Zora Fay Youngblood

Memorial services for Zora Fay Youngblood, 78, of Andrews were held Oct. 30 at McNett Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kerry Tilley, Pastor of First Assembly of God Church, officiating.
She died Oct. 26, 2004 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.
She was born Dec. 17, 1925 in Mercedes to Derias Bond and Ollie Cowling Bond.
She was raised in Stringtown, Okla. and graduated from Stringtown High School in 1943 and graduated from Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kansas.
She married Billy Ray Youngblood, Sr. on June 23, 1946 in Stingtown, Oklahoma. They had lived in Organ and Las Cruces, New Mexico, Marble Falls, and then moved to Andrews in 1991.
He preceded her in death on Oct. 31, 1994.
She was very proud to be a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. She was a homemaker.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister Betty Lansdale; grandson Benedict Kessler; and granddaughter Christine Youngblood.
She is survived by her son Billy Ray Youngblood, Jr. and wife Linda of Andrews; daughter Patricia Vogt and husband Chris of Plainsboro, New Jersey; sister Welo Jackson and husband Nathan of San Marcos; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Cremation was under the direction of McNett Funeral Home of Andrews.
Memorials may be sent to the Friends of the Library, 109 NW 1st Street, Andrews, Texas 79714.

Elbert Grant Horton

Elbert Grant Horton, 82, of Kingsland, died Dec. 12, 2004. Funeral services were held Tuesday in Highland Lakes Baptist Church in Kinsgland, with Pastor Ron Langley officiating; interment followed in Hoover Valley cemetery.
Born Sept. 23, 1922, in Goldswaite, he was the son of William Ira and Willie Lois (Hodges) Horton.
He was preceded in death by sons Billy Lon Culver and James melton Hughes and grandson Gordon Hughes and great-grandson Syd Hughes.
Survivors include: Yeida Horton of Kingsland, his wife; Beverly Mask of College Station and Pam Downing and husband Ron of Kingsland, his daughters; Bill Horton and wife Jolynda of Amarillo, his brother; Thelma Allison of Lewisville, Rita Burns and husband Ken of Amaraillo, his sisters; 10 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; Randy and Gay King from Seminole, his special friends; and other relatives and close friends.
Memorials may be made to the Hoover Valley cemetery or the Kingsland Library.
Arrangements were directed by Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Marble Falls.

Cebern Madison Coker

Cebern Madison Coker, known as C.M., died Dec. 18, 2004, freeing him from his earthly bondage of sickness. Services were held Dec. 21, at Temple Baptist Church with Rev. Griffin Jones officiating. Burial followed at Crane cemetery in Crane, Texas.
Born July 22, 1930, in Chandler, Okla., to Cebern P. and Ethel Coker, he grew up in Crane, graduated from Crane High School and attending Texas A&M.;
On Nov. 18, 1950, he married the love of his life, Evelyn Higdon; they were married for 45 years until her death on April 3, 1995. The Cokers were blessed with two sons and a daughter.
He worked for Texas-New Mexico Pipeline in Lovington, NM, and later transferred to Quito, Ecuador. He retired in 1985 and moved to Odessa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; one son, Michael Loren; parents, C.P. and Ethel Coker; sisters, Wanda Wagner, Roberta Van Meter, and Marjorie Ross.
Survivors include: C.P. Coker and wife Rhonda of Bombay, India, his son; Dee Pritschow and husband, David of Odessa, his daughter; Eddie Coker and wife Linda of Denver City, Texas, his brother; David Pritschow of Zephyrhills, Fla.; Michael Pritschow of Lubbock; Tasha Burnett of Sinton, Texas, his three grandchildren; and Kathie Ortiz, Irma Eilenberger and Elaine Villalobos, all of Odessa, three very special caregivers, and a host of friends and family.
Donations may be made to the Parkinsons and Alzheimer's Associations.
Services were directed by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Erna S. Gottschalk

Erna S. Gottschalk died Dec. 14, 2004, in Kingsland, Texas; a graveside service was conducted on Thursday at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park in Burnet County, with Rev. Doug Lindley officiating.
Born Nov. 13, 1917, she married Rudy Gottschalk on August 14, 1971. She was retired from the Civil Service where she had worked for many years. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of First Baptist Church in Kingsland.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudy, on Nov. 9, 1977.
Survivors include: her many friends in Kingsland.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Kingsland, Texas.

Katherine Jeanette Wedemeyer

Katherine Jeanette Wedemeyer, 84, of Kings-land, died Dec. 14, 2004. Visi-tation was Thursday at Putnam Funeral Home, services were Dec. 17, and interment Dec. 18 at Forest Park Lawndale cemetery in Houston, with Rev. Doug Lindley and Rev. Don Hogan officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Charles N. Wedemeyer Jr., Ken Wedemeyer, Fran Macferran, Eric Wedemeyer and Scott Wedemeyer.
Born Sept. 14, 1920, in Canton, Texas, to John and Hattie (Hall) Knott, she was a member of First Baptist Church in Kingsland and a former member of Park Memorial Baptist Church in Houston, where she was very involved in women's missions. She was an avid gardener, grew award winning roses, and won a number awards for her floral arrangements. She greatly loved and supported the arts in Houston where she lived for many years. She was an elegant and generous woman who loved to entertain.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Charles Newton Wedemeyer Sr. in October 2004.
Survivors include: Ken Wedemeyer of Houston, and Charles N. Wedemeyer Jr. of Spring, her sons; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the March of Dimes or the Lottie Moon Missions Fund.
Arrangements were directed by Putnam Funeral Home, 145 Texas Avenue, Kingsland, TX 78639, 325-388-0008.

Edith Doris Horn Thurman

Edith Doris Horn Thurman, 90, passed away Dec. 8 at her residence in Kingsland. She was born Nov. 7, 1914 in Tucumcari, NM to Cora Nevada (Colwell) and Asa Horn. Edith was a homemaker, seamstress, interior decorator, and gardener.
She was of the Baptist faith and a member of First Baptist Church in Kingsland. Edith was the First Baptist Church special events coordinator, decorator, SAM (Senior Adult Ministries) program chairman, and meals ministry, a member of Kingsland Garden Club, Kingsland Social Club, and Highland Lakes Organ Club.
Survivors include her son John H. Thurman, Jr. and wife Carol of San Antonio; daughters Charlene Moore and husband Al of Kingsland and Velna Jackson and husband Don of Fredericksburg; grandchildren Eddie Moore, Randy Moore, Rodney Moore, Christy Thurman, Annette Thurman, Donna Jackson, Donny Jackson, Cindy Jackson, Brad Jackson and Holly Jackson and great grandchildren, Zachary Moore, Bailey Moore, Cheyanne Moore, Justin Moore, Kacie Hacker, Amanda Johns, Alex Runion, Grace Runion, Nicole Jackson, and Robin Jackson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John H. (Johnny) Thurman, Jr. in 1999, one daughter, Myra Lynn Thurman, and two sisters, Olivia Mahavier, and Gladys Farmer.
Services were held at the First Baptist Church in Kingsland on Dec. 12 with Rev. Doug Lindley officiating. Interment followed at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park in Burnet County.
Pallbearers were Don Jackson, Donny Jackson, Al Moore, Eddie Moore, Randy Moore, Rodney Moore, Zackary Moore, Justin Moore, and Alan Wagner.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Mission Fund or the SAM Club at the church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Homes, Inc. of Kingsland.

Fritz Bruns

Fritz Bruns, 94, of Marble Falls, passed away on Dec. 8, 2004 at the Hill Country Memorial Hospital in Fredericksburg.
Fritz was born on Oct. 16, 1910 in Varel, Germany.
He was preceded in death by his parents Karl Emil Heinrich and Anna Margarethe Helene (Engelbart) Bruns, brothers John, Alfred, Martin, Henry, Antone, August and sister Toni Moellenberg.
In April of 1912, Fritz, along with seven siblings and parents, left Germany on "The Hannover" which landed at Galveston after a 20-day trip across the Atlantic Ocean. They arrived in Marble Falls by train where they lived and worked until the fall of 1912 when they moved to Fayette County to work and farm for nine years. Two more sons were born to the family during this time.
Hearing of a larger place to lease, the Bruns family moved back to Marble Falls where they farmed and ranched. Fritz grew up doing this type of work which sometimes meant being taken out of school to help with the work at home.
Later, he had a truck and hauled pecans, cotton, cattle and wood. During this time, he met Bernice Gibson, who lived on a neighboring ranch, and would become his wife and partner. They married on April 18, 1937 in Fredericksburg.
For many years, they raised cattle and hogs in partnership with Hal Anderson. It was while they lived on his ranch that their daughter, Arlene, was born. They also ran cattle on land leased from the Materns, Krumms and Mahans in Burnet County.
In the early 1960's, they met the Pielop family from Houston, which led to a joint venture in the cattle business in Burnet, Blanco, Fayette and LaSalle Counties. This relationship, which began as a business arrangement, developed into a lifelong friendship.
Fritz is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sarah Bernice Gibson Bruns.
He is also survived by his daughter Arlene and husband Wayne Rhoades, grandson Fritze Rhoades and wife Marianne, great-granddaughter Kala Rhoades, brother T.C. Bruns and wife Stella, sister Helen Herrington, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was on Dec. 11 in the Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel with Holton George and Willis Jernigan officiating and Tom Barr directing the music. Interment was at the Marble Falls City cemetery.
Pallbearers were Paul Anderson, Bill Pielop, Carl Moerer, Audie Herrington, Fritze Rhoades, Ray "Butch" Crownover, Bill Gibson and Melvin Wright. Honorary pallbearers were T.C. Bruns, F.E. "Pete" Ebeling, Robert Lee Ebeling, Don Doyle, Craig Wagenfuhr, Lee Harn and Monroe Koehne.
Memorials may be made to the Marble Falls Public Library or the charity of your choice.
Arrangements under the direction of Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home of Marble Falls.

Nora Martha Williams McComb

Nora Martha Williams McComb, loving wife and mother, born July 25, 1920 in Memphis, TN, passed peacefully away on Dec. 8, 2004 in Houston. Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Charles J. McComb.
Three sons, Charles, Richard, and Wesley, eight grandchildren and her brother Carl K. Williams survive her.
Her love for beautiful plants and flowers was always evident. She was a co-founder and first president of the Shreveport Horticulture Society. She was a talented artist as evidence by the many beautiful paintings she shared with family and friends.
Her love of digging was not limited to the ground as she had an insatiable curiosity for genealogy and spent much time in the pursuit, leaving an unpublished book about the Taber family line called "Autumn Leaves." Martha was also active in church activities and in her later years enjoyed the OWLS at Epiphany Church in Houston.
She encouraged and supported her sons and grandsons to participate in the Boy Scouts of America and was very proud that all eight of them attained the rank of Eagle Scout.
She will be greatly missed.
A chapel service was held Dec. 11 at the Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Chapel. Interment following at the Garden Memories, City of Llano cemetery. Memorial gifts in Martha's memory may be given to Hospice, (Odyssey Health Care, 2636 S. Loop West, Suite 210, Houston, TX. 77054.)
Arrangements under the directions of Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Homes, Inc. in Llano, TX.

Wade R. 'Ritchie' Cunningham

Wade R. 'Ritchie' Cunningham of Houston passed away on Nov. 17, 2004 at the age of 52. A funeral service was held on Nov. 20 in the Chapel of Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer, with Rev. Clay Brown of Grace Presbyterian Church officiating.
Interment followed at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park in Burnet.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society-Glioblastoma Multiforme Cancer Research, or to Houston Hospice.
A memorial website has been established for Ritchie Cunningham at www.mem.com, where you may send tributes to the family, share your memories, and see photos of his life.
