WALLACE P. HARBER

At the request of the deceased, no services were held for Wallace Preston "Pete" Harber, 84, of Sutherlin, OR.

He passed away September 16, 2003 in Reedsport, OR.

He was born March 31, 1919, in McKinney to Andrew  Jackson Harber and Ida Dean (Buckner) Harber. He grew up on the plains of  Texas, and lived in Floydada at one time. He is a WWII veteran, having served in the pacific as a "Sea Bee". He moved to California in the early 50's and worked many years as owner of floor covering businesses until his retirement in 1980. In 1998 they moved to Sutherlin, OR.

He is survived by his wife, Velma Ruth Harber, of Sutherlin, OR; one son, Milton Harber of Perris, CA; one daughter, Judie Carey of Oakland, OR; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Faye Love of Lubbock, Ruth Day and Mildred Brookes, both of Lakeway.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the WWII Memorial,  Washington D.C.

TONY MENDOZA

Funeral services were held for Tony Mendoza, 49, of Floydada Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at the Primera Iglesia Bautista in Floydada. Reverend Pete Reyes officiated. Burial was at the Floydada Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Floydada.

He passed away September 21, 2003 at University Medical Center in Lubbock.

He was born on January 17, 1954 in Ballinger to the late Carlos and Sarafina Mendoza. He moved to Floydada from Ballinger in 1972. He was the Plant Superintendent for Barwise Gin and was a member of the Primera Iglesia Bautista. He loved going to Corpus Christi to go saltwater fishing.

Survivors include his mother, Sarafina Mendoza; eight brothers, Marcilino Mendoza and wife Manuela of Metter, GA, Julio Mendoza and wife Adela of Floydada, Hilario Mendoza and wife Anita of Lockney, George Mendoza and wife Susie of Winters, Jesse Mendoza and wife Helen of Richland Hills, Carlos Mendoza, Jr. and wife Theresa, Joe Mendoza and Lucio Mendoza all of San Angelo; five sisters, Florence Reyes and husband Pedro of Floydada, Lydia Luera and husband Felix of Metter, GA, Mary Enriquez and husband Joe of Plainview, Lupe Almaquer and husband Roy of Floydada, and Rachel Mendoza of Lubbock.

LEONARDO ZAMBRANO

Rosary services for Leonardo G. Zambrano, 68, of Hale Center were Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at San Jose Catholic Church in Lockney. Funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday, September 18, 2003 at San Jose Catholic Church. Father Jim McCartney was celebrant. Burial was in Lockney Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Lockney.

Mr. Zambrano died Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.

He was born on May 24, 1935 in Goliad to the late Jose Zambrano and Margarita Zambrano. He married Cuca Zambrano on May 26, 1952 in Karnes City. He moved to Hale Center from the Lockney area in 1977. He was a farmer and one of the first members of Sagrado Corazon for San Jose Catholic Church of Lockney and a Crusieista in 1969. He was preceded in death by his wife on March 11, 1984; one brother, Joe Zambrano, Jr.; three sisters, Enedina Bela, Ophelia Rodriguez and Antonia Martinez.

He is survived by two sons, Lawrence Zambrano and wife Jeannie of Plainview, Jesse Salas of Kress; one daughter, Dina Trevino and her husband Joe of Kress; two sisters, Francisca Rodriguez of Seymour, Josie Perez of Floydada; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to a favorite charity.

JOSE CISNEROS, JR.

Rosary for Jose Cisneros, Jr., 60, of Floydada was Friday, October 10, 2003 at Moore-Rose- White Memorial Chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday, October 11, 2003 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Floydada. Father Philip de Frietas officiated. Burial was in Floyd County Memorial Park under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Floydada.

Mr. Cisneros passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2003 at his residence in Floydada.

He was born January 23, 1943 in La Villa to Jose Cisneros, Sr. and Maria Saenz Cisneros. He married Elvia Saenz on April 30, 1966 in La Villa. He moved from La Villa to Floydada where he lived for 37 years. He was a custodian at the Baptist Church until he retired in 1993 and was a member of the St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Mike Cisneros of La Villa.

Survivors include his wife, Elvia Cisneros of Floydada; seven children, Margie and Jerry Salinas of Lubbock, Norma and David McGowen of Floydada, Roland and Cynthia Cisneros and Roel and Esmeralda Cisneros all of Floydada, Joey and Sandy Cisneros of Lubbock, Nora and Roland Reyes and Mary Jane Cisneros all of Floydada; two brothers, Daniel Cisneros of Merced and Lionso Cisneros of Floydada; three sisters, Librada Martinez, Bertha Benitez and Josephine Bursiaga all of Floydada; and eleven grandchildren.

ROSA CLARKSTON

Funeral services for Rosa Clarkston, 91, of Blackwell, formerly of Lockney, were held Saturday, October 11, 2003 at Moore-Rose- White Memorial Chapel. Rev. Jeremy Johnston officiated. Burial was in Lockney Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Lockney.

Mrs. Clarkston went to be with her Lord Wednesday, October 8, 2003 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.

She was born March 28, 1912 in Chillicothe to the late Tom and Georgia Nolen. She married her beloved husband, J.M. Clarkston on November 22, 1926. He preceded her in death in 1980. She was a homemaker and a faithful member of Grace Fellowship Church in Lockney. She moved to Oak Creek in Blackwell with her son Don and wife Marilyn. She spent her time at Oak Creek reading and enjoying new friends. She was loved by everyone who knew her and was known as Oak Creek Granny Rosa. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Nelda Fay; one son, Mickey Clarkston; and one great-grandson, Donald Fields.

Survivors include one son, Donald Clarkston of Blackwell; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

HUBERT LEE ELLIS

Hubert Lee Ellis, formerly of Floydada, passed away October 4, 2003 in Overland Park, KS.

He was a 1954 graduate of Floydada High School and following his graduation joined the U. S. Air Force serving from July 1954 to July 1958. He was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Ellis. Mr. Ellis was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly, in 2000.

He is survived by a son, Harrell Wesley Ellis of Lubbock.

LUIS G. GARCIA

Rosary for Luis G. Garcia, 75, of Odem was recited at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2003 at the Ritchea-Gonzales Funeral Home.

Garcia passed away Sunday, October 5, 2003 in the Sinton Care Center.

He attended Odem schools in his childhood years. He worked as a laborer before entering the Air Force on March 1947.

He became a Staff Sergeant in 1956. He served in the Korean War. He also served in Hawaii, Panama Canal Zone, Germany, Peru, Japan, England and many other places around the world.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Maria Garcia of Odem.

Survivors include one brother, Frank G. Garcia, of Odem; four sisters, Guadalupe G. Perez of Chilicothe, Evangelina G. Viafranco of Mathis; Carolina G. Garcia of Odem and Elida Ponce of Floydada; and numerous nieces and nephews.

MELODY SWEARINGEN

Memorial services for Melody Ann Swearingen, 43, of Plainview will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 16, 2003 at the Garland Street Church of Christ. Russell Harris of the Garland Street Church of Christ will officiate.

Mrs. Swearingen died Tuesday, October 14, 2003 at her residence.

She was born on October 3, 1960 in Floydada. She grew up in Floydada and graduated from Floydada High School.

She married Rick Swearingen on August 1, 1980 in Floydada. She moved to Plainview and worked as a Pharmacy Tech for Wal-Mart Pharmacy and also worked for Dr. Stephen Turner and as a secretary for Rick's Car Care.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Parnell and Frances Powell.

Survivors include her husband, Rick Swearingen of Plainview; one daughter, Ashley Swearingen of Plainview; one son, Weston Swearingen of Plainview; two brothers, Arlis Powell of Los Angeles, California and Jerry Powell of Houston; brother and sisters-in-law, Buster and Diane Jenkins of Plainview and Donna Barnett of Clovis, New Mexico; father and mother-in-law, Cled and Shirley Swearingen of Plainview.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Garland Street Church of Christ.

K. ETHEL CARMACK

Services for Kathryn Ethel Carmack, 97, of Glen Rose were held Monday, October 20, 2003 at Moore-Rose- White Memorial Chapel in Floydada. The Rev. Phil Carpenter officiated. Burial was in the Floydada Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Floydada.

She departed this life on October 16, 2003 at the Glen Rose Medical Center in Glen Rose, where she had resided the last two years.

She was born July 7, 1906 in Winters to Hallie and Albert Glenn. Ethel or "Carmack" as she was known to all, was the eldest of eight children. She grew up surrounded by a loving family in the southwestern area of  Texas. She was married to Cager Bryant Carmack in Knox City on April 19, 1924. Four children were born to this union: Cagerlene Daley, Glenn Carmack, Billy Carmack and Bobby Carmack.

Ethel and Cager moved to the Floydada area in the early 1930's. After Cager's passing in February, 1987, Ethel continued to live in the family home in Floydada until age and health forced her to move to an assisted living facility in Granbury.

Ethel was an active and loyal member of the First Christian Church in Floydada for almost 70 years. She lived a happy, productive life for 97 years, 3 months and 10 days, bringing joy to all those around her, and will be much missed by everyone.

She was preceded in death by her son, Glenn, her husband, Cager, her daughter, Cagerlene and one granddaughter, Jeri. She was also preceded in death by her parents and 5 brothers and sisters.

She is survived by two sons, Billy and wife Nita and Bobby and wife Leila; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

BETTY JO GILBREATH

Funeral services for Betty Jo Perry Gilbreath, 79, of Floydada will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 23, 2003 at the First Baptist Church of Floydada. Reverend Anthony Sisemore will officiate and Reverend Armando Morales will assist.

Burial will be in the Floydada Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Floydada.

Mrs. Gilbreath passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2003 at Mangold Memorial Hospital in Lockney.

She was born on July 15, 1924 in Floydada to J. T. Perry and Addie Tomlinson Perry. She married John Wesley Gilbreath on September 2, 1950 in Plainview. He departed this life on December 27, 2002.

She was a telephone operator and enjoyed being with her family. She was a lifelong resident of Floydada and was a member of the Whirlwind Sams Trailer Club and First Baptist Church.

Survivors include a sister, Louvenia Brown of Floydada; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials to the Exodus Fund at the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 610, Floydada,  Texas 79235.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 22, 2003.
