GRUNDY -- Funeral services for Helen McCoy will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Danny Hess, Martha Presley and Andy Presley will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain Valley Memorial Park at Big Rock.
Miss McCoy, 70, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, in Buchanan General Hospital.
Pallbearers will be Robert McNutt, Jerry Skeens, Shane Sesco, David Prater and Kermit Stiltner.

Funeral services for George Edward Patterson Jr. will be conducted Thursday at 7 p.m. in Robinson Mortuary Chapel. The Rev. James McMilliam will officiate. Burial will be private.

Brandon Scott Perkins
HONAKER -- Funeral services for Brandon Scott Perkins will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in Honaker Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Gerald Lester and Luther Bowman will officiate. Burial will be in the family cemetery near the home.
Brandon Scott Perkins, 13, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, in Russell County Medical Center in Lebanon.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Messer, Donnie Messer, Tim Baldwin, David Baldwin, David Robinette, Jeff Kinder and Jarred Hughes. Honorary pallbearers will be Josh Hess, Ryan Miller and the eighth-grade basketball team.
Friends may call any time Wednesday in the funeral home.

GLADE SPRING -- Funeral services for Masceo Porter will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Porter, 30, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, in Glade Spring.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday in Farris Funeral Service.
Phyllis Rhoton
KINGSPORT -- Phyllis Irene Taylor Rhoton, 70, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at her home.
She was born in Scott County, a daughter of Maudella Lane Taylor and the late Kyle P. Taylor. She was employed in the housekeeping department of Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center. She was a member of Walnut Chapel Primitive Baptist Church and the widow of George Richard Rhoton.
Surviving, besides her mother, are two daughters, Mrs. Darrell (Jerlene) Blix of Gate City and Carolyn White of Kingsport; three sisters, Marie Wallen and Billie Tipton, both of Kingsport, and Lois Prince of Nashville; two brothers, Tommy Taylor of Gate City and Jerry Taylor of Church Hill, Tenn.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 8 p.m. in Colonial Funeral Home in Weber City. The Rev. Kenneth Neeley will officiate. Music will be by the Lee
Smith Singers. Graveside services will be Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in Holston View Cemetery. The family will meet at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
Mrs. Rhoton was also preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Dale Rhoton; and two brothers, J. Fred Taylor and Joe Taylor.
Among survivors are grandchildren Heath Horne and Travis Ashworth.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home or at the residence of a daughter, Jerlene Blix, 224 Spring Valley Circle.

Dexter Alan Ring
ST. PAUL -- Dexter Alan Ring, 40, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, in Norton Community Hospital.
He was a son of Warren and Ruby Ring of St. Paul. He was of the Protestant faith.
Surviving, besides his parents, are two sisters, Deborah Nickels of St. Paul and Angela Sowards of Kingsport; two nephews; and a niece.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 8 p.m. in Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Coeburn. The Rev. Jeff Rolen will officiate. Graveside services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Levi-Cantrell Cemetery in Pound.
Among survivors are nephews, Scottie Nickels and Cal Wharton; and niece, Skyler Nickels.

Laura B. Roberts
WISE, Va. -- Laura Belle Roberts, 78, formerly of the Stephens Community, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, in Russell County Medical Center in Lebanon.
She was a daughter of the late Henry and Minnie Roberts. She had lived in Dickensonville Rest Home in Castlewood since 1971 and was of the Freewill Baptist faith.
Surviving are four sisters, Dorothy Salyers, Betty Adams, Mrs. Dennis (Ann) Hensley and Mrs. Charles (Mary) Greene, all of Wise; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 7 p.m. in Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise. Charles Greene and the Rev. Gene Jennings will officiate. Graveside services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Wise Cemetery.
Miss Roberts was also preceded in death by three brothers, William Henry Roberts Jr., Ernest "Red" Roberts and Bruce Roberts; and a sister, Virginia Harbin.
Among survivors are a special niece, Catherine Carson Rigg; and several other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until time of services at 7 p.m. Thursday in Sturgill Funeral Home.
Vina H. Rutledge
BLUFF CITY - Vina Louise Hodges Rutledge, 89, formerly of Bluff City, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, in Appalachian Christian Village in
Johnson City.
She was born in Avery County, N.C., a daughter of the late James and Mary Cannon Hughes. She was a retired employee of Unysis and a member of First Baptist Church in Bluff City, where she was a Sunday school teacher and served in other church activities. She was the widow of Emerald R. Rutledge.
Surviving are a daughter, Judy Watson of Bluff City; two stepdaughters, Isabell Barnes of Bluff City and Martha Wilson of Joppa, Md.; a son, Dan Rutledge of
Johnson City; three stepsons, Gene Rutledge of Soso, Miss., Ralph Rutledge of Essex, Md., and Wayne Rutledge of McDonough, Ga.; four grandchildren; 18 step-grandchildren; 16 great-step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in Morning View Cemetery by Tetrick Funeral Home Bluff City Chapel. Dr. Bill Christian will officiate. Family, minister and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Thursday to travel in procession to the cemetery.
Mrs. Rutledge was also preceded in death by a stepson; two stepdaughters; three brothers; and a sister.
Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel or other times at the home of daughter Judy Watson, 3176 Highway 394, Bluff City.

Dana Shipley
Dana Shipley, 89, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, in
Johnson City Medical Center.
She was born in Bristol Tennessee, a daughter of the late Fred E. and Elizabeth Atkins Smith. She had lived in
Johnson City for the past four years.
She was a 1939 graduate of East Tennessee State University Class and a teacher in the Sullivan County School System for 52 years. She was a member of Tennessee Education Association, National Education Association, Tennessee Retired Teachers Association and Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Association. She was the oldest living member of First Presbyterian Church in Bristol Tennessee and the widow of Garland H. Shipley.
Surviving are two daughters, Lin Snipes of
Johnson City and Carol Lahr of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Judy McIver of Charlotte; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. at the graveside in Glenwood Cemetery by Blevins Funeral Home. The Rev. John A. Thrasher will officiate.
Mrs. Shipley was also preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Wilson and June Esser.
There will be no viewing or visitation at the funeral home.

Sara E. Snodgrass
DELRAY BEACH, Fla. -- Dr. Sara Elizabeth "Sally" Snodgrass, 57, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000.
She was born in Meadowview, Va., earned degrees from Virginia Intermont College, University of North Carolina, Arizona University and received her doctorate degree from Harvard. She was a professor at Skidmore College and Florida Atlantic University, a member of Unity Church of Delray, Undersea Adventurers Dive Club and the Wellness Community Center.
Surviving are a brother, Wayne Snodgrass; and two nieces.
Services were held Sunday in Delray Beach.
