OFFIE VIOLA WISE

Graveside services for Offie Viola Denton Wise, 94, of Amarillo, were held at 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2003 at the Floydada Cemetery. Pastor, Mike Holster officated.

Burial was under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Floydada.

Mrs. Wise died Saturday, April 19, 2003 at the Hospice Inpatient Ward of Amarillo.

She was born on October 11, 1908 in Crowell to the late Sam Denton and Mary Thomas Denton. She married Cargile H. Wise on March 1, 1926 in Paducah. They lived in Floydada since 1934 until they moved to Amarillo in 1993. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two sons, C.H. and Denton Wise; one sister and one brother.

Survivors include three daughters, Mona Wise of Amarillo, Mary Caffee of Green River, Utah and Irene Grabber of Amarillo; two brothers, J. P. Denton of Midland and Leroy Denton of Lubbock; three sisters, Mattie Cross of Kerrville, May Compton of Alba and Jo Zammit of Burbank, California; four God daughters, Peggy Sprang, Renee Lax, Kathy Lax and Robin Lax; three God sons, Peter, Jim and Darelle; a special care-taker, Connie Duncan; two grandsons; three granddaughters; three great-grandsons and one great-great-granddaughters.

OBE EARL DURHAM

Graveside services were held for Obe Earl Durham, 86, of Waxahachie, Saturday July 19, 2003 in Slidell Cemetery. Lowell G. Jansen officiated. Arrangements were under the direction of Wayne Boze Funeral Home.

Mr. Durham passed away Thursday at Hill Regional Hospital, Hillsboro.

He was born in Slidell to Walter Page and Dora Elizabeth (Rhine)Durham. He was a longtime member and a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Oddfellows and a Shriner. He was a member of the Word of Life Fellowship Church in Chickashee, Ok. Mr. Durham worked for the railroad several years in Floyd County.

He is survived by his wife, Fern Audrey Durham of Waxahachie, formerly of Chickashee, OK; two sons, Page Durham and his wife Kathy of Newark; and Joe Durham and his wife Vicki of Hillsboro; one daughter, Linda Jansen and her husband Lowell of Cleveland, OK; two sisters, Geneva Blackburn and Doris Bines both of Lubbock; nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Tamara Durham, brothers, G.W. Durham and Roy Joe Durham, son, Arthur Lee Durham and one sister.

Memorials may be made to Slidell Baptist Church, P.O. Box 104, Slidell,  Texas 76267.

JAMES WAYNE FLAHERTY

Funeral services for James Wayne Flaherty, 54, of Tulsa,  Oklahoma were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church in Tulsa,  Oklahoma. Reverend Ed Bateman, Reverend Sue Bateman and Jay Wallace officiated.

Interment was held in the Veterans Field of Honor, Floral Haven Memorial Gardens in Broken Arrow,  Oklahoma.

Flaherty died July 20, 2003 in Tulsa.

He was born on October 23, 1948 in Floydada. He was raised in Tulsa,  Oklahoma.

He attended Springdale Elementary, Cleveland Junior High and graduated from Central High School in 1966. He attended the University of Tulsa and received a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. Afterwards he entered the United States Air Force and served as an officer assigned to the Strategic Air Command.

He returned to Tulsa in 1973 after serving in the Air Force and began his career with Williams Energy Company. He joined Serdrilco, Inc. in 1979 and later became president of the Tulsa-based oil and gas drilling company.

He served on the board of directors of the  Texas Association of Responsible Nonsubscribers. He was an active member of the Oaks Country Club, served on the board of directors of the Tulsa University Friends of Finance and a supporter of  Oklahoma State University, where he earned a Masters Degree in finance.

He was also a member of the Summit Club,  Oklahoma Society of CPA's and First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene, of Tulsa; his mother, Irene  Woods of Tulsa; a son, James Michael Flaherty of Garland; a brother, Ross and his wife, Sue, of Tulsa; a sister, Georgia Ann and her husband, Gary Best, of Tucson, Arizona; and nine nieces and nephews and seven great nieces and nephews.

JOSE Q. GARCIA

Funeral Mass was held for Jose Querovin Garcia, 56, former Silverton area resident, Monday August 4, 2003 in St. John of the Fields Catholic Church.

Burial was in Garden of Angels Cemetery in Abram by Flores Funeral Home of Mission.

Mr. Garcia died Friday, August 1, 2003, in La Joya.

He is survived by his wife; eight children; three brothers and seven sisters, including Mrs. Gonzalo (Julia) Gonzalez of Floydada; 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

WILLIAM F. MARTIN

Memorial services for William Fred Martin, 76, of Lubbock, were held Wednesday August 6, 2003, at the First Baptist Church in Floydada. Reverend Anthony D. Sisemore officiated. Arrangements were under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Floydada.

He died Sunday, August 3, 2003 at the Garrison Geriatric Care Center in Lubbock.

He was born on March 6, 1927 in Floydada to the late Mark H. Martin and Mattie Belle Slinker Martin. He married Katharine Hughette "Babe" Smart on December 21, 1949 in Floydada. She preceded him in death on February 18, 2002. He lived in Floydada until 1970 when he moved to South Africa. He worked there until 1993 and moved to Lubbock in 1994.

When he lived in Floydada, he ran the International Harvester Dealership in Floydada and Lockney. In South Africa he designed and manufactured primary farming equipment. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Q.B.'s and First Baptist Church of Floydada.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Dwane Mark Martin in 1983.

Survivors include one daughter, Katharine "Kit" Reynolds of Johannesburg, South Africa; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Katharine "Libby" Reynolds of Cape Town, South Africa; one grandson, Lane Kenneth Reynolds and wife, Elizabeth Ann, of Val, South Africa and one great-grandson, Drew Kenneth Reynolds.

The family suggests memorials to the Dwane Mark Martin Scholarship c/o First National Bank, P.O. Box 550, Floydada,  Texas 79235.

P. JOE CABALLERO, SR.

Funeral services for P. Joe Caballero, Sr., 63, of Floydada were held Friday, September 19, 2003 at the Getsemani Assembly of God in Floydada. Reverend Ray Gonzales officiated. Burial was at the Floydada Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Floydada.

He passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2003.

Mr. Caballero was born on June 9, 1940 in Harlingen to the late Octavio Caballero and Maria Caballero. He was a lifelong resident of Floyd County. He married Lupe Flores on November 7, 1959 in Lubbock. He was a member of the Getsemani Assembly of God.

His parents, one brother, Jesse Caballero and one granddaughter, Lacy Cabellero, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife Lupe Caballero; four sones, Joe Caballero, Jr. and wife Consuelo of Floydada, Tony Caballero and wife Lori of Lockney, Danny Caballero and wife Shelby of Lubbock, Steve Caballero and wife Ester of Italy, TX; three daughters, Mary Caballero of Lockney, Sylvia Suarez and husband Jaime of Floydada, Lisa Caballero of Floydada; two brothers, Joe and Pete Caballero both of Abernathy; nine sisters, Linda Trujillo of Denver, CO, Judy Perez of Abernathy, Frances Rodriguez of Abernathy, Connie Flores of Lubbock, Mary Mendez of Woodrow, Rosie Martinez of Post, Josie Loza of Sweetwater, Anita Cantu of Abernathy, Rita Rodriguez of Lubbock; 19 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

ED W. CONNER

Funeral services for Ed W. Conner, 77, of Canyon were held Saturday, September 20, 2003 at the First Baptist Church of Canyon. Rev. David Lowrie, pastor, officiated. Burial was in Dreamland Cemetery under the direction of Brooks Funeral Directors.

He passed away September 17, 2003 in Amarillo.

Mr. Conner was born on May 8, 1926 in Sulphur Springs to F.O. and Essie McManus Conner. He graduated from Floydada High School and West  Texas state University. He married Joan Byars at Canyon in 1949. He was known as the 'Floydada Flash' while in college and was a member of the 1950 Sun Bowl Champion football team at West  Texas State University. He was inducted into the West  Texas Hall of Champions in 1996 and was very active in the WT Alumni Association. He had lived in Liberty, Missouri and Grapevine, TX. He coached at Canyon High School in 1951-52. He served in the U.S. Navy and the National Guard. He was a member of First Baptist Church and was preceded in death by one brother, Grady Conner, in 1985.

Survivors include his wife Joan Byars Conner, of the home; two sons, Lon Ed Conner, and Guy M. Conner, both of Amarillo; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to WTAMU Athletics WT, Box 60049, Canyon,  Texas 79016, or favorite charity.

EZEQUIEL ESTORGA

Funeral services for Ezequiel Estorga, 56, of Floydada were held Monday, September 22, 2003 at the Primera Iglesia Bautista in Floydada. Reverend Pete Reyes officiated. Burial was at the Floydada Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Floydada.

Mr. Estorga passed away Friday, September 19, 2003 at Mangold Memorial Hospital in Lockney.

He was born November 10, 1946 in Barstow to the late Ben and Francisca Contreras. He moved to Floydada from Littlefield in 1978. He married Vicenta Moran on September 23, 1983 in Plainview. He was a farmer and a member of the Primera Iglesia Bautista.

Survivors include his wife, Vicenta Estorga; his mother, Francisca Contreras; three daughters, Anna Garza of McAllen, Lama Tirado of Stephenville, Selene Mendez of Lubbock; two brothers, Rudy Contreras of Mesquite, Vicon Contreras of Littlefield; one sister, Eva Contreras; seven grandchildren.

D.M. "IKE" GILBERT

Graveside services for D.M. "Ike" Gilbert, 85, of Floydada were held Thursday, September 18, 2003 at the Flomot Cemetery. Rev. Jeff Addison officiated. Burial was under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Floydada.

He passed away September 16, 2003 at the Floydada Rehabilitation and Care Center.

Mr. Gilbert was born January 29, 1918 in Hulver to the late Marlin Thomas Gilbert and Mattie R. Gilbert. He was a lifelong resident of Flomot. He graduated from Flomot High School in 1936. He married Christeen Merrell on February 4, 1940 in Floydada. He was a farmer and rancher until he retired in 1980. He was a member of the Homecoming Committee, past President and member of the Lions Club in Flomot, President and member of the Flomot School Board, and a member of the Cemetery Association of Flomot. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Straughter Gilbert, Dorsey Gilbert, Losey Gilbert, John Gilbert and one sister, Ocie Main.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Jerry Gilbert and his wife Sheila of Jacksonville, AL; two daughters, Judy Heiskell and her husband Leland of Pottsboro, Kathy Blanton and her husband Neal of Graham; one sister, Inez Moss of Anson; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

NOMAN HAMILTON

Services for Noman Hamilton, 94, of Lubbock were held Monday, September 15, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church in Floydada. Dr. David  Jones and Rev. Clayton Hicks officiated. Masonic graveside services followed in Floyd County Memorial Park. Arrangements were under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Floydada.

Mr. Hamilton died Thursday, September 11, 2003 at his residence in Lubbock.

He was born on August 20, 1909 in Melrose, NM to the late Mr. Jasper Newton Hamilton and Mrs. Clora Ann Hall Hamilton. He graduated from high school in Quitaque and attended  Texas Tech College for two years. He married Anna Louise Wright on November 23, 1932 in Quitaque. She preceded him in death on March 17, 1987. He married Juanita Martin Witcher on June 15, 1988. He had lived in Quitaque, Floydada, Tulia and moved to Lubbock in 1979. He worked for the Soil Conservation Service for 18 years and was a rancher and farmer.

He was raised as a Master Mason on March of 1939, and had been a Mason for 64 years. He was also a long time member of the Scottish Rite, Chapter and Council, Commandry and Order of the Eastern Star.. He had also been a member of the Lions Club. He was ordained as a deacon in 1948 at the First Baptist Church in Floydada and was Sunday School Superintendent for several years. He is a member of Southcrest Baptist Church in Lubbock.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, B.K. Hamilton, P.C. Hamilton, N.V. Hamilton and Paul Hamilton; two sisters, Sabra Setliff and Mary Garrison Burson.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita Hamilton of Tyler; a daughter Noma Lou Rainer and husband Bobby of Floydada; a sone, Steve Witcher and wife Carol of Tyler; a brother, E.J. Hamilton and wife Nell of Lubbock; four granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to a favorite charity.
