and of the Eastern Star.
Survivors are her mother, Mrs. E. S. Beazley; one son, Frank Barron Jr.; three brothers, A. H. Beazley of Conroe, Louis Beazley of Brenham and Joe Beazley of Livingston; two sisters Mrs. C. B. Hooper of Los Angeles and Mrs. Mary Lyle of Houston.
Pallbearers were: J. W. James, Ton Fitze, Ernest Cochran, Wyman Windham, Leslie Googles (Brenham), Adkins Davis, Janes Parker and Homer Morris.

Mrs. Sallie Matilda Bailey
Mrs. Sallie Bailey Laid To Rest Sat. In Holly Grove Cem.
Funeral services for Mrs.Sallie Matilda Bailey were held at Holly Grove Church on Saturday, January 20, 1951, at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Johnnie Dowden and Bro. Richard Collins of the Baptist Church officiating, with interment in Holly Grove cemetery.
Mrs. Bailey was born in Polk County on April 29, 1873, and passed away at the home of her brother, M. J. Richardson, on January 19, 1951, after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Bailey was a life-long resident of the Holly Grove community and was a devout member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors are one son, W. E. Bailey of Votaw; one brother, M. J. Richardson of Holly Grove; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were: Otis Richardson, Lewis Richardson, Glendon Richardson, Herman All_orn, Weldon Bailey........." Obituary is torn, the last words are missing.
