Bernard F. Grondin

Bernard F. Grondin, 89, of Barton died peacefully on September 4, 2009, at Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton.
Mr. Grondin was born March 18, 1920, in Barton, a son of Fred and Clara (LaClair) Grondin.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country during World War II.
For all his life he lived in Barton and owned and operated a rubbish removal business.
He is survived by his cousins: Josephine Jacks and her husband, Jack, of Kansas, Bertha Whitney and Helen Clark, both of Rhode Island, Elizabeth Valley of Barton, Mary Noyes of St. Johnsbury, and Roberta Hayward of Massachusetts.
Graveside services were held September 11 at St. Paul’s cemetery in Barton with the Reverend Sixmund Nyabenda officiating.
Arrangements are by Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Homes.

Leon W. Judd

Leon W. Judd, 90, of Rutland died August 19, 2009, at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Judd was born in Newport on May 14, 1919, a son of Arthur and Grace (Wheeler) Judd.
He was a 1938 graduate of Newport High School.
On November 25, 1944, he married Barbara E. (Armstrong) Judd, who died September 6, 2008.
He was employed by W.T. Grant Company in Newport and Rutland and at Maynard Auto Supply in Rutland, retiring in 1981.
He was a member of Memphremagog Lodge 65 of Free and Accepted Masons, the National Grange, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, and the United Methodist Church of Rutland.
Surviving are his son Robert A. Judd of Allison Park, Pennsylvania; his brother Arthur A. Judd of Newport; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara; by his son Ronald L. Judd in 2002; and by two sisters, Helen Hedges and Evelyn Dunham.
Graveside services for both Mr. and Mrs. Judd were held September 15 at Pine Grove cemetery in Newport.
Arrangements are by Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.

Lorrie (Moore) Pierce

Lorrie (Moore) Pierce, 51, of Newport died September 3, 2009, at her home.
Ms. Pierce was born June 17, 1958, in Island Pond, a daughter of Margaret (McQuire) Moore and Robert Moore.
She always opened her home to others.
She is survived by three children: Robin Carmen and Molly Coulter, both of St. Johnsbury, and Justin Pierce of Anchorage, Alaska; by her mother, Margaret Moore, of Newport; by two brothers, William Moore of Florida and Brian Moore of Brownington; and by her sister Helen LeDoux of Manchester, New Hampshire. She was predeceased by her father, Robert; and by her brother Gary.
Funeral services were held September 11 at the Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Island Pond with the Reverend Frank Connors officiating. Interment followed in Lakeside cemetery in Island Pond.
Should friends desire, contributions in Ms. Pierce’s memory may be made to Frontier Animal Society, 502 Strawberry Acres, Newport, Vermont 05855; or to the American Cancer Society, Vermont Division, 55 Day Lane, Williston, Vermont 05495.

Guy A. Vachon

Guy A. Vachon, 54, of Allenstown, New Hampshire, died Saturday, September 12, 2009, at the Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association Hospice House in Concord, New Hampshire.
Born December 15, 1954, in Newport, Mr. Vachon was a son of Florian Vachon and Solange (Turcotte) Vachon. He attended Sacred Heart School in Newport, from which he graduated in 1973.
He drove trucks most of his life, and at the time of his death worked in retail.
He loved to putt around the house and was a great cook. He enjoyed listening to the Beach Boys and drinking a good beer. He was a tender man who will be missed terribly and was loved by all.
He was the beloved husband of six years to Charlotte Vachon. His children include Sara Musgrave of Opelika, Alabama, Guy Vachon of Coaticook, Quebec, and Nicole Vachon of Allenstown. His three stepchildren from a previous marriage are Richard Langevin of Derry, New Hampshire, Colette Cusson of Hooksett, New Hampshire, and Cheryl Langevin. His three stepchildren with his wife, Charlotte, are Sarah, Frank, and Christopher Halloran, all of Allenstown. In addition, he leaves three brothers: Serge Vachon and Mario Vachon, both of Newport, and Carl Vachon of Panama City, Florida; by 16 grandchildren; by two nephews; and by a niece. He was predeceased by his parents.
Following cremation, burial will take place Thursday, September 17, at 11 a.m. at Pine Grove cemetery in Newport.

Glen Strauch Elder

A memorial celebration for University of Vermont Associate Dean Glen Strauch Elder will be held on Friday, September 25, from 2 to 3 p.m. in Ira Allen Chapel with a reception immediately following in Billings Student Center.
Mr. Elder is survived by his partner of 15 years, Michael Conley, of Derby; and by his father, Peter Elder, of Benoni, South Africa.
In remembrance of Mr. Elder, funds may be donated to support the Glen Elder Memorial Fund, which honors his lifelong commitments and interests in issues of social justice, sexuality, South Africa, and political geography. B. Glynn Bosley

B. Glynn (Archer) Bosley died on May 21, 2010, in Derby.
She was a daughter of Robert D. and Cora (Gage) Archer.
She attended East Charleston Elementary School, Charleston High School, and Lyndon Normal School.
On December 25, 1936, she married William O. Bosley and together they farmed in Holland for many years. Mr. Bosley predeceased her on April 16, 1993.
Mrs. Bosley taught school for 32 years in Maidstone, Brighton, and Holland. She retired in 1974 from the Holland school. After her retirement from teaching, she drove school bus for the Holland school for a few years.
She belonged to the Retired Teachers Association, both local and state, the Plymouth Congregational Church, the Holland Ladies Aid, and she was active in the Grange for many years.
She leaves her daughter Carrie Carter and her partner, Theron Webster, of Hinesburg; two granddaughters, Christelle Plourde and her husband, Anthony, of Farmers Branch, Texas, and Coralee Keefer of Grand Isle; six great-grandchildren: Bryhannah and Kiera Plourde of Farmers Branch, Jasmine, Madison, William, and Skylar Keefer of Grand Isle; a niece, Bonnie (Archer) McElroy, and family of Helena, Montana; and several cousins. She was predeceased by her brother Verne and his wife, Dale, of Cody, Wyoming, and by her sister Faye.
The funeral was held on Wednesday, May 26, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Anne Squire officiating. Burial at the Hillside cemetery in East Charleston followed the service.

Linwood "Pete" Chase

Linwood "Pete" Chase, 84, died at his home in Irasburg on Friday, May 28, 2010, in the care of his son and friends.
He was born in Craftsbury, April 2, 1926, a son of the late Arthur and Lou (Chadburn) Chase.
He attended school in Craftsbury and had to take over the work of the farm as a young man when his father died. He later entered the U.S. Army and served during World War II.
He married Rolinda "Dinny" Phillips in 1966, in Irasburg, where they made their home.
He was a truck driver for Hood Dairy for many years. He later drove truck for Agway and then delivered truck parts in the Northeast Kingdom area until his final retirement.
Mr. Chase was a member of the American Legion Post #21 in Newport. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and used to go snowmobiling with his late wife and friends.
He leaves a son, Bradley Chase, of Irasburg; a grandson, Tanner Amyot, of Barton; two brothers-in-law, Ray Marckres of Stowe and Rod Phillips of Irasburg; and several nephews and nieces, as well as great-nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife, "Dinny, " who died July 13, 2006; by his parents; a brother, Kenneth Chase, and his wife, Mary; three sisters: Veda Marckres and her husband, Earl, Florence Marckres, and Edith Wells and her husband, Irvine; and his sister-in-law Marlene Phillips.
A funeral service will be held at the Irasburg United Church on Thursday, June 3, at 11 a.m., with Pastor George Lawson of the Brownington Center Church officiating. Interment will be in the Irasburg cemetery.
Friends may call at the Davis Funeral Home in Craftsbury Common on Wednesday evening between 7 and 9 p.m.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 121 Cancer Way, Williston, Vermont 05495.

Kenneth M. McInnis

Kenneth M. McInnis, 80, of Holland died peacefully on May 29, 2010, in Newport.
He was born September 17, 1929, in Lincoln, New Hampshire, a son of Kenneth and Kathleen (Mullaney) McInnis.
On June 15, 1968, he married Isabel Carter, who predeceased him on June 23, 2007.
Mr. McInnis was a truck driver for Desrochers Excavating.
He enjoyed his gun collection and his Oliver tractor. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his children: Kathleen McInnis of Windsor, Michael McInnis and his wife, Joy, of Bartlett, Tennessee, Pauline Hauver-Hussey and her husband, Dennis, of Newport Center, and Albert Hauver and his wife, Viola, of Holland; by his grandchildren: Lance and his wife, Karen, Raymond and his wife, Tonia, Christopher, Sean, Rocco, Amy, and Brandi; by his great-grandchildren: Nathan, Brittni, Larissa, Ronnie, Jeoffrey, Hunter, and Meadow. He is also survived by sister-in-law Wanda McInnis of Lincoln; a nephew, Joseph, and a niece, Wendy, and her husband, Gill.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 21, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newport.

Therese M. Bisaillon

Therese M. Bisaillon, 89, of Barton died suddenly October 16, 2009, at her home.
Ms. Bisaillon was born August 22, 1920, in Coventry, a daughter of Lawrence and Alberta (Tatreault) Bergeron.
She traveled all over the world with her former husband. She moved to California, then to Miami, and back to Vermont to be with her family. She loved plants, birds, and art.
She is survived by her daughter Helen White and her husband, James, of Barton; by her granddaughter Victoria White of Barton; by her great-granddaughter Anna of Barton; by her brother Lawrence Bergeron and his wife, Adree, of Burlington; and by nieces and nephews: Michael Bergeron of Colchester, Sharon of Burlington, Lawrence and Mark Schegel of Connecticut, and David Schegel of Tennessee. She was predeceased by her son George Bisaillon; by her brother Henry Bergeron; and by two sisters, Rita Schegel and Claire Bergeron.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 22, at St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Catholic Church in Newport with the Reverend Michael Reardon celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s cemetery in Newport.
Should friends desire, contributions in Ms. Bisaillon’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
