DOROTHY D. MESSICK
FORT ASHBY, W.Va. -‹ Dorothy Dallas Messick, 90, of Fort Ashby, died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at Dawnview Manor Nursing Home.

Born Sept. 8, 1908, in Davis, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Edna Virginia (Cutlett) Cosner.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Turley Messick, in 1979; three brothers, Harl Cosner, Emwood Cosner and Stanley Cosner.

Mrs. Messick was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Forest Glen, and the Farm Womenıs Club, Springfield.

Survivors include one son, Dailey "Kicky" Messick, Green Spring; two daughters, Phyllis Shanholtz, Short Gap, and Peggy Burns, Keyser; one brother, French Cosner, Springfield; four sisters, Gladys Cheshire, Romney, Juanita Pledger, Tennessee, Martha Mulledy and Audrey Saville, both of Levels; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Deborah Shreve officiating.

Interment will be in Forest Glen cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be John Burns, Randy Messick, P.J. Shanholtz, Roger Shanholtz, Mark Shanholtz, Troy Shanholtz and Joe Burns.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church in Forest Glen.

ALFRED D. O'BAKER
RIDGELEY, W.Va. - Alfred David O'Baker, 63, passed away to be with his Lord and Saviour on Sunday, February 28, 1999.

Born August 14, 1935, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Alfred Charles and Dorothy M. (Dunn) O'Baker.

He also was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Donald O'Baker; and three sisters, Mary Margaret O'Baker, Mary Elizabeth O'Baker and Rosemary O'Baker.

At age 19, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was accepted into the Submarine Service, where he served for 12 years. While in the military, Mr. O'Baker served at the Bay of Pigs Invasion in 1963 and in the Vietnam War. In 1967, he was honorably discharged from the Navy due to medical disabilities.

After the service, Mr. O'Baker worked construction. In 1981, he was made Chief of Maintenance at the Western Maryland Hospital, Hagerstown. He retired in 1992.

Mr. O'Baker was an excellent hunter and fisherman. He was also a member of the U.S. Submarine Service Retirees.

He was Catholic by faith.

Survivors include his wife, Helen "Nan" L. O'Baker; three sons, Marcus H. O'Baker, Cumberland, W. Scott O'Baker, Overland Park, Kan., and David W. O'Baker, Cumberland; two daughters, Tracy Noel, Olathe, Kan., and Rachael George and husband Darin, Cumberland; six brothers, John O'Baker, Hagerstown, Russell C. O'Baker, George "Tim" O'Baker and Francis S. O'Baker, all of Cumberland, A. Dale O'Baker, Orlando, Fla., and William L. O'Baker, Erie, Pa.; and four sisters, Phoebe W. Nicholson, Cumberland, Dorothy M. Heather, Florida, Sharon Musselwhite and Florence Ann Irons, both of Cumberland. Mr. O'Baker deeply loved his five grandchildren, Autumn George, Austin George, Alyson George, Susan Noel and Chelsea O'Baker. He also will be missed by his niece and nephew, Susan and Bobby Clark, along with best friend, Sister Margaret Wolf.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, March 4, 1999, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Alfred E. Cutajar, S.J., officiating.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, where military honors will be accorded by the local Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

Serving as pallbearers will be Russell O'Baker Sr., Russell O'Baker Jr., Troy O'Baker, David O'Baker, Scott O'Baker, George T. O'Baker, Roy Musselwhite Jr. and Josh Musselwhite.

Honorary pallbearers will be William O'Baker, John O'Baker and Dale O'Baker.

Memorial contributions may be made to either the St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Christian Children's Fund, or to the Cumberland Food Bank.

BARBARA JOAN "BOBBI" METHENY
TERRA ALTA, W.Va. - Barbara Joan "Bobbi" Metheny, 61, of Terra Alta, died Thursday, July 22, 1999, at Garrett Memorial Hospital, Oakland, Md.

She was born Nov. 26, 1937, in Terra Alta, a daughter of the late Frank Goss and Virginia Blanche Kisner Wilhelm.

She was Baptist by faith. She retired after 21 years from Bausch & Lomb, then provided in-home care for a local physician's children and numerous elderly individuals in the community.

She is survived by two brothers, Frank F. Wilhelm, Pittsburgh, Pa., Dennis B. Wilhelm, Terra Alta; two sisters, Patricia A. Bailey, Morgantown, Shirley P. Roy, Oakland; 23 nieces and nephews; and 35 grand-nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers and six sisters.

Friends may call at Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home, Terra Alta, Friday, July 23, 1999, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and from 11 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 1999, until 2 p.m., the service time, with the Rev. Harry Hebenthal officiating.

Interment will follow at the Terra Alta cemetery, Terra Alta.

EDNA M. METTY
SHORT GAP, W.Va. - Edna M. Metty, 88, of Scenic Lane, Short Gap, passed away Sunday, March 7, 1999, at Memorial Hospital. She has gone to be with her late husband, Earl Metty, who passed away in April 1986. Together, they will walk hand-in-hand forever.

Born Nov. 8, 1910, in Frostburg, Md., she was the daughter of the late George Frederick and Rebecca Priscilla (Athey) Sagle.

Mrs. Metty was a former employee of the Celanese Corp., Cumberland, and Kelly-Springfield Tire Co., Cumberland. She was a member of First Christian Church, Bedford Street, Cumberland, and the Cumberland Moose Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are two daughters, Priscilla Metty, Scenic Lane, and Linda Oakman and husband Dale, Paulsboro, N.J.; two sons, James A. Metty and wife Betty, Short Gap, and Earl M. Metty, Scenic Lane; one sister, Hilda Fields, Glen Burnie, Md.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

At Mrs. Metty's request, her body was donated to medical science.

A memorial service will be conducted at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Saturday at 11 a.m. with Pastor David R. Price officiating.

GEORGE E. NOLL
ROMNEY, W.Va. - George Everett Noll, 90, of Romney, died April 19, 1999, in Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

He was born May 9, 1908, in Waynesboro, Pa., a son of the late George W. and Minnie Mae (Wolfkill) Noll. He was also preceded in death by an infant brother; and four sisters.

He was retired as District Manager for the Potomac Edison Power Company.

He was an active member of the Romney First United Methodist Church for almost 60 years. He served on the Board of Trustees and was chairman of that board. He was also the chairman of the Official Board and later was made an honorary member. He served as chairman for the building committee and additions and renovations. Mr. Noll was a 50-year member and Past Master of Clinton Lodge #86 A.F. & A.M. Mr. Noll was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Romney #84, and served as Worthy Patron for several terms. He was also a 50-year member and past president of the Romney Lions Club and was recently given the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award for his contributions to Lionism.

Survivors include his wife, LaRue Reynolds Noll, Romney; one son, Jack R. Noll, Osteen, Fla.; two granddaughters, Jane Noll Cooper, Sanford, Fla., Jeanne Noll Pittenger, Romney; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Friends will be received Wednesday, April 21, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney.

Services will be conducted on Thursday, April 22, at 11 a.m. at the Romney First United Methodist Church, Romney. Mr. Noll's body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. to lie in state for one hour before the service. Officiating will be the Rev. Calvin McCutcheon.

Interment will be in the Green Hill cemetery, Waynesboro, Pa.
