Mr. Wallace Walker Bishop, age 40 of Baskerville, died Friday, August 20, 2004 at his residence. He was the owner and operator of A & W Construction Co. He was predeceased by his father Wallace H. Bishop and two brothers Robert and Gregory Bishop and is survived by his mother and stepfather Margaret J. and Ronald L Clary of South Hill; his sister and her husband Patricia B. and Thomas H. Roberts of Chase City; a niece Tiffany Roberts; three nephews Grayson Bishop, Gregory and Jeffrey Roberts. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A. M. Tuesday at Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 until 8:30 P. M. at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory.

Mr. Thomas Gordon Cliborne
May 7, 1939 - August 29, 2004
Mr. Thomas Gordon Cliborne, age 65 of South Hill, died Sunday, August 29, 2004. He was the owner and operator of the former Tom’s Import Center, an auto shop in South Hill and an Army veteran. He is survived by his companion of 13 years Lisa D. Maitland; a daughter Elizabeth Mae Cliborne of South Hill; three sons Thomas G., Jr. and Joseph Cliborne both of South Hill and Tim G. Cliborne of Ebony; a brother James Cliborne of South Hill and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 A. M. Wednesday at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home.

Mr. Walter Mark Thomas Reynolds
June 17, 1960 - September 11, 2004
Mr. Walter Mark Thomas Reynolds, 44, of Woodstock, Ga. died Saturday, September 11, 2004 in Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. He was a file clerk at Pinnacle Orthopedics. Mr. Reynolds is survived by his mother Gladys L. Reynolds of Boydton, his devoted partner Jennifer LeCroy of Rome, Ga. , four sisters; Kim Parrish of Chase City, Julie Boyter of South Hill, Stacie Reynolds and Laurel Prince both of Boydton, several nieces and nephews, one great nephew and special friends Ashley Wilson and Jan Mabry both of Woodstock, Ga.
A Graveside funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. in Oakwood Cemetery in South Hill. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory.

Mr. Ivan Kenous "Bure" Fleming
May 11, 1933 - September 13, 2004
Mr. Ivan Kenous “Bure” Fleming, age 71 of South Hill, died Monday, September 13, 2004 at his residence. He was a retired house painter and a Korean Conflict Navy veteran. He is survived by his wife of 32 years Susan Crabtree Fleming; three daughters Rita Maine of Coeburn, Ronda Lyle of Bristol, TN and Charlotte Surratt of Wise; three sons Ivan K. Fleming, Jr. of Nashville, TN, Tony Fleming of Greenbelt, MD and Brandon Fleming of South Hill; two stepsons George and Tommy Bower both of South Hill; three sisters Luria Bush of Mount Sterling, KY, Margaret Wigginton and Juanita Mullins both of Clintwood; three brothers Virgil and Farris Fleming both of Clintwood and Jim Fleming of Battle Creek, MI; sixteen grandchildren, one great granddaughter and a great family friend Lyni Ashbrook of Clarksburg, WV. He was predeceased by a stepdaughter Barbara Bower, a sister Maxie Davis and a brother Tracie Fleming. A funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 P. M. Tuesday evening at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory, South Hill, followed by visitation. A second service will be conducted Thursday at Mullins Funeral Home in Clintwood with interment in the Fleming Family Cemetery.

Ms. Elizabeth Faye Whitby
March 28, 1919 - September 15, 2004
Miss Elizabeth F. Whitby, 85, of South Hill died Wednesday, September 15, 2004 in the W. S. Hundley Annex. She was a retired spinning attendant at Brodnax Cotton Mill. Miss Whitby was predeceased by her parents Daniel Webster and Lillie Moore Whitby, three brothers; Percy, Sydney and Lynn Whitby and four sisters; Dorma Whitby, Mattie Coley, Lucy Moseley and Gracie Johnson. Miss Whitby is survived by several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be conducted Friday at 11:00 A. M. in Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory with inurnment in Canaan cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the LaCrosse Vol. Fire Dept. or in her honor to P. O. Box 283, Brodnax, Va. 23920.

Frances Lee Writtenberry Kidd
May 13, 1938 - September 20, 2004
Mrs. Frances Lee Writtenberry Kidd, 66, of Henderson, NC, died Monday, September 20, 2004 at her residence. She was an employee of Revlon in Oxford, NC and the widow of Thomas Earl Kidd. Mrs. Kidd is survived by her mother Lizzie W. Carroll, three daughters; Emma Scriber of La Crosse, Seretha Kidd and Sandra Kidd both of Henderson, NC., three sons; Walter “Butch” Daniel of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Donald “Buck” Kidd of Henderson, NC and Kelvin Kidd of Gasburg, VA. Three sisters; Mary Ann Acree and Bonnie Bailey both of Brodnax and Molly Toone of LaCrosse. A step-daughter Virginia Espinoza, fifteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her father William Martin Carroll, a son Wallace Dale Kidd and two grandchildren Michelle Kidd and Timothy Daniel.
A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 3:00 P.M. in Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory with interment in Canaan Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at the funeral home.

Mr. Ben James Cannon
December 9, 1932 - July 29, 2004
Mr. Ben James Cannon, age 71 of Ebony, died Thursday, July 29, 2004 at his residence. He was a retired Town of South Hill employee with 20 years of service. He was the widower of Nora Newcomb Cannon and is survived by his daughter Sarah Cannon of Ebony, his son Michael Cannon of Brodnax, his mother Mary Cannon of White Plains, his sister Marie Langley of White Plains, his brother Stewart Cannon of Ebony, nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren and two step grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A. M. Saturday at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory with interment in Canaan Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 to 8:30 P. M. at the funeral home.

Willie Cleveland Smith
May 3, 1937 - August 14, 2004
Willie Cleveland Smith, 67, of LaCrosse died Saturday August 14, 2004 at his residence. He was a truck driver for Estes Express Trucking Line for 33 years and a deacon at Brodnax Assembly of God Church.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife Dorothy D. Smith, three daughters; Pamela S. James and husband Robert of LaCrosse, Wanda S. Russell and husband Doug of South Hill and Theresa Kaye Kelly of South Hill, his mother, Maude C. Smith of LaCrosse, four sisters; Frances Bell of South Hill, Leona Robertson of Union Level, Lois Smith and Linda Smith both of LaCrosse, two brothers Winfred and Sterling Smith also of LaCrosse, seven grandchildren; Douglas Russell, Dustin Russell, Christopher James, Brian James, Nicholas James, Kendall Kelly and Sydney Kelly.
A funeral service will be conducted Monday at 2:00 P.M. in Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory with interment in LaCrosse Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brodnax Assembly of God Church.

Mr. Allen Eugene Tucker
July 28, 1929 - September 21, 2004
Mr. Allen Eugene Tucker, 75, of LaCrosse, Va. formerly of Delaware, Ohio and Raleigh, NC. died Tuesday, September 21, 2004 in Wake Medical Center, Raleigh, NC.
He was a member of Beta Theta Pi , a graduate of Ohio State University, Ohio Wesleyan University and Duke University, retired General Manager of the Schrader- Bellows Corporation and a U. S. Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife of fifty three years Ruth Tucker, two daughters; Cindy Hoelen of Bracey and Debbie Trent of Raleigh, a son Allen E. Tucker, Jr. of LaCrosse, one sister Bonnie Work of Delaware, Ohio, nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1:00 P.M. in South Hill Presbyterian Church, South Hill, Va. with interment in LaCrosse Cemetery, LaCrosse, Va. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at Crowder-Hite-
Crews Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorial contributions may be made to the South Hill Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Emma Mae Thompson Ezell
May 27, 1933 - September 20, 2004
Mrs. Emma Mae Thompson Ezell, 71, of South Hill, died Monday, September 20, 2004 in Community Memorial Healthcenter. She was a former employee of BGF Industries.
She is survived by her husband Earl Ezell, her daughter Sylvia Gail Ezell of Springfield, Va. Two sisters; Lois T. Fowler of Salem, OH and Barbara T. Moore of Sandston, Va. , a grandson Robert Dale Hartsoe, Jr. of Richmond and a granddaughter Teena Marie Hartsoe of Springfield and two great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents William and Esssie Thompson and two sisters; Elizabeth T. Cornett and Dorothy T. Gilliam.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 P.M. in Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory with interment in Crestview Memorial Park .
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ephesus Baptist Church Building Fund or the Shriner‘s Crippled Children‘s Hospital.
