Cheryl Lee Densmore

HARDWICK - Cheryl Lee Densmore, 54, of Mackville Road, Hardwick, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, June 12, 2001 at the Fletcher Allen Medical Center in Burlington.

She was born August 13, 1946 in Providence, RI. The daughter of Benjamin A. and Hope (Kingman) Berard.

On September 23, 1967 she married Victor Henry Densmore, in Barnet.

She attended Hardwick public schools, and graduated from Hardwick Academy in the class of 1964. Cheryl later continued her education at Johnson State College, graduating in 1997 with a degree in English.

Cheryl was a homemaker for many years. She was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was very interested in quilting and all handcrafts. She especially enjoyed the time that she spent at craft shows, where she made many life long friends. She was also very interested in peoples rights, animal rights and conservation issues.

She was a member of the United Church of Hardwick, and the Women’s Circle #7 of that church. Survivors include her husband, Victor of 33 years, a daughter Naomi Densmore, both of Hardwick; a son, Sabin Densmore, his wife, Danielle, and a grandson, Gabriel Densmore, all of Beverly, MA. Her mother, Hope Norton, of Wolcott; two brothers, Benjamin A. Berard Jr., of Providence, RI, and Mark F. Demuth, of Johnson; two sisters, Lindy Lou Gomes, of Morrisville, and Jody Marie Crane, of Groton, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and a cousin.

She was predeceased by her father, Benjamin Berard, Sr.

A memorial service was held on Friday, June 15, 2001 at the United Church of Hardwick, with the Rev. Dr. June Totten, officiating.

In lieu of flowers contributions in her memory may be made to the North Country Animal League, 3524 Laporte Road, Morrisville, VT 05661, or to the animal shelter of your choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Dian R. Holcomb of Northern Vermont Funeral Service, 60 Elm Street, Hardwick.

Thomas Clayton Vanderhoven

CAMBRIDGE - Thomas Clayton Vanderhoven, 94, of South Main Street, Cambridge passed away peacefully at his home, Thursday evening, June 14, 2001. He was born March 18, 1907 in Rahway, NJ, son of the late Jesse William and Mary Ellen (O’Conner) Vanderhoven.

He married the former Gertrude Orton of Fairfax. She predeceased him on March 18, 1974.

He was employed as a field engineer with the state of New Jersey for many years.

Tom loved Vermont’s great outdoors fishing and hunting in this area over the years with his good friend and hunting and fishing partner Francis Cowie. He also had a great appreciation for art work and oil paintings.

He was friendly to all with a great sense of humor and will be greatly missed by all of those who had the good fortune to know and love him.

He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Jean Klingman; three grandchildren, Thomas Gates, Betty Gates and Barbie Gates; a great-granddaughter, Emily Gates, all of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by a brother, Leslie and three sisters, Margaret, Eleanor and Vivian.

Funeral services were held at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 20, with the Reverend Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Burial followed in the family lot in Sanderson Corners cemetery, Fairfax.

Memorial contributions in Tom’s memory memory may be made to Cambridge Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 431, Jeffersonville, VT 05464 or Lamoille Home Health and Hospice, 54 Farr Avenue, Morrisville, VT 05661. Arrangements were by the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, 1176 Main Street, Fairfax.

Victoria Foster Ducharme

MORRISVILLE - Mrs. Victoria Foster Ducharme, died at Copley Hospital in Morrisville, on Tuesday, June 19, 2001. She is survived by a daughter Mrs. William (Doris) Bianche, of Trenton, NJ, and a son, Phillip Bessette, of Morrisville; two grandchildren, Denise Larkin and Christopher Bianche and a great-grandchild, Madeline, all of New Jersey. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Gloria Bessette, of Essex Junction and Mrs. Cecile Wood, of Upton, MA, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a husband, Moses Bessette, in 1966, and by a husband, Paul Foster, July 12, 1999. By request of the deceased there will be no visiting hours. A mass at Holy Cross Church in Morrisville and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of des Groseilliers Funeral Homes, Main Street, Johnson.

Sean Thomas Jarvis

CAPITOLLA, CA - Sean Thomas Jarvis of Capitolla, CA, died Saturday, June 9, 2001.

He was born on April 22, 1968, in Burlington, the son of Charles H. and Marilyn (Curtin) Jarvis. He grew up in Morrisville, graduating from Peoples Academy in 1985.

Sean married his soul mate Gillian (McGuire) Jarvis on December 21, 2000.

Sean had worked at P & C and Price Chopper as night manager until he moved to California in 1993. After his move, he continued working in the grocery business, first at Greentree Markets in Santa Cruz and then at Whole Foods in San Jose.

While in California, Sean discovered the challenge of physical activities leading to his participation in triathlon. Sean had competed in Canada and the United States, one race having been in Lake Placid, NY, August 15, 1999, where family and friends on the East Coast were able to attend and enjoy his success. Sean is survived by his beloved wife Gillian; his parents, Charles H. Jarvis, of Monterey, CA and Marilyn C. Jarvis, of Morrisville; maternal grandmother, Margaret Curtin, of Pawcatuck, CT; a brother, Joel Jarvis, of Morrisville; a sister, Gretchen Jarvis, her partner Brian Judkins and their children, Brandon, Taylor and Dailyn, of Hyde Park; a special friend, Bob Heinbokel, of Monterey, CA; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. His sister, Allison Jarvis, maternal uncle, Brad Curtin, and grandparents Thomas P. Curtin, Douglas and Edna (Ward) Jarvis preceded him in death.

A private family internment was held at Isle LaMotte cemetery in Isle Lamotte on Sunday, June 17, 2001. Services will be held in California on July 1, 2001. Pacific Garden’s Chapel, Santa Cruz, CA, was in charge of arrangements.

Mavis Mansfield Robinson

STOWE - Mavis Mansfield Robinson, age 65, of Stowe, left us peacefully on Monday, June 18, 2001, at the Morrisville Genesis ElderCare Center, after a brief battle with cancer. She was born in Stowe on June 18, 1936, the daughter of the late Stanley and Lura Mansfield.

Throughout the different stages of her life, Mavis always seemed to take care of others. Whether it was the times she was able to stay home and take care of not only her own children, but children of other families or tending to those she worked for during her working years of cleaning homes.

Mavis was a graduate of the Stowe High School Class of 1954. Among her many interests she enjoyed crossword puzzles, knitting, gardening and cheering on her favorite Winston Cup driver, Dale Jarret.

Mavis is survived by her brother, Wendall Mansfield and his wife Phyllis of Stowe, her three children, Robert Whitcomb and wife Paula of Middlebury, (Robert's children Laughton, Asa, and Libby, of Wilmington, and Paula's sons Dylan, Dennis Degree, of Middlebury) her son Robbie Robinson, of Winooski, and her daughter Martha Lambert (Martha's sons Bradley and Mark, of South Burlington).

She was predeceased by her husband Wendell Robinson in 1987 and by her long time companion Wayne Wells in December 2000, and by her three brothers Tracy, Elroy and Walter Mansfield. Mavis is also survived by Wayne's five children, Larry Wells and companion Anita, Vickie McLaughlin and her husband Kevin, Dianne Heath, Melvin Wells and wife Helen, Wanda Chamberland and husband Ray, and their families that consist of 15 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. Also included are daughters-in-law Maggie Libby, Karen Groseclose, Susan Gibbs and sons-in-law Steve Lambert, and George Spoerl.

Mavis was loved by all and will be missed greatly, but she will always be with us in our hearts and memories.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, June 20, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Stafford Funeral Home in Stowe. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 21 at 2 p.m. at the Standard Church in Waterbury Center, with interment to follow at the West Branch cemetery in Stowe. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Morrisville Genesis ElderCare Center in Morrisville, VT 05661.

Arrangements are under the care of the Stafford Funeral Home in Stowe.

Louis E. Marineau

MONTPELIER - Louis E. Marineau died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, in Central Vermont Hospital.

Louis founded Louis E. Marineau & Sons painting and papering contractor business in 1936.

He is survived by his six children, Lynn Guare and her husband, Paul of East Montpelier, Brenda Langevin of Randolph, Brian and his wife, Lorelle, of Lake Elmore, Leslie and his wife, Peggy, of Montpelier, Mark and his wife, Shelchapter, of Barre, and Michele Walker and her husband, Jeff, of Morristown; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Lorette Marineau of Montpelier, Lillian Whipple, of Newport, and Marguerite Bancroft, of Cape Coral, FL and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Augustine Church on Friday with a reception following in the parish hall. A private burial took place in Lake Elmore cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael’s School, 46 Barre Street, Montpelier, VT; Vermont Catholic Charities, P.O. Box 489, Burlington, VT 05402-0489; or Craftsbury Community Center Activities Fund, 1784 East Craftsbury Road, Craftsbury, VT 05826.

Ellen Dustan Grizzle

CRAFTSBURY COMMON - Ellen Dustan Grizzle, 85, of Craftsbury Common died Friday, June 15, 2001, in Greensboro Nursing Home, in Greensboro, after a long illness.

She was born in Craftsbury Common on October 30, 1915, the daughter of William and Helen (Paterson) Dustan.

She graduated from Craftsbury Academy in 1934.

For several years, she was employed at the Mary Fletcher Hospital pharmacy department before taking a course in X-ray technology at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. Following that, she was employed at Syracuse Hospital in Syracuse, NY. She later accepted a position in X-ray technology in Wenatchee, WA, where she met and married Walter Grizzle in 1958. They shared a deep interest in astronomy.

Mrs. Grizzle returned to Craftsbury Common in 1982from Spokane, WA, where she had made her home with her sister, Laura Dustan. She was a member of the United Church of Craftsbury, the Searchlight Club and Ladies Union, and she continued her interest in astronomy.

She is survived by three sisters, Augusta Dustan, Louisa Levine and Laura Dustan, all of Craftsbury Common; a nephew and a niece. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter Grizzle, in 1979, and her sister, Dr. Harriet Dustan, in 1999.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, June 19 in the United Church of Craftsbury, Craftsbury Common, with he Rev. Ben Thurber officiating. Contributions in her memory may be made to Greensboro Nursing Home, Greensboro, VT 05841. The Malcolm R. Davis Funeral Home of Craftsbury Common was in charge of arrangements.

Veronica C. Gibson

STOWE / HYDE PARK - Veronica C. Gibson passed away after a short illness at Copley Manor Nursing Home on Sunday, June 3, 2001.

Everyone called her Bonnie. She was bright and sparkley at 98 years old. Bonnie was born in Staten Island, NY, on May 8, 1903. In 1926, she married Samuel Gibson, who was a policeman in the newly organized Emergency Squad. Bonnie worked for Western Electric and in later years, at American Express. Her first love, however, was singing, which she performed on stage as a young woman.

Bonnie was a humanist. She loved everybody and died with a broad smile on her face. Her family will miss her. She had the two best children, Veronica Fyfe, of Hyde Park and Sam Gibson, of Delaware; a brother, Thomas McCall; her daughter-in-law, Doris Gibson; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

A memorial funeral mass was celebrated Thursday, June 7 in St. Teresa’s Church, Hyde Park. All who knew her are invited to attend. Her family requests contributions in her memory be made to Lamoille Home Health and Hospice, 54 Farr Avenue, Morrisville, VT 05661.

Pauline R. (Benjamin) Allrutz

HYDE PARK - Pauline R. (Benjamin) Allrutz, of Hyde Park, formerly of Yarmouth, MA, passed away Friday, June 1, 2001. Beloved wife of the late Henry F. "Fritz" Allrutz. Loving mother of Paul Benjamin and his wife Robin of South Yarmouth, MA, Diane Schildkraut and her husband Bob of Waltham, MA. Dear grandmother of Corey and Katie Benjamin and Gene Schildkraut. Funeral services were held at Newton cemetery, 791 Walnut St. Newton, MA, on Tuesday, June 5. Relatives and friends were invited.

In Lieu of flowers, donations in Pauline's memory may be made to American Heart Association 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. Arrangements were by Brady and Fallon Funeral Home, Boston, MA.

Norman A. Lang

Pittsford - Norman A. Lang, 65, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at his home in Pittsford.

He was born August 3, 1935, in Burlington, the son of Howard and Florence (Ayers) Lang.

Norman retired from the U.S. Air Force after 27 years of service, serving in several foreign countries and stateside location, but, abov all, he loved his home state of Vermont, which he called "God’s country." Upon retirement from the Air Force, he became a counselor and most recently worked with Rutland Mental Health Services.

He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing and camping.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy (Scribner) Lang of Pittsford; a son, Michael Lang and his fiancé, Debbie Jette, of Lebanon, NH; a daughter, Shari Scolaro and her husband Sandy, of Inwood, WV; a sister, Morna Johnston of Montpelier; a sister-in-law, Joyce Lang of Stowe; five grandsons, Anthony, Philip, Patrick, Alexander and Benjamin; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Carroll Lang. Funeral services were held Wednesday in St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Pittsford. Graveside committal services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Riverbank cemetery in Stowe.

Contributions to Norman’s memory may be made to American Cancer Society, Vermont Division, Inc., 13 Loomis St., Montpelier, VT 05602, or Rutland County Humane Society, P.O. Box 558, Pittsford, VT 05763.

Frank Nathan Colgrove

WOLCOTT - Frank Nathan Colgrove, 93, of Wolcott died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, in Copley Hospital in Morrisville, surrounded by family and loved ones.

He was born July 26, 1907, in Wolcott, the son of John N. and Emma (Alger) Colgrove. He attended Wolcott public schools and Craftsbury Academy, graduating with the Class of 1927.

May 1, 1935, he married Eva Beatrice Fisk in East Craftsbury.

In his earlier years, he was employed by Earl Hayden, doing road construction. Following his marriage, he and his wife purchased a dairy farm in Wolcott, which they owned and operated for more than 66 years. He was a well-known maple syrup producer.

Frank was a member of the Wolcott United Methodist Church and a past member of the Town of Wolcott Selectboard. His interests included hunting, fishing and gardening. Survivors include his wife, Eva, of Wolcott; two daughters, Velma White, of Danville and Donna Phelps, of Morrisville; three grandchildren, Wendy Blake, of Woodbury, Terry Barrett, of Morrisville, and Gail Phelps, of Stowe; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Grace Morse, of Gorham, ME; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by two brothers, George Colgrove Sr. and John Colgrove; and two sisters, Mildred Clark and Rose Rogers.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 2 in the Northern Vermont Funeral Home, 60 Elm Street, Hardwick. Burial followed in the family lot in Pleasant View cemetery in Morrisville. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Lamoille Home Health and Hospice, 54 Farr Avenue, Morrisville, VT 05661.

Grace Marjorie Rockwell

Grace Marjorie Rockwell, 89, of Barton died peacefully April 2, 2008, at Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton.

Mrs. Rockwell was born June 28, 1918, in Boston, Massachusetts, a daughter of Edgar and Eveline (McMurray) Wentworth.

On June 18, 1939, she married Charles Rockwell, who predeceased her on August 24, 1994.

She enjoyed knitting afghans for her family, snowmobiling with her sons, going for rides, looking out her picture window at Crystal Lake, and helping her daughter Audrey in the greenhouse. She adored cats and was a NASCAR fan, especially of driver Bill Elliott.

She is survived by her children Audrey Rockwell of Barton and Richard Rockwell and his wife, Georgette, of Barton; by her grandchildren: Rhonda, Robert Jr., Donald Jr., Wendy, Laura, Angela, Charlie, Steven, and Kelly; by great-grandchildren: Garrett, Austin, Marina, Ryan, Justin, Dave, Megan, Cameron, Ashley, and Brandon; by her daughters-in-law Norma Rockwell of Barton and Elizabeth Labrecque of Glover; by sisters Audrey Frank of Falmouth, Massachusetts, and Dorothy Wentworth of Beverly Hills, Florida; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sons: Robert and Donald Rockwell; and by brothers: Sonny, William, and David Wentworth.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on May 17 at Westlook cemetery in Glover with the Reverend Evelyn Coupe officiating.

Arrangements are by Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Homes.

Dorothy Yvette Mason

Dorothy Yvette Mason, 84, of Albany died peacefully April 3, 2008, at her home.

Mrs. Mason was born December 4, 1923, in Center Falls, Rhode Island, a daughter of Joseph and Loretta (Adams) Laverdiere.

On April 21, 1941, she married Maynard Mason, who survives her. She and her husband raised their children on the family dairy farm they had for 63 years.

She made cakes, enjoyed crocheting and quilting, and loved crossword puzzles, gardening, and canning. She was very proud that when she was in her sixties, she received her general equivalency diploma.

She is survived by her husband, Maynard Mason, of Albany; by children: Donald Mason and his wife, Guyla, of East Calais, Gary Mason and his wife, Valvette, of Albany, Priscilla Mason of Hardwick, Paulette Webster and her husband, Mark, of Irasburg, Roger Mason and his friend, Bonnie McGregor, of Albany, and Randy Mason and his wife, Carole, of Albany; by 12 grandchildren; by 11 great-grandchildren; by sister-in-law Joyce Laverdiere of North Granby, Connecticut; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Norman and by her sister Violet Doyle.

A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Irasburg cemetery.

Should friends desire, contributions in Mrs. Mason’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, Vermont Affiliate, 434 Hurricane Lane, Williston, Vermont 05495.

Arrangements are by Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Homes.
