Theo M. Hairston
The funeral for Theo Gladys Millner Hairston, 91, of 2767 A.L. Philpott Highway, Axton, who died July 18, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, will be held at noon Saturday at Moral Hill Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Thurman O. Echols Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the Penn family cemetery at Spencer.
The family will receive friends at the church for one half-hour before the funeral and other times at the home.
She was born in Axton on May 25, 1915, to William Millner and Georgia Lampkins Millner. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Cora Lee Hairston, Martha Sue Hodge, Thelma M. Williams and Marie Albany; and three brothers, Walter Millner, Calvin Millner and Jesse Millner.
She retired from the former Standard Garments where she worked for 50 years. She was a member of Moral Hill Missionary Baptist Church and served as a deaconess, on the usher board, as a pastor's aide and on the Missionary board.
Surviving are her husband, John Henry Hairston of the home; a daughter, Gladys G. Warrington of Martinsville; three sons, James Henry Hairston of Danville, Hodges Lee Hairston of Greensboro, N.C. and William Sandy Hairston of the home; a brother, Beverly R. Millner of Axton; one sister, Pauline McDaniel of Flint, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Vinie H. Joyce
The funeral for Vinie Hester Joyce 84, of Beverly Healthcare, Martinsville, who died July 18, 2006, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Collins Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Old Center Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
In addition to receiving friends at Collins Funeral Services from 6 to 8 p.m. today, friends will be received at the home of her brother, L.G. Cassell, 417 Valley Drive, Fieldale.

Fletcher Kirby
The funeral for Fletcher Kirby, 49, of 61 Liza Court, Martinsville, who died July 16, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Stanfield-Miller Funeral Home with Minister Vera Hagwood officiating. Burial will be at Carver Memorial Gardens.
Family members will receive friends at Kirby's home on Liza Court, the home of his mother at 12 Massey Street and from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Kirby was born in Martinsville on April 8, 1957, to Jimmie Hughes and Shirley Kirby Oliver of Martinsville.
He had served in the Army National Guard, worked at the former Leggett Department Store, and he was a member of Mt. Zion United Holiness Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Shaleta Thomas Talley of Martinsville; a son, Rodrick Hairston of Floyd; a brother, George Oliver of Bassett; and two grandchildren.
Stanfield-Miller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Delcie B. Love
The funeral for Delcie Bateman Love, 98, of Claudville, who died July 16, 2006, was held Wednesday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. The Rev. Alan Vass and Pastor Randy Bartley officiated. Burial was at the Red Bank Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Brian Jessup, Dan Smith, Richard Turner, Jeffrey Turner, Jon Love, Stephen A. Jessup and Scott Love.

R. Boyd Penn Jr.
The funeral for R. Boyd Penn Jr., 64, of 317 North Terrace Ave., Mount Vernon, N.Y., who died July 11, 2006, at his home, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Red Hollow Primitive Baptist Church. Elder Richard Penn will officiate. Burial will be in the Penn family cemetery at Spencer.
The family will receive friends at the church for one half-hour before the funeral and other times at the home of his sister at 914 Stella Loop, Spencer.
Penn was born in Patrick County on May 9, 1942, to Boyd Penn Sr. and Ella Johnson Penn Wade.
In New York, he worked for the state for 12 years, and he had been a member of St. Marks Episcopal Church for 10 years.
Surviving are a son, Anthony Boyd Penn of Hopewell; sister, Eloise "Goodie" Wright of Spencer; and four grandchildren.
Hines Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

Donald W. Richardson
The funeral for Donald W. Richardson, 85, of 719 Beverly Way, Martinsville, who died July 18, 2006, at Memorial Hospital, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Kearfott Memorial Baptist Church. The Revs. J.D. Harmon and Francis Martin will officiate. Burial will be at Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at McKee-Stone Funeral Services from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today, and other times at the home at Beverly Way.
Memorials may be made to Kearfott Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, 1403 Rivermont Heights, Martinsville, Va. 24112.
Richardson served in the Navy during World War II, retired in 1981 after 26 years as Martinsville's water superintendent, and he was a charter member of Kearfott Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors are his wife, Sue Bedwell Richardson of the home; two daughters, Katherine Richardson Smith of Roanoke and Paige Richardson Mawdsley of Somerset; two sons, Larry Donald Richardson of Hardy and John W. Richardson of Roanoke; a half-sister, Juanita White of Marion; and five grandchildren.

Annie R. Spencer
Annie "Dot" Russell Spencer, 56, of 100 Dexter St., Martinsville, died Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
Hines Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements

Sharon A. Cook
Sharon A. Cook, 44, of 16 Overhill Drive, Bassett, died Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at her residence.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Collins Funeral Services in Bassett.

Harold B. Draper
The funeral for the Rev. Dr. Harold Batts Draper, 62, of 1005 Owens Road, Martinsville, who died Sunday, July 16, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church, East Martinsville. The Rev. Charles Whitfield will officiate and burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held at the church one half-hour before the service.
Draper was born in Dinwiddie County on Sept. 8, 1943, to Flennie Draper and Adelie Batts Draper.
He received a doctorate of divinity at Bethlehem Bible College in Roanoke and was associate pastor at First Baptist Church, East Martinsville. He had worked for Tultex for nine years as a floor manager.
Surviving his wife, Frances Gravely Draper of the home; three daughters, Winona Tosic of Fort Lee, Katherine Draper of Herndon and Michele Draper of Martinsville; two brothers, James Lee Batts of Los Angeles, Calif. and Benny Batts of Newark, Del.; and five grandchildren.
Hairston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

James C. Edwards
James C. Edwards, 88, of 400 Edwards Road, Penhook, died Monday, July 17, 2006, at Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Franklin County on June 14, 1918, to John Henry Edwards and Martha Jane Edwards.
He had served in the Army, was a Mason, a member of American Legion Post 111, and retired from the former Dupont in Martinsville, where he worked for 42 years. He was a member of Rising Sun Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Willie Pearl Edwards of the home; one son, Dr. James Clay Edwards of Tallahassee, Fla.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Rising Sun Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Anthony Woody officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Arrangements are by Stanfield Mortuary Service, Rocky Mount.

James E. Goode
The funeral for James Edgar Goode, 87, of 808 Barrows Mill Road, Martinsville, who died Sunday, July 17, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Norris Funeral Services chapel. Pastors Barry Sink and Roy McVey will officiate. Burial will be at Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at Norris Funeral Services from 7 to 9 p.m. today.
Goode was born in Bedford County, on Jan. 16, 1919, to Joseph Raymond Goode and Della Mae Starkey Goode. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Mae "Peggy" Beal Goode; a sister, Kathleen Goode Allison; two brothers, Joseph Goode and Padgett Goode; and two half-sisters, Vesta Goode Bennett and Clarice Goode Cundiff.
He served in the Army during World War II, had worked as a truck driver for Warren Trucking Company, and he was a member of Jones Chapel Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are a daughter, Gloria Jean Goode Moran of Bassett; a son, James Everett Goode of Stuart; a stepdaughter, Reva "Betty" Franklin of Figsboro, Martinsville; stepsons, Bobby Helms of Anaheim, Calif. and Harold Wayne Helms of Martinsville; brothers, Albert Goode of Villa Heights, Martinsville, Randolph Goode of Bassett and Clifford Goode of Winston-Salem, N.C.; sisters, Nora Lee Beck and Zora Robertson, both of Martinsville; a half-brother, Aubrey Goode of Florida; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; six step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.

George S. Gravely
The funeral for George Spencer Gravely, 73, of Martinsville, who died July 14, 2006, was held Tuesday at High Street Baptist Church with the Rev. William A. Shackleford officiating. Burial was in Carver Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Melvin Gravely, Jerrod Claytor, Vincent Thomas, Anthony Edwards, Rufus Hodge and James A. Gravely.
Hairston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Vinie H. Joyce
Vinie Hester Joyce, 84, of Beverly Healthcare, 1607 Spruce St., Martinsville, died Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
She was born in Patrick County on March 4, 1922, to Samuel Lester Cassell and Elizabeth Joyce Cassell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Roy Joyce; a daughter, Carol Elizabeth Joyce; a sister, Ida Cassell; and brothers, Elder Leonard Cassell, Ralph Cassell, George Cassell, Watt Cassell, Troy Cassell and Cecil Cassell.
She was a member of Old Center Primitive Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Samuel Green Joyce of Reidsville, N.C., and Donald Joyce of Collinsville; two brothers, Daniel Cassell of Bassett and L.G. Cassell of Fieldale; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Collins Funeral chapel with Elders Carl Terry and Mark Terry officiating. Burial will be in Old Center Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
