Joseph P. Didier

Joe Didier age 25 years, of Port Washington, died suddenly Friday, February 13, 2004 in a snowmobile accident. Joe was born in Port Washington on December 11, 1978, son of Peter and Pat Howard Didier. After graduating from Port Washington High School in 1997, Joe went on to college, graduating from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee in 2002 with a Bachelor's Degree in History. Joe also attended the University of Ulster in County Derry in Ireland. Joe had just started a very promising career in real estate, working with his family as a real estate agent for RE/MAX United Realty in Port Washington. He was also a member of the Ozaukee County Realtors Association.
Joe loved football. He played not only at Port High, but also as a player and coach for the Marquette University Football Club. Joe also played rugby at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater. His other enjoyments in life besides football were running, basketball, lifting weights, and spending time with his many friends.
He is survived by his parents Peter and Pat of Port Washington, three brothers; Tom (Lora) and Mike (Alison) Didier, both of Port Washington, and Dave Didier of Milwaukee. He is further survived by his grandmother Betty Didier of Port Washington, nephews Owen and Luke Didier and niece Georgia Didier, uncles, aunts, cousins, other relatives and many, many friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday February 17, 2004 at 7:30 PM at St. Peter's Catholic Church 1800 N. Wisconsin St. Port Washington with Father Paul Lippert and Rev. Jeff Suddendorf officiating. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s cemetery in Port Washington. Visitation will be at the CHURCH Tuesday 3:00 PM until 7:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested to the Joe Didier Memorial Fund to benefit Port Washington High School football. Eernisse Funeral Home, Port Washington is assisting the family.

Alma T. Laessig

Mrs. Alma Laessig, currently of cedar Springs Health and Rehabilitation Center in Cedarburg, formerly of Port Washington and Mountain, WI, passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon, October 14, 2003. She was 94 years old. Alma was born in Port Washington, daughter of Frank and Mary Swatek Schmit. On October 25, 1927 she was united in marriage to John Laessig. He preceded her in death in 1974. Mrs. Laessig was a member of St. Peter’s of Alcantara Catholic Church. She enjoyed sewing and gardening. She is survived by 1 son, John (the late Jean) Laessig of Grafton, 2 daughters, Jeanette (Torris) Lambrecht of Milwaukee and Judy (Ross) Young of South Dakota. 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, special friends Marilyn Ehrens of Mequon and Gloria Bauerfiend of Surring, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, October 16, 2003 at 7PM at St. Peter’s of Alcantara Catholic Church, 1800 N. Wisconsin St., Port Washington. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in St. Mary of the Lake cemetery in Lakewood, WI. The family will receive visitors at the church Friday from 5-7PM.

Marilyn A. Johnson

Mrs. Marilyn Johnson, of the Maple Crest Apartments In Port Washington, passed away at her residence on Thursday evening, October 16, 2003. She was 72 years old. Marilyn was born on March 21, 1931, in Milwaukee, daughter of Edwin and Dorothy Kath Brueckner. On May 20, 1950, she was united in marriage to Douglas A. Johnson at St. Michael’s Church in Milwaukee. The couple lived in the Cedarburg area before moving to Memphis, TN. Douglas preceded her in death on June 20, 2002, and Marilyn moved back to the Port Washington area. She enjoyed knitting, baking, junkets to the casino and spending time with her family and grandchildren. She is survived by 2 daughters, Kathleen (Gerald) Bongard of Saukville and Christine (Larry) Oetzel of Shorewood, IL, 4 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 1 sister, Carol (David) Melbye of Reedsburg, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband and 1 daughter, Karen Johnson. Private services were held. Eernisse Funeral Home in Port Washington is assisting the family.

JUNE C. RATHKE

Mrs. June Rathke, of River Road in Waubeka, passed away during surgery at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee Thursday afternoon, October 16, 2003. She was 80 years old. June was born February 21, 1923, in Waubeka, daughter of Edward and Leota Retzer Parlow. On May 8, 1948 she was united in marriage with Waldemar Rathke at st. Paul’s Community United Church of Christ in Waubeka. He preceded her in death on November 28, 1967. Mrs. Rathke was a long time member of St. Paul’s Community UCC, served on the Election Committee for the Town of Fredonia and loved celebrating Flag Day. She enjoyed being outside, especially in the summer months, was well known for her love of decorating for the holidays and enjoyment of family get-togethers, liked to spend time and lavish attention on her cats, and enjoyed having fun playing the slots at area casinos. She is survived by her children, Sandy, Dennis and Perry (Carol) Rathke, all of Waubeka. She is further survived by her special friends Dorothy, Esther and Ruthie, other relatives and many friends. Funeral Services were held Sunday, October 19, 2003 at 7PM at St. Paul’s Community UCC in Waubeka. Pastor David Jerger officiated. She was laid to rest next to her husband in St. Paul cemetery. The family received visitors at the church Sunday from 4-7PM.

OLIVA L. ANSAY

Devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Oliva (Risch) Ansay, of 223 St. Rose Ave. in Fredonia died Saturday, October 18th, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Mequon. She was 87 years of age. Oliva was born in Lake Church on March 8th, 1916, the daughter of John and Katherine (Pohl) Risch.

On April 6th, 1940, she married Clarence Ansay at St. Mary’s Church, Lake Church. Mr. and Mrs. Ansay farmed on the edge of the village of Fredonia until January of 1980. Oliva was known for raising chickens and supplying eggs to friends and relatives. She and her husband were active in square dancing for many years. She also enjoyed playing cards, traveling, and cooking for her large family of children and grandchildren. An excellent seamstress, she taught all of her daughters how to sew. She was a green-thumb gardener and enjoyed working in her flower beds and gardened up to the time of her death.

Friends and family fondly remember Oliva as having a humble, giving nature, and a heart of gold. She lovingly cared for her wheelchair-bound husband, Clarence, after he had a second stroke in 1987 until his death in 1996. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and a grandson, Ricky Peterson.

Mrs. Ansay is survived by two sons: Lester (Lois) of Olathe, KS; Ronald (Christine) of Fredonia; and four daughters: Marie Peterson and Joanne Podjaski of Fredonia; Bernice (Dennis) Jungers of West Bend; and Rosanne Wittkop of Simi Valley, CA. She is also survived by seventeen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and a grandson, Ricky Peterson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday evening, October 23, 2003, leaving from the Eernisse Funeral Home, Port Washington, 1600 W. Grand Ave., going to Holy Rosary Parish, St. Rose Chapel in Fredonia for Mass at 7:30 PM. Father Dick Fleischmann and Father James Ernster will officiate. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in St. Rose cemetery the next day. The family will receive visitors at the Funeral Home Thursday from 3:30 -7PM.

EDWARD F. WILDE

Edward Wilde, age 83 years, of Hwy 33 in the Town of Port Washington, passed away at Cedar Lake Health Care Center in West Bend on Sunday afternoon, October 19, 2003. He was born December 2, 1919 in the Town of Grafton, son of Charles and Jennie Baumann Wilde. He entered the US Army and served his country during World War II. On September 6, 1956 he was united in marriage to Eleanore Witte at Friedens Evangelical Church in Port Washington. Mr. Wilde worked as a truck driver for Acme and A&P.; He was a member of Friedens Ev. Church, Teamsters Local 200 and the Rose Harms American Legion Post in Grafton. He enjoyed gardening, yard work, “puttering outside” and working on the farm with his daughter and son-in-law. Ed spent time working with wood and had built the house that he and Eleanore lived in. He also enjoyed watching the Packers and the Brewers on TV. He is survived by his wife, Eleanore, of the Town of Port Washington, 2 daughters, Jean Augustin of Merril and Jane (James) Kultgen of Port Washington, 2 sons Dennis (Marcella) of Saukville and Gary (Jackie) of West Bend. He is further survived by 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Leona (Albert) Remitz of Saukville, Audrey (Edward) Feider of Sheboygan, 1 brother, Lawrence (Lorretta) Wilde of Port Washington, sisters-in-law Betty Wilde of Saukville and Caroline Wilde of Port Washington, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by 1 sister, Eleanor Grupe, and 5 brothers: Carl, Raymond, George, Elmer “Cotton” and Walter. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 22, 2003 7PM at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave. Port Washington (Hwy LL & 33). Rev. Mark Voll will officiate. Interment will take place in Union cemetery, Port Washington. The family will receive visitors at the Funeral Home Wednesday from 4-7 PM. The Rose Harms American Legion Post will hold a brief service at 6:30 PM. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Assoc. or the National Diabetes Foundation.

ERWIN “Powerhouse” ARNDT

Erwin “Powerhouse” Arndt, age 84 years of Random Lake died Saturday morning, November 1, 2003 at his residence. He was born July 25, 1919 in Random Lake, son of Frederick and Mary Braun Arndt. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II and married Ilma Wilke on October 23, 1943 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Waubeka. Mr. Arndt worked for the Village of Random Lake water department and also served as Village Constable. He later worked for Bolens Corp. in Port Washington for 25 years, retiring in 1981. In the mid 1950’s he started Fire Safety Equipment in Random Lake .Mr. Arndt was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Random Lake and was currently a member of the Random Lake Fire Department. He served as chief engineer and later as fire chief from 1955 -1980 serving his community for over 64 years. He was a life member of Wisconsin State Fire Chiefs Association, past president of Badger Firemen’s Association, a former member of Hamm-Miller Post 145 American Legion, and a member of Eastern Wisconsin Firemen’s Association and the International Association of Machinists. Survivors include his wife Ilma, 2 children Robert (Shari) Arndt of Random Lake and Barbara (Edward) Slankard of Kansas City, KS, 6 grandchildren Jeff Arndt, Rhonda Bahr, Cortni Arndt, Chad Arndt, Jeffrey Oertle, Tanya Snyder and the late Nikole Arndt, 9 great grandchildren, 2 brothers Everett (Irmgard) Arndt of Plymouth and Vernon (Marcie) Arndt of Random Lake, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by 1 brother Melvin and 1 granddaughter Nikole. Funeral services will be held on Monday evening, November 3, 7 PM at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 98 Random Lake Road, Random Lake. Burial will be in Union cemetery, Random Lake. Visitation at the CHURCH Monday from 2:30 – 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Random Lake Fire Department or St. John’s United Church of Christ appreciated. The Eernisse Funeral Home, Port Washington is assisting the family with services.

LUCY A. SEBENY

Mrs. Lucy Sebeny, of Stoney Ridge Way in Saukville, passed away unexpectedly early Sunday morning, December 26, 2004. She was 42 years old. Lucy was born in New Berlin on April 8, 1962, daughter of Jerome and Marie Zunker Haessly. She graduated from Cedar Grove High School in 1980, and on June 3, 1992 was united in marriage with Jeffrey Sebeny in Port Washington. Lucy enjoyed camping and dancing. She was a very social person. She liked spending time with her family and really enjoyed being a mom. She is survived by her husband, Jeff and their two children Abby and Benjamin, all of Saukville. She is further survived by 1 step-son, Joseph (Stacy) Sebeny of West Bend, parents-in-law John & Kathy Sebeny of Adams, 3 sisters: Barbara (the late Michael) Schreiner of Beaver Dam, Elaine (David) Banta of Omro and Patricia (Hector) Morales of Cascade, 2 brothers: Richard (Tammy) Haessly of Ferris, TX and Nathan (Karen) Haessly of Grafton, special friends Carol Kuester, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She is preceded in death by her parents. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, Dec. 30th, 7PM at the Eernisse Funeral Home in Port Washington. Interment will take place in Union cemetery, Port Washington. The family will receive visitors at the Funeral Home Thursday from 4-7PM.

Agnes M. Herrold

Mrs. Agnes Herrold, of Harbor Club in Port Washington, passed away Sunday morning, December 26, 2004. She was 95 years old. Agnes was born September 28, 1909 in Chicago, daughter of John and Clara Knaff Lorge. On May 17, 1958 she was united in marriage with Dr. Russell Herrold in Chicago. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Herrold worked as a medical secretary in a clinic in the Chicago area. During her childhood and also in later years, Agnes enjoyed spending time with the family in the Cedar Beach area. She is survived by three nieces: Dee Croke of Belgium, Joan Lundstrom of Two Rivers and Clare Locascio of Palatine, IL. She is further survived by one nephew, Fred Booth of Colbert, OK, other relatives and friends. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11AM on Saturday, January 8th, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Lake Church. Father Jim Vojtik will officiate. Inurnment will take place in St. Joseph cemetery, River Grove, IL. A gathering of family and friends will take place at the church Saturday from 10AM until the time of Mass at 11 AM.

RUTH I. WASSINK

Mrs. Ruth Wassink, of Osius Street in Adell, passed away at Rocky Knoll Heath Care Center early Thursday morning, December 23, 2004. She was 77 years old. Ruth was born on August 15, 1927 in Newport, Oregon, daughter of William and Bertha Crommiller Penn. On December 25, 1946 she was united in marriage with John Wassink in Gibbsville. He preceded her in death on September 26, 2002. Ruth ran Poppa’s Grocery Store in Washington Co. for many years, retiring in 1978. Ruth was a member of the Hingham Reformed Church and had participated in the Ladies Mission Society there. She was a 4-H Leader for many years, teaching many kids to bake and sew. In her later years, she was a member of the Adell Senior Center. Ruth is survived by her 4 daughters: Linda (special friend Michael Scholler) Orth of Adell, Jean (Dennis) Klein of Belgium, Carol (Joseph) Takacs of West Bend and Patricia Faber of West Bend. She is further survived by 6 grandchildren: Anjanette, David, Michelle, Jason, Megan and Alesia, 4 great-grandchildren: Brianna, John, Samuel and Evan, 1 brother, William Penn of California, 2 sisters: Lois (The late Jim) McCulley of Beaverton, OR and Eleanor (Morrie) Barstad of Vernonia, OR, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, December 28th, 1:30 PM at Hingham Reformed Church, W4390 Church Road, Hingham. Pastor Steve Bakker will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hingham cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the church Tuesday from 11AM until the time of services at 1:30 PM. Memorials are suggested to the MS Society or the Hingham Reformed Church. The family wishes to extend a warm thank you to the staff at Rocky Knoll Care Center and a special thank you to June, Connie and Elaine for the wonderful care given to their mother.

Robert N. Lanser

Mr. Robert Lanser, age 73 years of Tampa, Florida, formerly of Port Washington, passed away on December 22, 2004 at his residence. He was born on January 9, 1931 in Port Washington, son of the late Nicholas and Frances Jungers Lanser. Mr. Lanser was in the OFM for over 20 years. Currently, Robert had his own business as a retailer at flea markets in Florida. He enjoyed playing cards, visiting with friends and going frequently to Busch Gardens to see the animals. He is survived by his sister Ruth Gasper of Port Washington, and 2 brothers John (Mildred) Lanser of Bakersfield, CA and Father Wilbert Lanser OFM, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by 1 sister, Dorothy Fink and 2 brothers-in-law: Kenneth Gasper and Elmer Fink. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 1 PM at St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church, 1800 N. Wisconsin St. Port Washington, with Father David Meinholz officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s cemetery Port Washington. Visitation will be at the CHURCH Wednesday from 11-1PM. Memorials suggested to the American Diabetes Association.

WILFRED M. MAECHTLE

Mr. Wilfred Maechtle, of Holden Street in Port Washington, passed away at his home early Monday morning, December 20, 2004. He was 84 years old. Wilfred was born in the Town of Port Washington on January 8, 1920, the son of Elmer and Rena Haberman Maechtle. He graduated from Whitefish Bay High School in 1937. He entered the US Army and served overseas in North Africa, Italy and Germany with the 183rd Signal Repair Co. On January 10, 1945 he was united in marriage with Alma Harrer at the Grand Ave. United Methodist Church. The couple built their home on Holden Street and Wilfred worked as a Telephone Repair Technician for Western Electric in Milwaukee. He repaired switchboards and worked on some of the first wireless phone systems for cars. Wilfred was a longtime member of Grand Ave. United Methodist Church in Port Washington, where he was a trustee and usher for many years. He had also participated in the Adult Fellowship and Keenagers programs. He enjoyed going to reunions for the 183rd Signal Repair Co., tinkering with electronics and radio equipment, repairing and inventing things. He liked bicycling and had built a few bikes from scrap parts, walking the beach here in Port, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Wilfred was an avid newspaper reader and an archeology buff as well. He is survived by his wife Alma, of Port Washington, 1 daughter Susan (Dennis) Merrill of Port Washington, 2 grandsons: Dennis II (Amy) Merrill of New Glarus and Peter Merrill of Waukesha and 1 great-grandson Tyler Merrill of New Glarus. He is further survived by 1 sister Marlene Berke of Sheboygan Falls, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers: Kenneth and Gerald Maechtle. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, December 30, 2004 at 6:30 PM at the Grand Ave. United Methodist Church, 505 W. Grand Ave., in Port Washington. Rev. David Guse will officiate. Inurnment will take place the next day at Union cemetery. The family will receive visitors Thursday at the church from 5:30-6:30 PM. Memorials in Wilfred’s name are suggested to the Grand Ave. United Methodist Church.

Jerry L. Keller

Mrs. Jerry Keller, of Spring St. in Port Washington, passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2004 at Columbia-St. Mary's Hospital in Mequon. She was 65 years old. Jerry was born in Milwaukee on June 16, 1939, the daughter of George and Flavel Hanaway Kelly. On August 13, 1954 she was united in marriage with John M. Keller. Jerry had spent time working as a nurse's aid at St. Alphonsus Hospital, but most recently had worked as a Department Manager at Kohl's Department Store. She is survived by her husband John of Port Washington, a daughter Kathy (David) Dockery, also of Port Washington, and 3 sons: John (Annette)of Cedar Grove, Michael (Lize) and Matthew (Marzena Kryger) Keller, both of Port Washington. She is further survived by 6 grandchildren: Rebekka, Emily, Jacob, Joshua, Kelly and Sarah, 2 sisters: Sandy (Ron) Lippitt of Boscobel and Karen (Jeff) Mueller of Bullhead City, AZ, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by 1 infant son John Michael and 2 sisters: Lyla Stoller and Patricia Kelly. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, January 2, 2005 at the Eernisse Funeral Home in Port Washington. Father Dave Meinholz will officiate. The family will recieve visitors at the Funeral Home Sunday from 3-5PM.

Barbara Decker

A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 20, 2004 for Barbara A. Decker (nee Gilman), a longtime resident of Saukville, WI. Barbara passed away on Wednesday December 15, 2004 at Columbia St. Mary’s Hospice in Milwaukee.
Barbara was born on April 2, 1920 in Linden, WI. Barbara graduated from Grafton High School in 1937, and then attended the Wisconsin Commercial Academy. On September 22, 1944 she married Nicholas Decker at Chico Air Force Base in Chico, CA. Barbara worked as a secretary in the library and guidance departments at Port Washington High School for 18 years. She was also a former member of the Port Washington Senior Center. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, word games, gardening, flowers, playing cards with her friends, and keeping a clean house. Mrs. Decker is survived by her Husband Nicholas of Saukville, 1 son Steve of Saukville, 1 daughter Lois Decker of Grafton, her granddaughter Stephanie (Wade) Riesterer, and 1 sister Dorothy (Paul) Davies of Peach Tree City, GA. She is further survived by her brother-in-law George Decker of Port Washington 2 sisters-in-law Hilda Barwick of Port Washington and Esther Hubing of Tucson, AZ, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Monday December 20, 2004 2 PM at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave. Port Washington, with Father Karl Acker officiating. Entombment will be in St. Mary’s Mausoleum in Port Washington. Visitation at the Funeral Home Manday from 12-2 PM. Eernisse Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Mrs. Elizabeth A. Eternick “Betty”

Mrs. Betty Eternick, of Walters Street in Port Washington passed away peacefully at Heritage Nursing Home in Port Washington on Monday evening, December 13, 2004. She was 83 years old. Betty was born in Ashland, Wisconsin on August 13, 1921, daughter of William Lodle and Mary Riederer Lodle. She was united in marriage with Percy Eternick on May 28, 1946 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Port Washington. Betty worked as a nurse’s aid at the St. Alphonsus Hospital for many years. She is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Port Washington, the Christian Women, Catholic Order of Foresters, and the Port Washington Senior Center. She enjoyed creating ceramic pieces, participated in writing classes and book clubs and was known for knitting double- layered socks and mittens that really kept the cold out. Betty is survived by her husband Percy of Port Washington, 3 sisters: Leone Furyk of Hurley, Helen (John) Hansen of Port Washington and Mary Jane Murphy of Belgium. She is further survived by brothers- and sisters-in-law: Laverne Mayer, Gerald (Betty) Eternick and Roger (Marcy) Eternick, all of Milwaukee, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Marilyn, and 1 sister, Charlotte Valle. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, December 16, 2004 from the Eernisse Funeral Home (1600 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington) at 7PM going to St. Mary’s Catholic Church for Mass of Christian Burial at 7:30PM. Father Allan Sommer will officiate. Burial will take place the next day in the parish cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the Funeral Home Thursday from 5-7PM. The family suggests memorials be given to the charity of your choice in Betty’s name.
