Alta McInvale

Local services for Alta Marcille Satterfield McInvale, 85, of Richmond, are 10 a.m. Thursday, May 7, 2009 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg, with the Rev. Tom Bain officiating.

Visitation is 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, in the Stateroom of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. A second period of visitation is 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 9, in the Parlor of Chapelwood Funeral Home in Texarkana. Graveside services are 1 p.m. Saturday at the Chapelwood Memorial Gardens cemetery.

Alta was born July 10, 1923 in Texarkana, to Charlie and Bertha Morgan Satterfield. In August 1941, she married Julious H. McInvale and they had two sons, Ricky L. McInvale and Reggie H. McInvale. On Oct. 8, 1962, Alta was employed by First National Bank of Richmond, and she retired Dec. 31, 1985, as a bank officer from Republic National Bank, after 23 years. She passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2009 in Richmond.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Bertha Satterfield; brothers: James, Arvin, Walter and Charlie W. Satterfield; and sisters, Vera Harrison, Grace Herndon, Hazel Price and Norma Satterfield.

Alta is survived by her husband of 67 years, Julious H. McInvale; sons, Ricky L. McInvale and wife, Betsy, and Reggie H. McInvale and wife, Dawn; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Tammy Milam and husband, Steve, and their children: Anna, Jessica, Stephanie and Katie, Scott McInvale and wife, Connie, David McInvale, Hank Dostal and wife, Lisa, Chris Dostal and wife, Nedra, and their children: Lainey, Samantha, Elizabeth and Brady, Ginny Kramer and husband, Darrel, and their children: Robert and wife, Jennifer, Justin, Matt and Stephanie, Jason Dostal and wife, Lynette, and their children, Dillan and Clayton, Chuck Dostal and wife, Sharon, and their children: Mathew and wife, Jessica, Francesca and Dale, and Juliann Newsome and husband, LeeRoy; sisters, Odessa L. Benson and Betty Davidson and husband, Jim; and many special nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Pallbearers for the Davis-Greenlawn service are her grandsons: Scott McInvale, David McInvale, Hank Dostal, Chris Dostal, Jason Dostal and Chuck Dostal.

Honorary pallbearers are Gary Pochyla and George Shry.

Pallbearers for the interment in Texarkana are Scott McInvale, David McInvale, Kenneth Pickering, Will Pickering, Tim Connor and Kurt Connor.

For those wishing, memorials may be made in Alta’s name to the charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home, 3900 B.F. Terry Blvd. in Rosenberg, 281-341-8800.

Catherine Swinger

Catherine J. Swinger, 95, of Richmond, passed away Monday, May 4, 2009. Interment will be at the family plot in Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Swinger.

Catherine is survived by her children, Jane Vogel of Sugar Land, and Scott Swinger of Detroit; grandchildren: Jeff, Olivia and Evan Swinger; and great-granddaughter, Tessa Maire Swinger.

The family requests donations be made to Cambridge Family Council, in care of Pat Pittman, 608 Ironwood Court, Richmond, Texas 77469.

Betty Price

Betty George Price, 82, of Richmond, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2009. Graveside services are 11 a.m. Friday, May 8, at Forest Park Lawndale cemetery, 6900 Lawndale Ave. in Houston.

Visitation with the family is 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 7, at the Settegast-Kopf Co. at Sugar Creek.

She was born Jan. 26, 1927, in Sweetwater. Betty was a lifelong resident of the Houston area.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 21 years, John Emmet Price Jr.

Betty is survived by her sons, David Heidemann and wife, Carol, and Marc Heidemann; stepdaughters, Brownie Price Newton, and Cynthia Price Bowman and husband, Judson; grandchildren: David Ryder Heidemann, Steven Drew Heidemann, and Heather Heidemann Deiss and husband, Scott; step-grandchildren: Shellie Stuart, Stacey Russom and husband, Billy, Peter Swearingen, John Newton and wife, Sally, Price Newton and wife, Kim, and Owen Newton; step-great-grandchildren: Cody Ray McKinnon, Carson Lee McKinnon, Colton Stuart McKinnon, Carly Stuart-Micocci and Georgia Newton; and sister, Annabeth Borne of Kingwood. The family would like to extend thanks to Oleta Thompson, Kim Thomson, and Linda Pavlicek for their compassion and care.

Georgia Martin

Georgia Martin, 82, of Orchard, passed away Monday, May 4, 2009 in Houston. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Friday, May 8, at Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Wallis.

Visitation is 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 7, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Knesek & Sons Funeral Home in Wallis.

Georgia Martin was a woman of strength and wisdom. She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who touched and inspired many lives.

She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Haas of Houston; sons: Marty Martin and wife, Phyllis, of Jeanerette, La., Anthony Martin of Orchard, and Henry Martin of Houston; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters: Lillian Gajevesky and husband, Marvin, of Pearland, Annette Hruzek of Rosenberg, and Sylvia Flynn of Fort Worth; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Knesek & Sons Funeral Home , 6244 Guyler St. in Wallis, 979-478-6311.

Felipe Reza

Felipe “Jessie” Reza, 74, of Richmond, was born Feb. 5, 1935, to Joaquin and Guadalupe Reza in San Benito, Texas, and passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009, surrounded by his family and loved ones. A funeral mass, officiated by the Rev. Lee Flores, is 10 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2009, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 514 Carlisle St. in Rosenberg. The rite of committal follows in West Gethsemane cemetery in Rosenberg.

Visitation is 2 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., with a 6:30 p.m. rosary, Thursday, May 7, in the chapel of E.P. Compean Funeral Directors.

Jessie was preceded in death by his parents, Joaquin and Guadalupe Reza; son, Felipe Reza; and sister, Petra Castillo.

Jessie was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 45 years, Josephine Reza; sons: Candido Garcia Jr., Jessie Garcia, Phillip Reza Jr. and wife, Veronica, Fabian Reza and wife, Norma, and Ricky Reza; daughters: Gloria Salas, Mary Mejias and Rosa Reza; brother, Raymond Reza; sisters: Gloria Alderete, Maria Cantu, Consuelo Lopez and Modesta Vela; stepchildren: Juan Garcia, Romulo Garcia, Alma de la Rosa and Dalia Lopez; best friend, Mark Farley; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and other family members and friends.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to E.P. Compean Funeral Directors, “Our Family Serving Your Family”, 1223 Sixth St. in Rosenberg, 281-238-4443.

Aaron Everett Prince, Jr.

Aaron Everett Prince, Jr., 78, of Highland Haven, Texas died Nov. 3, 2004. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, at Putnam Funeral Home Chapel in Kingsland, with Brother Max Copeland officiating.
Born May 23, 1926, in Marion, Ill., to Aaron E. and Maggie P. (Bonner) Prince, he married Betty Alice Threlkeld Dec. 13, 1946, in Hannibal, Mo. He worked for E.G. Rodman Corp. He retired from the Navy Reserve after serving 22 years; he also served in the U.S. Armed Forces in WWII and Korea. He and his wife retired to the Hill Country 17 years ago from Odessa, where he served as president of OIME. He enjoyed cooking, mysteries, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, his mother and father.
Survivors include: Betty Prince of Highland Haven, his wife; Janet Elizabeth Young and her husband Jim, of Dallas, and Judith Ana Prince of Midland, his daughters; James Everett Prince and his wife, Catherine of Richardson, his son; Michael Prince and his wife Rafaela of Bryan and Michelle Prince Hurt and her husband Marcus of Springfield, Mo., his grandchildren; Jose, Austyn, Tyler, and Caleb Prince, his great-grandchildren; Ruth Hunt of Kerrville, and Dorothy Prince of Odessa, his sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ronald McDonald House.
Arrangements were directed by Putnam Funeral Home of Kingsland.

Jesse Rayworth (JR) Ozias

Jesse Rayworth (JR) Ozias, 90, of Lake Buchanan, formerly of Marion, Iowa, died Nov. 3, 2004. He will be remembered at a service at the First Assembly of God Church, 96 Main in Marble Falls at 10 a.m. today.
He was born June 22, 1914 in Sacramento County, Calif. to Fannie (Stamy) and Jesse Royer Ozias. He was raised by great-grandmother Mary Ellen Lint and grandmother Cassie Stamy Kemp after losing his mother in 1915 to tuberculosis.
His family fondly recalls his stories of early years on a cattle ranch in Dalhart, gardening and cooking by age 8 after moving to Marion, fishing every summer and trapping in the winter.
He learned the art of peacekeeping and the skills of fighting as the leader of the South End gang to protect smaller children. He learned to drive at age 12 when his step-grandfather bought a 1926 Studebaker but refused to learn to drive it.
He excelled in academics and athletics, particularly track, at Marion High School. He was well suited for boxing and proudly remembered meeting Jack Dempsey. His hobbies included pike fishing in northern Minnesota, family rock hunting trips, cutting and polishing the finest found stones for jewelry.
He and his wife of 50 years, Dorothae, retired from Wilson Meat Packing in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Lake Buchanan in 1976 where he was a good neighbor to all and tended his garden, pecan and fruit trees.
He taught his grandson, Orin, to fish, work hard and value education. He was active in Foursquare and Assembly of God church communities.
Survivors left to cherish these memories include: Dorothae, his wife; Dr. Douglas and wife, Dr. Jan Marie, his son; Orin and wife Jill of Austin, Bruce and John Ozias, his step-brothers; Gary, a special nephew, and his wife Wilma; and Fay Harris, his second cousin .
The family appreciates the thoughtful care provided by Drs. Stephen Brown, Clark Craig and Scott Liggett, and the staff of Seton Hospice, Oaks Nursing Home (Burnet), Cornerstone Hospital and north Austin Medical Center (Austin).
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the church's building fund.
Arrangements were directed by Clements-Wilcox of Burnet.

Verlie Stroud

Verlie Stroud died Nov. 21, 2004, with his loving wife of 30 years and his family by his side. A memorial service was held Nov. 23 in the Kingsland Community Church.
He was born April 1, 1924, in Carthage, SD.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Inez Morgan Stroud, his sisters Margueritte Lorenz, Bernita Schultze and Dorothy Van Wyhe.
Survivors include: Elva Tallman Ewer Stroud of Marble Falls, his wife; Donald Stroud and wife Shirley of Carthage, SD, his brother; Eulala Thompsonof St. Charles, Ill., his sister; Althea Rowan and husband Robert (Bob) of Horseshoe Bay, Bret (Les) and wife Darla of Great Falls, Mont., Randy Ewere and wife Mary of Stevensville, Mont., Willie (Mike) Morgan and wife Betty of Boonesville, Ind., his stepchildren; eight granchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society or Kingsland Community Church.
Arrangements were directed by Clements-Wilcox of Marble Falls.

Raymon Eugene Johnson

Raymon Eugene Johnson, 82, of Tow, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at the V.A. Hospital in Kerrville. A graveside service was held Friday, at the Tow cemetery, with Rev. Jerald Moore officiating.
Born on August 15, 1922, to Etta Angeline (Cates) and John Eugene Johnson in Henrietta, Texas, he resided in Tow for 19 years and was formerly of Tyler, Texas.
Employed as a manager for Kentucky Fried Chicken for 14 years, he served as a U.S. Merchant Marine during World War II and was married to Norma Elizabeth (Pyle) on March 16, 1946, in Mobile, Ala.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Gladys Sutton, and one brother, Bill Johnson.
Survivors include: Norma Johnson of Tow, his wife; Larry Ray Johnson and wife Nell of Houston, Tommy Jay Johnson of Province Town, Mass., his sons; and Kyle Ryan Johnson and Kristin Elizabeth Johnson, his two grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association.

J.C. (Red) Baker

J.C. (Red) Baker of Kingsland died Nov. 22, 2004. Visitation was Friday at Putnam Funeral Home; graveside services were Saturday at Lakeland Hills memorial park in Burnet County, with the Rev. Jack Wyburn officiating.
Born Jan. 2, 1928, in Elmer, Okla., to Charlie and Callie (Hinkle) Baker, he married Anna Jo Hafer on Sept. 15, 1947, in Vernon, Texas. They moved to the Hill Country after his retirement from Valero Energy Corporation in 1983. He enjoyed traveling in his RV and spent two months relaxing and fishing for fresh water salmon at the Navaho Dam.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Survivors include: Anna Jo Baker of Kingsland, his wife; Johnnie Max Baker and his wife, Annette of Floresville, his son; Marsha Lynn Leffler and her husband Harvey of Buffalo, Minn., his daughter; Dustan Baker and his wife Cindy of Helotes, Scott Baker and his wife Tracie, also of Helotes, Ryan Simmang and his wife Crystal of Montrose, Minn., and Wendy Leffler of Buffalo, Minn., his grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; Werenth and Stanley Baker of Vernon, his brothers; and Patsy Dean Armstrong of Burkburnett, Texas and Bobbie Lee Burkett of Fort Worth, his sisters.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the American Lung Association of Texas, POB 26566, Austin, TX 78723; the American Heart Association, Capital Area Division, POB 16169, Austin TX 78761, or American Cancer Society, Highland Lakes Unit, POB 1834, Kingsland, TX 78639.
