RC "Bud" Hausenfluck

BROWNSVILLE — Mr. RC "Bud" Hausenfluck, 86, was born on January 31, 1915 in Beeville,  Texas and passed away on April 13, 2001 in Laguna Vista,  Texas.

He was a World War II Veteran who served in the Pacific. He worked for Dodds and Wedequarter, Ballenger Construction and the  Texas Highway Department for 25 years. He retired in 1974.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Pauline Dawson Hausenfluck; one son, Michael (Nora) Hausenfluck; 3 daughters, Polly (Ernest) Mobley, Susie Tower and Gayle (Richard) Hausenfluck; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Frank Hausenfluck and J.D. Hausenfluck; and 3 sisters, Annie Baker, Dorothy Stanford and Wanda Stewart.

Graveside services will be held at Roselawn Memorial Gardens at 10 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2001.

military honors will be conducted at the graveside under the direction of Commander Paul H. Spell. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home in Brownsville.

Jesus W. Cavazos

LOS INDIOS, TX — Jesus W. Cavazos, age 64, went to be with the Lord Thursday evening at Valley Baptist Medical Center. He was a member of a Pioneer Cameron County Family. He was a lifetime resident of Los Indios. He was retired from Central Power & Light Co. and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Los Indios.

He is preceded in death by his father, Jose Maria Cavazos; wife, Consuelo L. Cavazos; brothers, Antonio and Fred Cavazos.

Survivors include children, Jesus Cavazos of Austin, Ricardo (Jackie) Cavazos of Harlingen, Jeannette Cavazos of Los Indios, Salvador (Bertha) Cavazos of Austin, Arturo (Sharon) Cavazos of McAllen, and Dr. Marcelo (Nora) Cavazos of Arlington,  Texas; 6 grandchildren; his mother, Catarina Weaver Cavazos of San Benito and brothers, Jose Cavazos, Daniel Cavazos, Ernesto Cavazos all of San Benito, Juan Cavazos of Brownsville, and Eddie Cavazos of Gary, Indiana.

Funeral service will be held Monday, April 16, 2001 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with interment following on to Las Rucias Cemetery in Las Rucias with military honors under the Auspices of American Legion Post 205 and V.F.W. Post 2410. Pallbearers will be Jesus Cavazos Jr., Ricardo Cavazos, Salvador Cavazos, Arturo Cavazos Jr., Dr. Marcelo Cavazos and Juan Cavazos.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Trinity Funeral Home.

Antonia E. Torres

MERCEDES — Antonia E. Torres, 93, died at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco on Good Friday, April 13, 2001, after a six-week long battle with pneumonia. She was born in Aguas Caliente, Aguas Caliente, Mexico. She came to the United States as a young 13-year-old bride in 1920. During this time, the town of Mercedes was just getting started, and she and her husband owned a grocery store on Frances Street.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Rafael Torres, in 1992; her oldest son, Antonio Torres of Mercedes; her other sons, George of San Jose, CA, Hector of Fort Worth and Jose Alejandro, a six week old baby.

She is survived by three sons, Rafael (Nelda) Torres, Jr. of Austin, TX, Joaquin (Elva) Torres of Angleton, TX and Alejandro (Barbara) Torres of League City, TX. She is also survived by four daughters, Concepcion "Chita" Hinojosa, Mary Alice Wilt and Rachel Torres, all of Mercedes and Rose Torres of Madison, Wisconsin; sixty-three grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren and eight great great- grandchildren.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home chapel. Funeral mass will be said Monday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mercedes, with Father Rafael Hernandez officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park under the direction of Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Joaquin Torres, Jr., Joel Torres, Mark Torres, Raul Hinojosa and Eddie Torres. Honorary pallbearers will be Rafael Torres, Jr., Alejandro Torres and Christopher M. Ortiz.

Amelia Gomez Rios

RAYMONDVILLE — Mrs. Amelia Gomez Rios, 81, entered into rest Friday, April 13, 2001 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen. She was born October 27, 1919 in Raymondville, TX to Hilario and Maria (Cantu) Gomez. She was a native and lifelong resident of Raymondville. She married in 1940 to Mr. Henry Rios. She was a member of the Alter Society of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Raymondville and a retired treasurer of K.J.Z.T.

Mrs. Rios is survived by her daughter, Norma Tidball of Brownsville; a brother, Lalo Gomez of Raymondville; 3 sisters, Viola Ruenes of Brownsville, Margaret Puente of Raymondville and Lydia Rodriguez of Capulin, CO.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, in 1980; her son, Homer Rios; and 2 brothers, Arturo and Beto Gomez.

Viewing and visitation will be held Sunday, from 12 noon until 9 p.m. with a Holy Rosary being recited at 6:30 p.m. at Duddlesten Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2001 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Raymondville Cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Duddlesten Funeral Home in Raymondville.

Jean Phyllis Ramsbottom

WEBSTER, TX — Jean Phyllis Ramsbottom passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2001 in Webster, TX at the age of 57. She was born in Creston, IA on Dec. 15, 1944. She worked as a U.S. Customs Inspector and was an actress and instructor in community theatre in New York and Chicago. She is survived by her mother, Mamie Ramsbottom and daughter, Gloria Ramsbottom, both of Webster, TX. Arrangements are under the direction of James Crowder Funeral Homes in Webster, TX.

Adela G. Cruz

LOS FRESNOS — Adela G. Cruz, 87, passed away at a local nursing home on June 2, 2001. She was born Dec. 17, 1913 in Brownsville, TX and was a life long resident of Los Fresnos.

Mrs. Cruz is survived by her sons, Celedonio (Mary) Cruz of Los Fresnos, Claudio (Linda) Cruz of Harlingen, Ernesto (Mary) Cruz of Grand Prairie, TX; 5 sisters, Lydia Reyna, Aurora Guajardo, Abelina Guajardo, Emma (Manuel) Cisneros, Odelia (Eusebio) Salazar; 3 brothers, Gilberto, Guillermo and Octaviano Guajardo; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Cruz is preceded in death by her parents, Jose Maria and Nieves Guajardo Sr.; husband, Ezequiel Cruz Sr.; son, Ezequiel Cruz Jr.; and grandson, Ernesto "Sonny" Cruz.

A Holy Rosary was recited on Sun., June 3 at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be on Mon., June 4 at 2 p.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Los Cuates Cemetery in Los Fresnos.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Hugo, George, Gabriel, Carlos, Hector Cruz and Joey Guajardo.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Thomae-Garza Funeral Directors in San Benito.

Odilia Canales Garza

HARLINGEN — Odilia Canales Garza (Lile), 78, was born in Brownsville, TX on Apr. 22, 1923. She was the daughter of Asencion and Irene (Jimenez) Canales. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Octaniano E. Garza, formerly of Detroit, MI.

She is survived by her 2 daughters, Margarita L. Garza of Harlingen and Irene G. Alvarez of Detroit, MI; 2 grandchildren, Victoria and Antonio both of Detroit, MI; 2 brothers, Ovidio (Eloisa) Canales of Harlingen and Benito (Elvira) Canales of Santa Rosa; sister, San Juanita (Felix) Chavez of Harlingen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Proverbs 31:10 – " Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies."

Pallbearers will be Arturo Canales, Alfredo Canales, Daniel Canales, Hilberto Canales, Hector Rodriguez, Benito Canales Jr., and Michael Canales.

Visitation will be today at the Chapel of the Holy Spirit Trinity Funeral Chapels from 4 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. A Holy Rosary will be recited on Monday and Tuesday nights at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Fr. Carlos Zuniga as the celebrant. Interment will follow at Santo Nombre Cemetery under the direction of Trinity Funeral Chapels, 1217 South F St., Harlingen, TX.

Virginia Lee Coley

ARROYO CITY — Virginia Lee Coley, 77, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2001 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.

Virginia was born in Helena, OK on October 28, 1923 and had been a resident of the area for over 60 years. She was an active member of the Arroyo Baptist Church, and her greatest achievement was the example she set for her family and friends.

Virginia is survived by her son, Dan Coley (Joyce) of Arroyo City; daughter, Beverly Bowers of Houston; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Dovie Bannworth of Corpus Christi.

Memorial services will be held at the Arroyo Baptist Church at 3 p.m., Monday, June 4, 2001 with the Rev. Pat Graham officiating.

The family requests that those desiring to do so may make memorial donations to the Arroyo Baptist Church or to the charity of choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Celedonio Figueroa

LYFORD — Celedonio Figueroa, 66, passed away June 1, 2001 at his home in Lyford, TX. He was born March 3, 1935 in Mexico to Jose and Maria Isabel (Espinoza) Figueroa. He moved to Lyford from Joliet, Ill. in June of 2000.

Visitation will be held today, Sunday, June 3, 2001 from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Duddlesten Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. on June 4th at the Alpha-Omega Bautista Iglesia in Lyford. Interment will follow at the Lyford Evergreen Cemetery.

Mr. Figueroa is survived by his wife, Cristina Figueroa of Lyford; eight sons, Jose Figueroa of Coal City, Ill., Francisco, Celedonio, Jr. and Ricky Figueroa, all of Joliet, Ill., Juan Figueroa of Romeoville, Ill., Robert S. Figueroa of Bolingbrook, Ill., Cisco S. and Alex Figueroa, both of Lyford; three daughters, Maria Simpson of Joliet, Ill., Vivian Mather of Monee, Ill. and Lucy  Washington of Chicago, Ill.; mother, Maria Isabel Figueroa of Sebastian; two brothers, Ignacio Figueroa of Sebastian and Serapio Figueroa of Lyford. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be his sons, Jose Figueroa, Francisco Figueroa, Celedonio Figueroa, Jr., Juan Figueroa, Robert S. Figueroa, Ricky Figueroa, Cisco S. and Alex Figueroa.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Duddlesten Funeral Home.

Guadalupe L. Galvan

SAN BENITO — Guadalupe L. Galvan, 81, entered into rest on June 1, 2001 at his residence.

Mr. Galvan was born on December 12, 1919. He is survived by his wife, Paula G. Galvan; 4 sons, 6 daughters, 18 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; his sister, Gumecinda Meza; and his brother, Geronimo Galvan.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 3, 2001 from 12 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the San Benito Funeral Home. A rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Monday, June 4, 2001 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park under the direction of San Benito Funeral Home.

Ignacio Estrada

MERCEDES — Ignacio Estrada, 78, died early Friday morning at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen.

Mr. Estrada was preceded in death by his wife, Bernardina, on January 16, 1993. He is survived by four sons, Lorenzo Estrada, Magdaleno Estrada, Felipe Estrada and Paulo Estrada, all of Mercedes; three daughters, Sylvia Fernandez of Denver, CO, Maria Elena Rodriguez of Arlington, TX, Maria de Jesus Cantu of Santa Maria; two brothers, Julian Estrada and Miguel Estrada, both of Durango, Durango, Mex.; four sisters, Juana Estrada of Durango, Durango, Mex., Estefana Estrada, Santos Estrada and Andrea Estrada of Sombrerete, Zacatecas, Mex. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. A rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mercedes. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes.

Adela G. Cruz

Maria Candelaria Almanza Quintino

SAN BENITO — Mrs. Maria Candelaria Almanza Quintino was born January 29, 1908 and entered into eternal rest on June 1, 2001 at her residence in San Benito,  Texas.

Mrs. Quintino was born and raised in Uriria, Guanajuato, Mexico. She resided in San Benito,  Texas since 1968.

She is survived by her daughter, Elvira A. Zavala and family; granddaughters, Maria Elena Zavala, Celia Garza; grandsons, Castulo Zavala, Manuel Zavala, Jose Luis Zavala, Trinidad Zavala and all their children from San Benito; her sons, Jose Almanza (Martha) and grandchildren from  Pennsylvania, Trinidad Almanza (Natividad) and grandchildren from Galveston, TX; brothers, Joaquin Quintino, Manuel Quintino and sister Soledad Quintino in Uriria, Gto., Mexico; a cousin, Jesus Zavala Quintino and family of Sandoval, Tamaulipas, Mexico; a niece, Esperanza Villagomez and family of San Benito, TX and Maria Quintino from Rio Grande City, TX and all her other relatives (cousins, nieces, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren).

Her husband, Mr. Jose Almanza; brothers, Refugio Quintino, Miguel Quintino and Trinidad Quintino; and a sister, Amalia Quintino, preceded her in death.

She was a very loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She will be dearly missed by all her family and friends.

Visitation will be held today, Sunday, June 3, 2001 from 12 p.m. until 9 p.m. at San Benito Funeral Home Chapel.

Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2001 at San Benito Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 4, 2001 at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in San Benito. Interment will follow at San Benito City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her great-grandsons, Emilio Zavala, Castulo Zavala, Jr., Jose Manuel Zavala, Jr., Dominique Zavala, Jaime Javier Zavala Garza and Jose Manuel Almanza.

Funeral services are under the direction of San Benito Funeral Home, 1400 W. Hwy 77, San Benito,  Texas.
