WESLACO, TX — Sonia Jo Mendoza, 17, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2001 in Weslaco.

Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, April 19, 2001 at 3 p.m. at the McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel at 900 W. 4th St. in Weslaco. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.

Domingo Rincones

OLMITO, TX - Domingo Rincones, 75, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, April 18, 2001.

Mr. Rincones, is survived by his wife, Refugia A. Rin-cones, of Olmito; sons, Armando (Maria Elena) Rincones Sr., of Dallas, TX, Leonardo (Flora Estella) Rincones, Sr., of Olmito; sisters, Fela Yanez, of Blue-town, Aurora Gonzalez, of Houston; grandchildren, Armando Rincones, Jr., Dina L. Rincones, Annet Rincones, Jennifer Rincones, Leonardo Rincones, Jr., Lillian M. Rincones and Daisy M. Rin-cones. 5 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Roberto and Adelaida Rincones; brother, Guadalupe Rincones; and sister, Nena Perales.

A holy rosary will be re-cited on Thursday, April 19, 2001 at the Thomae-Garza Funeral Chapel at 7 p.m.

Funeral mass will be on Friday, April 20, 2001 at the Sacred Heart Church in Las Rusias, at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Las Rusias Cemetery.

Alejandro Gomez Meade

BROWNSVILLE, TX - Alejandro Gomez Meade, 77, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2001 at his home in Brownsville.

A longtime resident of Brownsville, Alejandro was born in St. Louis, Missouri on April 24th, 1923.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlos and Dolores Gomez-Meade; three brothers, Carlos, Rafael and Miguel and two sisters, Maria and Carmela.

Surviving Alejandro his loving wife of 57 years, Rosa Maria and eight children, Rosemary Gomez Meade of Austin, Alejandro II and wife, Maria Luisa Gomez-Meade of Brownsville; Carlos and wife, Julie Gomez-Meade of Denver, Colorado; Dolores and husband, Jose Oscar Montemayor of Austin; Patricia and husband, Mike Reilly of McAllen; Leticia and husband, Carl Eads of Harlingen, Linda and husband Alfonso Ramirez of Austin, Hilda and husband Dr. Ricardo Castillo of San Antonio. A niece he helped raise and inspired, Hilda Valenzuela Mendez of Salinas, Califor-nia. His grandchildren, Os-car and wife, Piper Mon-temayor of Harlingen; Kelly Montemayor and husband, Eric Thompson of Korea; Wanda Montemayor of Aus-tin; Omar Overturf and Olivia Overturf of Austin; Alejandro III and wife, Elizabeth Gomez-Meade of Baltimore; Carlos Gomez Meade of Brownsville; Car-los, Alex and Glen Gomez-Meade of Denver; Jacqueline Middleton and husband, Casey Swanson of Alamo; Jessica Middleton and hus-band Kenny Carvajal of McAllen; Jennifer Middleton of McAllen; Michael Patrick and March Alexander Reilly. Cheryl, Carla and Carissa Eads of Harlingen; Celina, Adam and Andrew Ramirez of Austin; Kristin, Kevin and Kristopher Castillo of San Antonio; six great-grandchildren, Anna Mon-temayor of Austin; Alexander and Zachary Thompson of Korea; Sebastian Gomez-Meade of Baltimore; Shelby Swanson of Alamo,  Texas; Maya Dolores Montemayor of Harlingen. Surviving are also two brothers, Enrique and Edmundo Gomez-Meade of Mexico, City and many more nieces and nephews.

Alejandro was a loving fa-ther and role model to his children and grandchildren and will be dearly missed by all those whom he touched and inspired. He was a long-time businessman in Agri-culture sales of Ammonium gas fertilization into Mexico for many years. He later became a cotton seed broker for Ayamsa of Monterrey.

He will be remembered by all who knew him as a loving husband and strong family man of faith and values. Alejandro was a loyal mem-ber of St. Mary's Catholic Church and active in the Men's Club. Alejandro Gomez Meade was a hard worker, a man of integrity and of his word. He influ-enced his children to set goals and live by the exam-ples of the Lord our God.

Services will be held at Buena Vista Funeral Home, located at 125 McDavitt, beginning with the rosary at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, the 19th of April. Mass will be held at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catho-lic Church, located on Los Ebanos, Friday the 20th of April at 10 a.m. Funeral procession will depart at 9:30 a.m. from Buena Vista Fu-neral Home. Entombment will follow at Buena Vista Mausoleum.

Serving as pallbearers will be sons-in-law, Jose Oscar Montemayor, Carl Robert Eads, Michael Bond Reilly, Alfonso Ramirez and Ricardo Castillo and grandson, Oscar Jose Montemayor.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buena Vista Funeral Home and Burial Park, 125 McDavitt Boulevard.

Eva Daniel Moore

WESLACO — Eva Daniel Moore, 97, passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2001 at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. She was born on December 25, 1903 in Houston and was reared in Temple,  Texas. She married Emmett S. Moore on November 29, 1923 in Galveston,  Texas and made a loving home for her family in New Mexico, Alabama,  Oklahoma and  Texas.

Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her husband in 1983, her son, Sam Moore in 1988 and her daughter, Barbara Moore Joyner in 1999.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Weslaco and belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by five grandchildren, Barbara Ann Bayouth Huff of Luling,  Texas, Kathy Moore Murray of Spring,  Texas, Bill Joyner of San Antonio, Andy Moore of Richardson,  Texas, and Charles Joyner of Victoria,  Texas. Also surviving are ten great grandchildren, Sara and Claire Moore, Frank, Mark, Charles and David Bayouth, Joel and Justin Joyner, Colby and Cameron Joyner and five great great grandsons. Also a daughter-in-law, Patricia Moore of Weslaco,  Texas.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, April 19, 2001 at 11 a.m. at the Cook Walden Capital Parks Cemetery in Austin.

The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Eva Moore Memorial Fund, First United Methodist Church, 520 South Illinois, Weslaco,  Texas 78596 or to one‘s favorite charity.

McCaleb Funeral Home of Weslaco and Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home of Austin are directing the funeral arrangements.

Anastacia Sanchez

HARLINGEN, TX — Anastacia Sanchez, 77, entered into rest on April 16, 2001 in Harlingen,  Texas.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jose Sanchez.

She is survived by 7 children, Amparo Molina (Aristeo) of Cleburne, TX, Sara Alfaro (Juan) of Asherton, TX, Sofia Soto (Cipriano) of Harlingen, TX, Jose Sanchez, Jr. (Charlotte) of Simms, TX, Leonides Sanchez (Bonnie) of Dallas, TX, Graciela Sanchez of Texarcana, TX, and Amelia Wohlgemuth (Richard) of Lamesa, TX. She is also survived by 28 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; one brother, Benito Perez Echavarria; 3 sisters, Manuela Ochoa Echavarria, Angelita Silva Echavarria, and Enriqueta Echavarria all of Mexico.

Visitation will be held today, April 18, 2001 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace in Harlingen.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2001 with a chapel service at 1 p.m. at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace and interment will follow at Ashland Memorial Park Cemetery in Harlingen.

Pallbearers will be, Felipe Soto, Reynaldo Soto, Rey Alfaro, Freddy Alfardo, Martin Molina and Roy Molina.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen.

Israel (Izzy) Sarmiento

DALLAS — Israel (Izzy) Sarmiento passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2001, in Dallas, TX. Israel was born December 16, 1962, in Weslaco, TX to Carmen Sarmiento Jr. and Virginia Rodriguez.

Israel was a Sr. Cpl. Officer with the Dallas Police Department assigned to the Tactical Division for the past 13 years.

He is survived by his Daughters Adriana and Monica Sarmiento; Father Carmen Sarmiento; brothers, Carmen III, Ruben, Saul, Samuel, Juan Jose, and Efrain Sarmiento; sisters, Sylvia Sarmiento, Paula Cortez, Trinidad Sarmiento, Maria Dolores Mendoza, Estella Perez, Alicia Sarmiento, Juanita Sarmiento, and Viviana Sarmiento; maternal grandmother Cesaria Rodriguez. He is also survived by numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and cousins who loved him dearly.

Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at the First Baptist Church of Duncanville. 323 Wheatland Rd. Other services include, Prayer Service 7 p.m. Thursday at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Weslaco, TX. Funeral Service 2 p.m., Friday at Bethel Baptist Church in Progreso, TX. Interment Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco, TX.

A memorial fund in the name of Israel Sarmiento has been set up at the City Employees Credit Union, 7474 Ferguson Rd. Dallas,  Texas 75228. Account #1141450.

Rudolfo (Rudy) Garcia Jr.

HOUSTON — Rudolfo (Rudy) Garcia Jr., 24, passed away on Friday, April 13, 2001. Rudy was a loving son and brother and a great friend who will be missed by all. We will always remember you and keep you in our hearts.

He is survived by his mother, Norma Garcia of Houston; sister, Stacy Garcia; brother, Bobby Diaz all of Baytown; maternal grandparents, Porfirio and Maria Diaz of Harlingen; four uncles, Porfirio, Aaron, Fabian, and Adrian Diaz all of Harlingen; aunts, Janie Amaya of San Antonio, Mirelia De Leon, Sylvia Perrill and Sonia Kaniger of Harlingen.

There will be a rosary at 7 p.m. tonight at the Trinity Funeral Chapel of the Holy Spirit. The funeral mass will be held Thursday, April 19, 2001 at Our Lady of Assumption Church with the brother Hoss Anthony Alvarez as celebrant. Interment will then follow at Restlawn Memorial Park.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Trinity Funeral Chapel 1217 S. "F" Street, Harlingen.

Melda Padilla Castillo

LUBBOCK, TX — Melda Padilla Castillo, 62, passed away April 15, 2001 in Lubbock, TX. She is preceded in death by her loving father, Santos Padilla and paternal grandparents, Antonio and Manuela Padilla. She is survived by her sons, Joe Castillo, Jesse Castillo, Amado Castillo, Santos Castillo, Harold Castillo; daughters, Adelita Filer and Virgina Mata; brother, Antonia Padilla; 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 17, 2001 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Directors. Services will take place Wednesday, April 18, 2001 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lourdes in La Paloma, TX. Interment will follow at El Calaboz Cemetery. Melda was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Our prayers and thoughts will always be with you. May the angels lead you into paradise. We love you.

Juanita Asua Puente

SANTA ROSA — Juanita Asua Puente, 61, entered into rest on April 13, 2001 in Alamo, TN. She is preceded in death by her parents, Rosalio and Evita Asua; one son, Tony Puente; one sister, Paula Diaz; and one brother, Manuel Asua.

She is survived by her husband, Abundio Puente; 4 children, John Puente (Hope), Louis Puente (Tina), George Puente, Michelle Lee Puente all of Alamo, TN; 3 brothers, Amado Asua of Santa Rosa, Placido Asua of Memphis, TN, Simon Asua of LaFeria; 2 sisters, Lucia Ruiz of Santa Rosa, Evita Hernandez of Mercedes; 6 grandchildren, Natasha Puente, Niera Puente, Luis Puente Jr., JayC Puente, Abagail Puente, Anthony Andrew Puente; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral procession will depart the Rudy Garza Palms Funeral Home in LaFeria today, April 17 at 9:30 a.m. for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at St. Mary‘s Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Santo Nombre Cemetery in Santa Rosa. Pallbearers will be Abundio Puente, John Puente, Louis Puente, George Puente, Amado Asua and Placido Asua.

The family would especially like to thank Sylvia Espinoza & family and Alicia Alalfa & family.

Aurora V. Longoria

SAN BENITO — Aurora V. Longoria, 87, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2001. She was a lifetime resident of San Benito, TX. Mrs. Longoria is survived by sons, Eleodoro (Ofelia) Lopez of San Benito, Rodolfo Lopez of Toledo, Oh, Teofilo Longoria of San Benito, Felipe (Josefina) Longoria of San Benito; daughter, Betty Lastra of San Benito; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by parents Sebastian and Felipa Longoria and husband Alberto Longoria.

A Holy Rosary will be recited on Monday, April 16 at Thomae-Garza Funeral Chapel at 7 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, April 17 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Thomae-Garza Funeral Directors in San Benito.

Petra Ruelas Hamilton

MERCEDES —Petra Ruelas Hamilton of Mercedes who passed away Saturday at McAllen Medical Center. Visitation will be at Rudy Garza Funeral Home of Mercedes, Tues. from 1–9 p.m. Other funeral arrangements are pending.

Ignacia C. Olivarez

MERCEDES — Ignacia C. Olivarez, 66, passed away early Sunday morning at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. She had been a resident of Mercedes for about 50 years. She is survived by her husband, Alberto Olivarez of Mercedes; three sons, Juan Antonio Olivarez and Martin Olivarez both of Mercedes and Abelardo Olivarez of Corpus Christi; two brothers, Victor Contreras and Jesus Contreras both of Mercedes; and one sister, Maria Rodriguez of Mercedes. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the place to be announced with interment to follow at Mercedes Memorial Restlawn under the direction of Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. at the funeral home chapel on Monday.

Harold Lee Lewsader

DONNA — Harold Lee Lewsader was born in Hilsboro, Indiana on January 29, 1921 and passed away Friday, April 13, 2001 in Pearland,  Texas.

Harold served his country during WWII in New Guinea. He was a restaurateur for almost 50 years in Lewistown, Illinois and Donna,  Texas. Harold was the former owner of Harold’s Country Kitchen in Donna,  Texas. He leaves a loving and devoted wife, children and grandchildren.

Visitation will be held today Sunday, April 15, 2001 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel.

The services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 16, 2001 at McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel in Weslaco. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco.
