June S. Kloss

Mrs. June Kloss, of Webster St. in Port Washington, passed away at Columbia-St. Mary’s Ozaukee Campus in Mequon early Thursday morning, November 20, 2003. She was 81 years old. June was born March 28, 1922 in Milwaukee, daughter of Martin and Agatha Laubach Inkmann. She was united in marriage to Paul Kloss at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Milwaukee on July 6, 1946. Mrs. Kloss worked as a payroll supervisor at Bolens for many years, but was well known for all of her volunteer work that she did throughout the community. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Port Washington, where she also did bookkeeping on a volunteer basis and served communion. She was a volunteer at St. Alphonses Hospital in Port Washington, and continued that service at St. Mary’s Hospital in Mequon. She was a member of the VFW Auxillary #5373 and enjoyed golf, bowling, dancing and painting. She is survived by her husband Paul, their 2 daughters Judy Agness and Terri Hains, both of Splendora, TX, and 1 son, Paul (Anne) Kloss II of New Glarus. She is further survived by 6 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, 2 sisters, Jane (Milt ) Roepke and Lee (Rocky) DeFilippis, both of Port Washington, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by 1 brother, Martin Inkmann. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, November 24, 2003 9AM at St. Peters Catholic Church in Port Washington. Father Joseph Haas will officiate. Entombment will be in St. Mary’s Mausoleum. Visitation will be at the Eernisse Funeral in Port Washington Sunday from 4-7PM.

Harold “Fizz” Last

Harold Last, age 83 years of 501 N. Holden Street, Port Washington died of prostate cancer on Wednesday, November 19, 2003 at St. Mary’s Hospice in Milwaukee where he had been a patient for the past week. He was born November 19, 1920 in Port Washington, son of the late William and Johanna Schmitz Last. Harold served in the U.S. Army during WW II and married Betty Ann Hoppe on May 29, 1948 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Port Washington. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Muehlberg Gravel and Schmitz Ready Mix and was a filtration plant operator for the City of Port Washington Water Department from 1972 until retiring in February, 1988. He served on the Port Washington Fire Department from 1946 until retiring in 1986. Survivors include his wife Betty Ann, four children JoAnn (Walter) Foth of Cedarburg, Dan (Sue) Last of Washington, MI, Larry (Barb) Last of Moulton, AL and Ron (Mary) Last of West Palm Beach, FL, 18 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Arnold. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 22, 12 noon at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Port Washington. Burial will be in St. Mary’s cemetery. Friends may call at the Eernisse Funeral Home Saturday from 9:30 until 11:30 A.M. Memorials to St. Mary’s Endowment Fund or Port Washington Firefighters Memorial Fund appreciated.

EDWARD R. STEFANIAK

Mr. Ed Stefaniak of 7th Avenue in Grafton passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by his family Saturday morning, November 15, 2003. He was 83 years old. Ed was born in Milwaukee on October 28, 1920, son of Joseph and Hattie Domrois Stefaniak. He went into the US Army and served over seas in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater. On August 10, 1946 Ed was united in marriage to Eldora Krueger in Marathon County, Wisconsin. Mr. Stefaniak worked as a machinist at Square D in Milwaukee for 37 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the American Legion, Rose Harms Post 355 and enjoyed all sorts of outdoors activities, including fishing, hunting and trap shooting, bowling and was especially fond of going to reunions with his Army buddies. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Eldora, their three sons, Edward Jr. (Maxine) of Muskego, Scott of Saukville and Steven (Jeri) of the Town of Polk, 6 grandchildren, 1 brother. Lawrence of Muskego, and 1 sister, Virginia Hebermeyer of Valencia, CA. He is further survived by 2 sisters-in-law, Helen Hintz of Spring Hill, TN and Mary Stefaniak of Muskego, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by 1 brother, Leonard. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2003, 1PM, at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington, with Rev. Kenneth Schmidt officiating. A walk-through and short Veterans service by Rose Harms Post 355 will follow. Mr. Stefaniak will be laid to rest in the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial cemetery in Union Grove. The family will receive visitors at the Funeral Home Sunday from 12PM until 1PM. Memorials are suggested to the American Legion Rose Harms Post 355 or to Trinity Lutheran Church. The family wishes to extend a special Thank You to the dedicated and caring staff of Heartland Care and Hospice.

VIOLA J. ANDERSON

Ms. Viola Anderson, formerly of Fredonia, passed away Sunday evening, November 16, 2003, at Lasata Care Center in Cedarburg. She was 88 years old. Viola was born on December 3, 1914, daughter of Peter D. and Susan Didier Kultgen in the Town of Port Washington. She raised her family in rural Port Washington and was a shipping clerk at Sprague Electric in Grafton, retiring in 1980. Ms. Anderson was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Port Washington and enjoyed embroidery and baking. She was well known for wonderful popcorn balls, German potato salad and homemade bread. Viola is survived by her 5 children, Dennis Anderson of Fredonia, Carol Roska of Waupun, Sandra (Donald) Truebenbach of Fredonia, Beverly Anderson of Port Washington and Deborah Lenz of West Bend. She is further survived by 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson. She is preceded in death by 1 son, Roger, 3 sisters, 3 brothers and her special friend Thomas Pawley. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, November 20, 7PM at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 403 W. Foster St., Port Washington. Pastor John Klieve will officiate Burial will be in Union cemetery, Port Washington. The family will receive friends at the Church Thursday from 4-7PM. Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Elizabeth J. Klopp “Betty”

Mrs. Elizabeth J. “Betty” Klopp age 76 of Port Washington, passed away on November 13, 2003 at Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital, Columbia Campus in Milwaukee. Betty was born in Port Washington on August 8, 1927, daughter of the late Orlie and Florence Morgan Sturges. On May 7, 1949 she married Ralph “Red” Klopp at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Port Washington. Mrs. Klopp worked as a secretary for Ozaukee County Social Services for over 15 years. Betty was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grafton. She enjoyed reading, golfing, fishing, enjoying the family home on Shawano Lake, vacationing in Florida, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 54 years Ralph of Port Washington, 2 sons Craig of the Town of Grafton and Steve (Dianna) Klopp of Silver Creek. She is further survived by 4 grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by 1 son Daniel and 1 brother Robert Sturges. Funeral services were held on Monday November 17, 2003 at 11 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grafton with Rev. Kenton Wendorf and Rev. Vernon Heim officiating. Burial was in Union cemetery in Port Washington. Visitation was held at the Church Monday Morning. In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church. Eernisse Funeral Home, Port Washington is assisting the family.

June C. Schowalter

Mrs. June Schowalter age 67, of the Town of Saukville passed away November 6, 2003 at Chesapeake General Hospital in Chesapeake, VA. June was born on May 2, 1936 in Port Washington daughter of the late Richard and Adeline Opitz Nagrocki. She attended Port Washington High School, graduating in 1954. On May 6, 1961 she married James M. Schowalter at Friedens Evangelical Church. Mrs. Schowalter currently worked as office manager for Eernisse Funeral Homes, and earlier for various local car dealerships as a secretary.

June was a life-long member of Friedens Evangelical Church, where she was active in the Afternoon Guild and as a Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the Port Washington American Legion Auxiliary Port 82 and the Windjammers Drum & Bugle Corp. June also enjoyed volunteering at the Food Pantry, Interfaith Care Givers, bowling, traveling to casinos, her pool, spending time at her home on Wallace Lake on her special swing, and quality time with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Jim, her children Susan, Scott (Julie) and the late Stuart Schowalter. She is further survived by 4 grandchildren; Nichole, Shannon, Brent and Amber, 1 great-granddaughter Johanna “Little-G”, 1 sister JoAnne (Earl) Jacobson, 2 brothers James (Mary) and Daniel (Judy) Nagrocki, 2 sisters-in-law Shirley Nagrocki and Dolores (Robert) Schmitz, 1 brother-in-law Robert (Pam) Loof, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, son Stuart, and her brother Gerald Nagrocki.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday November 11, 2003, 7 PM at Friedens Evangelical Church 454 N. Milwaukee St. Port Washington. Burial will take place at Union cemetery in Port Washington. Visitation will be at the Eernisse Funeral Home, Port Washington on Tuesday from 3-6:30 PM. Memorials suggested in June’s name to Friedens Church or the Food Pantry.

Ethel Ann Schuessler Depies

The Lord peacefully called Ethel Ann Depies, 72, of 7261 Luxemburg Lane, Dacada to heaven on Wednesday, November 5, 2003.

She was born in the Town of Fredonia on February 28, 1931, the daughter of the late Norbert and Sedonia Schuessler. On June 17, 1950 she married Richard E. Depies at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Dacada. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June of 2000. They farmed on the Depies homestead in the Town of Fredonia, retiring in 1992. They enjoyed their retired years living in Dacada.

Mrs. Depies was a member of the Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, St. Nicholas Chapel, Dacada, the Christian Mothers Society, various card clubs and volunteer organizations. She was a very dedicated member of the St. Nicholas Choir for over 60 years. She was known for her incredible flower gardens, beautifully decorated cakes, love of travel and her never-ending energy and giving spirit for her family, friends and community.

Survivors include her husband, Richie, and 7 children; Terry (Linda) of Antigo, Tom (Mary) of Sherman Center, Rick of Dacada, Jeff (Theresa) of Springbrook, Pat (Misti) of Dacada, Sherri (Mark) Orth of Oconto and Cindy (Keith) Streitenberger of Merton. Nineteen grandchildren; Craig, Stacy (Steve), Freddy, Shawn, Kevin, Mike, Marsha, Ashley, Adam, Amanda, Kristen, Kari, Ivy, Ed, Norbert, Jerome, Ambrose, Brittni and Brandin.

Great-grandchildren; Camden and Chase. She was preceded in death by her parents and 1 brother, Bud.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30AM. on Monday, November 10 at St. Nicholas Chapel, Dacada. Fr. Richard Cerpich, will be the celebrant. Visitation will be at the Eernisse Funeral Home (171 N. Royal Ave.) Belgium, on Sunday, November 9 from 4 -8PM and Monday, November 10, 9:30-10:30 AM at the church. Burial will be in the St. Nicholas cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in Ethel Ann’s name with the American Heart Assn. and the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Richie and his family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Matthews, his wonderful staff and the compassionate nurses of the St. Nicholas Home Health and Hospice.

ALFRED H. MENTZEL

Alfred Mentzel, age 85 years of Mequon Care Center, formerly of Grafton died Monday evening, November 3, 2003. He was born February 21, 1918 in Grafton, son of Carl and Ida Ley Mentzel. He graduated from Grafton High School and Married Evelyn Dahm on May 1, 1943 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grafton. She preceded him in death in 2001. Mr. Mentzel worked as a tool and die maker and retired from Orion Corp. in Grafton in 1980. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grafton. Survivors include his children Alfred L. (Annette) Mentzel of Grafton, Carol Kempke of Waukesha, Robert (Barbara) Mentzel of Tulsa, OK and Helen (Patrick) Lewis of Great Falls, MT, grandchildren Timothy (Julia) Mentzel, Bryan (Deana) Mentzel, Kristin Ulmen, Lori (Robert) Marien, Greg Kempke, Vicki Kempke, Katie Mentzel, Leah Mentzel, Brandon (Crystal), Jennifer and Michael Lewis, great grandchildren Taylor, Tyce, Alex, Sarah and Zoe, 1 sister in law Erna Dahm, other relatives and friends. Funeral Friday, November 7, 1 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Grafton with Rev. Kenton Wendorf officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. In state at the CHURCH Friday after 11 A.M. In lieu of flowers memorials to St. Paul School Library or Gymnasium appreciated. The family wishes to express special thanks to the staff at Mequon Care Center and VITAS Hospice.

DELORES M. DIMMER

Mrs. Delores Dimmer, age 81 years, of Hwy CC in the Town of Sherman, passed away as the result of a car accident on November 3, 2003. Delores was born November 27, 1921 in the Town of Belgium, daughter of Nicholas and Ann Schueller Thomes. On November 27, 1946 she was united in marriage with Clarence Dimmer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lake Church. The couple farmed in the Fredonia and Dacada area, before operating an excavating business. Clarence preceded her in death in 1988. Mrs. Dimmer was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, St. Nicholas Chapel, Dacada. She loved working outside and “puttering” in her yard. In the winters she spent time quilting. She enjoyed baking pies and kuchens and keeping busy. She took good care of her family and was always there to help when she was needed. Delores is survived by her 2 daughters, Jean (Dennis) Roehr and Nancy (Gerald) Thill, both of Random Lake, 5 grandchildren: Michael, Andrew (fiancé Rebecca Krall), Matthew, Adam and Sarah Thill, 2 step-grandchildren, Katie (Rob) Kilbourne and Deanna (Eric) Otten, 1 great-grandchild, Tayler Lynn Otten, 1 sister, Gladys (Robert) Gall of Cedarburg, brothers-and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, 1 son, Ronald, and 1 brother, Archilbald Thomes. Funeral Services will be held Friday, November 7, 2003 7PM from the Funeral Home going to Our Lady of The Lakes Parish, St. Nicholas Chapel for Mass of Christian Burial at 7:30 PM. Father Richard Cerpich will officiate. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the parish cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 171 N. Royal Ave. (Park St. & Hwy LL) Belgium, Friday from 3-7PM.

Dr. Frederick J. Bucheger, DDS “Doc”
Col. US Army (Ret.)

Dr. Fred Bucheger, DDS age 81 years of Fredonia, completed is service to God, Country and Family on November 2, 2003. He took up his new command with his wife of 60 years and his children at his bedside at home.

Born April 27, 1922 in Peeksville, WI, son of the late Joseph and Mary Fischer Bucheger. He married Auda Mae Whittington on August 4, 1943 in Glidden, WI.

Doc graduated from Glidden High School in 1939. He then attended Baylor and Iowa Universities under the direction of the US Army Engineering Corp. He then attended Marquette University School of Dentistry in 1950. He served is country in WWII and the Korean War.

Col. Bucheger was also a member of the Wisconsin National Guard, 32nd Division (Red Arrow), 135 Medical Battalion and spent 20 years with the Army Reserves 312th. He retired from the Army in 1982 as a Colonel. He was a member of the VFW Post 5373 and American Legion Post 410.

Dr. Bucheger served the Fredonia area as their dentist for 30 years.

Fred was an active member of the school board for the Northern Ozaukee School District for 6 years and helped start up Boy Scout Troop #877 in Fredonia. His greatest interests were his grandchildren, gardening and bowling.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Auda Mae, three children Eloise Bonds of Green Bay, Diana Janssen (special friend Brian Singer) of Reedsville, and Fredic (Barbara) Bucheger of Grafton. He is further survived by 5 grandsons; Robert and Timothy Grandaw, Jason Nikolay and Zachary and Samuel Bucheger, 3 great-grandchildren; Brittany, Joshua and Ryan Grandaw, 3 brothers; Alvin (Carol) of Brookfield, Kenneth (Joan) of Glidden, and Leonard (Jo) of North Edwards, CA, 2 sisters Mary (Eugene) Jochim of NE, and Arlene (Garth) Weiss of Glidden. He was preceded in death by his young son Mark, his parents, 3 brothers and 1 sister.

Doc will be greatly missed by his Scottie dog, Mac, the morning “Breakfast Bunch” and his bowling buddies.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday November 8, 2003 at Holy Rosary Parish, St. Rose Chapel in Fredonia, with Father Dick Fleischman officiating. Fred will be buried with full military honors on Saturday at St. Rose of Lima cemetery in Fredonia. Friends may call at the Eernisse Funeral Home 1600 W. Grand Ave. Port Washington on Friday November 7th from 4-8 PM and again on Saturday November 8th at the Church from 10-11 AM. A combined Legion and VFW ceremony will be held on Friday at 6:30 PM.

A sincere Thank You to all the wonderful friends and neighbors who offered their prayers, comfort and support during our time of need. Thank you also to the staff of Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital Ozaukee Campus and Vitas Hospice Home Care for their thoughtful assistance. Memorials appreciated to the American Lung Association.

Charlotte Becker

Mrs. Charlotte J. Becker of Random Lake passed away in the evening hours of Tuesday August 5, 2003 surrounded by her family. Mrs. Becker was born October 7, 1930 in Milwaukee, daughter of the late Joseph and Edith Gerdmann Crema. On February 7, 1948 she married Kenneth Becker in Milwaukee. She was a very active member and volunteer at St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church in Port Washington since 1986. Her hobbies included porcelain doll making, numerous other crafts, cooking for her family, and spoiling her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Kenneth, children Dale (Pamela) Becker, Don (Judy) Becker, Jeffery (Debra) Becker and Kathryn Bartz. Further survived by 13 grandchildren; Erin (Eric) Veldboom, Kenny Becker, Matthew (Crystal) Becker, Jeremy Becker, Brian (Brooke) Becker, Chris Becker, Daniel (Stefanie) Bartz, Kimberly Bartz, Joshua Bartz, Amanda Bartz, Jason (Janene) Becker, Justin Becker and J.J. Becker, 5 great-grandchildren; Travis Veldboom, Tyler Veldboom, Cody Becker, Devyn Becker and Jaden Becker, 2 sisters Alma (Doug) Kinziger and Jeannette (Ray) Lilly, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. preceded in death by her brother Marvin Crema, an infant brother and her sister Bernadine Beversdorf. Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 9, 2003 11 AM at St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church 1525 N. Grant St. Port Washington with Rev. Martin Wildauer officiating. Burial will take place in Union cemetery in Port Washington. Friends may call at the CHURCH, Friday, August 8, 4-7 PM and again on Saturday 10 AM until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to ALS Association, SE WI Chapter, 2421 N. Mayfair Rd., Suite 212 Wauwatosa, WI 53226 or St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church Port Washington suggested.

MARGARET V. POULL

Mrs. Margaret Poull, age 87 years of 109 Rose Lane, Belgium died Sunday, August 3, 2003 at Columbia-St. Mary’s Hospital, Ozaukee Campus in Mequon. She was born September 30, 1915 in Milwaukee, daughter of the late John and Mary Farber Groff. On May 3, 1941 she married Peter L. Poull at St. Mary Catholic Church in Lake Church.. The couple farmed in the Town of Belgium and Mrs. Poull also worked at Lake Church Leather and Ozaukee Press. Mrs. Poull was a member of St. Mary Church in Lake Church, the Christian Women of St. Mary Parish and the Catholic Order of Foresters. She is survived by her husband, 4 sons John (Mary Lou), Thomas (Jo Ann), Allen (Pam) and Peter T. (Hedy) all of Port Washington, 1 daughter Janet (Gerry) Luebke of Mayville, 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 1 sister Donna (Harold) Thompson of Baldwin, CA. She was preceded in death by 1 brother Stanley. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday evening, August 6, 7 pm at St. Mary Catholic Church, Lake Church with Father Jim Vojtik officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the CHURCH Wednesday from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers memorials to St. Mary Parish, Lake Church appreciated. The Eernisse Funeral Home, Belgium is assisting the family with arrangements.
