Drewry J. Via
Drewry J. "Jack" Via, 80, of 171 Thomas Road, Collinsville, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006, at his home.
He was born Oct. 9, 1925, in Henry County to Drewry Joseph Via and Bessie Compton Via. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Via and a sister, Jeanette Haynes.
He was a Navy veteran serving in World War II as a Seaman First Class on the USS George E. Davis. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, the Philippine Liberation Campaign Medal with one Bronze Star and the World War II Victory Medal. He retired from Boaz Dairy as a milk truck driver after 40 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Collinsville.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret C. Via of the home; two sons, Dale Via of Ridgeway and Joey Via of Fieldale; a daughter, Sherry Webb of Ridgeway; a sister, Dorothy "Cissy" Clay of Collinsville; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Ben Sturgis officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park with military honors by the Martinsville & Henry County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard and the Navy.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. today at the chapel and other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Collinsville, 3339 Virginia Ave., Collinsville, Va. 24078.

Samuel A. Williams
The memorial service for Samuel Addison Williams, 58, of 1202 Bethel Lane Ext., Apt. 4, Martinsville, who died Aug. 31, 2006, was held Sunday at Hairston Funeral Home chapel with Minister Kurian Amos officiating.

Trudy N. Bryant
The funeral for Trudy Nolen Bryant, 68, of 58 Pinwell Ave., Bassett, who died Aug. 30, 2006, was held Saturday at Collins Funeral Services chapel with Ministers Don Kendrick and Ron Ulrey officiating. Burial was in Overlook cemetery in Eden, N.C.
Pallbearers were Neil Varner, Adam Varner, James Bowling, Larry Guilliams, Keith McGuire, Wayne Hall, Elmer Hall, Gage Stiles, Zachary Parker and Drew Nolen.

D. "Crockett" Chatham
Friends of David "Crockett" Chatham, 59, of Bassett, will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, at his home at 317 Turtle Rock Trail, Bassett.
He died Aug. 31, 2006, at his home.
Arrangements are by Collins Funeral Services, Bassett.

Bert C. Finley
The funeral for Bert Clinton Finley, 84, who died Aug. 29, 2006, was held Friday at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home with Dr. David Adkins officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park with military honors by Martinsville-Henry County Veterans Honor Guard and flag presentation by Pfc. Jimmy Wikinson and Staff Sgt. James Lark from the 80th Division-Training.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Finley.
Pallbearers were Robert Hankins, Jeff Joyce, Pete Draper, Bradley Draper, Bobby Slaughter, Terry Wade, David Sawyers and J.D. Collins.

Louise E. Golden
EDEN, N.C. -- Louise Estes Golden, 81, of 8103 N.C. Highway 14, Eden, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2006, at her home.
Norris Funeral Services and Crematory in Martinsville is in charge of arrangements.

Charmie A. Isom
Charmie A. Isom, 75, of 1526 Dillons Fork Road, Fieldale, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
Arrangements will be announced by Norris Funeral Services and Crematory.

Darrel M. Redd
The funeral for Darrel Mearse Redd, 47, of 99 Honey Drive, Bassett, who died Aug. 29, 2006, at Memorial Hospital, will be held at noon Monday at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Harold Carelock officiating. Burial will be in the Smith family cemetery. The family will receive friends for a one-half hour before the service.
He was born May 18, 1959, in Henry County to Minister Frank Edward Redd and Eva Marlene Redd, both of Bassett. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Titus Redd and Tobias Milton Redd.
He worked for Stanley Furniture Co. and Curtis W. Johnson Paving Co. He was a member of Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the usher board and sang in the choir.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his stepmother, Juanita Redd of Bassett; and three sisters, Gatha Dalton of Martinsville, Daphiene M. Martin of Glen Burnie, Md., and Eva Marvell Redd of Greensboro, N.C.
Stanfield-Miller Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Florence S. Roberson
Florence Setliff Roberson, 91, of Stuart, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2006, at Blue Ridge Nursing Center, Stuart.
She was born April 18, 1915, in Patrick County to John Setliff and Mary Emerson Setliff. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lee Roberson; and seven brothers and sisters.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Nolen of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two sons, Gary Roberson of Stuart and Wade Spencer of Sumpter, S.C.; a brother, Otis Setliff of Stuart; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Moody Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Randall officiating. Burial will be in Union Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Oleta W. Smith
The funeral for Oleta Walker Smith, 93, of Vista Road, Martinsville, who died Aug. 30, 2006, was held Friday at Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church in Callands with the Revs. Berlin Hanks, Nancy Copin and Rusty East officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ben Smith, Kevin Smith, Robert Young, Daniel Smith, Marty Cobbs and Billy Barbour.
Norris Funeral Services and Crematory was in charge of the arrangements.

Dera R. Spencer
Dera Rigney Spencer, 82, of 2844 Mt. Olivet Road, Martinsville, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006, at Mary's Essential Care Adult Home.
She was born April 4, 2006, in Penhook to Fordie Rigney and Viola Ferguson Rigney. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Jefferson Spencer; a sister, Vivian Wilson; and two brothers, Muncie Rigney and Bentley Rigney.
She was a homemaker and had served as a medical technician at an Army Air Force Regional and Convalescent Hospital during World War II. She attended Fuller Memorial Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Larry Gene Spencer of Flowery Branch, Ga..; a half-brother, Rick Smith of Florida; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Norris Funeral Services chapel with the Rev. Robert Breckenridge officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends today from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Virginia A. Stone
The funeral for Virginia Elizabeth Ashby Stone, 80, of Martinsville, who died Aug. 30, 2006, was held Saturday at Chatham Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Hatfield and the Rev. Roy McVey officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were Bernard Stone, Ken Stone, Roy Stone, Billy Freeman, Jack Williamson and Ray Newton.
Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

James R. Wade
James Robert Wade, 80, of Columbus Drive, Bassett, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2006, at Blue Ridge Rehab Center, Martinsville.
He was born Nov. 22, 1925, in Henry County to John Wade and Pencei D. Hagwood Wade. His parents preceded him in death.
He retired from Bassett Furniture Industries with 42 years of service and attended New Bethel Christian Church.
Surviving are a son, Melvin Noland Wade of Martinsville; two brothers, Melvin N. Wade of Cades, S.C. and Eulish Wade of Martinsville; a sister, Shirley "Jean" Wade of Martinsville; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hairston Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Mable Finney officiating. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends one-half hour before the service and other times at the home of his son at 261 Brass Shop Road, Martinsville.
Hairston Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
