JACK F. STEIN
WEST SENECA, NY - Jack F. Stein, 65, of West Seneca, formerly of Ridgeley, W.Va., died Oct. 10, 1999.
Mr. Stein was a member of the class of 1951, Ridgeley High School, and a veteran of the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, Loretta; daughter, Jaquie, of West Seneca; and a brother, Ed Stein, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.
Mr. Steins cremains will be interred at a later date, at Mt. Olivet cemetery, Manns Choice, Pa.
ANNIS ROSS SCHROEDER
BUCKHANNON, W.Va. - Annis Ross Schroeder, age 93, of 132 W. Belcrest Road, Bel Air, Md., formerly of Buckhannon, died Saturday, May 1, 1999, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
She was born May 10, 1905, in Selbyville, W.Va., a daughter of the late Samuel Ross and Lila Crites Ross. She was also preceded in death by six brothers, Samuel Ross, Estel Ross, Cecil Ross, Kelcel Ross, Guy Ross, and Perce Ross; and two sisters, Pearl Ross and Sylvia Kraus.
Mrs. Schroeder was a member of Bel Air United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Maryland Golf & Country Club and the Sisterhood of P.E.O. Mrs. Schroeder graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College, Buckhannon. She taught high school English and French.
After traveling with her husband in the military during World War II and teaching in many places, they returned to Buckhannon. Frank Schroeder was director of the band at Buckhannon-Upshur High School where Annis taught English for many years before moving to Bel Air. She continued to teach there for many years before retirement. Annis pursued her life long hobby of playing golf. She was an excellent golfer and won many club championships. She thoroughly enjoyed people, primarily her family.
Mrs. Schroeder is survived by two sons, Dr. Philip J. Schroeder, Cumberland, and Dr. Frederick J. Schroeder, Winter Park, Fla.; five grandsons, Christopher Schroeder, Winter Park, Michael Schroeder, Patrick Schroeder, John Schroeder, all of Cumberland, and Benjamin Schroeder, Winter Park; and two granddaughters, Julianna Schroeder, Winter Park, and Christine Schroeder, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home, 95 S. Kanawha St., Buckhannon, on Tuesday, May 4, from 6 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 5, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Roy Knight officiating.

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. - Annis Ross Schroeder of 132 W. Belcrest Road, Bel Air, Md., went to be with the Lord on May 1, 1999, in Cumberland, Md. She was born in Selbyville. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Samuel, Estel, Cecil, Kelcel, Guy, and Perce and two sisters, Pearl and Sylvia. She was the last surviving child of Samuel Ross and Lillie Crites Ross.
Surviving is her husband, Frank J. Schroeder, Bel Air, Md., and two sons, Dr. Philip J. Schroeder and wife, Rosemary, Cumberland, Md.; and Dr. Frederick J. Schroeder and wife, Susan, Winter Park, Fla.; five beloved grandsons, Christopher, Michael, Patrick, John and Benjamin and two beloved granddaughters, Julianna and Christine.
The family will receive friends at Poling-St. Claire Funeral Home, Buckhannon, on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Heavner cemetery.
A memorial service will be held at Bel Air United Methodist Church on Friday, May 7, at 2 p.m.

ELK GARDEN, W.Va. - Pearl Ida Secrist, 80, of Elk Garden passed away , Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999 in the Grant County Hospital.
Born Feb. 1, 1919, in Gorman, Md., she was a daughter of the late Harry A. and Lilly (Cosner) Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil A. Secrist.
She is survived by her step-mother, Ida Brown of Leadmine; five sons, William Secrist, Fort Ashby, Andrew Secrist, Westernport, Md., Roger Secrist, Petersburg, Melvin Secrist, Kitzmiller, Md., and Kenny Secrist, Meyersdale, Pa.; eight daughters, Wanda Coleman, Silver Spring, Md., Martha Beavers, Westernport, Md., Betty Kidwell, Laurel, Md., Wilma Howdyshell, Kitzmiller, Md., Lilly Moats, Crellin, Md., Mary Harvey, Elk Garden, and Linda Moats, Horseshoe Run; four cousins, Harry Brown, Keyser, Dan Brown, Buffalo, NY, George Brown, Buffalo, NY, and Shine Brown, Buffalo, NY; three half-sisters, Patty, Jackie, and Ida; 46 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren and; one great-great-granddaughter.
The body is at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller, Md., where friends will be received Sunday from 3:30 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Tom Brackett officiating.
VICKIE J. SHAFFNER
EARLYSVILLE, Va. - Vickie June Shaffner, 44, of Earlysville, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Born April 24, 1955, in Berkeley Spring, W.Va., she was the daughter of Russell G. Kerns and Mary K. Unger, Cumberland, Md.
Surviving are her husband, James E. Shaffner, Earlysville; two sons, Justin R. Shaffner and Jonas U. Shaffner, Earlysville; two sisters, Joann E. Compton, Berkeley Springs, and Karen L. Evans, Cumberland; one brother, Dwight R. Kerns, Troy, Va.; two half-sisters, Teresa Spicer and Michelle Moyer; and one half-brother, Russell Kerns Jr.
Vickie was employed for 26 years at G.E. Fanuc. She was a devoted wife and mother, and was a member of the non-Denominational Christian Church.
Friends will be received at the Ryan Funeral Home, Quinque, on Thursday, Nov. 11 from 7 to 8 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Ryan Funeral Chapel, Quinque, Friday at 1 p.m. with Steve Marshall and Franklin Zimmerman officiating.

JAMES S. SHANHOLTZ
KEYSER, W.Va. - James Sewell Shanholtz, 74, formally of Flintstone, Md., residing in Keyser, W.Va., died Sunday, May 16, 1999, at Newton Baker VA Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born January 4, 1925, in Amaranth, Pa., he was the son of the late Kelly Frank Shanholtz and the late Elizabeth Louise (Klavuhn) Shanholtz. He also was preceded by two sons, Stevie Shanholtz, in 1960, and Lou Edward Shanholtz, in 1974; five brothers, Lawrence, Frank, Harrison, Leonard and Robert Shanholtz; and a sister, Lena Sullivan.
Mr. Shanholtz was a retired employee of the Celanese Corporation of America as a machinist. He was a member of Glendale Church of the Brethren in Flintstone, Md., VFW in Oldtown, Md., Keyser Moose, and was a lifetime member of the Flintstone Volunteer Fireman. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
Surviving are a wife, Cora (Morris) Shanholtz, Keyser, W.Va.; a daughter, Diane Riggins and husband John Jr., Keyser, W.Va.; three sons, Paul Shanholtz and wife Judy, Keymar, Md., Dennis Shanholtz and wife Vickie, Ridgeley, W.Va., and David Shanholtz and wife Vanessa, Keyser, W.Va.; ten grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and two brothers, Lee Shanholtz, Keymar, Md., and Julian Shanholtz, Buck Valley, Pa.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., with the Rev. Milton Morris and the Rev. Richard Ketterman officiating.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Shanholtz, Ramon Shanholtz, Brian Shanholtz, Mark Shanholtz, Chad Corbin and Jr. Self. Honorary pallbearers will be Leland Shanholtz and Fran Footen.
Military honors will be accorded at graveside by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
WILLIAM LESTER "SHOBIE" SHOBE
PETERSBURG, W.Va. - William Lester "Shobie" Shobe, 76, of 105 Pine St., Petersburg, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
He was born June 17, 1922, a son of the late William Jennings Bryan Shobe and Ella (Kimble) Shobe.
Mr. Shobe was retired as a driver for the Petersburg Oil Company on Jan. 1, 1984, after 42 years' service. He was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church and Big Mountain 5-20 Club.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Riggleman Shobe, whom he married
on July 9, 1964, in Moorefield. Also surviving are his daughter, Sandra Minnich Barr, Petersburg; a brother, James S. Shobe, Petersburg; two grandchildren, James E. Minnich II, Providence, R.I., and Gary Lee Minnich and wife, Vera, serving with the U.S. Army at Fort Irwin, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Basagic Funeral Home, Petersburg, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Main Street United Methodist Church on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. John Wildman officiating.
