Carol A. Geraghty

BETHEL — Carol A. Geraghty, 57, formerly of Millis, Mass., died Monday evening, July 17, 2000 at Gifford Medical Center, Randolph.

She was born March 10, 1943 in Norwood, Mass., the daughter of Clifford and Alice (Kwitkowski) Giers.

Carol attended Norwood, Mass. schools and graduated from Norwood Mass. High School in 1961 and later earned her bachelor’s degree from Framingham (Mass.) State Teachers College. She married E. Robert Geraghty in 1962 in Norwood.

She was director of the Millis (Mass.) Recreation Dept. for several years and then worked at the Framingham Savings Bank. She returned to college where she received her Masters degree in counseling psychology with a concentration in geriatrics after which she became the Senior Center Director for the town of Norwood. The Geraghtys moved to Bethel in 1997.

Carol enjoyed crafts of all kinds, was an avid reader and liked flower arranging and gardening. Her memberships included The United Church of Bethel and the Unity Circle.

She leaves her husband, E. Robert Geraghty of Bethel, a son Sean C. Geraghty of Franklin, Mass., two daughters; Lynn M. Thomas of Bethel and Kathleen A. Steeves of Whitinsville, Mass., her mother Alice Giers of Norwood, Mass., a sister Diane Cappuccino of Reading and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 22, at the Day Funeral Home, Randolph with Rev. Timothy Eberhardt officiating. Following cremation burial will be in the Fairview cemetery, Bethel.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Day Funeral Home, Randolph.

Thomas P. Graziano

RANDOLPH CENTER — Thomas Peter Graziano, 74, died Tuesday evening, Feb. 13, 2001, in Waterbury, after a long illness.

He was born November 6, 1926, in Bethel, the son of Raffaello and Mariantonia (Morrell) Graziano.

He attended Bethel schools. Following his graduation, he joined the Navy at the age of 17 and served in the Pacific during World War II.

He married Shirley Holman March 10, 1951, in Randolph.

He worked for Central Vermont Railroad for many years and later worked for the New England Line Railroad, where he was in charge of maintenance for the entire New England Line. He retired in 1983.

He loved children and sports, especially baseball. His memberships included the American Legion Post in St. Albans and the Mystic Star-Phoenix Lodge #97 F.&A.M. in Brookfield. He was also a former member of Montague Golf Club, where he had been very active in the men's league.

He leaves his wife, Shirley Graziano, of Randolph Center; three sons: David and wife Jana Graziano of Mascot, Tenn., Paul Graziano of Baltimore, Md. and wife Gail of Dorchester, Mass., and Philip and wife Debi Graziano of St. Albans; a brother, Lawrence Graziano of Bethel; five grandchildren: Tanya Star Giroux and Jeremy, Levi, Thomas and Laura Graziano; a great-granddaughter, Natalia; many nieces and a nephew.

He was pre-deceased by three brothers: John, Enrico and Salvatore Graziano; and two sisters: Mary Namnoun and Victoria LaRock.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, Feb. 19, at the Day Funeral Home with Rev. Kathy Eddy officiating. Phyllis Hawley was the organist and Paul and Philip Graziano played guitar and led everyone in singing "You Are My Sunshine." Reflections were given by granddaughter, Tanya Star, and sons, David, Paul and Philip.

Burial will be in the Vermont Veterans Memorial cemetery, Randolph Center, at a later date. Calling hours were held Sunday evening at the funeral home with Masonic Services conducted by Mystic Star - Phoenix Lodge #97 F.&A.M.

Friends may make memorial donations in his memory to Randolph Little League, c/o Jenny Lane, PO Box 372, Randolph, VT 05060.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home, Randolph.

Jeffrey A. Leno

GRANVILLE — Jeffrey A. Leno, 41, died at his home Monday, May 26, 2003. He was born in Montpelier, June 16, 1961, the son of Wendell and Jean (Culver) Leno.

He was educated in Hancock and Rochester Schools.

He enjoyed mechanics, traveling and deer hunting.

He was married to Belinda Corey. They are divorced. He leaves a son, Jason Leno, of Granville; his mother and stepfather, Ernest Billings, of North Carolina; two brothers, James Leno and Thomas Leno, both of Hancock; and a half sister, Cindy Chenoweth of Ohio.

He was pre-deceased by a sister, Linda Chenoweth.

Graveside services will be at the Hancock Village cemetery Saturday, May 31 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Dr. Bill Daniels officiating.

Calling hours will be held Friday, May 30, from 6-8 p.m. at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.

Thomas C. Pratt

BEECHER FALLS — Thomas Chapin "Chape" Pratt, 90, of Beecher Falls, died Saturday, May 24, 2003 at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital.

He was born April 2, 1913, in Gaysville, son of the late Warren and Ada (Blanchard) Pratt.

He farmed as a young man and took over the family farm in the late 1930’s. Later he was a carpenter and building contractor. He bought and sold real estate and was well known for building many of the true log cabins in the Gaysville area.

He enjoyed teaching young people carpentry, electronics and gardening. His hobbies were hunting and fishing. His relaxation was making things that worked. He designed and built a chain saw, power ice cutter, steam tractor, windmills and water wheels, boats, sawmills, etc. his motto was "if it’s manmade, it can be repaired or rebuilt." He loved to take something old and broken and turn it into something of value.

Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Martha H. Crawford Pratt; four children: Chapin A. Pratt, and wife Beverly, of The Villages, Fla.; Elizabeth "Betty" Brown of St. Cloud, Fla.; Wayne Pratt, and wife Vivian, of Gaysville; and Virginia Merrill, and husband Dennis, of Gaysville; seven step-children: Stanley Crawford of St. Cloud, Fla.; Carol Crawford of Cocoa, Fla.; Rodney Crawford, and wife Dorothy, of Dudley, Mass.; a step-daughter-in-law, June Crawford of Westfield, WI, Vernon Crawford, and wife Bonnie, of Canaan; Donald Crawford, and wife Anne Marie of So. Burlington; Harland Crawford, and wife Odette, of Canaan; and Calvin Crawford, and wife Laurie, of Groveton, N.H.; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

He was pre-deceased by his first wife of 53 years, Doris (Simonds) Pratt; and infant daughter, Alice Ann Pratt; three brothers; and one sisterand a step-son, Robert Crawford.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 29, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church in Canaan, Vt. with the Reverend Rodney Dobbs officiating. An interment service will be held on Friday, May 30 at 2 p.m. in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Gaysville.

Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church, c/o The Reverend Rodney Dobbs, P.O. Box 247, Canaan, Vt. 05903.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jenkins Funeral Home, Colebrook, N.H.

Howard J. Rainey

RANDOLPH — Howard J. Rainey, 81, of Randolph, died Friday, May 23, 2003 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in White River Junction.

He was born April 11, 1922 in Whitefield, N.H.; the son of John E. and Mary Ann (Day) Rainey. He grew up in Randolph, and graduated from Randolph High School, where he was active in baseball and basketball. A member of Randolph High’s first state championship basketball team, Howard later tried out for the Brooklyn Dodgers. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.

He married Vera Manning in Randolph Oct. 18, 1942. She died in 1993. He married Loraine Chase in Randolph in 1994.

He had been a machinist in Springfield; owned and operated his own long haul trucking business, and drove a taxicab in Randolph. He then owned pool halls in Randolph, Bethel, Newport, Northfield and Barre, and sold and restored pool tables all over New England.

A lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion, he enjoyed league bowling, fishing, hunting, and camping.

Survivors include his wife, Loraine Chase of Randolph; son, Devon Rainey and his wife, Diane L. of Barnard; daughter, Sandi Thurston and her companion, Ray Bowen, of Georgia, Vt.; Stepsons, Robert Chase of Bethel and Steven Chase of Stockbridge; stepdaughter, Sally Rader of Chicago, Ill.; sister, Leota Hoffman; sister-in law, Jean Slaughter of Sacramento, Calif.; three grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; step grandchildren and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 30 at the Pleasant View cemetery in Randolph, with Rev. Kathy Eddy, officiating, and full military honors. There are no calling hours.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Randolph Union High School Athletic Fund, 15 Forest Street, Randolph, Vt. 05060. Arrangements are by the Day Funeral Home.
